Gibson Les Paul Tribute Junior DC: They Shouldn't Have Discontinued These

  • This line of guitars was discontinued more than a year ago, but I think Gibson should've kept making them. Here's my take on why I think mine is great, but also what you should be aware of with these kind of guitars.
    If you can get one of these used, go for it, because they're great! Gibson should bring this Tribute line back someday.
    Nothing in this video was sponsored, all the gear was bought by myself and everything said is my honest opinion. If you want to check some of the gear I used, here's where I got it:
    Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute Double Cut
    They are discontinued, so they're not available anymore, but check if you can find one used -

      Indeed they are. My wife has the one from the video now, and she's using it more and more each week. I switched to the current single cut Junior with a dogear.

    I just picked one up this week and its killer! Needs a little TLC... Rough fret ends, fretboard is close to unfinished, new bridge wouldn't hurt, nut is cut too shallow and it could use a coat of gloss nitro. Even without changing these things it's still killer! Had no idea they were discontinued but I don't plan on letting it go anytime soon or ever.
    The maple neck is a perfect profile for me and there's a bit of flame to it, it's just a great guitar and got it for cheap. It's routed for 2 pickups so if you wanted to you could add a neck pickup but I have no desire to do that, it is a rock and roll machine for sure! 1 pickup, two knobs and the truth, all ya need. 🤘😁🤘

    I have the same guitar and I absolutely love it. I picked mine up brand new for epiphone money too. Will never understand why they stopped making them/why more people didn't buy them.

      Thanks! I just managed to get a second one in brown. It breaks my 'one guitar rule', but the one from my video is in open tuning, so another one for standard is great. Very underrated guitars indeed!

    I had a 2011 LP Standard double cut with P-90's. A limited run gold top. It sounded great, but I just never gelled with the neck which was a slim taper 60's profile. So I traded it in for a custom shop R-8 and I love that guitar! I do have a Epiphone double cut junior with a P-90 that was made in Japan. It get's the job done for sure but this DC Tribute is a guitar to look for!!! Enjoyed your playing!!

    I have the special dc version and that guitar has been my number one since I've got it. It's a shame that gibson had decided to discontinue it but I feel super lucky to have got my hands on one!

    To be honest guys, I bought one with the front mount input, didn't like it so i bought a different Pickguard that had two holes and just routed a traditional hole on the side with my drill. VOILA. Then I put GRAPHTEC Resomax in and it was FUCKING AMAZING, Also Soldered some PIO caps too. So stupid me, I relapsed got strung out and sold it to buy more dope. I forgot to take the resomax off so the guy essentially got a 1k guitar with wicked upgrades.
    So then I got clean. I bought a new Gibson Les Paul Junior 2019 thinking it would be way better, started playing and the thing DOES NOT STAY in tune. NOW I AM GOING HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER RESOMAX to fix the problem. I almost feel like like calling the guy back and say hey I will trade you my genuine 2019 Junior beauty gloss finish tobacco. That tribute was so damn good with the maple neck it made such a bigger roaring sound where this one has no sustain.. I also really dug the double cut. If they just made one with a light white gloss finish and satin maple neck it would be the best Junior ever.
    Any who I will get back to you guys once I get the new resomax bridge. P.S what bridge do you have there? it's not stock.

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar
      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  Рік тому

      I have the stock bridge on it, but I am thinking about swapping it because it doesn't stay in tune lately.

    Love my DC. It's the 2019 with the jack on the top. It feels wonderful, like you said, and I keep it with an open tuning as well, but in G, not D♭
    My top mounted electronics is great for modding. Easily swap out a pickguard and drop another in another with a custom pickup/wiring for a different sound. Solder the ground and it's done.

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar
      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  2 роки тому +1

      I have to say I haven't swapped anything yet, haven't felt the need to, which rarely happens. I actually managed to get a second one in worn brown from the same dealer recently, because I missed one for standard tuning. You can see it in my recent Vox video. These guitars are highly underrated!

      @@StevenAnthonyGuitar I did it because it is fun, and the design made it super simple. Plus, I was interested in how much better a Kinman p90 could sound without all the 60 cycle hum. Spoiler alert: it sounds amazing.
      Totally agree about them being underrated. They are a joy to play.

      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  2 роки тому +1

      @@deBebbler I totally get you! It's like with strats, easy to swap if everyting is scratch plate mounted, so why not. I was thinking of swapping the pickup in my new one, but that Gibson P90 sounds so great in itself, I can't get myself to do so!

    I have one of these that I bought at a blowout price too, it has beautiful grain and it’s very lightweight, plays really well…only negative I can say about it, is that the fret ends are a bit pokey. I had the Special also, but it was a little muddy sounding tbh, there’s something to be said for one pickup Juniors…better clarity compared to Specials from my experience. The soapbars on these are very hot, it’s quite a bit hotter than the dogear P90 on my actual Junior. Good stuff ✌️

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar
      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  Рік тому +1

      On this black one the fret ends where also sticking out, which I had to get fixed. That's the risk with these blowout sales: they might've been in storage too long with the fretboard drying out. A later got a second one in brown which was perfect though.

    I have a Gibson Les Paul Tribute. It's a great guitar! I'm guessing these guitars were eating into profit margins and maybe that's why they stopped making them. It plays and sounds like a guitar worth twice the price. They just don't have the fancy finish or binding, but they were definitely comparable in quality to the more expensive models.

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar
      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  Рік тому

      They are still making the tributes though. And they are indeed basically the same, though I think there are better pickups in the range than the ones in the Tributes, but some of us (like me) swap pickups anyways. Great guitars for a very good price if you don't care about binding and like satin nitro.

    Hi. I have a DC junior special faded cherry. For the money a superb guitar. I also play a bit of slide. Is the action on yours higher to accommodate slide playing? Thanks. 😊👍🎸

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar
      @StevenAnthonyGuitar  11 місяців тому

      Not really, as I don't like very low action on my guitars anyways, I don't feel the need to have that adjusted on my slide guitars. But at the moment I've switched back to a telecaster for slide, as Gibson with wraparounds don't like to be tuned in open D flat, which is also pretty noticeable in this video.

    Also those discontinued 2019 Junior Tributes where so cheap and the maple neck just sounded way different than any of my other les pauls. Why Gibson doesn't put maple necks on more guitars I will never know. The sound is so much more snappy/Treble, Guess they look down on the working class.

    • @StevenAnthonyGuitar

      Bring it to a luthier. Could be the nut or the bridge. The downside of these guitars is that they seem very delicate in terms of tuning.
