Wow Ford is the smartest Car manufacturer in the world. Bulb out: no worries that’ll take an hour and a half and cost $400.00. I have a directional bulb out on my 2017. I swear to the Ford Gods I will only do half of this a change that f*ing bulb. Thanks for the video.
Unfortunately swapping out even a stock halogen bulb with another halogen involves this process. Many of these newer vehicles aren't as easy as they used to be!
Replaced mine n 2016. Didn't do any of this. I looked. I thought. I loosened a few easy to reach parts... Done deal. Not saying it was fun or easy but way less than this. Why ford hasn't just been installing LEDs to begin with is most likely to the fact that light emitting diodes are constantly growing, kind of like computer software etc. Still the vehicle should really have something easier for the typical citizen (user) to replace.
Go look at all the complaints Honda Accord owners have concerning the LED headlights on the newer Accords, replacements (not sure if it includes labor costs) run $400.
I agree, we need better car design regulations. Instead they have impossibly high muffler standards, and I still hear annoying loud straight pipes on the street.
Ok so how tf do you put everything back on. Currently stuck sitting here scratching head trying to remember where every little thing went and yall cant even include a reassemble part of this video.
I actually really like this car, I have a 2016. The engineering is ridiculously poor however. Clearly Ford engineers never gave a thought to something as routine as changing headlight bulbs. Related: these are the weakest bulbs I've had in a car since the 70's. Yes, it's that bad.
Hey there! The quality that you get with a pair of $150 SL1s from us will be far superior to that of a cheaper HID kit. With cheap kits like that, often times the quality is extremely poor, only lasting a year or two in many cases. The SL1 is rated at over 40,000 hours worth of use.
Diode Dynamics I do not mean any kits. I mean the cost of the bulbs themselves. A top tier HID bulb pair costs about $130 bucks ( we are talking higher echelon like OSRAM Xenarc and stuff).
You do realize you don’t need to do all of that to replace the bulb correct? All you need to do is remove all outside bumper bolts and let the bumper hang off just enough to remove the headlight, this is why people remove the headlight and replace the bulb. It’s way easier and you don’t need to deal with tight spaces!
There definitely are many different ways to do this application. This was the way we felt was the most effective for our application! Thanks for the feedback, Anthony!

That is correct. These bulbs and all other LED replacement bulbs on the market are legal for offroad use only. These LED bulbs mimic the output of factory halogen bulbs to have the same output pattern, while being far more intense than any halogen bulb on the market.
@@diodedynamics ok, thanks.... I am in TX, and checked - - Are LED headlights legal in Texas? Yes, vehicles with LED bulb headlights are legal in Texas.
@@S1L3NTG4M3R LED Headlights from the factory are legal to use on the roads, yes! However, LED Bulbs in halogen housings are not legal for on-road use in the US. That's one of the reasons we made the video, so you don't have to take it to the dealership. While a little more involved that some other vehicles, it is certainly something most people can handle in their driveway!
@Steve Vento actually, the UK market got this "update" to the Mondeo about 2-3 YEARS after the US did, so not entirely sure you can call it a European designed car. BTW, in the UK the Mondeo/Fusion is available as a wagon AND a 5 door sedan as well as the more normal 4 door the US gets. It also has an available manual transmission and diesel engines.
@Steve Vento True, but Ford is owned and run by Americans, at least at the corporate level. Someone should be fired, or fix this. This is ridiculous just to change a bulb.

This is insanely time-consuming. There must be an easier way...
Unfortunately swapping out even a stock halogen bulb with another halogen involves this process. Many of these newer vehicles aren't as easy as they used to be!
This guy is BS. Only way (sad) is pull the bumper off and pull out light assy. WATCH ALIGNMENT OF BULB VERY CRITICAL.
There definitely is.. I just finished mine
For the life of me I dont understand why leds dont just come in the car allready so stupid
That's what we're here for! 😊
Hey there - for reassembly, just follow our video, but in reverse.
So you need to pull all that apart to not even get the 3/4 to 1in of space to still need 6yr old girl hands to kinda fit the bulb in???
Hey Leon - while there are certainly other ways of doing this, this was the technique that we found easiest for us.
I actually really like this car, I have a 2016. The engineering is ridiculously poor however. Clearly Ford engineers never gave a thought to something as routine as changing headlight bulbs. Related: these are the weakest bulbs I've had in a car since the 70's. Yes, it's that bad.
Do you mean the stock bulbs or the leds in this video?
$150 for a couple of halogen bulb replacements? That's more expensive than a pair of much more superior HIDs in proper HID reflectors.
A top tier HID bulb pair costs about $130 bucks ( we are talking higher echelon like OSRAM Xenarc and stuff).
too tricky for me.
We have installers all over if you need any help! www.diodedynamics.com/find-a-dealer
What a complicated process just to change the headlamp bulb. The older models was a two-step process with a single tool. Dammit Ford...
Trust us, we wish it was more straightforward as well!
Should we be listening to a guy that's using a harbor freight drill lol
Luckily when you're just changing out light bulbs, you don't need a fancy drill!
@@diodedynamics yeah but what would be the reason for having that drill in the first... Yes I know it gets the job lol I'm just joking around with you anyways.. get the DeWalt 12 volt for that small stuff
Huh? - - *This product is not DOT compliant for use in headlamps on public roads in the United States.
This is because the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) consider it a headlight modification, which is not allowed by national law.
U dont need to do.that on the 2017 and up maybe even the 2016 lol
Love my 2016, but now I hate it. This is a stupid level of work to change a bulb. My Crown vic and Dodge intrepid were never like this.
teamhex yeah I miss my 00 crown Vic P71 just two metal parts to pull out and wala headlight assembly is out..
This is too much
Hey there! You can search our Authorized Dealer Map for a professional installer here: www.diodedynamics.com/find-a-dealer
Now I remember why I hate American cars. The littlest repairs are pain in the Ass to get to. I'm just gonna take my car into the shop
This is wayyyy too much!! Omg!! I know the dealership is going to charge me so much!!
That's one of the reasons we made the video, so you don't have to take it to the dealership. While a little more involved that some other vehicles, it is certainly something most people can handle in their driveway!
You want to complain about a headlight replacement I work at Ford replacing those engines you want to talk about bulshit I can give you some stories
I don't know how those cars even made it out the dealership after seeing this trash. Smh
This is ridiculous! just to change a headlight I need an 100 step instruction guide. Horrible job Ford on such a great car. smh
Sneak your hand in there...... If you have 6 year old girl hands. You have little girl hands.
Stupid ford for making this design took me hours just to replace the headlights
That’s too much too do to change it to LEDS Ford always on their bullshit
If this is how u have to get to bulbs to change them this is a piece of shit car. And a poor designe by ford
American car sucks
@Steve Vento
actually, the UK market got this "update" to the Mondeo about 2-3 YEARS after the US did, so not entirely sure you can call it a European designed car.
I say Audis are some of the most rust free vehicles on the road. They just continuously leak oil all the time. All over the components they have no rust. So smart....not
Not worth the effort.
I don't know, if I had to spend half a day installing these lights but knew I would be rewarded with more light at night....I have the time, I would do it.
