Lived on a Ranch in Montana growing up. After going into the service and Dad had to sell the place but we did have one Wolf get caught in a trap way up on the mountain behind our place when I was about 9 or 10. Dad did about what this guy did and we thought that was the end of it. A couple of years later we were out feeding cattle and there was this old Wolf watching us. That wasn't too strange at the time but we kept an eye on it.
The next morning that Wolf was close to the back end of the side wall of the barn just laying there. Mom thought there was something wrong with it. I had to head out and Milk but that Wolf never budged. After Milking it was still right there laying down. I took the milk inside and told Mom to watch as I had to go scare it away. It never moved and I got within maybe 15 feet and stopped. I could tell it there was something wrong. It never growled or even showed it's teeth to me. I got down and my knees and crept closer...still not one sign of aggression. I stopped at her head and could tell it was female this close. She sniffed at me and then wagged her tail slightly and laid her head down.
Mom saw and then brought out a bit of milk and some store bought dog biscuits...It only drank some of the milk and turned her head away from the biscuits. She was still in the same place that night during my milk chores and didn't budge when I gave her a little more milk. I could tell she was in bad shape because she had to have been hungry but still not one bite of the raw hamburger I took out. She just sniffed at it and looked away.
The next morning she never moved as I went out to milk. After Milking I went to give her more milk and she was not moving at all so I figured she had died right there over night. Mom thought that She came to die in a safe place. Dad thought she looked familiar but wasn't sure.
We never knew if this was the same one Dad helped but it sure seemed to fit. She was the only Wolf that ever came close to any of our buildings. My Brother, sister and I buried her up over on the back side of the hill directly behind the barn...we assumed that is the direction she came from so figured this was the most logical place to bury her.
Some won't believe this encounter but then some won't believe that Wolves are capable of interaction or can even have a little compassion towards humans...I feel sorry for those.

Yes, she surely came to die in a safe place. Animals have a instinct that we'll never fully understand, but when thy get sick, stressed and too weak to defend against aggression, they usually will find a place of protection, a safe place where they can go naturally. Loved your story and recollections of those days.

The the story changes or its several different stories. Another one was about a man that found a trapped mother wolf and did the exact same thing, only after rescuing her she ran off and once returning home he went off to war. He returned many year later and found himself in the exact same woods and called out. She surfaced in the distance and took a long hard look at him before howling and disappearing again.

It's fake, wild animals would not sit with their leg in a trap for seven days and be fed,... think about it! 😃
A wild trapped animal will literally chew threw through their own limbs to get away, those that don't tend to be herbivores, deer etc (No canines :) just molars for plants), they will just lay down and wait to die. :(
It's just another story that they've created for views to boost their revenue gain, just like those 5 minute craft videos lol!
Why do you think you NEVER... EVER... see any actually footage in all these stories they have in their repertoire on UA-cam? Not once will you EVER see any actual real videos or photo's, it's just a collection of images and video shorts that they will have purchased through a site. In fact some aren't even purchased because you can find many of them on the royalty free image sites, I mean.... identical! 🤣😂

      1. The guy was "mining" with a group of friends, yet everyday instead of going to work mining with them, he would secretly go and feed these animals, and apparently none of his friends were the least bit curious as to what he was doing, like they would have even cared.
      2. 5 years later he's in the same state (Alaska big state) and he's just sure he sees the same wolf that he secretly fed and saved the life of, but then waits another 15 years to finally tell his uncorroborated story?

This story doesn't ring true in a couple of aspects. First, wolves do not welp in the winter. They drop their pups in early spring and raise them through the summer when the living is easy. So all the snow scenes are for effect. Second, Farley Mowat lived with wolves for a couple of years while he researched their behavior. He wrote in his book, Never Cry Wolf, that there had NEVER been a case where wolves attacked anyone ever. Wolves may eat a dead person, but they don't attack. The wolves of Europe may be a different story but in 30 years of living in the wilderness of BC I never heard of or saw a wolf attack a person. They were chilling to listen to in the dead of winter and even more exciting to see in real life. But I was never afraid for my life from a wolf.

Five years or so ago I was leaving for work when I noticed a fox with it's head stuck between the banisters of the deck. It didn't like me grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and pulling it back through. But they're not a lot bigger than a cat...so he wasn't difficult to manage. Anyway...this guy started showing up every night. I have no domesticated animals...so he wasn't hunting a house cat. I think he felt safe because it was elevated and had a view of the yard and surrounding woods. I started going out there at night and throwing a hot dog or something at him to eat. Six months of that and he'd come over and take food out of my hand. He never let me touch him...but he'd stretch out near my feet. A year ago he vanished. About four months ago....I got really sick and the doctor told me I needed a kidney transplant. I was sitting outside trying to make sense of what was happening in my life. When my fox friend showed up with a human kidney in his mouth. They remember kindness, folks!

But it's completely the wrong way round: Even our OWN consciousness is very much more dependent upon how we feel than anything else. Feeling, is what animals do before they become conscious.

Wolves have a great memory when it comes to humans who help them. I love wolves in general and have watched several informative and heartwarming UA-cam videos on wolves. I had a German Mastiff mixed with pitbull, I find out the hard way when it wouldn't stop growing, and would tip furniture over.... it was scary.... he grew like a mini horse, little I knew that a cop kicked him badly when he was little, because they were looking for my brother in law ,which when isn't in jail is because he's just going back... I thought he was ok, but when cops try to make a short cut through my property, because somebody was breaking into my neighbors home, I discovered they don't forget ever... he mauled a cops leg... I didn't had the $100 dollar license, so I had to flee with the dog so he wouldn't get euthanized.... I didn't had enough gas and my truck was misfiring so much that wouldn't pass 50 miles per hour, but I made it, surprisingly I made it... back home, but the trip damaged my truck and it was about 3,800 dollars in repairs... but I saved my dog...

Then left him release her when she trusted and her brought him to her pack and became an honorary member of the pack.
He left and came back years later he went back to the woods and saw that mother wolf one last time before she return to the forest.

But as you know, these predators do attack and kill many humans enjoying a trail hike, a mountain bike ride ect. People who don't live where these predators do have no idea of the measures land and homeowners have to take to prevent the people from being harmed. Humans are the top predators on the planet, and there's a reason. Just love and care for your domesticated animals and pets. Most all predators are now protected by laws.

When I was a boy, we were on vacation in the Swiss Alps, camping in tents and generally living off the land. My father was training for a Strongman competition while my mother and I would hunt for Grizzly bears and chop firewood during the daylight hours. One day, I woke up to find the tents were all ransacked and my parents were nowhere to be found. I didn't know what to do, as I was only 5, and so I decided to leave the camp site and go searching for them.
After hiking up and down the mountainsides for several days, only eating a few nuts and berries along the way, I eventually stumbles upon a large cave opening and noticed their was bear paw prints as well as scat all around the entrance. I also noticed one of my mother's shoes were hanging from a nearby branch, so I immediately deduced that I'd found the bear who had eaten my parents.
Cautiously I entered the cave frightened that the bear would snatch me up in its claws and swallow me in one bite. After walking through what seemed like a maze, I finally entered into the bear's den- a large cavernous opening about the size of the Old Nashville Opry before they remodeled it. I couldn't believe how bright the cavern was inside and at first winced as my eyes had been adjusted to the pitch dark and the sudden flash of light was blinding. But gradually I was able to see and what lay in front of me astonished me to my very core..

Actually our domesticated dogs kill more humans than wolves. However, it's the power of a wolf pack that gives them the ability to literally take down the huge buffalo, and livestock of the ranchers. Wolves know how to hunt, and work efficiently in teams in order to "dog" their prey to the point of exhaustion.
You see the same tactics being used by people - where they go out day after day, and night after night and "dog" the Police relentlessly. The Cops can never catch a break, or get adequate rest . The wolf packs of these humans, are instinctive to destroy law and order, or- " the Big Bad Buffalo". AMERICA. You can see the human wolf packs destroying cities, lives and livelihoods and in large packs, they are unstoppable. Now, their new tactic is easily accomplished because they have pretty much accomplished their goal of abolishing Police through the relentless harassing and abusing of a civilized society. With no law and order, and no punishment for crimes committed by criminals !!hey!! IT'S SMASH AND GRAB, EVERYTHING THE HUMAN WOLF PACKS WANT THEY NOW HAVE THE POWER IN NUMBERS TO TAKE IT FROM YOU AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
However, the ranchers know what it takes to stop the wolf packs from decimating their herds of cattle, and buffalo. No, they don't capture, remove, and relocate the wolves. They do what's necessary for the survival of the ranchers ranch. They SHOOT AND KILL THE WOLVES.

The kuprinoff story says the wolf was riding the snowmobile and the guy was stuck in a trap. The wolf then putted over to the guys house and brought the mans pets, children, and livestock and then ate them in front of the trapped man. They then became friends for evermore.

I believe this story as I’ve had an encounter with a coyote. We live in Clearwater, a mid size town, and was out one night walking my dog, when he began to growl. Suddenly a rather large coyote ran out from between houses with a rabbit in his mouth. I froze and watched it run down the street and disappear. The next night I went back on a walk looking cautiously for the coyote but didn’t see it. I repeated this for several nights when just as suddenly I realized I may never see it again. It’s been over 6 years now and I’ve given up. Maybe some day when I trip or something while walking my dog I’ll look up and see that coyote staring at me, hopefully not with my little silky in its jaws. I know, strange story but true.
