- This tremendous tribute by the AFI (Australian Film Institute) gives Heath Ledger much deserved and long overdue recognition. A BIG THANK YOU TO THE AFI FOR HONOURING HEATH LEDGER SO BEAUTIFULLY. Watch the crowd pay their respect with a standing ovation and Heath's mother, father and sister accept the AFI award on his behalf. Note: The award is being presented by Michael Caton (lead actor in 'The Castle').
Sally and Kate - bravo!! - you were wonderful... Heath would have been so proud of you... My heart goes out to you and all your family...

I never thought i would cry so much about one actor. but heath was amazing and talented and he had so many roles that were waiting for him. Australia misses him so much and he was one of our proudest actors ever! Heath, we love you and we thank you for all the movies that you've made and the person you were. we hope that Matilda will keep good memories of you and remember the man that you were. we love you!

A well deserved award. A beautiful tribute and a wonderful speech by his family. When it popped up with him on TDK as Joker I went speechless. At that moment on this tribute, I realized even more of how he didn't even seem like himself as The Joker. Heath, you deserve this award and this tribute. You deserve an Oscar.

Very sweet. The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies and he did so good in it! I'm excited for this award season to see the awards he will receive. He deserves the Oscar and I hope that he wins!

That was very sweet. It was obviously very hard on his family to be there, especially his sister, but I don't think they would have missed it for the world. The best are never here long because God needs them even more than us. RIP Heath.
Finally a tribute that understands him and represents him accurately. Caton is right; he would have appreciated the honor, but it would have also embarrassed him. His peers saw the side of him that made him so loved; I wish more people understood who Heath was like this.
even though i will never meet him (damn it) Heath Ledger seemed like a guy who lived his life to the fullest in a very original and beautiful way that will never be forgotten

With tears rolling down my face I said to myself "he got a standing ovation". Michael Caton did a great job at presenting for Heath. This award is one more amazing tribute to one Mr. Heath Ledger

That's was scary... Looking at all of those performance when U can actualy see the actor and then watching him as the Joker... U just can't say that Joker is not real person... Damn, one of the best performences in the history of cinema.

Es una pena que haya fallecido tan joven, teniendo una hija, una carrera, pero bueno lamentablemente son cosas que pasan, esperemos que este bien, este donde este. Fue un gran actor que estara en la memoria de todos!

I know i already said thanks but watching this again i felt the need to say something.i read some of the posts here & i agree with you theres no doubt he did a fantastic job as the Joker however his body of work started yrs before that film.maybe some just saw him for the 1st time but others who call themselves fans, i wonder have they seen Clowning Around, Roar, Paws or Black Rock or his breathtaking work in Candy, Monsters Ball & The Four Feathers? Two Hands! So many. Heath was a genius
R.ip heath really good actor who passed away too early... ! :(i cant stand ppl that says he won so many awards only cuz he died ... thats not true if you know something about acting and passion you should know that he gave all of himself into playing the joker... it was so passionating so living so inspiring so good and new! one of the best performence of acting if not the best ever!! thats what i think R.i.p heath ledger we will miss u!

Heath's death came as quite a shock 2 me, as did the death of steve irwin - another well known austrailian whose work I admired & inspired me. I could'nt believe he had died. b4 he died I had seen him iin the patriot, a knight's tale, the brothers grimm & brokeback mountain - from then on I thought god what a gr8 actor he is. And when I finally came 2 see The Dark Knight in IMAX shortly after his death, it was totally unlike anything I've seen b4. His joker will go down in history! R.I.P Heath

I agree. I think Sally played an essential role in Heath turning out the way he did. I admire her strength, graciousness and positivity. I'm confident Heath watched from beyond and felt intensely proud of her and deeply touched by Kate's tears...

He was an amazing man, and currently, after watching this, my mum and I are both crying.
It was a beautiful tribute that they did.

I'd like to thank the AFI for a tribute that went far beyond of what I'd expected, after all the disappointments I had felt after previous tributes, this one for once truly honoured Heath. I feel so proud of the Australian Film Industry right now, it makes me proud to be Australian. And I have no words for Sally and Kate - you couldn't have honoured Heath better with your touching words and willingness to openly share your feelings
Just wanted to say that I think Michael Caton did an absolutely marvelous job at presenting this tribute. He expressed everything so perfectly and he spoke from the heart with utmost sincerity. I think the AFI made the perfect choice with him...
they should have given this recognition when he was still alive...
What a nice thing to say - thank you... Hopefully I'll be able to offer more in the future... Heath means the world to me and I wish that everyone was aware of what an incredibly special human being we've had amongst us. I'll do whatever I can to honour his memory...

I glad he got that award he deffantly diserved it. He was the best live Joker. I heard that the actor or actors that took his place in the film he was going to be in are giving his or their money to his daughter
@Chan3lprincess16 I'm the same. I hate Joker fans that probably never cared about Heath before that role and before he died. I followed his work for years and always enjoyed his perfomances. His Joker role was ok but his work in Ned Kelly, Brokeback and Monster's Ball were what he should really be remembered for.
Sad he passed away he seemed very intreresting in how he played very diverse roles....he never played one type of role.
I was not sure he would be good for the Joker but he ended up being very interesting and got the laugh down pat!

it feels like just yesterday he died and now its been a whole year..... his best role was the joker and he will be remembered as an iconic actor forever. and nobody will ever be as good of a joker as him.
I think there were too many movies to list them all... they primarily focused on his Australian movies as Australian receiving an Australian award...
