    I use 30% beeswax in the winter and 32% in the summer - always insures it won't melt in my pocket but still spreads smoothly. It is a crime how much lip balm is marked up. Then again, the price of the tubes has at least doubled in the past few years.

    • @mercutiochaux1041

      I'm always confused why people use beeswax in moisturizers, it's inferior to so many other, cheaper, easier to obtain substances.

    • @BrettSmashy
      @BrettSmashy 7 місяців тому +3

      @@mercutiochaux1041It’s not acting as or being used as a moisturizer. It is being used as a stabilizer so that at room temperature and above, your stick of lip balm remains a solid. Ideally, you want your body heat / warmth of your lips to be just enough to melt the product and allow the oils to then absorb and moisturize the lips.

    • @YourFavoriteCommie
      @YourFavoriteCommie 6 місяців тому

      I'd recommend trying something other than beeswax. It's cheap and stable, but it's really not the best thing to be putting on your skin. Olive wax is a much better moisturizer and it doesn't clog your pores. Candelilla wax works too, as does palm wax but that last one has a funky smell to it that bothers some people.

    • @farihaislam7087
      @farihaislam7087 4 місяці тому

      How is it inferior ? beeswax has its unique properties and other waxes has its own qualities. Personally, i prefer beeswax for lipbalms, it smells and works the best for me and very simple. Candelilla wax has its own properties too and is it but it doesnt offer that creamyness like beeswax does. But then again, some people like beeswax and its creaminess and adhesiveness, other people like candelilla wax's glossiness and its not as sticky @@mercutiochaux1041

    Is it fine to use a fragrance oil in lip balms ? I was going through candle science website and according to their document uploaded on the website (IFRA). The maximum usage of the percentage for lip products is (0)... a lot of people love berries or vanilla flavoured lip balms. What can be done here ?

      I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the blog post, which is linked in the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.).
      Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop.

    • @katepitts6735
      @katepitts6735 2 роки тому

      The consistency can be like that because of their emulsifying ingredient some use emulsifying waxes which are great but others are using solid butters like shea butter or thick oils like non-refined coconut oil. Tara Lee on UA-cam made a whole video about six ways to do sugar scrubs and one was very similar to tree hut.

    Beeswax definitely isn't the best thing to be putting on your skin, but it is cheap, stable, and has a long shelf life, so I understand why. Still, it's worth spending a little extra to get something much healthier for your skin like olive wax or candelilla wax.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 місяців тому +2

      I'm curious about your sources for this claim, and especially as to why you've mentioned what is effectively Crisco made from olive oil as a preferable alternative to beeswax (olive wax is hydrogenated olive oil and not a "true" wax) :)

    • @YourFavoriteCommie
      @YourFavoriteCommie 6 місяців тому

      @@HumblebeeAndMe It's mostly just that beeswax is more of an occlusive than a moisturizer. It's because it is a true wax that it doesn't really introduce any moisture to the skin so much as it just forms a barrier around the skin, which can be helpful I suppose if your skin is already moisturized, but a lot of plant-based waxes that are really just oils turned into a solid substance by exposing them to high temperatures and changing the hydrogen bonds interact with the skin in a way that encourages moisture absorption better. It's not like beeswax is going to irritate the skin or cause problems or anything like that, but it can lead to that annoying thing where you put it on your skin and you end up with dry, shiny skin. But petrolatum is a lot worse about that. Rubbing Aquaphor on your chapped lips just gives you reflective but no less chapped lips.

    • @ThatGirlMisty
      @ThatGirlMisty 6 місяців тому +2

      @@YourFavoriteCommie I see what you're stabbing at but I don't think "healthier for your skin" is the right way to express it. More like it's just more moisturizing. Beeswax is fine for your skin, so is olive wax, carnuba wax, so on and so forth. Some just are better moisturizers than others. Beeswax is ok, it's definitely not my first choice, but it's a lot better than some things like lanolin or petroleum jelly, or even tallow, which will do a decent job moisturizing but it smells absolutely abhorrent and has the most disgusting greasy texture.
