“Ah, it seems that you have met your end. Ah, what a pity. You know I, I don’t feel too bad about it though, after all if it weren’t me, it would’ve just been one of the others I guess… I’m honestly just glad to be out of those air ducts. You know it’s… it’s not easy for a hippopotamus to fit up there… and… not easy to get down either. I’m not as young as I used to be as you can see, I used to be able to do all sorts of things, you’re young, you’re vibrant, you have that sort of pep in your step. Ah, it reminds me of a conversation I was having with one of my good friends Orville. We were having a nice picnic one day. I believe it was summer? Oh, perhaps it was… was it the fall? Yes, yes, it was the fall because the leaves had turned already. But I said to Orville, I- I says, “Orville, I have a story to tell you.” And Orville looked at me, you know, kind of odd and- and said, “Well what’s it about?” I- I said to him, “Not every story has to be about something Orville. Sometimes a person just wants to talk, why does it have to be a story?” I said to him. He just looked at me and he said, “Well y-y-you said you had a story.” You know, he was quite right, I did in fact. I told him I had a story. I suppose if a person just wants to talk, it’s best to not announce that you’re tellin’ a story. Tellin’ a story does come with its own pressures and expectations I- I suppose. After all, if you’re just talking to a friend then, there’s no more expectations then if you were talking into the wind. Words… by themselves are not expected to carry… aren’t expected to stick. But if, you know if you announce that you’re tellin’ a story well then… there better be a point to it all. No one wants to sit and listen to someone ramble on and on and”
As I recall - and I'm not an expert - there was a thing in the books about animatronics coming to life just as well through love as they do through agony. Like, if the Mimic had stayed with the kid, it could have been a kind, whimsical person, but all the grief from the inventor turned it monstrous. Or how the one Charlie bot in the novels stayed normal and chill because she didn't have her dad's rage poured into her like her evil doppelganger. If the Mediocre Melodies were Henry's first attempt at a Pizza franchise, like MatPat suggested, maybe they did have some level of sentience that came free of any trauma or hauntings. Heck, maybe after Freddy's got off the ground, they became self aware and wandered away to live life elsewhere. It could be that Orville and Hippo really *did* go on all those adventures we heard about in UCM.
I kind of wanted the Mediocre Melodies to be the animatronics in the Pizzaplex. It would allow the classics to rest, while letting them be the sole animatronics affected by computer error rather than possession. The Fazbear brand could have been trying to distance themselves from the bad luck Freddy always seemed to bring, and so brought out the alternatives to be a new face to the brand. Even if you kept the new animatronics of Roxy and Monty, I would think that Happy Frog and Mr. Hippo would slot much closer with the aesthetic they're going for. I say Mr. Hippo rather than Ned Bear to replace Freddy due to being both a fan favorite, and it would be entertaining to implement the long stories being told by your ally as you're desperately trying to escape his friends. Replace Glamrock Bonnie with Orville, and you even have the friendship angle of the originals.
I think in regards to Mr Hippo at least, it's a mix of a funny character trait and the idea that his stories give a cozy sort of feeling. You said yourself he has a grandpa sort of vibe, which could be a huge draw to a lot of people. For people that maybe lost a grandparent or didn't have the best relationship with theirs, Mr Hippo becomes an unexpected source of comfort that places him above the others in terms of fandom love
this explains my feelings to mr hippo so much. i adore him! my grandparents were always kinda crap, so i guess mr hippo helps fulfill my destiny of having traditional grandparents LOL
I feel like one reason Pigpatch didn’t have a super cryptic line in UCN like Happy Frog, Orville, and Nedbear is because him playing a banjo solo at the end would be a massive tension breaker, since he does that with his other lines.
I know Showbiz had a Hippo and an Elephant. I think Rainforest Cafe may be the inspiration for Happy Frog? The mediocre melodies remind me of a prototype of the Rockafire Explosion that used to be mounted to a loft in Frontier City's gift shop. (Frontier City is a smaller six flags down the road from where I live) I think it was the retired Jamboree Bears? There was also a ride called "Quick Draw" that had old animatronics and the new Foxy Logride level looks neigh identical. Brings back memories. Also there is another new animatronic in screenshots for HW2. I think it might be either a reimagining of Neddbear or a Righty to Lefty. It kinda straddles the line between mediocre melodies and the rockstars.
I’m so happy to see them get mentioned not because I like all of them but because Happy frog was my weirdest animatronic obsession because I just liked frogs and her voice is cute.
I hope we see more of the Melodies besides just Mr. Hippo in the future. I love him but I wanna see Nedbear fulfill his liability rating by being a complete klutz and I wanna see Orville’s magic show lol. I just hope that Steel Wool doesn’t use the Melodies as suits for the Mimic 😅

Hey, so, I just recalled Fredbear's deathcoin line in UCN... And it is interesting in context of speaking through the Mediocre Melodies. "There was more Fantasy and Fun where I came from."
9:30 The Monkees also has a gag like that in the episode "Monstrous Monkee Mash" where Micky frantically mentions him being the last Monkee, even listing the other members in order of which they would eventually die. Unrelated, but when am i ever gonna be able to bring up this bit of dark trivia.
I think one theory related to the Mediocre Melodies that I liked is the them being part of Chica's Party World, that they were before the friends of Chica, but then sadly forgotten by everyone, even Chica herself Honestly that's a nice way to connect them with the Fazbear franchise in any way Also for the fun of it, here's a rank of favorites of the Mediocre Melodies: 1: Happy Frog 2: Orville The Elephant 3: Mr. Hippo 4: Nedd Bear 5: Pigpatch
I haven't seen anyone compare just how similar Mr. Hippo and Mystic Hippo are physically but, I wonder if it's a nod to real animatronics that got reused and edited into other characters, including of a different gender- Like the time a Chuck E Cheese animatronic was converted into a female animatronic character named "Mitzi the Bunny" 🤔
So far Mr Hippo returned in help wanted 2 in the form of mystic hippo. Pig patch in the first health and safety level, and Happy frog as a small cameo as a bandaid also in health and safety. Ned bear and Orville may be in the game and I just can’t recall/haven’t seen them yet.
12:39 I can now just imagine Mr. Hippo saying something like "I am gonna make you burn fo- oh that reminds me of the time I almost burned my cookies, it was-" the one you shouldn't have killed: "no stop what are you doing?"
I think what helps the Mediocre Melodies popularity wise is a couple of contributing factories. 1: Even as second rate knock offs of the main band, they at least have a fair degree of thought put in to their design. Even though Ned Bear is clearly a Freddy rip off, Happy Frog, Orville, Mr. Hippo, and Pigpatch all stand out among the various Freddies, Bonnies, Foxies, and Chicas. If only virtue of being different animals. 2: The fact that their some of the first true animatronics available to the play in Pizzeria Simulator combined with their non-existent liability rate meant that I'd be willing to be a lot of people stuck with them through out their first play through despite better animatronics becoming more readily available. It's the "Old Reliable" mentality: they may not be the core band, but their there from the start, their reliable, and they won't put your business in danger. Side note: 16:27. Y'know, I saw that image on google once. Did not realize that was actual artwork from the games. Guess someone at Steelwool must be a Tsuyu Asui fan. *Laughs* Jokes aside, I totally find Happy Frog a perfectly smoochable animatronic. She's cute and clean, has no danger, I find her personality endearing (and the image of her bouncing up and down after a smooch is utterly adorable to me) and I would imagine she could be quite sympathetic living in the shadows of the likes of the Chicas and Roxanne Wolf. Only hang up I would have is that her energetic personality could be exhausting after a while. But still, I'd give her a solid 10 to 11 on the animatronic smooching guide. Which means that I probably have some French blood in my family tree somewhere. 😆
You forgot how Orville, happy frog and pig patch are described in a fazbear frights story performing along side an early version of chica. I've forgotten which one it is but matpat mentioned it in a video to prove chica was created before she joined the band of core 4
Mr. Hippo and Orville are my robot grandpas purely because of their vibes. Mr. Hippo would tell me stories from his youth while Orville would show me cool magic tricks.
It’s crazy to see that Elvis lion (The King?) in this vid because I remember him being at our Chuck-E-Cheese’s when I was a kid and he scared me so bad I couldn’t even go into the dining area. I can’t remember why this one in particular, but I absolutely had a meltdown because of this guy.
Ah yes a new animatronic group that came out of no where but had very important lines in UCN except pig patch wonder why he was the only one left out on having the kids voice lines actually Mr Hippo as well only 3 of them have these kid voices lines . Happy frog was always my favorite member just by her personality
11:16 Wait, as far as we know, the Rockstar animatronics aren't possessed either, but they don't have batteries? So how did you make the "presence of batteries -> not haunted" link? Aren't those batteries here to show that they're old, outdated models instead? 20:05 Tbh the Rockstar animatronics have to compete with all the other variations of the main band, which is why they aren't that popular, they're easily overshadowed, which is a problem the Mediocre Melodies don't really have, they have no real competition (though I ain't a fan of the Rockstars anyways sooo...) Great vid as always!
Honestly, we don't know about the Rockstar band, so maybe. I just find it interesting that the Mediocre Melodies have to have batteries when many of the confirmed haunted animatronics don't... and do some spooky stuff, like floating and swiping batteries. The batteries are the key!...Or probably not. I just think it's neat. XD
AR had some really interesting cut Fazfacts about the Rockstars being made with parts from the OG animatronics. Due to that and the Rockstars getting the intro art for FFPS, I personally believe that Henry bought the masks in FNaF 3's ending at auction, rebuilt them as Rockstars, and the MCI spirits came in through them. But it was all glossed over for the Afton plotline and lost all context.
Thanks to the section names, I finally have been motivated enough to look up what "wind bag" means. Everything makes sense now. Also the Orvella Elephante bit was great. Another lovely video!
hippo probably tells fnaf related stories, replacing the characters, sugar coat the actions and distorting the time lines. idk if you play ucn very often but usually people place a lure in the duct and never touch it again, and use the heater either when rockstar freddy is asking for coins, or when you think its safe
It's my personal headcanon that the Mediocre Melodies are rip offs of specifically the fnaf 1 animatronics (either from their original run pre fnaf 2, or their run during fnaf 1's story). They're the ones that feel the most visually similar to the Mediocre Melodies. I imagine that they probably weren't popular at first, eventually leading to bankruptcy and the rights being bought by Fazbear Entertainment, but they slolwy started to become cult classics in universe (with Orville being the first).
Okay so according to matpat the mediocre melody’s we’re Henry’s creation and pre-dated the original band so likely they never had kids possessing them!
Awesome Video Note! I personally like these guys, I think they are underrated, especially Pigpatch, that's mostly because I adore pigs, they go as some of my favorite animals, I'm kinda sad you didn't include Rosie Porkchop in this discussion but at least Porkpatch made the cut. Also Mr. Hippo and Orvillie Elephant are dating you cannot convince me they aren't.
Okay so I know mascot heads are supposed to be hallow but like mr.hippo is very noticeably hollow. Idk if its because he lacks upper teeth but in his ucn jumpscare it looks....idk how to describe it except uncomfortable.
I do personally believe all are possessed, my original theories on them was either they were made for the Pizza Playground restaurant in the books by Fazbear Ent cuz of the MCIs at other locations, they were made by Fazbear Ent to try to create some new animatronics and see how people liked them, or they were from a competitor. Now I believe some things they say hunt at who they were in life, like how Mr Hippo’s and Orville’s souls may have been friends in life and that is what he is talking about (or it is in some arcade machine area thing like Happiest Day if you get what I mean). Now I believe some of the souls in Happiest Day are the Mediocre Melodies, but some aren’t, I believe the blue masked kid was possibly possibly possessing an animatronic we just haven’t seen yet, or could be a canon version of the blue springlock animatronic from the novel trilogy. And the green masked kid is most likely Andrew from Fazbear’s Frights, although most say he isn’t canon and is just a non canon version of Cassidy, then either Cassidy used male pronouns or the one who should not have been killed was a boy.
11:40 i love how with the release of "the week before" we find out that the classic animatronics are also battery powered, they have recharging pads on the stage that connect through their feet. So it seems the mediocre melodies can still be haunted, the technology just isn't as advanced as the fazbear animatronics, i think that's a really cool detail
I know I said this somewhere before, but I love these guys. I love how they show a lower level of robotics and the compromises they had to make, like the external power source they are connected too. Wish they added more details, like maybe the paint is peeling off already because it was cheap. But either way it’s pretty interesting. I only started to appreciate them in UCN because of hippos story’s and Orville’s enthusiasm for the stuff he does, but overall it’s a nice little gang. I hope they keep making cameos in the series! Also: 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Also, the blue mask is a recolor of the pink pig one. In my interpretation of it, it decided since there are three "Country" animals (Bear, Pig, Frog) and two Savannah animals (Hippo, Elephant) i made him a blue rhino (based on a design i saw on DeviantArt) who i named rhino Kyle. He had a very deep voice and played a sh*tty guitar. He was very friendly and also got lost alot for some reason. I think he had green eyes.
Did you know that by looking at animatronic eyes you can notice some patterns in the white dots on these eyes, and by comparing the patterns of different series of robots together one can make a conclusion that Mediocre melodies were the oldest set of animatronics there ever was?
I like the idea that Orville and Mr. Hippo as in-universe fictional characters were like... straight up queer-coded as a couple but never outright said bc that wouldn't have flied back in the day (or today in most places for that matter) ... OH! and having that carry over to the animatronics would "queer _coded_ " a whole new meaning lol
one thing i have always been curious about is if there's a connection with the flower on Mr. Hippo and the flower picture from the 8bit minigame in FNAF 4 in the other bedroom.
I like mat pat’s idea on the mediocres, that they came from a rival franchise ran by henry that somehow fused with William’s business and became Fredbear’s Family diner, if you look on their models in Fnaf 6 they have batteries outside os their bodies, which means that they are very old
My favorite detail of Mr Hippo is that he even acknowledges that youre dead in one of his stories but it doesnt stop him from rambling to your corpse lmao

Besides, I feel like the Mediocre Melodies are a really fun cast of characters with a neat meta vibe to them whrn you think about it. I also find them very charming in UCN. Such an odd addition for sure, but one I overall enjoyed as pointless as they are.
i find orville and mr hippo unsettling. Orville is mysteriously creepy and mr hippo rambles so much that its unsettling
Orville’s initially British accent slipping later into “vaguely European with formal education” accent throws me for a loop a little tbf
Mr Hippo did nothing wrong :(
I don't like pig patch he gives me the creeps
I loved this crew in Pizzeria Sim. Having a knock off band was such a fun novelty.
I love these videos cause I can imagine Velma from Scooby-Doo is telling me about fnaf lore
Let's find out who Springtrap Really is!

The melodies have always been one of my more favorite character groups. They'd totally fit into a cartoon show. Each of them are unique and although i like mr hippo the most, i feel like neddbear needs to make a a cameo. Justice for the country bear
No one wants to sit and listen to someone ramble on and on and”
Connection Terminated
Then I guessed Pigpatch is shelved for Roxy. I don’t know why people seem to not like Pig Patch as much.
"Frog legs are on the menu tonight, folks" absolutely destroyed me. You're amazing at writing these scripts.
What I like about them is that they are not some versions of Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Freddy. I wish they had more impact.
(Frontier City is a smaller six flags down the road from where I live)
I think it was the retired Jamboree Bears? There was also a ride called "Quick Draw" that had old animatronics and the new Foxy Logride level looks neigh identical. Brings back memories.
Also there is another new animatronic in screenshots for HW2. I think it might be either a reimagining of Neddbear or a Righty to Lefty. It kinda straddles the line between mediocre melodies and the rockstars.
I just got Oklahoma jumpscared. I never put much thought into this because I only went once years ago while my father was getting his doctorate at OU
pig patch is now my favorite fnaf character just for 3:24 "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down" *aggressive banjoing*
I would love to have Mr. Hippo read bedtime stories for me when I go to bed.
I just noticed that the Orville has a purple bow tie while Mr Hippo has a red tie this could represent there friend ship
Imagine if the biggest reveal in Help Wanted 2 is that Mimic is Mister Hippo. XD

Unrelated, but when am i ever gonna be able to bring up this bit of dark trivia.
It’s bugged me for SO LONG that no one mentioned how Pigpatch didn’t have a cursed voice line! I’m just so happy that someone FINALLY acknowledged it!
Happy frog is my favorite when I just heard her energetic nice and creepy voicline I was hooked
I think one theory related to the Mediocre Melodies that I liked is the them being part of Chica's Party World, that they were before the friends of Chica, but then sadly forgotten by everyone, even Chica herself
Honestly that's a nice way to connect them with the Fazbear franchise in any way
Also for the fun of it, here's a rank of favorites of the Mediocre Melodies:
1: Happy Frog
2: Orville The Elephant
3: Mr. Hippo
4: Nedd Bear
5: Pigpatch
You put nedbear in first RIGHT NOW
And pig patch in second
@@klaibefhuoaiuwehjklbdfsnxnik Is my opinion
I haven't seen anyone compare just how similar Mr. Hippo and Mystic Hippo are physically but, I wonder if it's a nod to real animatronics that got reused and edited into other characters, including of a different gender- Like the time a Chuck E Cheese animatronic was converted into a female animatronic character named "Mitzi the Bunny" 🤔
They turned a mouse into a rabbit??

So far Mr Hippo returned in help wanted 2 in the form of mystic hippo. Pig patch in the first health and safety level, and Happy frog as a small cameo as a bandaid also in health and safety. Ned bear and Orville may be in the game and I just can’t recall/haven’t seen them yet.
I hope Mystic Hippo keeps the accent.
I love their designs especially Mr Hippo and Nedbear❤️
And Happy Frog is just really sweet.
Also I like the golden girls
12:39 I can now just imagine Mr. Hippo saying something like "I am gonna make you burn fo- oh that reminds me of the time I almost burned my cookies, it was-" the one you shouldn't have killed: "no stop what are you doing?"
Lol missed opportunity
Wow, the slime boss from the Toy Story 2 video game. There's a weird reference to my childhood.
I love happy Frog . She’s one of my favorite animatronics .
I want Orville to become fnaf's gman stand in.
I like to think that Mystic Hippo is a distant cousin or even sister to Mr. Hippo.
You forgot how Orville, happy frog and pig patch are described in a fazbear frights story performing along side an early version of chica. I've forgotten which one it is but matpat mentioned it in a video to prove chica was created before she joined the band of core 4
Me. Hippo and Orville are my favorite romance in the FNAF universe, they are the married eccentric grandpas and I’m here for that.
thank you for making this video essay , ive been fixated on them for YEARS and this makes me so unbelievably happy
Mr. Hippo and Orville are my robot grandpas purely because of their vibes. Mr. Hippo would tell me stories from his youth while Orville would show me cool magic tricks.
I find it kinda funny how we got to se Mr. Hippo’s glamrock varient before Bonnie’s.
I love how Roxy is in shock how Glamrock Mr. Hippo exists while Monty and Chica are having the time of their lives.
Ah yes a new animatronic group that came out of no where but had very important lines in UCN except pig patch wonder why he was the only one left out on having the kids voice lines actually Mr Hippo as well only 3 of them have these kid voices lines . Happy frog was always my favorite member just by her personality
Mr. Hippo would play a triangle in a rock band. He's that cool.
When this game came out Pigpatch and Orville were my go to animatronics. I love them
Hey just wanted to say I love your videos and your voice, thanks for all the content you put out. Your perspective in the fnaf community is unique!
11:16 Wait, as far as we know, the Rockstar animatronics aren't possessed either, but they don't have batteries? So how did you make the "presence of batteries -> not haunted" link? Aren't those batteries here to show that they're old, outdated models instead?
20:05 Tbh the Rockstar animatronics have to compete with all the other variations of the main band, which is why they aren't that popular, they're easily overshadowed, which is a problem the Mediocre Melodies don't really have, they have no real competition (though I ain't a fan of the Rockstars anyways sooo...)
Great vid as always!
Damn, so happy for Mrs Hippo, my girl transitioned successfully

Now this is the video I’ve been waiting for! These guys give of a vibe. A nostalgia that I can’t quite explain.
And an update, pig patch is in the helpy medical practice mini game in help wanted 2
the idea of mystic hippo giving you a long winded speech just like mr hippo was so much better than what we got. RIP.
glad to see mystic hippo's transition went well!
She realized it was time to move on and maybe start up a business
People really liked those frog legs
Mediocrity has never looked so good till' now
Thanks to the section names, I finally have been motivated enough to look up what "wind bag" means.
A Golden Girls reference and a great video with excellent narration? A+ video.
I love your long videos of analysis, theories and basically everything you do, keep it up!
Thank you so much! I will! 8D
My favourite is Happy Frog, these are so iconic
I’m subscribed to the theory that they’re the masks worn by the other kids in the happiest day mini game
OMG the golden girls reference! ACK who would've thought 2 of my fav things could align
Mr Hippo and Orville are married, your honor.
if mr hippo doesn't give a speech at my wedding and funeral I'm not going 🦛🙄🙄
I always thought the Mediocre Melodies were like a joke about the plethora of copycat FNAF games
Okay so according to matpat the mediocre melody’s we’re Henry’s creation and pre-dated the original band so likely they never had kids possessing them!
I absolutely love that picture of Mr. Hippo mid jumpscare cause it just looks like he's screaming omg
I just noticed you wrote perfection in the thumbnail, beautiful.
Pigpatch gets a cameo in the new VR game!

Hippo as in-universe fictional characters were like... straight up queer-coded as a couple but never outright said bc that wouldn't have flied back in the day (or today in most places for that matter)
... OH! and having that carry over to the animatronics would "queer _coded_ " a whole new meaning lol
one thing i have always been curious about is if there's a connection with the flower on Mr.
