Yes, I was thinking about that as well and I would say that Factorio is not exactly the most intuitive and user friendly experience. Kovarex showed for everyone "how the game is intended to be played" on the big screen and there was a collective "oh" through the audience as no one played it like that
@@Nilaus Not even the first times those veterans played the game? Factorio practically set the automation genre so most of the veterans should also have started that way. I suppose Kovarex extended that "feeling" into the xpac version of it.
I would like to see a spoiler light "getting started with space age" style video, something that only covers the changes on nauvis and what prep to do before starting to do space stuff. Would be good as a primer for your lets play series and something I'd be interested in as I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers for the other planets.
On the elevated trains, I'm pretty sure the main advantage of these is left turns across traffic, which lowers the amount of trains needing to brake by a massive amount. But also, it allows for double headed trains to have as high throughput as trains with a U-turn, by having the entry track and the exit track on 2 different levels, you never have the issue of a train leaving causing an entering train to stop. This lets you build absolutely huge throughput stations with way way less space than it used to take.
I really don't see the point, but maybe with the new scale? Current megabase ticking along just fine with no rail crossings at all. Different styles for different folks, I guess. I'm really curious if per-train throughput will be increased the way belts and bots will be, or if trains will be obsoleted by stacked belts.
@@SkorjOlafsen There's a reason nilauses own megabase uses only one side of the rail line. Because then you're gonna need 4 lanes of rails which is just ugly to even look at and a crazy waste of resources for tracks that will never get used because the train routing algorithm doesn't take congestion and traffic into account when routong(it just takes the shortest path). They want to optimize the train designs for trains that are smaller than 1-4. The changes this brings to 1-1 and 1-1/2/3-1 trains is going to be pretty crazy
@@subashchandra9557 Small trains seem inappropriate to the fat end of the resource funnel. To each his own, I guess. But I'm not sure long trains are any more resource dense on the rails, even in my base where the blocks are smaller than the long trains so they pack better. 1-2 trains seem to pack a lot tighter.
I also love the idea of using elevated rails as a "train highway" of sorts, for quickly getting from one side of the base to the other. Keep them isolated with minimal entrances and exits. Also yall are seeming to forget trains go "chuga chuga chuga" and look really cool.

A day 1 tutorial on building space platforms would be super helpful! For example - can we get stranded mid-trip to another planet? What happens then? How important is moving quickly for our personal exploration platform? Is it viable to just build a massive platform with lots of cargo storage but super slow?
Stranded? Sorta, but no not really, from what we have seen in the FFF, space fuel is made from iron and water, both of which can be scavenged from the asteroids floating by. So as long as you have the asteroid collectors, you cant really get stranded permanently, thou u might run out of fuel temporarily. If you lose your asteroid collectors somehow thou, not sure what choices you will have to try to save it, but at worst, if you arent careful, you could end up like the ship at 6:30 and probably slowly lose it all

As someone who just started Factorio (around 30hrs) and just barely beginning to learn the current mechanics, this is such terrible timing to get into the game lmao. But this is insanely exciting and looks so good.
Even if you play for a full month before the 2.0 release it wont be a "waste" because in order to feel the dlc and new changes you'de rather get familiar and build some muscle memories which takes hundreds of hours. And dont forget that at the end in will still be 99% the same game.
Same for me. I am actually a bit anxious about the Factorio 2.0 Update, because a lot of tipps won't work anymore, and there is still so much to learn. Let's see how we get through these stormy times. The update looks great for sure, but I'm also worried that it might cater so much to experts, that it might be very complicated for beginners. I honestly would enjoy watching you build a Nauvis base from scratch. All the consolidated ideas formulated over the years in one go would be a masterclass. Come to think of it; maybe a content creator should also make masterclasses :)
So Excited. Been in this game since 2018. Have over 2500 hours and every achievement. Just got a new video card and motherboard to upgrade so I can see the not so high graphic game in 4k lol. Honestly this is the best game ive played in 20 years. Story is a little to be desired but not a killer for me.
@@Naronitsu Sure, it was a LAN but it was also an event for creators to try the game early and make videos about it. Why would Nilaus want to skip that?
Great vid, super excited! Question though, don't you only start getting quality on items when you add quality modules? So if you don't go into quality, will your inventory still fill up with random stuff?
I love your content Nilaus and I'm looking forward to all your upcoming videos on the expansion. Thanks for being awesome and keep doing what you're doing!
Master Class? Not yet: I need to become the Master first! (Nilaus, C., 2024) To be honest, this video has been more motivating for me to play Space Age than any three or four FFFs put together. I'm looking forward to it very much.
I'm going to guess that gleeva might not be that difficult for a lot of people. I imagine that the playstyle it requires is just completely different than how nelaus intuitively plays
I added a train system via blueprints that set signals for available supply or demand and the trains do the work, it's like ltn but vanilla, called IVTN. Been out for years, even before train limits
I have a save made just before my ribbon-world launched its 1000th rocket. So satisfying just to start it up once in a while and quit without saving after a short time :))

Okay hearing that its worth it to get everything but space science on Nauvis actually got me really excited to make a great pre-space science base before SA drops. I've been sitting here for a year dying to play SA but not wanting to play 1.0 because, well, its not SA. But if SA Nauvis is very similar and nothing's really changed, then tomorrow Imma start my pre-2.0 world.
The devs said that it will be possible to load up 1.1 games in space age but recommended against it. There is different tech tree and different world gen. Also having comparatively overpowered base, and possibly items from tech you shouldn't have, at the start of the space age content may make your experience not as intended. Maybe your experience will be better if you can hold out till release :)
@@acoolnameemm There's also stuff that you could make before but can't anymore because the recipe changed. For example, many of the Mk2 equipment was moved off-Nauvis. But they almost certainly also use intermediates from those off-Nauvis planets. If personal batteries mk2 come from Fulgora, you can bet they also use supercapacitors or another Fulgora intermediate in their recipe. So even if you made them in your 1.1 base, once you apply SA to it, you won't be able to make them. The ones you have will still work, but you can't make new ones.
Who would have guessed Nilaus has his own style? :D My idea: Every sub you get, add time/event where another content creator can come into your game and "help" you.... Hell for you. Lots of laughs for us I'm sure. Your chance to get nuked by subs Twitch run was very fun. Unfortunately humans generally thrive on other peoples suffering. That's why even my grandmama laughs about the old days where you could go to a carnival and throw a sandbag at a target and dunk your teacher into the slime/water.
Thanks for the video, I can't wait to play myself! If I wanted to do a prep-savegame just like the one you hinted at, what are the things I should NOT do/unlock? Are you allowed to go into details of that (NDA)?
Why dont you limit yourself to healthy portions of playtime and mix it with going out, meeting people and doing stuff thats good for you? Gaming doesn't have to be a selfdestructive grind that ruins your life..

i dont care about marginal gains, all my factories will be to 100% on epic quality the soonest im able to influence the quality which a thing will have and im not going to move on until this goal is done. if thats a small thing that takes time that just means i need an even bigger base.
Damn, I love this game so bad. I want to master vanilla Factorio and be more efficient and professional like you, before going to the DLC. Wish me luck
you said you dont know why they buffed spawners but they literally explained in the fff that it felt weird to them that they dont evolve like the bugs and the worms so now they do too. maybe the numbers need some tweaking if they turn out to be too tanky but generally speaking that they evolve and become stronger the more you progress is a good thing.
I am really exited for the DLC , BUT ill not be watching videos until i have played the game for myself for a little while i want to experience it for myself first .... its kind of the charm for me , pretty sure ill be watching all of the videos at some point in time but , for me i want to experience it for myself first
Can you tell us how current progression/science has changed on nauvis, as far as how much we might be able to prepare or utilize old blueprints up to rocket launch?
It would be nice if item quality items all took up the same one individual slot in your inventory, then you could swap the one you want in and out and set is as the one you want. I think there'd have to be some type of restriction to do it, since obviously that would be a way of doubling your inventory size

"Is an amazing expierence because you're sort of there and you have to figure out, ok, what do I do" - Me everytime I play on Navus
How you reacted to that group situation, is how I felt about groups my whole life.. autistic
I kind of assumed that we all were 😂
That resonated... _extremely_. I probably would have done the same. Super nice of the devs to offer such accomodations!!!
I for one would totaly care about watching the ''pre-space'' part of that youtube serie :(
Thanks for the overview! Looking forward to playing it!
I 100% agree with you about the team rushing problem. It just destroys the fun
it was a LAN party, if you want to play alone stay at home and get someone else who would enjoy it more...
@@Naronitsu well, I would choose option 3: play solo at the lan party, just like what nilaus did
@@Naronitsu Sure, it was a LAN but it was also an event for creators to try the game early and make videos about it. Why would Nilaus want to skip that?
I’m so stoked for this dlc! I haven’t been so excited for a game to come out since halo infinite….
The existence of this video makes me hope we finally get this dlc soon.
(Nilaus, C., 2024)
To be honest, this video has been more motivating for me to play Space Age than any three or four FFFs put together.
I have only just gotten in to Factorio and now they're sending us into space? I'm still waiting to learn what we're gonna do about arranging a rescue!
yeah, I was beyond excited when I saw the fluid updates/rework
Preparing a save JUST at the moment you have a rocket ready to launch makes the most sense.
I have a save made just before my ribbon-world launched its 1000th rocket. So satisfying just to start it up once in a while and quit without saving after a short time :))
idea, fuel train that can drive backwards along tracks to refuel trains that run out...
Seeing @doshdoshington running around in the background of these demos was distracting as hell, lol. Really excited to get my hands into this
I watched your videos for years but this is the first time that i see your face 🙌
So all my experience designing bases for warptorio will be useful for space platforms. That’s great news.
The hype is real. Can't wait for the DLC.
I am so looking forward to this ... I will be taking a two week vacation only to grind this game
All those alerts are triggering my anxiety hard
Can't wait for this to release.
@Nilaus Have you considered doing a freight forwarding playthrough in the interim?
Would love to see your style of play with that mod package.
Factorio, Satisfactory and Shapez mentioned in one video! Factory players are eating good this autum!
Instead of "Masterclasses", you could run "Apprenticeclasses" or "Journeymanclasses".
Found the EQ2 player
@@Dominik-ji9qi I had to look up what that meant; I never played Everquest. :P
@nnelg8139 interesting.. there were apprentice, journeyman and master versions of spells so that sort of made me think you were referencing it
@@Dominik-ji9qi Those terms weren't invented by Everquest; they harken back to the ranks in IRL medieval guilds and have been used in many medieval-inspired fantasy works.
@@Dominik-ji9qi this is just normal terminology for skilled trades
I didn't watch the video except for your conclusion as I don't want any spoilers but I can't wait :D Not 8000 hours but about 1500 as it's not my job :P but I haven't been as excited for a game expansion since like what feels like forever. This is going to be as good as my very high expectations from Wube without any doubt. (Ok, I do read all devlogs except for the spoily ones, but even without that I have 100% trust in this great developer).
I feel you. I cannot wrap by head around the fact that people play this game online with dozens of others at the same time. Factorio for me is much more enjoyable as a single player experience or with a few friends at most. I can't imagine what it must be like playing on a server with a dozen randoms and seeing everyone rushing to do things... ugh
Really October 21st can't come soon enough. This is seriously the only entertaining thing on my mind at the moment. It's like waiting for Tears of the Kingdom all over again.
12:14 me seeing AntiElitz. no wonder why you complained about people wanting to just speed run the game XD
That was my first thought. He probably already has a speedrun record set and waiting for launch
Greetings from France :)
24:51 I spoted him !:O
nice cant wait for october :D!!! on a side note it was never talked bout in the FFF or in the video if its possible to disclose did they modify the size of nauvis or they left it as it is since pretty much only 1 person that ive seen has been to the edge ( doshdoshington ) and it took 3 hours by train to get there after he built a self extending base haha ... cheers!!!!
I saw that dosh vid, incredible drone program with automated blueprints...i think he used a mod?
@@ryanorionwotanson4568 i dont recall any mods but a buttload of programming went in the blueprint design if you check out his main base its got tons of curcuits calculating and making the ( off - on ) decisions
@@ryanorionwotanson4568 The only mod I believe he had installed that had an effect on the run was one that allowed circuits to deploy blueprints, so he could automate the expansion of the tube.
The sound alerts throughout the video threw me. Furiously alt+tabbing for the Factorio window that I after 3 seconds realized I didn't have open 😋
@@pszznm Yeah it might be, I already thought about avoiding cliff explosives, landfill, and uranium processing...
I did forget about the world gen tho
My idea: Every sub you get, add time/event where another content creator can come into your game and "help" you....
Every 1000th sub Trupen comes to help for a few hours
@@TBC256 amazing lol
Thanks for the video, I can't wait to play myself! If I wanted to do a prep-savegame just like the one you hinted at, what are the things I should NOT do/unlock? Are you allowed to go into details of that (NDA)?
I am so hype for this update.
Woah. Ive sent a fish to space then stoped playing im overwhelemed playing it again lol
1 week earlier? I am yealous!!!
I am gonna play this for an UNHEALTHY length of time on release.
Why dont you limit yourself to healthy portions of playtime and mix it with going out, meeting people and doing stuff thats good for you?
Gaming doesn't have to be a selfdestructive grind that ruins your life..
@@earlgrey2130 Hyperbole for comedic effect. Don't worry, I won't be tweaking out on a 72-hour session. Nothing wrong with spending a lot of time doing something you love, though. I'll imagine myself as Da Vinci in his workshop rather than Howard Hughes in his hotel room.
i dont care about marginal gains, all my factories will be to 100% on epic quality the soonest im able to influence the quality which a thing will have and im not going to move on until this goal is done. if thats a small thing that takes time that just means i need an even bigger base.
I haven't played this game in forever and the moment I heard the warning sound I was triggered and thought I was attacked
That feeling when Nilaus only has less than 2x your Factorio playtime...
It would be nice if item quality items all took up the same one individual slot in your inventory, then you could swap the one you want in and out and set is as the one you want. I think there'd have to be some type of restriction to do it, since obviously that would be a way of doubling your inventory size
If nilaus is hyper, im hyped
The thing I’m going to use train interrupts for are refuelling stations and that’s about it
