I did this a week ago to my 9 year old laptop. It was always blowing the fan really loud for no reason lately. Reverted it back to 2014 and after a day of catching up to 9 years of updates, now it's nice and quiet again. Was gonna buy a new laptop this year if this didn't help, luckily it did. Really recommend this. Also don't bother waiting to create the image until after you've customized it with all the programs that you like to use because they're going to be so out of date they won't even update anymore so you'd have to uninstall them anyway and it just makes the image bigger than it has to be.

For those complaining about the OOB snapshot being out of date, you can use Macrium Reflect at ANY time to back up your machine this way, so you'll always have a current system image to return to. Of course, this would require a larger backup disk (usb, external drive, etc). Once backed up, you can even remove the OEM restore image if allowed, knowing you have a better version of the system image available.
Thank you Ruggiero AV Services, thank you for taking the time to explain to the people who indeed have questions that you have clearly and cleanly answered. Thank you :-)
@@kylecurry1410 for a drive dedicated to these types of backups, I would ensure it is at least double the size of the hard drive you wish to back up. If larger, it affords you the option of keeping multiple point in time backups to return to at any time.

The idea itself isn't bad, but most of the laptops slows down because dust accumulates among the components, so, for a fully *recovery* before reverting your OS make sure that your laptop is clean inside as well
@@someoneyouneverknow7529 dust in itself is weird. It always accumulates itself especially on places which don't experience much activity. Not using laptop for a month could lead to dust build up inside it, but it's very unlikely that it would reach to the point where performance would be affected. It'd takes years of not using a laptop for that to happen.
Nice to know someone else does that, too! I started doing a "pre-first-boot backup" so that I never even get to the initial setup boot before my first backup is done. Exact same process, only my first boot is from the USB stick. The reason I started doing that is because if I ever sell the laptop, I can either give it a "new out of the box experience" for whoever buys it, or I can pull the HD/SSD, replace it with a new one, and restore the original PRE-1st-Boot system image, while not wasting time worrying about lost files, as I keep the original drives with me. It works out to the same as having OEM reinstall disks...which NOBODY includes in the box any more, and most wont' even sell them to you, even if you're willing to pay extra for them!
YES This this this ! I also made a clone right after purchase for this very reason, if you ever decide to sell it, you reclone it back to the original "just purchased" state so that the next user will also have the exact "just purchased" state of the laptop. I miss those oem disks...
@@BracerJack There are so few of us who understand the need for doing a regular backup...even less of us who think as far ahead as to even have the concept of a pre-first-boot backup...even AFTER you explain it to them! d;o) Over 20 years...first time I ever found anyone else who understood the concept, let alone who did it! \\=^D
if you need to use wifi to download Macrium Reflect, make sure your wifi is treated as metered connection in wifi setting. when you set up a connection as metered, your computer will no longer automatically download the system update through it. Very rare to find tutorials that can actually help you out when you weren't even looking for it.
Awe, thank you for being so gentle and nice towards me !
exactlly :)))
Everything that you have said are words of gold here, I really REALLY hope people can read your comment and realize just how important this is.
Thank you for once again sharing what so many people just dismiss only to realize they should have done it a long time ago :D

@@BracerJack just wanted to update. The fan noise came back not very long after. Seems my hardware isn't compatible with the codecs youtube uses, simply too old, and thus they put a large strain on the CPU, so unfortunately reverting to old image doesn't always fix it.

Thank you :-)
How big of an external hard drive does this require?
@@kylecurry1410 for a drive dedicated to these types of backups, I would ensure it is at least double the size of the hard drive you wish to back up. If larger, it affords you the option of keeping multiple point in time backups to return to at any time.
@@djjoeyr Awesome thank you. Does the external hard drive have to be dedicated to this or can I store other files on it as well?
@@kylecurry1410 You CAN copy/backup individual files to it as well, providing it is large enough. But I'd use it primarily for the system image backup.

The idea itself isn't bad, but most of the laptops slows down because dust accumulates among the components, so, for a fully *recovery* before reverting your OS make sure that your laptop is clean inside as well
Your answer is incredibly useful in the hardware sense ! Thank you for dropping this comment, you have no idea, but you have helped a lot of people !
clean the fans and also replace the thermal paste if it gets slow
Weird how dust get between components,
Am I living in the desert?
@@someoneyouneverknow7529 dust in itself is weird. It always accumulates itself especially on places which don't experience much activity. Not using laptop for a month could lead to dust build up inside it, but it's very unlikely that it would reach to the point where performance would be affected. It'd takes years of not using a laptop for that to happen.
@@EironKyle Nice to see you commenting :-D I always make it a point to remove the laptop casing once every 6 months to at least clean the fan
@@BracerJack There are so few of us who understand the need for doing a regular backup...even less of us who think as far ahead as to even have the concept of a pre-first-boot backup...even AFTER you explain it to them! d;o)

if you need to use wifi to download Macrium Reflect, make sure your wifi is treated as metered connection in wifi setting. when you set up a connection as metered, your computer will no longer automatically download the system update through it.
BTW loved the idea in the video. I wish I had done it to my laptop as well. Nevermind I will do it next time I buy a gaming computer/laptop in the future
Thanks for giving some useful advise :D
If your laptop is still working well, you owe it to your FUTURE self to make the clone now, for if in the future something happens, virus, bloatware, system registry errors, or things just generally not behaving correctly, you still have your clone of this moment and in just 5 minutes, get everything back to where it is at this moment.
Save your future self, make the clone to an external drive and keep it forever ;p

Muhammad Luqman Hakim Bin Abd Rashid, I think it is time for you to re-install windows from scratch, five is a long time especially when you didn't make the clone five years ago.

Wow. This is going to be a life saver for me. Thank you so much Jack. I am gonna surely share this to all my friends.

Super glad I saw this a few months ago before I got my laptop. Just did an image overwrite after suffering a massive virus attack. I owe my dear PC’s life to you, you beautiful man and, I never thought I’d say this, the UA-cam algorithm.
Oh wow wow wow.....YES !!! I KNEW someday people will understand the true POWER of this technique, so glad to see how you have utilize this technique to its fullest !
Now your computer is new again, as though nothing happened !!!
@@BracerJack The thing is, though, I cannot emphasize how much I am grateful for this video. Being able to restore to stock settings that came with the laptop is super valuable. I’m really glad I saw this video when I did. System Restore isn’t super reliable to remove viruses. Factory Reset can be troublesome for drivers and stuff, and it also doesn’t guarantee a full wipe of malicious code. To think I used to underestimate the value of a system snapshot, and a stock one at that.
@@pressfinchat Only those who have been through a situation where this is needed knows how important this is, while some just looked at this video and go "meh, I will do it....later...", there is no "later" bro, you do it NOW.
You are going to be a hero to your friends now, because you will be telling them how important this is.
And you are right about the built in system reset/restore/whatever, for when their computer is infected by a virus, do they just magically believe the virus leniently through acts of compassion decided not to infected those specific files ? That is just crazy thinking 😬
This vid actually shows up when i literally will get my new laptop! Thanks a lot, Jack! I'm surely gonna try to do this to my new loui♡
Congratulation on getting a new laptop !
And do remember to make the clone, so that you will always be able to return to your new computer state if anything happens to your computer in the future :D

U need 2 pendrives
One for saving iso image of system
One for the masterboot programm to reset the system or to install your iso image.
U need to connect both drives at time of resetting or installing iso img.
