Darren John - I spent weeks messing up poached eggs until the point that I gave up. Then i saw your video ! You saved me from the other side of the pond. Thanks. I’m now a hero again in my wife’s eyes ( she was ready to leave me over my wimpy poached eggs ).
Yep, I can vouch for this👍 Coffee mug, pinch of salt and pepper, coupla drops vinegar, 3/4 fill with boiling water, crack in egg, 60 secs in 800w microdiddle....perfect poached eggs with runny yolks...guaranteed! 90 seconds for two mugs/two eggs.
Love these nifty and healthy tips. Especially when poached eggs happen to be one of my favourite things either for brekkie or lunch, or to top and drizzle through a crisp and fresh green leafy bacon lardon salad! SO simple, but Oh My! Thank you :)
small to medium coffee cup will do! Room temp water at 50-75% fill, ....put in the egg. Microwave on 40-50 seconds. Wallah!!! Perfect poached egg. Put on toast, over rice, eggs Benedict, on a stew, meat, hamburger, etc. Perfection. Thank you so much!
My microwave only takes 25-30 seconds but I don't get the whites completely cooked. Any more time and I get hard yolks. So, I first boil the water, then drop in the egg and nuke for 25 seconds and I get the runny yolk and whites that are completely cooked. I use a 1 cup glass measuring cup filled half full.
Brilliant, so quick and no mess. I remember asking my son to boil me 2 eggs a couple of years ago as I needed protein. I told him what to do but when he brought them to me they were just slush. He’d boiled a kettle and poured it into the saucepan where the eggs were and after 4 minutes or so he assumed that was it. That was his first attempt at cooking, thankfully he’s got so much better although he really doesn’t enjoy it. He gave me a good laugh though
In 1982 my mum died unexpectably. My two brothers lived abroad and my sister had two young kids. I came up to dad's house from university with little cooking skills. Went to the deep freeze, found a bag of something. Turned out it was brains. I grilled the F out of them for myself and dad. On eating them I had the presence of mind to comment, "well that's the second thing we've burned today.''😳
Between the air fryer method which involves oil, water, 8 or 9 minutes cooking time,scrubbing the baked on oil after you have eaten your poached egg!!! The microwave method is the way to go, been doing this for years, thumbs up Darren👍
been doing this since 1983 - also plop a little butter in the water to give the egg that rich taste that can be achieved using poaching cups. How many years were you in the food business? I'm pulling your chain a bit but didn't you ever learn how to use a knife 😀! Pulling at your toast that way. I also leave the egg to stand for 10 secs before opening the microwave. 👍good to find your channel
This morning, I tried two eggs in my microwave. Specs: 2 one-cup, glass measuring cups 1 tsp white vinegar each cup 1/2 cup each of very hot water Crack 1 egg into each cup I microwaved both eggs on high for 90 seconds. The yolks were semi-hard so next time I'll try 70-75 seconds for two runny-yolk eggs. I used a slotted spoon to drain off water. Clean-up was very easy. This is now my official, go-to method for poached eggs. Super easy, much less fuss, no mess... Thank you!
I've been poaching eggs in tea mugs for years. You just rub a bit of olive oil on the inside to avoid any sticking. Usually put it on a lower setting for around 20 seconds. If you go full power you will end up with a hard yolk in a few seconds.
Even better, use the exact method you have just described but close the cling film into a little wrapper and drop it into a small pan of Boiling Water. Two mins later, lift out, cut the top off the cling film and pour your egg onto your Toast. Perfect every time. You can even do them in advance and reheat them in a cup of Hot Water 👍👍
That’ll do for me, a perfectly done poached egg. My attempts over the years have been disastrous- so I gave up trying and eating them poached. Thank you for the tip 👌
I do my poached eggs in my omelette maker so I can do 2 together. So easy, a bit of water in each compartment drop the eggs in, close the lid and 2 to 3 minutes later I get the best poached eggs and so easy to clean after. I have tried the microwave method and mostly its been great but ive had 2 explosions and if that happens it a mighty clean up of all the splattered egg. Great video though, thanks
Nice one Darren. Ironically enough I saw someone else on UA-cam do this today but he boiled the water first. So I'll definitely give it a try to see how it works out. Great video. Take care and all the best. 👍.
Feck me it works!👍 A word of caution to others, results will vary depending on micro wattage and egg size one minute is your starter mark. If it’s underdone, like my first attempt, just give it 5-10 second blasts til you get there. Mine are perfect at 1:12 but my brother tried it in his and he said the yolk fell out of the white and rolled off the plate🤣

I do scrambled eggs in the microwave. Just put the eggs in a cup, whisk them up, 30 seconds take out give it another whisk and put in for another 10 seconds or so (depending on your microwave) 🥚🥚🥚👍
I do them in a Pyrex jug in the microwave. Because they keep cooking you have to do 4D Chess or at least think ahead! I end up blasting the egg for 5 seconds (1 egg) or 10 seconds (2+ eggs) and whip them up with a fork for at least 20 seconds out of the microwave completely to check on how much more they are going to cook... and they do. I've taken a jug of sloppy eggs out and had it turn to fully cooked out of the microwave (where 5 seconds more _in the microwave_ would ruin them) on countless occasions. The worst thing is overdone scrambled eggs. They are meant to be quite sloppy. You know they are meant to be quite sloppy from how hot they are and how much they steam when they are not all that solid. I mean they are safe to eat (very hot) slightly before they turn to a solid egg that (as a scrambled egg) is overdone. Scrambled eggs are such a timing act from the microwave it's 100% wizardry. Really what's needed is a microwave that's 25% as powerful! Instead of a 1000W microwave we need 250W or instead of a 800W we need a 200W then we could make scrambled eggs a lot easier. It's arguably the most difficult thing to get right. I'd even argue impossible with a 1000W microwave. I am talking 3 seconds making a difference.
I've been poaching eggs this way for a while but mine have been kind of hit or miss, you kinda have a formula of 1\2 cup water, 1-minute perfect egg. It really depends on the power of your microwave. 60 seconds in some microwaves,more in less wattage microwaves. To be honest,time you boil a kettle..Use a cup then put in microwave..May as well do it in a small saucepan
How many watts is your microwave? Does it matter? Mine is 800 watts and just wondering do I still cook for 60 seconds? Or is it a case of playing around till I get the perfect eggs? I hope this “game changer” works as I love poached eggs on toast but I don’t always have success at making them.
Looked great MC wave, shalaton. Just watched another blogger do English breakfast at the Wolsely next to the Ritz, wondered how the poached eggs could be so round no other bits. That's what you get for extra step of service. Looked how they do it not tried yet great vid.
Evening Darren, used vereation on a theme 😊over the years. For my taste, yours needed another 30sec. The white was a little snotty & not quite set.But always open to new ideas ❤😊Cheers A Allan&Family
Quick question Darren but what is the wattage of your microwave ? I'll gauge how long to cook my poached egg effort by comparing the wattage of my microwave to yours.
I have tried every method I have ever heard of so I’ll have to try this one ! so I’m going to have to get a cup ! also, does the timing change if I use two or more cups/eggs ? I think we should be told ! I don’t have a toaster, which is why I have a cooker with an eye level grill ! (no it isn’t I hate toasters) PS does it make a difference if your cups are stonewear ?
Dj I was sceptical..and I think I was right in being so.. That’s not a proper poach.. Better than the device I used to use and leave them like frisbees lol All the best dj..

It really depends on the power of your microwave. 60 seconds in some microwaves,more in less wattage microwaves. To be honest,time you boil a kettle..Use a cup then put in microwave..May as well do it in a small saucepan
Great tip that Darren I'll have to try that. I could of done that when we were in Tenerife Instead of the pan.
🙏🏼👍🏼🙂
How many watts is your microwave? Does it matter? Mine is 800 watts and just wondering do I still cook for 60 seconds? Or is it a case of playing around till I get the perfect eggs? I hope this “game changer” works as I love poached eggs on toast but I don’t always have success at making them.
Trial and error - anywhere between 50 - 65 seconds
Looked great MC wave, shalaton. Just watched another blogger do English breakfast at the Wolsely next to the Ritz, wondered how the poached eggs could be so round no other bits. That's what you get for extra step of service. Looked how they do it not tried yet great vid.
👍🏼🙏🏼
I will be trying this out tonight when home from work 🙂
Hope you enjoy
Great idea going to try it this morning. Brilliant.
Hope you enjoy
@DarrenJohn oh yes I did worked perfect
Thank you Darren!
Yep. I agree. No butter toast. lightly poached egg and black coffee. Love it ! 😊. And low calorie, what’s not to like ?
You was bang on with your Tenerife shandy so I'm gonna try your poached egg way lol👍
Good man
Some people shove the egg in a mug of hot water and poach for a minute.
Brilliant...ty Darren
I use to put plastic foil over a pot with water in it and crack an egg on the plastic so it dips in the water but I gonna try this too
Great tip Darren Will certainly try it xx👍👍
Hope you enjoy
Evening Darren, used vereation on a theme 😊over the years. For my taste, yours needed another 30sec. The white was a little snotty & not quite set.But always open to new ideas ❤😊Cheers A Allan&Family
Quick question Darren but what is the wattage of your microwave ? I'll gauge how long to cook my poached egg effort by comparing the wattage of my microwave to yours.
800w = approx 55-60 seconds
900w = approx 50-55 seconds
@@DarrenJohn mine is a 1000W micro so I tried 50secs and they turned out perfect.
Med High or low
Learned something new. Thanks!
Like to know where you got those measuring cups from. Liked the look of them and wouldn’t mind getting them especially as they are microwave safe
Amazon
Looks lovely but I couldnt eat toast without lashings of butter. Will try recipe. Well done.
I have tried every method I have ever heard of so I’ll have to try this one ! so I’m going to have to get a cup !
also, does the timing change if I use two or more cups/eggs ? I think we should be told !
I don’t have a toaster, which is why I have a cooker with an eye level grill ! (no it isn’t I hate toasters)
PS does it make a difference if your cups are stonewear ?
Trial and error
wow nice.thankyou.never done poached eggs
Am I the only one who noticed the cup jump at 4:11 ....? Does anyone know why it did that?
Probably had a little water under it that turned to steam
so is it boiled water before it goes in the microwave? or cold water as from the vid?
room temperature
Dj I was sceptical..and I think I was right in being so..
That’s not a proper poach..
Better than the device I used to use and leave them like frisbees lol
All the best dj..
That made me laugh
@@DarrenJohn you know what device I mean..what it produced is not a poached egg haha
Absolutely brilliant but on a Sunday morning in my house there's 5 people all wanting a poached egg on toast at the same time. One at a time this method is great but that's it
Ive tried this many tines. Didnt work. What wattage is the microwave, it depends on that. I love poached eggs!😋😊
800w = 60 seconds
900w = 55 seconds - just an approximate gauge
@@DarrenJohn ok, thanks. I'll give it a go 😋
