I'm in the same boat as you in terms of never launching a rocket despite being hundreds of hours deep and I'm just about to be starting a SE play through planning on recording it too. You don't really see a lot of people recording their gameplay as newer players and i honestly find that gameplay much more entertaining. So this is exactly what I was looking for :D
i thought i was alone! i've never really aimed towards the rockets as my goal but just making my factory as big as possible and i was wondering for so long if thats the wrong way to go but seeing this makes me feel better about it
@obsolete9734 there is no wrong way to play factorio except NOT growing the factory. However you wanna play is the right way to play. Wanna play default factorio? Go for it. No biters? Go for it. Resources everywhere? Yerp. Ultra mega super crazyDeath world with rampant? Also correct. It's a sandbox game very much like minecraft.
Very interesting thank you for all the hard work. Factorio is just amazing I know this is a mod but even the base game is absolutely brilliant the people who made the game are truly next level.
Regarding rocket silo consuming all the resources, your mistake was putting speed modules into it. Four speed 2 modules is essentially 120% more crafting speed, so you essentially put two silos instead of one not following your own advice. :P Productivity modules are much better for it, they essentially reduce the required resources per rocket, and also slow down the production, which normally isn't a good thing, but when you can't supply much, it would actually help. 3 Productivity 3 modules would essentially make the silo consume 30% less resources per rocket, and while they are pretty expensive, you can probably spare resources to make four of them. That said, I don't know, maybe Krastorio removes productivity or something.
I did end up doing that towards the end of the run i just didn’t show it in the video because it was getting quite long. It definitely took me wayyyy to long to realise what id done tho hahaha. And its been a while so im not sure if im remembering correctly but i seem to recall that you cant put prod mods in the rocket silo because they only work on machines producing intermediate products (not sure if thats a krastorio thing or a vanilla one). Anyway, thanks for watching :)
@@Ironcopter It is vanilla thing, but rocket parts which is technically what rocket silo is producing are considered intermediate products, so it's working. It also works for fuel items.
Vanilla. With end goal being some sort of a megabase, 500-1000SPM, a modest one. :P Watching this I got an impression that you got somewhat dependent on all the mods you are using, and that's fine if that's how you like to play, but I wonder if going back to vanilla would be kind of a challenge. Of course this is just a suggestion.
I don't know why, but I very much enjoy going back and re watching playthrough videos multiple times. So congrats to you for making an entertaining ass video. EDIT: Left hand drive is inferior! Right hand drive is right
Also, how I fixed the Depot issue is to have a waiting section before the filling section. That way the second train waits for the first to park, then will check for an infilled station and then park in an empty spot.
@@Ironcopter nah man, just do whatever you are really interested in when your playing factorio, there are many things and challenges in this game, however the editing and being able to make a compact video of many hours of gameplay made it very good to follow from the beginning to the end without doing hours and hours of short gameplay parts, which fall of most of the time. That video was great!
@@Ironcopter I think something like K2SE would build upon what you have already done but at the same time i would love to see how you approach a vannilla run

12:55 -> that used to be my favorite set up to load/unload fluid wagon. Later, I found out that you only need one pump that is connected directly to the tank to load/unload a whole wagon in ~2s....

The reason behind the slow run is the abusing of train for advanced ressource, normally I try to only use train for MASSIVE quantity of item because if I dont it's way to time consuming
12:01 my man, you can just set train limit on stop to 1 and it wont target more than 1 train at a time to this train stop. Its very easy to make a proper train depo that way. Just name all the stop as "Depo" and set train limit to 1. Then you add Depo to all trains schedules and you have perfectly working depo.
Good video. 4 Prod 3 in just your rocket silo would have cut your cost on space data more than 1/3 though. Prod>speed in basically every building other than mining drills, the speed is just to make to prod modules more efficient. For rockets the return on investment is about 20 sec, for steel its more like 14 hr.
Yeah, I did end up changing the rocket silo to prod mods later down the line, i just didn’t specifically mention it. But the majority of the time i ended up putting prod mods in setups just to make them more efficient in terms of the required input. The trains were usually the bottleneck and prod mods allowed the system to be constantly running and not shut off in between each train delivery! Thanks fir watching :)

Seeing you use 6 pumps to transfer fluids onto and out of wagons was painful. 1 pump that is right next to a storage tank will have insane speed. Normal pumps (krastorio adds steel version that are stronger btw) have a pumping speed of 12000 fluid per second. This means in 2 seconds you have 24000 fluid pumped. Aaaand a wagon can carry 25000 fluid. The problem is the pipes between storage and pump, as a normal pipe will bottleneck you. I remember that basic math showed that every single pipe between storage and pump doubled the time it would take to move it. Adding more pumps doesn't help either since a single pump will fill an entire pipe so rest are not very useful, unless you have each an independent pipe. Again, krastorio adds steel version of pumps and pipes so its less of issue than vanilla but its still bad compared to ultra fast speed it could be.

I can make a single video on beating any game in 45 minutes also, depending on how many splicing and editing I would like to do. This video needed to say heavily edited for time. Disappointed. Thumbs down.
Apologies, the title is somewhat misleading. At the end of the day I think its a compromise that has to be made as it makes people more likely to click on the video. Appreciate the feedback though 🙂
