I've tried every lip balm on the market & always return to Burt's Bees. I even broke down & tried Beekman Brothers Pure Goats Milk & it doesn't hold a candle to Burt's Bees.
I used to have a skin care aromatherapy skin care company…back in the day….and now it is so much easier and cheaper to get containers and supplies off of Amazon.
I use 30% beeswax in the winter and 32% in the summer - always insures it won't melt in my pocket but still spreads smoothly. It is a crime how much lip balm is marked up. Then again, the price of the tubes has at least doubled in the past few years.
@@mercutiochaux1041It’s not acting as or being used as a moisturizer. It is being used as a stabilizer so that at room temperature and above, your stick of lip balm remains a solid. Ideally, you want your body heat / warmth of your lips to be just enough to melt the product and allow the oils to then absorb and moisturize the lips.
I'd recommend trying something other than beeswax. It's cheap and stable, but it's really not the best thing to be putting on your skin. Olive wax is a much better moisturizer and it doesn't clog your pores. Candelilla wax works too, as does palm wax but that last one has a funky smell to it that bothers some people.
How is it inferior ? beeswax has its unique properties and other waxes has its own qualities. Personally, i prefer beeswax for lipbalms, it smells and works the best for me and very simple. Candelilla wax has its own properties too and is it but it doesnt offer that creamyness like beeswax does. But then again, some people like beeswax and its creaminess and adhesiveness, other people like candelilla wax's glossiness and its not as sticky @@mercutiochaux1041

I love the texture and scent and this is the second cream I have lost because its been discontinued. The consistency can be like that because of their emulsifying ingredient some use emulsifying waxes which are great but others are using solid butters like shea butter or thick oils like non-refined coconut oil. Tara Lee on UA-cam made a whole video about six ways to do sugar scrubs and one was very similar to tree hut.

Beeswax definitely isn't the best thing to be putting on your skin, but it is cheap, stable, and has a long shelf life, so I understand why. Still, it's worth spending a little extra to get something much healthier for your skin like olive wax or candelilla wax.
I'm curious about your sources for this claim, and especially as to why you've mentioned what is effectively Crisco made from olive oil as a preferable alternative to beeswax (olive wax is hydrogenated olive oil and not a "true" wax) :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe It's mostly just that beeswax is more of an occlusive than a moisturizer. It's because it is a true wax that it doesn't really introduce any moisture to the skin so much as it just forms a barrier around the skin, which can be helpful I suppose if your skin is already moisturized, but a lot of plant-based waxes that are really just oils turned into a solid substance by exposing them to high temperatures and changing the hydrogen bonds interact with the skin in a way that encourages moisture absorption better. It's not like beeswax is going to irritate the skin or cause problems or anything like that, but it can lead to that annoying thing where you put it on your skin and you end up with dry, shiny skin. But petrolatum is a lot worse about that. Rubbing Aquaphor on your chapped lips just gives you reflective but no less chapped lips.
@@YourFavoriteCommie I see what you're stabbing at but I don't think "healthier for your skin" is the right way to express it. More like it's just more moisturizing. Beeswax is fine for your skin, so is olive wax, carnuba wax, so on and so forth. Some just are better moisturizers than others. Beeswax is ok, it's definitely not my first choice, but it's a lot better than some things like lanolin or petroleum jelly, or even tallow, which will do a decent job moisturizing but it smells absolutely abhorrent and has the most disgusting greasy texture.

New Directions Aromatics sells tubes for $0.19USD/$0.25CAD if you buy them 100 at a time. I generally buy 100 tubes once every three or four years :)

Beeswax definitely isn't the best thing to be putting on your skin, but it is cheap, stable, and has a long shelf life, so I understand why. Still, it's worth spending a little extra to get something much healthier for your skin like olive wax or candelilla wax.
I'm curious about your sources for this claim, and especially as to why you've mentioned what is effectively Crisco made from olive oil as a preferable alternative to beeswax (olive wax is hydrogenated olive oil and not a "true" wax) :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe It's mostly just that beeswax is more of an occlusive than a moisturizer. It's because it is a true wax that it doesn't really introduce any moisture to the skin so much as it just forms a barrier around the skin, which can be helpful I suppose if your skin is already moisturized, but a lot of plant-based waxes that are really just oils turned into a solid substance by exposing them to high temperatures and changing the hydrogen bonds interact with the skin in a way that encourages moisture absorption better. It's not like beeswax is going to irritate the skin or cause problems or anything like that, but it can lead to that annoying thing where you put it on your skin and you end up with dry, shiny skin. But petrolatum is a lot worse about that. Rubbing Aquaphor on your chapped lips just gives you reflective but no less chapped lips.
@@YourFavoriteCommie I see what you're stabbing at but I don't think "healthier for your skin" is the right way to express it. More like it's just more moisturizing. Beeswax is fine for your skin, so is olive wax, carnuba wax, so on and so forth. Some just are better moisturizers than others. Beeswax is ok, it's definitely not my first choice, but it's a lot better than some things like lanolin or petroleum jelly, or even tallow, which will do a decent job moisturizing but it smells absolutely abhorrent and has the most disgusting greasy texture.

I was thinking the exact opposite. I think that her website is extremely well organized and I am always able to easily find what I'm looking for. She has a link to an Amazon listing on her website for the scale that she uses. I don't think that she says specifically where she get's her beeswax but I got mine from New Direction Aromatics, 1 kg for $22.99USD
