I'm a mom and I was listening to this podcast about how to raise girls with good manners. At somepoint in a story he was telling, the speaker said, "...their parents have a really good marriage." This scene I watched years ago just popped up and here I am 😂
There are some really cool extras on the DVD. They wind up having rap battles with all the extras on the set. Then the best of the extras win a chance to rap battle Eminem. I'll let you guess how they did, lol.
I'm so glad Clarence decided to turn a clean slate, change his name to Sam Wilson and fight for the protection of Earth. Ain't no such thing as half-way crooks alright...
I just scrolled down to the comments after rewinding to watch that over again a few times because you're absolutely right. I don't think this gets ending gets enough credit for how well it works as the climax of a story. Because of the rap battle ser up, we get to see Rabbit overcome minibosses in quick succession and it's clear the character is in a different mindset than we've seen him in previously. He's really focused in on just him and who he's up against, and he's focusing on the words. When Lickity raps his facial expression doesn't change because I think he's not worried about anything he says. When he walks away, he seems to be being pulled from his thoughts when someone is congratulating him. Against Lotto though he's different. He even smiles at the leave it to Beaver line, and he's watching Lotto less than he watched Lickity. He seems more focused on the words and his response, and I think that focus shows in how he doesn't preamble. He just thinks for a while and goes in with the same high energy Lotto has, and deconstructs him really well. He also opens riffing off the Beaver line which I think really plays well with his next rap against Poppa Doc. I really like the interaction with Cheddar Bob, you can almost see Rabbit realizing "oh shit, I do know everything he could say about me." And his initial dread seems to settle into something more at peace and accepting. Initially he and Poppa Doc don't break eye contact, Rabbit doesn't look away until he's handed the mic. Poppa Doc also gets the advantage here, since he could play off what Rabbit says like he just did with the Beaver line. They have one last stare for the tension to build before Rabbit let's his body fall into the beat and immediately disconnects from Doc to focus on the crowd, because that's what matters right now. I think the movie does a really good job with showing how privilege is complicated, and in this majority black, impoverished, working class environment, Doc is more of an outsider as a child from a wealthy home than Rabbit is as a white guy raised in that environment. Rabbit recognizes this, shows that understanding that he's from here and people will recognize the truth of that. He shows how Doc is the outsider and he tears apart Doc's rap before he has a chance to spit it. After his rap, Rabbit doesn't give Doc any energy to play off, he gives him the stage and sits to the side. When the music starts, Rabbit is bobbing his head cool and collected, while Doc is shaken. And his actor deserves a lot of credit here too, he really sells trying to put on a front while desperately thinking but unable to come up with anything. When he looks to the crowd and stutters you can just see his heart isn't in it, he doesn't think he can do it. He looks over at Rabbit and Rabbit feels his gaze and looks over almost confused by why Doc isn't rapping yet. Cut back to Doc, and on the cut back to Rabbit, just that one second window where you see it hit him is just so fucking good after all the build up. And Eminem does an outstanding job selling that feeling here and it's so understated and real. I'm autistic, I have a really hard time reading people when I'm interacting with them socially, and i dont have a good intuitive sense of how im presenting myself through body language, expression, and tone. I'm always blown away to see actors who understand exactly how to portray the feelings and thoughts they want to. I'm really good now at interacting with people socially and I attribute a lot of it to the access I've had in my teens to media produced with actors who act so well they just feel like that character. It's always cool to watch a master work their craft, and as someone for whom interacting with people is hard work its incredible to be able to watch people who understand it on such a deep level.

6:09 shout out to the editors, Lickety says “ima fuck you up” in time with the beat so the rhythm of the freestyle isn’t interrupted by the interjection.
I too thought it worked perfectly, serving continuity, yet I believe it to be intentional that Lickety threw that line within that exact time frame between B Rabbit's rhymes, probably while actually filming the scene. It only makes sense that one off stage can only be heard out loud, when the person holding the mic pauses.
“Don’t ever try to judge me dude. You don’t know what the F I’ve been through! But I know something about you.” “Here tell these people something they don’t know about me.” Legend.

B Rabbit, B Rabbit, B Rabbit!!
This was too cool when you watched it for the first time all that time ago.
20 years that I watch this movie and every time it's like the first.
Did he just wiped out an entire group? i have not watched the film yet

Yeah we don’t get 8 mile on Australian Netflix, used to be on there but cunts removed it
