You should heat the beeswax first as it takes longer to melt and then the oils and butters as they might lose their properties due to over heating.

Everyone knows you melt the beeswax first and you test with a frozen spoon, and you add the Shea butter last to let it melt in the hot oil so t doesn’t go gritty. That would be so gritty on your lips.. you can add Queen labour essence if you want but only a cap at this recipe and dissolve 3-5 stevia tabs unless your using Bramble berry /Aussie Soap Supplies lip Smacker then you can add flavours like rum, ed wine, clementine is great for summertime, there’s tangerine, cotton candy, strawberry , chocolate and yes they taste like them, they don’t trick your mind thinking your got your flavour in there, it’s all kid friendly and diabetic friendly

also I made a box for both of my son's classes and when the kids have used up their glue twist sticks and have filled the box they bring it home for me to clean in hot soapy water and let air dry overnight, then you could either hot glue Fabric or paper cut to size or wrap washi washi tape and label incl ingredients :)

Grapefruit can be phototoxic in the sun so shouldn’t be used in lip balm anyway.
Any citrus oils shouldn’t be used on any part of the skin that then maybe in the sun.

I suggest researching your essential oil before you put it in your lip balm as some aren't good for your lips
U shouldn't put the lids on while they harden cuz it can cuz condensation and cause bacteria to grow
bees wax is good for so many things chapped lips melt it use it in body butters that's one of my ingredents that I add to my home made strawberry body butters and vanilla body butters and my cucumber melon and Lemon marang body butters its Safe and Healthy me and my 9 year old daughter Love it!!

For lip balm, I don't use the shea butter, I use coconut oil. Very little beeswax. Of course, I'll try your recipe too!

Love it! I did get the tip to first melt the beeswax because when you put the shea on heath to long it can loose some of the benefits to heal your skin. (Sorry my english is bad😂) Do you also have used mica powder in it for some color?

@@StephPlays4 wax crayons are not food safe and shouldn't be put on your lips!
If you do not wish to add beeswax, let the shea butter and almond set, then whip with a hand held blender...you will have a lip butter rather than balm.

I just recently tried making my own lip gloss with this type of recipe and mica powder. Cosmetic mica powder can be used but it comes out totally sheer once applied on lips. If you want it to leave a color, you'll need a lip gloss base like TKB sells (but I read it doesn't work well with mica powder).
But it's been a year since you're comment, so you've probably learned this already. ^^

therefore my receipe would be cocoa butter shea Butter beeswax and sweet almond oil. will this make perfect lip balm. well i also see people using coconut oil however since i am living in India adding coconut oil may melt my lip balm due to hot weather. can u pls advice if i skip on coconut oil.

Cosmetic grade soy wax will work if you have an aversion to using beeswax. Soy was is vegan and less expensive.

you can find that online but i searched it said 37 and 1/2 grams
you use a glass measuring cup measure out 1/2 or as it says in your cup of what you need follow directions on how to make it and yes you melt the bees wax in it !!

Ok...I just want to warn everyone that tries to make this (because I learned the hard way after spending a large amount of money on products) you
need to use a pan, measuring cup and spoons that you will be throwing away! Also, line your work space with some sort of disposable liner or towels that you don't plan on using again. This is a VERY messy project and when the ingredients are all melted it is VERY difficult to get off. Even harder to get off then candle wax!
Also, I made this lip balm EXACTLY as shown with all of the exact same ingredients and products and the balm came out super dry even though I added additional almond oil. So basically I have 20 tubes and 5 pots of lip balm that will be thrown away as it is way too dry. It also crumbles. Not sure what happened but the next time (if there is a next time) I will be making a smaller amount and using all disposable utensils. I had to throw my measuring cup and several spoons away and almost lost a very expensive pan. All this should have been mentioned in this tutorial but then it's probably here so we will purchase this companies products (which I did). Very disappointed to say the least!
Raechel Frantom I have things that I use specifically for projects like this not with my regular cooking utensils. Also soaking everything in very hot soapy water after helps it come clean. If your lip balm is gritty you heated your shea butter and bees wax to hot too quickly. If if it gets over heated shea butter gets very grainy. I use 1 part Shea butter to 1 part need bees wax to 1 part almond oil and I melt it all together at once not like her melting the butter first. Idk if that will help.

first lesson always use less amount first time , it all depends on how much u heat , how u cool. we made some lipstick using same methd used natural pigments for colour
wow your doing the hard way. go get a turkey baster and cut off the tip and a filling tray. super easy and everything is washable. also pot spoon in freezer before so when you dip it the spoon will cool the mixture and you can test what the end result will be like and add to your mix while bulk is melted.
I did this, and was able to wash everything fine by hand with hot water and soap... there is a possibility you burnt the oils by accident instead of heating them enough to be incorporated. Which would make sense as to why you had issues cleaning.
When oils and waxes harden, hot water will melt it off and make cleaning much easier. Unless it is burnt of course.

no you dont need beeswax, you can use 1 tbsp shea butter + 1 tbsp coconut oil + 1 tsp grapeseed/almond oil + 3-4 drops essential oil... This sets to a lovely soft balm. I pour mine into containers so it doesnt need to be firm. (too soft for push up stix)

Can you use lanolin instead of beeswax?
Beeswax is what makes the balm hard , it cant br subsituted but you could use a vegan wax
Thanks for sharing this. After searching through a drugstore's beauty dept for lip treatment, I decided to try my own. I've notice that petroleum-based products like mineral oil and petroleum jelly give me chest pains. Seriously. I researched the subject and although petroleum-based products have 'big molecules', there is thought to be something which enters the blood stream and, I guess I'm sensitive to it.
Okay so...I want to get some shea butter. I understand the properties of which can penetrate hair and skin. So, no problems there but, beeswax, to my understanding, is a protector only. I would like to find a product which moisturizes my lips. Like, something I can wear to bed. I wonder what would happen if I didn't add the beeswax?

You don't need the beeswax to make your own lip balm for bed.
Sheabutter, Jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and ur choice of essential oil (optional)
I make and sell shea butter face/body butters... I always thicken it on my lips for bed, it works great.
I also add rosehip oil, but you don't need to, and you could possibly be sensitive to it.

there is 2 different types of shea butter yellow and white
Some varieties of shea butter are naturally white. I have unbleached white shea butter also.
if you're reading this please use soy wax or any other plant-based wax instead of beeswax because contributing to animal cruelty is not cool

Well bees are insects .... while I agree that the methods used by some bee keepers is horrible, doesn't mean that beeswax is a bad ingredient... what's more concerning is the pesticides that are created by us and is used on our food, that's what's actually killing bees! I feel if you buy from local farms that you can feel good in knowing that the bees are well cared for!... just my two cents though...
