What I love about you guys playing these mods, is that this is what it was like for us playing games for the time as kids and having no idea what anything does, and not having played enough yet to recognize any patterns. Good stuff guys, keep it up. Thanks.
6:22 actually the falling was pretty obvious since the moving platform got you through walls before :) And I like how the home-brew developers turn bugs into intended part of the game. Much like bunny-hoping and strafe/circle jumping became a definitive quality of Quake.
I quickly checked the comments and I'm amazed to see no one else pointed this out...did no one else realize the character is Milon from AVGN's Milon's Secret Castle? :D
You're meant to press Jump when the spring is in the process of launching you, not when it squishes down. Also in Lost Levels you can bounce off of the jellyfish if you're not in a water level and they also will either home in on you, swim in the opposite direction to what you're facing or swim in the direction you're facing (one of the 3, it won't switch behaviour). Also if their above you and you're small man they'll never be able to sink down on to you. Also that floating platform near the start of the 2nd level? Why ride it all the way down? Just ride it down a tiny amount, walk left and off of it and then right and under it!
I find myself, from time to time, leaning to the side or sitting up/stretching my neck to get a better view around cover/obstacles in games. It still doesn't work.
2:21 The metroid thing.. he doesn't come to you if you are looking at it xD You turned your back and it started coming to you but when you turned towards it then it started going other way. I always loved that thing about these squids in mario games (even original ones) since they all didn't act the same way.. some had more random patterns or then they came to you when you looked at them but went the other way if you turned back..
Always love these. Sometime you guys should upload an unedited play-through. I think you might have done that once but I feel like I can never get enough and it would be fun to watch a really long unedited cut of an entire play though.
Hey Mike, I always found SMB springs to be hard, but then I just figured out that double tapping the jump button will make you use the high jump everytime.
You know. I have a feeling all of those glitches we're on purpose. It being a dream world with Mr. Sandman as the title makes t hem make sense within the world. The game mechanics were designed based around the glitches.
I'm not up for any of these xxxtra hard ass Mario mods. If I want to be punished, I'll just play Japanese Mario 2. Nuff respect to those with the knowledge to make it and to those with the skill to enjoy it
For sure. I like a mild challenge with my platformers. It's why I love the Donkey Kong Country series so much. It doesn't ramp up until much later in the game and even then it's a fair challenge.
I'm sick of these guys and them always talking about their vode game bulshit. I've had enough of it I've had it up to here and once again I've had enough. I'm super mega Ultra tired of hearing about their vode game horseshit.
I shall trade you one Halibut dorsal fin for one Cod key. We shall make this deal upon the shores of Clifden, Ireland. If you sick mush me I shall scab your name.
Umm.. "paesano" means "person from a village". We don't use it much in north Italy. Maybe it's from a dialect in the south, as some there say "hey paisà" to greet informally. Btw "compaesano" = "fellow countryman".
When Mike finally made it over the spring just to dies one second later: priceless.
Mike turns into Seinfeld at 5:29
lol
Denim Jacket...
Jim Croce t-shirt...
I thought for a second that my grandfather was playing with Mike.
The 'glitches' are ones that were present in the original SMB, there were just never/very few levels where they could be encountered.
the character sprite looks like milon from milon's secret castle
Funny reaction from both 3:02.
What I love about you guys playing these mods, is that this is what it was like for us playing games for the time as kids and having no idea what anything does, and not having played enough yet to recognize any patterns. Good stuff guys, keep it up. Thanks.
Except that this is still Mario.
This game looks insane but I'm giving Mike so many props for being a fan of Grimes!
MOFO MIKE: "Springs! I hope I never see another spring as long as I live!"
COILY: "Now you fucked up! Now you fucked up! You have fucked up now!"
That part at 2:55 was classic NES bullshit!
Mr. Sandman looks like 8-bit Link with his pajama outfit on.
6:22 actually the falling was pretty obvious since the moving platform got you through walls before :)

3:00 is the face of a man losing his last shred of sanity.
At 5:50 Mike is looking like that Steve-O laughing meme.
Well, at least we know now what a Mario game would be like on a ZX Spectrum.
I actually quite like the graphics in this game, they clearly put some effort into making it look cool, different, and interesting.
"Mr. Sandman, bring me a drink..."
Mike, the trick to the springs is to spam the jump button when landing on the spring
6:37 - Everyone knows the key to the spring is holding your breath :-)
There's no key to that spring shit a there never will be.. :D
I quickly checked the comments and I'm amazed to see no one else pointed this out...did no one else realize the character is Milon from AVGN's Milon's Secret Castle? :D
Jason S ur not the only one so did I my friend
SHIT, you're right!! Well, you say that like he created the game, but I know what you mean.
You're meant to press Jump when the spring is in the process of launching you, not when it squishes down. An angry Mike is a hilarious Mike!
3:04 is the best moment in game history
you can feel the pain coming through the screen
Mike, the Bloobers often try to anticipate where you are going, by looking at the direction youre facing.
Sandman looks like a Minecraft villager. Nose going over the mouth.
In the springs you don't need to time the jump, just repeatedly hit the jump button and it will work.
The springs used to get me too. It's such a weird mechanic.
Steering the NES controller like a wheel...
That's SO classic...
I find myself, from time to time, leaning to the side or sitting up/stretching my neck to get a better view around cover/obstacles in games. It still doesn't work.
8:01 - I have the same expression as Mike when I go through UA-cam comment sections.
What if I had a profile picture of a toddler? What that make me a molester?
Mike really prefers to use the term mod over hack
yeah even tho it's the wrong fucking word to use
jayray4200
Is that a Grimes t-shirt? Very Cool.
2:21 The metroid thing.. he doesn't come to you if you are looking at it xD You turned your back and it started coming to you but when you turned towards it then it started going other way. 3:16 "heyy that's pretty good" idubbbz reference.
Always love these. Sometime you guys should upload an unedited play-through. I think you might have done that once but I feel like I can never get enough and it would be fun to watch a really long unedited cut of an entire play though.
That's why I like the live streams -- because they are unedited play-throughs.
You know those super satisfying compilation vids? This mod is the opposite of those
Cracking up at the fails right with you guys. Good stuff.
At 5:51 Mike looks EXACTLY LIKE the laughing guy meme!
Yao Ming Face / Bitch Please are the correct names
William Brall K
@Mei Perfect!
12:04 HANDS HOLDING A PLUMBER! (which dont wear ties)
You need to press the A button when you're leaping from the spring, not when you're at the lowest point.
You guys need to live stream one of these hard as shit NES mods. I could watch hours of the reactions they make you two have.
5:24 lolz!
it's cool that mike listens to grimes
"Badder than old King Kong"
Larry Smears Badder 😂
5:29 great jerry seinfeld impression
You guys inspired me to play and beat this today. I might put up a long play since no one has uploaded one yet
Mike is slowly descending into madness here.
I'm always surprised when Mike sings. Dude's got a good voice!
Nice Jim Croce t-shirt
androide81 was gonna leave the same comment.
cheers mate
Same.
Jumping puzzles: Everybody's favorite!! Let's base a whole game around it.. Genius!! -.-
Springs are my most hated part of Mario games, too. I can never get the hang of them.
2:57 The moment this game drove them into lunacy
Enter, Mr Sandman
sandman? more like milon's secret castle cousin.
he looks like from milons castle or whatever it's called
"You're stuck in the wall again..." ~Guitar Guy Ikari Warriors
At the end of the play, the cannons are shooting hypodermic needles.
Hey Mike,
I always found SMB springs to be hard, but then I just figured out that double tapping the jump button will make you use the high jump everytime.
Mr Sandman makes me think of the song from Halloween.
dammit was going to say that
mr sandman makes me think of enter sandman - metallica
you can only laugh or cry in anguish when the game tricks you.
Please sing more, Mike.
You know. I have a feeling all of those glitches we're on purpose. It being a dream world with Mr. Sandman as the title makes t hem make sense within the world. The game mechanics were designed based around the glitches.
Perfect timing. 👍🏼
3:02 LMAO
That expression at 6:05.
Zatracenec XDD
Question. Where do you all get these homebrews? I'd love to try these out. Anywho, you guys are great.
KryptixTV - Gaming
Thanks. I'll look around for some. Some look pretty fun. :)
3:20 AM EST upload jesus... I cant believe im still awake.
this game should be an excellent avgn next episode! doooo it!
11:54 shooting syringes full of tranquilizer!
This feels like the SMB "Air" hack only graphically changed.
isent that "mr sandman" milon from milons secret castle?
Wow that looked very much a hard task
This is the earliest I've ever seen a video from them lol.
The character looks a lot like Milon from the Secret Castle.
"Or Millon or Meelon, whatever... Who cares..."
-AVGN
:)
Mr sandman?
More like Mr glitchy as fuck guy
Jumping the flagpole an going on eternally is a common bug in the original super mario as well. XD
I could feel the frustration in this video.
I hope this is on the NES Classic Mini! Lol
The glowing jellyfish (the Bloopers) look like they belong in a Vectrex game
...Enter The Sandman
Say your prayers, little one
Don't forget, my son
To include everyone!
love it when you guys play Mario hacks. cant wait for the next :)
I want a Jim Croce T-shirt.
Mike showed his "Oh" face. lol
I'm sick of these guys and them always talking about their vode game bulshit. I've had enough of it I've had it up to here and once again I've had enough. I'm super mega Ultra tired of hearing about their vode game horseshit.
Milon's secret castle character+Atari backgrounds+SMB game play+Difficult straight from Battletoads and SMB Lost levels= Mr. Sandman
I shall trade you one Halibut dorsal fin for one Cod key. We shall make this deal upon the shores of Clifden, Ireland. If you sick mush me I shall scab your name.
Isn't it just holding jump before you hit the spring?
Or is that the mechanic for all the later Mario games?
SmashTom that came later, Mario 1 didn't have that.
@@gurvmlk since no one answered. I'll point out that SmashTom said jump. Not up. If this was a fighting game. That would be a different story.
I miss the good old days with James...
I would probably throw my NES through the TV screen if i played this mod..
then you should not play games :P
I wasn't asking for an opinion when i wrote that...
David Rodriguez someone can't take a joke....
he looks so much like Milon!)
Character looks like Milon from Milon's Secret Castle. Figures.
let's make a gif of 5:24 right now please, that's gold mike
Mikes faces crack me up. I bet he makes the same faces when he watches porn lol.
This looks kinda trippy!
cool grimes t
Milon's Secret Hipster Minimalist Castle.
"Pizzano" means friend or cousin in Italian. I found that out from a real Italian speaker.
Uh? friend=amico, cousin=cugino, pizzano=?
pyzano? I may have spelled it wrong. "Hey pyzanos! It's the Super Mario Brothers Super Show!"...
Umm.. "paesano" means "person from a village". We don't use it much in north Italy.
Maybe it's from a dialect in the south, as some there say "hey paisà" to greet informally.
Btw "compaesano" = "fellow countryman".
Ok thanks sir.
You could actually make these levels in Super Mario Maker and they would be playable lol!!
*There was this one time where I was tryin' to be a baller, a shot caller. I put 20 inch blades on my impala. Can anyone relate?*
*Did you call her and get laid tonight? Most importantly was the swisher rolled tight?*
Hi Mike, have you ever thought about playing the castlevania series for gameboy?
Awesome! Boots Baby!!!!!!!!!!
