Will you upload a service teardown video for the HP Omen 17 (2020) as well?
Replacing the thermal paste should be done from time to time because the specs are high in this model (i7-10750H + 2070 Super Max P) and it leads to a lot of heat. I'm planning to buy this model and I want to do maintenance on my own as far as possible (after watching a video about it).

      Hmm, so they improved repairability
My 2014 HP laptop had some of the worst anti teardown designs I've ever seen (Modular RAM and an M.2 slot, but you have to literally take out the motherboard to reach it)

OK, kudos to the engineer who made the DC jack so easy to replace. And the design of the heatsink, no weird tape or disconnecting fans before you can replace the termal paste! Keep this up HP

Honestly, this is good that you guys allow replacement and repair by the user. Sales will not be lost by simple battery changes, ram upgrades, or storage increases. If someone needs more cpu or gpu power then they will get a new labtop, and with ease of access an omen labtop. I just upgraded my ram and I will for sure to continue get omen labtops in the future. I have a 1660ti and 4800h.

Had to replace the keyboard on my Omen 15. Given that it's fixed to the top cover, that took some doing, but this guide has been hugely helpful in terms of general assembly. Well done, exemplary!

how did you manage to remove the keyboard from the top cover? I'm going through the same thing.

    • @sirterry77
      @sirterry77 11 місяців тому

@@tayloreasybuck3436 the problem I was facing was that it seems like the keyboard isn't intended to be changed out separately, but is plastic-welded to the top cover. The difference was $60 for a spare keyboard from China vs. $400 for replacing the whole top cover, including the keyboard, which is almost half of what I paid for the whole laptop.
I've used precision cutters I had around from scale model building to cut off the welds, but any sharp tool might do the trick.
After that, you can take off the metal plate backing the keyboard, and the keyboard itself more or less falls out with a little push.
I then added the spare keyboard in, but now the issue is how to reattach the metal plate that holds both the keyboard in place and provides the mounts for the mainboard. Since I cut off the welds, I ended up just supergluing the metal plate back into position. It sort of works, but I ended up with a slightly softer touch on the keyboard, given that the plate isn't fixed as firmly as it used to be.
In hindsight, I would probably go for a Bluetooth keyboard next time. It's possible to make it work, but it's a little sketchy.
I really would have loved screw mounts for the keyboard plate instead of the permanent fixings, forcing us to buy a whole new top plate for 6x the price.

I just found this channel and saw you make an attempt to respond to every comment. Reminds me of an old computer service manual I saw from the early 80’s that literally said “for hardware questions call Eddie Wilcox at####”. It would be if actual replacement parts were anywhere to be found. I've never in my life searched online for a laptop screen replacement and not been able to find what I needed to fix my laptop. It's nice they explain to you how to do it, sure, but you can't do it without the parts...
Even when I asked their technicians if I could find a replacement for my screen anywhere, or perhaps purchase it from them, only to be told "You can also send it in to us and be charged ~$600, go back to Best Buy or another authorized repair shop..." Effectively ignoring me.
HP... Never again with all of the problems I've had and their insistence on gouging me. Steer clear. I've used them from my very first laptop over a decade ago. I always looked past the terrible thermals/performance, fragile builds and poor customer service. Never again after this.
I didn't pay 1600 grand for a laptop just to pay another 600 grand to have someone else do what I can do myself. Especially when the keyboard ghosts over keys constantly and it seems no one can get them to fix the damn problem.

Did you ever encounter something like this before? I didn't clean fans because they seemed clean to me, I clean the heatsink and put new thermal paste on the graphic card and processor. Is it because i maybe put less thermal paste than i should've, so that to cool the processor fans working a bit faster than before? I'd really appreciate the help.

Taking the manual fan control out just hinders us as consumers. This also happens with my unit.

Hi, recently I had a malfunction in the backlight of the keyboard and the technician told me the keyboard and top cover has to be replaced for this, so that means heat sink will also has to be opened and repasting has to be done. What I want to ask is that can we ask the technician to bring the thermal paste of a particular brand which I trust eg, Thermal greasely kryonaut or he will bring only company provided paste.
Also he suggested that since we are only putting the same heatsink over the same cpu so there is no need for repasting but after seeing this video, I insisted on that part

Most HP notebooks that come with an internal battery, do not have a CMOS (RTC) battery.

Sir , I just bought an omen 15 with Ryzen 4800h. It has been only a week & I have noticed that the hinge covers tend to move back and forth while adjusting the screen. Also the hinges seem to be too tight. I have following questions:-
    1. Is there a chance that the hinge might break the aluminium base ( I don't want to damage it because its beautiful ). If it does get damaged what is the replacement cost?
    2. In the hinge replacement section of the above video you showed us the interior of how hinge is connected to the display. My question is how is the hinge connected to the interior base of the laptop ie. Is it connected to the aluminium base cover or the plastic base lid?
    3. Is it possible to loosen the hinge so that it doesn't cause damage to laptop. Also I noticed a slight screen wobble , what might be the possible cause for it ?
