    Singing this song has to be like running a marathon, vocally. It's no wonder they barely ever do this one live. Still it's one of their best.

      agreed, but Steve Mazur been there almost 2 decades and has full respect on Mike Turner's guitar parts (except maybe at Gravity era where he started, and with Bob Rock as their control guy)
      sadly they may never be the 90s OLP anymore, but at least they still play Naveed and Clumsy.....

      @@analyticgeometry1 the bad part is that both Maida and Couts trashed Mike in an interview when the Gravity Album came out. It’s sad cause in a statement at the time they said it was amicable parting but really it wasn’t. Who would trash their former bandmate and say it’s amicable. Turner for his part has not said anything since parting ways.
      Our lady peace has not been the same since turner left. Only person who hasn’t said anything bad is Taggart and he’s also gone. Every member brought something unique.
      I couldn’t believe the interview put out and it hasn’t been refuted by either Maida or Couts

      Fábio Dias Right? He is a very hit or miss vocalist. A lot of the pro shot videos on UA-cam showcased him on an off day unfortunately, but if you dig enough you'll find good performances from him. Sadly these days he's a shell of his former self either way. His voice is so deep now.

      @@juicedeservedwhathegot5491 which is funny because I just watched a new live foo fighters performance and Dave Grohl can still howl like it's 1997. If anyone's voice should be blown out I'd think it should be his.
      But no, one crappy album and Raine just let his vocal chords get immediately lazier. And now...well the band's music is unrecognizable. They should just change the name and get it over with.

    Who's the guy playing bass, and is that Steve Mazur playing the les Paul, and Ik one of the commenters said Duncan had surgery to remove a tumor, so that's why I was asking who was playing bass.

    • @hmenon2003
      @hmenon2003 4 роки тому +4

      Can't recall who filled in for Duncan. I think I did at the time, but have forgotten.
      Mazur only joined during Gravity sessions after Turner left (or was forced out). The 2nd guitarist is Jamie Edwards. Jamie joined the band unofficially in the studio during "Happiness...Is a fish". He played on Happiness, this album (Spiritual Machines), and Gravity. He was made an official member during the gravity sessions, but subsequently left after recording it. Edwards role in the band grew more substantial on each subsequent album. The reason being Mike Turner's lead guitar playing skills being very limited, according to Raine Maida. In an interview sometime after Turner left, the rest of the band had said that they had wanted a true lead guitarist going back to the Clumsy days.
      Personally, while Turner's guitar playing is nothing special it serves it purpose and compliments the music overall very well. I always felt that Turner should have stuck around but maybe stepped officially more into Jamie Edwards' role, and then you bring in someone like Steve Mazur in. There is no question that ever since Turner left OLP, there has been something missing...

    Big fan of the first OLP 4 discs but this single was the beginning of the end for them. Listen to the sickeningly cliched opening chord progressions in this vid. This dreck is so far beneath them. I always skip this song when I listen to Spiritual Machines. And then I skipped them entirely when they canned Mike and put out Gravity. It's been all downhill ever since.
