There is only one Mike Turner. An ear for melody and timing that few guitar players can match. Plus a modest enough ego to never overpower the music. I always prefer his understated approach.
I honestly never really noticed him THAT much as a guitar player but on the flipside the band turned to shit after he left soooo...maybe there's something to it? lol
I met Mike once after a crash Karma show in RedDeer and he is a very genuine dude. He chatted for a bit with us about his studio and reluctantly signed my gfs boobs lol stating his gf might not be too happy about this. He is definitely a Riff/Rhythm maker and did the same thing Malcolm Young did for AC/DC. Without it, it’s just not the same.
@@davidandrews6631 that voice had to crap out eventually :( I remember the first time I heard him live on MTV and thought "there's no way a human being is singing that" lol
In 1997 was senior year for me, and i wanted the cd so bad after hearing the song on radio(didnt have the money haha), and then i requested the song on Houston Radio 94.5 buzz when it was release that day in 97, and saw the video on MTV real late at night, great song btw. Memories .... I actually played the whole song on my guitar w/ accoustic song on my line 6 pod go(I know all the chords hehe), great song still. Lot of great bands back then...
Lol these comments about Raines singing are killing me. Fuck off he is the man ! I shook his hand and got his autograph when I was 14 years old at one of their concerts . Very humble man
Nothing like the 90s with bike riding, free. someone stole a really cool bike from me that I built with every penny I could find. Hope they enjoyed as much as I did. Seemed like that was the end of the 1990s for me lol.
I'm always so curious about what happened to Raine Maidas voice. From 1995-1997 he sounded really good live. Not perfect, but good. Then, around 1999, he somehow completely lost his sense of pitch. He's regained it a bit recently, but he became so off pitch live around 1999 it became unlistenable.
Could have to do with his hearing? It's not that uncommon for rock musicians to blow their ears out and not be able to hear the monitors properly anymore, and it can be pretty tricky to sing on pitch without being able to tell what's coming out of your mouth and adjusting to that feedback in real time.
I hate how old footage sucks so bad and everything new is so clear and HD but I'm not interested in new so I wish all the new bullshit pos music was blurry af and this shit was crystal.
Actually I just watched him sing it in 2019, where he’s actually singing with some technique. He probably figured out 15 years ago that he needed vocal lessons or else he was going to destroy his career. He actually sings pretty well now, technically, it just doesn’t sound as cool
@@gorchcleave5393 Vocal strain. His falsetto and high fluttering notes dropping right into belting out as hard as he can isn't proper technique, nor a natural way of singing. You can see in the performance here physically, his rigid body language, he's struggling to get up and down throughout the song and get sustainable breathing patterns. Despite just singing, he looks like he's in a fight. Raine tends to do this with his songwriting. He writes incredibly complex vocal songs and will lay them down for a record through multiple takes for perfection, but that means performing the songs live is a very demanding task to reproduce perfectly. So it's a battle when he has to replicate that live. Nowadays he's adjusted his style to be less straining on his vocal cords, singing at a much lower register, and will use his high notes sparingly in concerts. Otherwise the amount of performing he does with such difficult material he would've damaged his cords years ago.
His live voice is exactly like the recordings. An amazing voice

Like the lead for matchbox. He just plays enough to lift the song without taking over
Band wasn't the same after he left.
I honestly never really noticed him THAT much as a guitar player but on the flipside the band turned to shit after he left soooo...maybe there's something to it? lol
They let him go because supposedly Raine thought he was a terrible guitarist and ironically his departure destroyed the band.

Ridiculously good performance.
these guys were stellar when they were in there prime. Unfortunately all good things must end.

GorcStew voice hasn’t crapped out at all. Maybe not reaching the high notes as often but still amazing live.
Ridiculously Awful
@@dougcollier4327 oohhh we found a pop Guy
The is the best live version of this song I've seen
No seriously. He actually sang in key for once!
Agree. The vocals are aggressive.

There is a reason why this video got no dislikes
I think you’re the reason it finally did. 😕

The 90s were amazing.
Raine, Rob Thomas, Billy Corgan, and Matthew Bellamy I can always recognize their voices no matter what. I love unique voices.
I can't help but sing hard and tears pour when I hear this song!!!!!!
Damn does he sound good live, the singer.
Doesn’t anybody ever know, doesn’t anybody ever know, doesn’t anybody ever know the world’s a subway, subway
That Chet Atkins SST is gorgeous. I still want one of those guitars.
Great music.
Great drummer
It's Jeremy Taggart. Very highly regarded drummer in the industry.
They are nothing without his power and propulsion.
I wish his voice still sounded like this.
he often didnt even sound like this back then lol. Hes very inconsistent live. This is a really good performance for him.
It’s because the stuff he’s singing is hard af
That would be impressive if he could maintain this same super high pitch for decades but not realistic.
True but this band kicks ass
The drummer is the whole band. He sounded like a lost goat.
Best performance of song I've ever heard
2:06 Mike goes to the A instead of the B oops
Oh my lol. I kind of forgot about this song. G'damn this is awesome!! "He's livin in my head!".
Thanks for sharing!
such a natural performer
Thanks!! damn what an amazing live voice! now im going to apple music to find their acoustic music!🤘🏻
OLP, god damn what a band. Are they still touring?
Yes always! Post Covid we hope asap. I see them every year.
Spiritual Machines 2 otw!
Better live wow fire 🔥
One of the most easily recognizable voices of 90s rock.
Fuck yeah!
Unreal performance. Unreal singing. Wasn't one of y favorite bands. I may have even overlooked them a bit.
Saw em at Lupo's in Providence in late 90's.....any of you were there?

Probably messed up his vocal cords singing like that.
Age plus vocal fatigue
❤❤
1:58 what did he say?
😂😂
Focus on the weather, weather you can or you can not hate.....
I worry about the weather whether not youre right
Focus on the weather, whether I should hate, hate ah
Anyone else think this dude kinda sounds like billy Corgan?
No. I can honestly say the thought never occurred to me.
#imlying #itotallydid #evenrecentlylmao
I can see that. Both have that high pitched winey voice.
He was lambasted when the band came out for being accused of imitating Corgan.
" That the worlds a SUBWAY SUBWAY.....".......strange after watching The Matrix Revolutions.....Neo in the SUBWAY....🤔👀

I know right...
Back when this MF could still actually sing.....
There was no way he could keep singing that way for long. As cool as it sounds, it was never “singing”
