@@trainingverse007 Not sure what you mean. You follow the directions in the video and when you get the hood stop out of the way and the rubber cup you reach down and turn the bulb assembly to release it. You need small hands or a girl to get her hand down there.

This is WAY EASIER than other methods I saw posted!!! It honestly took 5-10 minutes per light. The first was about 10 minutes, the second was about 4. Much better than taking the front of the car apart and dealing with those stupid body panel clips! Great explanations also!!
While this isn't too bad, and I'm sure a whole lot easier than taking off the bumper like some videos show... I came here to check out how to change my headlights since I just changed my wife's, on her Honda CRV. No instruments required, and it legit took under 2 minutes per side. Excellent, thorough guide. I was able to replace the light bulb myself for $17, the most car repair experience I have is changing a tire, changing oil, and changing transmission fluid
Just did this to my 2013 ford fusion. Only gave up once! Not bad! Key was finding a spot for 2 fingers from each hand to twist counter clock wise in the *CORRECT PART* of the blulb & insert piece. If you're trying to grab onto the plastic/glass part you're too far in with your fingers.
I agree, that was the tricky part and the one 10 mm bolt that requires an extension worked better on a handle that turns like a screwdriver rather than a socket handle, at least for me. Also there is a little tab you press down on to release the light bulb. I didn't realize that was there at first and the old bulb just wouldn't come off the socket. I almost never do car repairs and I'm looking forward to getting something else to drive later this year. Replacing the light bulbs and various air filters is WAY too complicated in the Ford Fusion and my kids have Kia and Hyundai cars... the process in those is just a trivial DIY. So thankful for channels like these.

The previous owner of my 2016 Fusion had the headlights replaced by a local mechanic before I bought the car, but less than a year later one of them went out. @The Driver Mod for real man, you helped out a lot of people. When I first saw the bumper video I was super discouraged and almost just took my car in. They were gonna charge me 150 to replace both headlights. Literally used the video yesterday and did it in like 5 mins haha
Had to leave a comment. You are amazing! I have done it the other way which is terrible and long. When I saw my headlight out this week I decided I rather pay someone else. But when the dealer quoted me over $400 and the lowest small shop said $285, meh… I guess I’ll do it again. Thank goodness I came across your video. No more than 10 mins first first bulb, 5 for second. Thank you thank you!
All I cam elaborate on is making sure you get the proper leverage on the bulb to spin it the proper direction. Not sure what else to say really. Sometimes you gotta get creative with what you are using tool wise
Mine were the original bulbs and they were cranked on so hard I couldn't get them to budge so I used a large, angled needle nose pliers to reach down in there and grab the plastic end of the bulb and put some rotational force on it to get it to start moving. Ultimately it loosened. Then it was no problem. This is the most difficult part of the process.
thanks. couldnt figure out the bumper and had to pay a shit ton to get my indicator bulb replaced. Now that the headlight went out im happy I can do it myself. Just went out and I was able to pop out the old bulb so now I'm just waiting for my Amazon delivery
@@THEDriverMod_ struggling with the last step. I get it seated into the housing but it won't seem to fully twist into place. Did you have to put a lot of pressure in order to fully twist it in?

Thanks for the video. I have a headlight out so I'm also going to do the running light that I've been putting off forever. It's the light you have on in the very beginning. Sylvania's website says that's also an H11-- it looks different to me. Do you happen to know for sure if it's the same?
@@THEDriverMod_ I got the headlight done today and that's the important one. Can confirm they're different-- now to figure out what that one is haha. Thanks for the reply!
Thank you so much for this, saved so much money and it wasn’t that hard! I wonder if I could change the high beams like this because there’s no video of how to replace them without taking the bumper off. Or is that even possible?
I tried this once but I couldn't get the headlight to twist out. I think I was scared to put too much force on twisting it because I didn't want to break anything.. I had to give up and put everything back together really quickly because the rain was coming, but I'm getting ready to try again. How hard should I twist it?
@@keligyrlI think my telling it I was going to smash it with a baseball bat it finally gave me the headlight. Lol. HOWEVER, now my driver side headlight is out. I spent two hours trying to get it, and the auto center at Walmart took an hour and they couldn't do it because they were too scared to break anything. So I'm getting ready to take off the entire front bumper and take out the entire headlight housing. This will be fun. I guess it's good I'm a girl who doesn't mind getting dirty. Lol
It looks pretty tight in getting your hand between the chassis and the hole to the light compartment. I'm afraid that my fat hand won't be able to maneuver the bulb in there. I'm still going to give it a shot. Thanks for the video.
just a shout out, used this and it worked just as shown. took less than half hour. gotta say, cut up my hands pretty good lol.... but I can not believe the amount of UA-cam that say you have to remove the bumper,, so not true. thanks for the insight,, thumbs up from and ooooold guy lol.
Now I’m conflicted…. I used the bumper cover removal in the past and was going to to do that again, but the cover tabs are breaking and will probably take your advice. I’m also considering removing the active grill and will have to remove the cover for that job. I’ll try your method for now.
@@THEDriverMod_ Thanks! And, yes, it worked well, took a lot less time, and preserved my bumper cover tabs. Thanks for this post and for the encouragement!

How is it at night? I know that some bulbs look much brighter when looking at the light from the outside of the car staring at it straight on, but don't cast the light outward very well at all when out on a darker road without overhead streetlights.
I have spent an hour trying to get the bulb itself out. Any other videos or explanations on how to twist the bulb out as i cant see anything or what I'm doing?
Why is the wiring so short on the drivers side, on my passenger side I was able to fully pull out the connector but on the drivers side the wire has no give
I had the same problem, no slack to get the connector out of the hole. One of the wires going to the connecter was pinched between two plastic parts when the assembly was glued together. Had to take the whole headlight assembly out, and then cut and splice the wire. I guess the guy building that part didn't care.
Both my headlights are out but my high beams still work. I checked for blown fuse and there isn't a fuse in f20 and I bought my fusion from a dealer. Could both my bulbs just be out? Or am I missing fuses?
On the 2014, to remove the bulb from the socket, once you get that removed, you have to press a tab to get the bulb to release. Hard to do with only 2 hands, and mine may have been stuck pretty because I’m pretty sure it’s the original.
100% correct. It took me some time because the videos I had watched noted you just pull the old bulb out of the socket. You have to push that little tab and it releases. Mine were the original bulb and there were in there pretty tight and I used an angled needle nose pliers to get the movement started.
Question i replaced both headlights, but the drivers beam appears to illuminate to the left now. And the original light that was out worked for 4 days and it's out again. Any thoughts?
@@THEDriverMod_ I have several lights out and the manual doesn’t really show which is which. I assume the round ones are the main headlights, but there are two small ones on each side-one is the bright light, but the other small one-is it the “running” or “parking” lights?
I have a 2009 Fusion and Ford put a "bulb access" panel in the wheel well. I think Ford defines "access" different than I do! What possesses car designers to make it so difficult to change a light bulb? Is it their way of ensuring the car ends up in a service bay?
Great video! Just a small recommendation when replacing them: You should not touch a headlamp bulb because the oils from your fingers can transfer to the glass, creating "hot spots" that can cause the bulb to overheat, burn out prematurely, or even shatter, especially with halogen bulbs which operate at high temperatures; always use gloves or a clean cloth when handling them to avoid contamination. Key points about not touching a headlamp bulb: Oil residue: Natural oils on your hands can leave a residue on the bulb, which can disrupt the even distribution of heat when the bulb is turned on. Reduced lifespan: This uneven heat distribution can significantly shorten the life of the bulb. Potential damage: In extreme cases, the localized heat from the oil residue can cause the glass to crack or shatter. What to do instead: Use gloves: Wear latex or nitrile gloves when handling headlamp bulbs. Clean with alcohol: If you accidentally touch the bulb, clean it with a clean cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol before installing
Thank you for posting this video! My passenger side light was out and using this method I replaced it pretty easily. Wanted to change out the driver's side too since they were both original. But I just couldn't get my hands in there far enough to get the bulb out. Oh well, I'll wait till it burns out before I'll try to take the bumper loose!
@@sevenlyons I almost gave up. The passenger side was easier for some reason but these original bulbs are cranked in there very tight. I ended up using an angled needle nose pliers to grab the thing and give it the business to get it moving. I guess I just got lucky, but before I set out on doing this, I had decided I was going to WIN and not have to go to the dealer, lol.
I timed it. I don’t know anything about cars whatsoever and am a worthless mechanic. It took me 3 hours the other way where I removed the bumper and it took me 37 minutes using this method. I did several things wrong and it took me several attempts and it was 37 minutes total.
@@zenasslatton1809 agree that this video was a game changer. One other one for me was a unique video I found that helped me replace a spring inside a microwave door handle when the door wouldn't latch all of a sudden. Like this headlight, that was also a little design flaw that could have been avoided. UA-cam has been a Godsend but it is frustrating to see other vehicles where doing stuff like this, such as changing cabin air filters is so trivial if they would just decide to make stuff easy in the design process.

@@THEDriverMod_ I got it by loosening all the right bolts and wedging 2x4 boards into the space between headlight and that frame and gave me enough room to get hand 🤚 in there and turn counterclockwise and pop it out
You just saved me $200 - many thanks!
Throw me a tip! Cashapp $avb1992
I noticed my light was out last night and i got to say all the videos was about taking the bumper off and i seen your clip 1 time only and it was super easy!!!! Thank you!!! I did it in lees that 15mins
Thank you for the awesome, positive feed back!
@The Driver Mod for real man, you helped out a lot of people. When I first saw the bumper video I was super discouraged and almost just took my car in. They were gonna charge me 150 to replace both headlights. Literally used the video yesterday and did it in like 5 mins haha
That's awesome to hear man! I'm glad it's been a helpful video for soo many people!
@@johndamper2934I can almost hear the fz150 shoe cleaning guy .. " I just saved myself a hundred and fifty bucks" lol
@@rogerbussiii for real 😂😂
Had to leave a comment. You are amazing! I have done it the other way which is terrible and long. When I saw my headlight out this week I decided I rather pay someone else. But when the dealer quoted me over $400 and the lowest small shop said $285, meh… I guess I’ll do it again.
Thank goodness I came across your video. No more than 10 mins first first bulb, 5 for second.
Thank you thank you!
That's awesome to hear. Appreciate the feed back
$400 BUCKS!!! Omg, I'd do it for free after watching this. That's crazy.
Thanks for the video. My fat hands had a hard time with this and it took way longer than it should have but was able to do it myself.
Saved yourself quite a good bit of money so I'd say it was werth it
I’m having trouble with the bulb rotation part could you elaborate as to getting it out
All I cam elaborate on is making sure you get the proper leverage on the bulb to spin it the proper direction.
Thanks, this helped me do this myself and saved 450 dollars which the dealer quoted me.
You're welcome!! Feel free to leave a tip on my cashapp $avb1992
I would greatly appreciate it!
Trust me. It's not as easy as he makes it look.
I’m trying to turn the bulb and I can’t get a complete firm grip of it. How were you able to get down there?
Try using angled needle nose pliers
thanks. couldnt figure out the bumper and had to pay a shit ton to get my indicator bulb replaced. Now that the headlight went out im happy I can do it myself.
Just went out and I was able to pop out the old bulb so now I'm just waiting for my Amazon delivery
Easy day! Good job
@@THEDriverMod_ struggling with the last step. I get it seated into the housing but it won't seem to fully twist into place. Did you have to put a lot of pressure in order to fully twist it in?
what are the lights next to the headlights? both sides are out for my car
Very helpful video. Replaced both lights myself just now and you made it simple. Thank you!!
You're very welcome. Appreciate the postive feedback letting everyone else know as well!
What year is your car ? I have a 2015 fusion and its a little different than yours. For instance my hood bumper stop has a bridge that needs to come off as well or i can't get to the bulb .
This is a 2015
Thank you Sir, I replaced both within 20 min.
you're welcome! feel free to leave a tip on my cash app $avb1992 if you fell like it was valuable
is it possible to replace the high beam bulbs this way?
Potentially thought can't confirm that. It's gotta get youpretty close atleast
Just wanted to let you know how helpful your video was! Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Happy to hear it
Thanks for the video. I have a headlight out so I'm also going to do the running light that I've been putting off forever. It's the light you have on in the very beginning. Sylvania's website says that's also an H11-- it looks different to me. Do you happen to know for sure if it's the same?
I do not know unfortunately. I'm pretty sure they are different bulbs though
@@THEDriverMod_ I got the headlight done today and that's the important one. Can confirm they're different-- now to figure out what that one is haha. Thanks for the reply!
Is it the same process for the blinkers too?
Havnt had to do the blinkers yet but probably can be done the same way
Thank you so much for this, saved so much money and it wasn’t that hard! I wonder if I could change the high beams like this because there’s no video of how to replace them without taking the bumper off. Or is that even possible?
I've never had to but I'm sure it's likely possible
How about take the air box out to the side? Can you reach there?
You could try
I just bought one being noisy lol.
Straightforward and easy to follow. Thanks!
Thank you for the postive feedback!
Hell yeah dude never did any work on a car in my life and was able to bust this out. Thanks for the vid
You're welcome! Anything you can do yourself is money saved!
I tried this once but I couldn't get the headlight to twist out. I think I was scared to put too much force on twisting it because I didn't want to break anything.. I had to give up and put everything back together really quickly because the rain was coming, but I'm getting ready to try again. How hard should I twist it?
Same problem for me. Down to the rain coming. I keep trying to twist it but it's not budging.
That's where a pair of angled, needle nose pliers could help you!
just a shout out, used this and it worked just as shown. took less than half hour. gotta say, cut up my hands pretty good lol.... but I can not believe the amount of UA-cam that say you have to remove the bumper,, so not true. thanks for the insight,, thumbs up from and ooooold guy lol.
Sorry about your hands but happy to hear you got it done and saved some money in the process
Now I’m conflicted…. I used the bumper cover removal in the past and was going to to do that again, but the cover tabs are breaking and will probably take your advice.
I’m also considering removing the active grill and will have to remove the cover for that job. I’ll try your method for now.
Plenty have done it this way successfully! You can do it!
@@THEDriverMod_ Thanks! And, yes, it worked well, took a lot less time, and preserved my bumper cover tabs.
Thanks for this post and for the encouragement!
We have the same fusion, year, color and everything and as I was acknowledging that I also noticed the crown service van! Worked for crown for 3 years as a CSS. Much love for my crown techs!
Very nice and thank you! Been a tech with them for just over a year now
Is it the same process on the passenger side headlight
Yes
Thank you. I'm about to try this out
How is it at night?
I know that some bulbs look much brighter when looking at the light from the outside of the car staring at it straight on, but don't cast the light outward very well at all when out on a darker road without overhead streetlights.
@@Thesaurcery4U2C I've had not issues with them
@@THEDriverMod_ Good; thanks for responding to me. I'm in the process of deciding what I am going to do.
I have spent an hour trying to get the bulb itself out. Any other videos or explanations on how to twist the bulb out as i cant see anything or what I'm doing?
There might be but other do not have them
Why is the wiring so short on the drivers side, on my passenger side I was able to fully pull out the connector but on the drivers side the wire has no give
Not sure, maybe it got routed incorrectly or is caught on something else inside the headlight
Sounds like just the bulbs
❤loved your video and did the job myself without having to unscrew anything I have small hands I guessed that helps. Thank for your help.
Appreciate that! Glad you were able to get it done yourself!
Thank you so much for your help. The video was so clear and understanding it was amazing. I replaced both of my daughter’s headlights. Thank you 👍🏾
Thanks for the comment and feedback! Happy to help.
Thank you ! Cant believe ford engineered it this way
Yeaaaaa, it is what it is unfortunately
If you liked that, you will LOVE replacing the battery. It takes 45 minutes.
Ask me how I know!
Does this work for the daytime running lamps?
Probably
Thank you for the video@!!! Saved me 200 bucks and I was able to do it all by myself 🎉
Awesome! That's what we like to hear!
Question i replaced both headlights, but the drivers beam appears to illuminate to the left now. And the original light that was out worked for 4 days and it's out again. Any thoughts?
Our 2016 went dim on the left side on low beam but still has a little light from it. How's that possible?
It means the bulb will burn out.
This is amazing! Would you make a video about what all the different bulbs are for he headlights on a Ford Fusion?
Without having the car, it's tough to do that
@@THEDriverMod_ I have several lights out and the manual doesn’t really show which is which. I assume the round ones are the main headlights, but there are two small ones on each side-one is the bright light, but the other small one-is it the “running” or “parking” lights?
@@heatherwoosley2461 I think you are correct
Would you say these are brighter then 18000 lumes I purchased a pair of auxito and they seem dim as all for my lows
I cannot accurately answer that question
I have a 2009 Fusion and Ford put a "bulb access" panel in the wheel well. I think Ford defines "access" different than I do! What possesses car designers to make it so difficult to change a light bulb? Is it their way of ensuring the car ends up in a service bay?
Something like that lol engineer's and designers definitely don't talk to techs that's for sure
Great video! Just a small recommendation when replacing them:
You should not touch a headlamp bulb because the oils from your fingers can transfer to the glass, creating "hot spots" that can cause the bulb to overheat, burn out prematurely, or even shatter, especially with halogen bulbs which operate at high temperatures; always use gloves or a clean cloth when handling them to avoid contamination.
Key points about not touching a headlamp bulb:
Oil residue:
Natural oils on your hands can leave a residue on the bulb, which can disrupt the even distribution of heat when the bulb is turned on.
Reduced lifespan:
This uneven heat distribution can significantly shorten the life of the bulb.
Potential damage:
In extreme cases, the localized heat from the oil residue can cause the glass to crack or shatter.
What to do instead:
Use gloves: Wear latex or nitrile gloves when handling headlamp bulbs.
Clean with alcohol: If you accidentally touch the bulb, clean it with a clean cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol before installing
Good tips!
@@THEDriverMod_ Thank you! :)
@@haddcustomsllc you're welcome
Thank you for posting this video! My passenger side light was out and using this method I replaced it pretty easily. Wanted to change out the driver's side too since they were both original. But I just couldn't get my hands in there far enough to get the bulb out. Oh well, I'll wait till it burns out before I'll try to take the bumper loose!
Same here. Passenger side was easy enough but the driver’s side was just about impossible to twist
yeah I could not get that driver side bulb out. Spent about an hour fiddling with it before I gave up
If I didn’t have skinny hands I probably would have not been able to do drivers side.
I liked and subscribed. This is the most helpful video I’ve ever come across in my life.
I appreciate the support, positive feedback and kind words!
Would this method work on a 2012 Ford fusion?
No on the 06-12s you can access the headlights through the wheel well. You need longer arms but you can reach it.
No
Yeah man thanks for sharing! Had no idea how to take the hood bump stop out! 1st video I watched SOLD!!!!!!
Awesome!!!
