- The affordable Gibson with the long name! The official name of the new model is the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute Doublecut. Part of the Modern Collection, the new model expands on the Doublecut previously released by doubling the pickups, adding the neck pickup and a three-way toggle switch for added versatility. Simplifying the features, using a satin finish allows this P-90 equipped rock machine to come in just under the $1000 price point! A USA built Gibson for under $1000 begs the question; is it any good. Resident guitar ace Cooper Greenberg puts it through its paces to find out just how good a value this guitar is.

I can't get enough of your videos, really informative. I played some of these earlier this year and I was really surprised, they played great.
The single pick up models are really great at, the volume and tone knob really work, unlike a previous budget Gibson I bought. It makes you use both the volume and tone knobs, really a valuable habit to get into if you want to get the most out of your guitars. I really love these guitars.
Nice review on this guitar thank you! I particularly appreciate you playing it with the clean tones. I noticed several places are promoting these at a special $599 price right now which is amazing.
what do you mean 'can it be good?' Maybe I'm just poor or whatever but it's a thousand bucks! It better be good. I've been playing a Fender Strat for 7 years and it's the only guitar I ever owned ... I got it used for 200 bucks :-/
are my standards too low?
If u been playing for over 7 years and the only guitar u have is worth 200 bucks bro treat yoself.
I'm a Fender guy myself, but I bought this guitar, and man it is worth every penny, much to my surprise.
@@SRV2013 good to know I'm still eyeing one of these off.
@@dominicmcmahon4798 as of right now, this day, 2/17/2020 GC has a 40% off sale on these. I hope you read this in time and snag one.
I was about to buy the Fender Leads, but I saw this guitar, and I always wanted that sort of Gibson. I bought it, and this guitar is great.
I just bought this guitar brand new at Guitar Center for $599 and I love it.
Me too, bought the red one, they said they were just marked down. Bought it today!
@@blakeburdette7171 I got the red one too, they look so much nicer in person than they do in videos and pictures. I first saw them at Chicago Music Exchange and was surprised by how nice they looked and felt. They are pretty quiet for P90s and I thought if I could find it in the 6-700 range used I would want it. To get it new for 599 is insane. Told my dad about it and he bought the blue one.
Just bought the last black one GC had for $499 today. I’ve bought a couple worse, $750 guitars. Very happy with it!
@@Themology WOW, that is a steal! $499?! That had to be cost!
I got the red 2 pick up version for 15% off of $59 so it was like $460+ tax ! I'm happy at this price but at $999 no way !
I love the DC Jr.!!! I picked it up used for a good price thinking I might sell it but that's not happening. This is a killer guitar!!!
I bought one of the epiphone inspired by lp jr for 515 bucks here in Canada. Couple days later the Gibson dc lp junior came up for sale for $620 cad! For an extra 90 bucks this thing slays
Fucking rights it does!!!
Very nice..love P90s
I just picked one up. Fingers crossed these babies appreciate in value over the years since they seem kinda oddball and Gibson doesn't just bring back an original double cut series.
Even better when they go on sale! Bought the red model with single P90 for about $600.00 🤙🏼
For Pete’s sake... Alamo phone number cuts off view of pickup switch! Move your logo to top left, or adjust the camera action a touch, and the utility of the vid would be vastly improved.
Was thinking exactly the same!
That isn't a junior guitar! The junior one only has one pick up
oh so it's like the title of the video says, Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute Doublecut
G45 please sir.
Juniors have 1 p-90
Specials have 2
You don't know the difference?
I wouldnt buy a cheap gibby unless I tried it. I prefer looks and I'd buy an epiphone for a sub 1000 guitar. Anyway, I think I'll save for a custom shop les paul, those guitars are phenomenal !
It’s not a junior
It's a weird beast, its like either a junior with a extra P-90, or a special that's missing a set of controls.
It's a double cut special with 2 P90's and 2 knobs for volume and tone ! Great guitar !
Well Geesh almighty, I would hope its a good guitar for $1,000!!! Otherwise we would have to say that Gibson is putting out a piece of trash and charging 5x what the no name brands charge for it! So I hope for Gibson's sake its a good guitar! Maybe its just me, but I always thought that if you are willing to drop 1 grand on a guitar, quality and sounding good shouldn't even be a part of the conversation!
This is special tribute, not junior tribute
Amen brother.
It better be good for that price point... Or you can just do the smart thing and buy an American performer strat heck even save up a little more and buy a professional strat but the mere fact that a 999dollar Gibson is considered cheap is Gibson's entire problem still in this new era. Love you guys but the title is a little bit insensitive in a way $1,000 to a lot of people is not cheap by any means.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. I'm in England and I bought the single pick up version for around £750 and to me that's a chunk of money and not what I would describe as cheap. It does make me annoyed when people use the word 'only' before saying the price. I was watching an episode of Top Gear a week ago (it's a car show) and the presenter was rattling on about this new 200mph supercar and then said "it's ONLY £75,000"...... I can only assume then that I'm very poor because a thousand bucks.... or a thousand pounds to me is a great deal of money.
Especially since Gibson just continually raised their prices for literally no reason but marketing in the 80s until they found the sweet spot. It was a Wall Street Journal cover story. Literally, there was no difference in guitar build or hardware when they increased their prices from around $800 to about $2500. And they just kept raising prices after that. I'm guessing it was before Slash would've boosted their sales again, anyway, but at the time they were competing with pointy metal guitars and just not selling well, so they raised their price to appeal to older guys with stable income-hobbyists-who wanted to treat themselves. The strategy obviously paid off in spades since it was a WSJ cover story.
They simply called the guitar shops and told them to raise the price, btw. Same guitars on the shelf, so definitely no kind of upgrade in build quality or hardware. It was done by calling stores every 6 months and increasing the price over the phone of what was already in stock on the shelves in the stores.
yeah these are good, for $400 used.
The performance reveils the problem with this guitar- It is really hard to play it in tune.
Not true!!! This thing rings on open chords and intonation is good!!!
Horrible. Out of tune after a couple of seconds. Too expensive for what it is!
Las nuevas no son lo mismo. Tengo una del año 2006 y es increíblemente cómoda, con un sonido extraordinario. No la cambiaría por ninguna. Y he tenido todo tipo de guitarras en décadas.
Post that everywhere. Keep the price down so I can snap up more!!! The Jr is awesome!!! Instantly became part of my rotation with my G&L Legacy Strat, Yamaha sa1200s, AVRI 52 Tele which has been modded to a '58, and my Rocketfire Telecaster with a humbucker in the neck. If you have some money look into "Rocketfire" Nick Sorenson makes some of the best guitars I've come across!!!
Not a good guitar at all. Sub par Gibson’s are made cheap and once you hold it you will see. I understand price point but a watered down one is just that with zero resale. A PRS se is a way better made guitar and $300 cheaper
I sold my SE after I snagged one of these because it sounded better, felt better and inspired me to play better and this after I installed better pickups and had a pro set it up. SE's are fantastic guitars but there's still no real comparison
I got both for direct reasons but they are different enough to justify having one of each.
F Sanyshyn PRS? No way
No es una buena guitarra, es excelente. Al menos yo tengo una Special del 2006 y después de haber tenido todo tipo de guitarras durante décadas, ésta es mi preferida y no la cambio por ninguna. Se irá conmigo a la tumba.
