So here's something to consider -- all these years we've been guarding against getting zinc contamination in our lead...now we might have to guard against getting lead contamination in our zinc...Gah..!! the world, she is changin'... FC
hey Mr Fortune Cookie! Yep.. What a mess. How things get twisted around! We drive on parkways, Park on driveways... : ) With decent results too! Thanks for stopping in my Friend!
Thanks Willie Young!!! Awesome job on putting those zinc bullets together.. We all enjoy this kind of thing! Get a kick and a Bang out of it!! : ) I will be doing a little more zinc fun with these bullets I think... Coming up!! Thanks so much.......
Im pretty new to the reloading scene. Ive learned a lot from this channel. hopefully ill be able to get into casting my own lead or zinc bullets soon trying to find wheel weights. I think ill be able to get some but it just stinks that i wasnt born like 10 years earlier. thank u elvis ammo great channel.
Willie! Many thanks! I will look into to that. Wondering how you drilled them out? By using CNC machine? Thanks again! Elvis, now we know which mold Willie is using. :)
There you go puttin a smile on my face again. You and them damn zinc boolits (sic) . LOL.. Me I am just finishing bullet casting fest 2017 here at the compound cuz I ain't paying for 45-70 rounds .. no sir. Got to make em. along with the .45 Colt. Love doin it but the hand bullet resizing is a pain. ha ha. Have a good day. PS molds from NOE also came with deep hollow point pins as well. So made 45-70s and .45 colts into some real bad boys as well as the FNs
Hey Elvis, So this vid inspired me to do my own testing with zinc 9mm and 300 aac. I was able to get those same results and even push them up to over 1600 fps. Just uploaded the results. Glad you recommended the tumble lube design. They're working great! Got my reminder on the pod cast today
hey Kenny Ey.... I watched your videos on the subject ... great job!!! Glad to see you taking advantage of the free zinc! You are an example of what I had in mind when I started the project!!!
Hey elvis ammo, Thank you for dropping in! Even with your busy schedule I really appreciate the feedback. This is a great subject you've started. Looking forward as always on your next vids
The first bullets I ever loaded was with 700x. I had just seen your 45 video with the turret press and got 700x because that's what you used and it was in the reloading manual my father handed down to me. It is near the top of the list for fastest burn rates, so it works great in short barrels like my 3.25" 9mm and full size 1911's. I even use it in a 24" barrel 45 colt lever action. It gets 1600 fps with 250 grain rounded flat nose, and that's without exceeding the old Speer manual's max for single action revolvers. It's versatile enough that I can use it for all my pistol caliber plinking Ammo. It's very economical too for @$20/lb and only 4-6.3 grains per round. I am starting a 300 BLK project gun and plan to handload everything I shoot. Since a 200 grain bullet is being loaded to similar velocities as many pistol rounds, would 700x function for subsonic without causing excessive pressure?
hey Chris Cogsdil... Yeah great powder! You can even load rifle Gallery loads there called. For bolt actions.... This can give surprising velocities. It's published load data, so it should be easy to find. But for Ar's and semi auto rifles, It will work but it will not work the action,,, you would have to treat it as a single action. Rack it by hand after each shot! But don't be fooled and exceed published load data max..
Great test Elvis! As usual. I've been wondering how they'd do in 9mm. I had great success in 45 acp. (accept one passing thru the chroni screen) I only have one 9mm mold I use so didn't want to chance it. But I might change my mind now.
Hey Steel Punisher 69... I forgot you told me you made 45 cal zinc bullets.. The 9mm worked out really great! Sorry about your chrono... I cant say nothing since I have done that before myself!
Intreaging guy.. Zinc has alway been the nightmare of bullet casters, getting the stuff in your Material is a serious waste of alloy and time. (If you have ever had to clean out a contaminated furnace) You know what I'm talking about. So at the end of the day, instead of just tossing out the Zinc a caster can make zinc bullets and save a little money at it. Good video Elvis, Keep up the good work over there. Dave.
Hey Thorsaxe777 Thanks! I think it adds another layer of fun to what we can do as well! These turned out great! : ) No mixing it though!!! Thanks again
Elvis, any plans on comparing results of powder coated vs non powder coated zinc? I'm not sure there's a reason to coat them, leading isn't an issue. But I wonder if the PC would be better on the barrel. Just wondering what your thoughts are.
Hey Keith Hamilton... Well it would be hard to argue with powdercoating being better for the barrel.. No leading in zinc for sure. Comparing the two might be hard to determine... More than likely be close! I have done these tests with lead vs jacket vs lubed....
Just wondering and thinking out loud. Thanks for another great vid, I'm really learning a lot from your work and I appreciate it. And I'm not junking my zinc anymore, it'll be a long while before I cast it, but I'd hate to scrap it if there can be a use, and your proving there is.
thank you very much, i have another question; Can these zinc bullets be used at normal speeds like factory coat copper bullets, in wheel lead alloy you must take powder caoting?
Rodney Hardee ...thank ya sir! this test turned out better than I thought. . very happy with the results. If I could have got more powder in the case this thing would zing!!! ; )
Great vid as usual, quick question: Just kinda want to ask your opinion on the 700x powder, is it clean? is it reliable? That sort of thing, really want to try it out but not much info about it out there. Thanks.
hey... holmiumh... yep... great powder, well grounded. some folks use this powder for almost all their pistol loads... has a wide range of published load data, And economical too! don't know anyone sorry for having it... Thanks for watching!
Wow Elvis! That's wild. I have so many questions now though. Like, I have heard that zinc is much slipperier than lead so It probably doesn't need powder coating. I wish I hadn't butchered my 22 mold. I have been swaging my bullets lately. There is no way I would be able to swage zinc bullets. But I would love to try making zinc bullets for the 22lr. As a matter of fact the 55 grain 225 lee mold would make perfect zinc bullets for a 22lr. they would weigh about 32 grains?
Hey Hans Pcguy... Yeah they glide pretty good. You could get a cheapo 2 cavity lee mold to try it! 20 bucks or so.... let me know what ya come up with?
Yes, i bought one 2 years ago for $20 on eBay. I just checked, they are $27 now. Maybe get one next month when we have more money. You know that you are going to have all kinds of people sending you stuff now to test. Me included. I am going to do a complete run down on all that I learned about reloading 22lr. Wow there was a lot of stuff to learn that is unique to just rimfire. Right now I am working on a cannelure type crimper. I will be glad when I get this done so I can move on to 9 mm. I am going to cut the grease grooves off my molds too. It is better for powder coating (and maybe zinc bullets too). Don't you have a hard time sizing those zinc bullets? Oh I bought some stump remover because of you ...woohoo.
Yeah Hans Pcguy... They are a little stiff in the sizer.. Willy Young says he heated them to 150 degrees and this made it easier to size.. That could be a trick. I lube them to size. Some bulets I think will benefit from groves and some wont. depends on the amount of contact bullet/barrel keeping the pressure about right. Sounds like your gonna have some black powder fun too! : )
Hey Elvis, love 700 X powder I use it for almost all my calibers. Are you still melting Zink in the Lee Pot, are you afraid of pot failure ? How did those homemade fireworks do on the 4th ?
hey Nick J... Yes, love the 700x Yes you can load tons of stuff with it, : ) Im a fan.... I need to find a better zinc casting solution. Stainless steel is high on the list... The fireworks........ Other than everytime I fired up a fuse it meant take cover!!! Awesome... : )
Cool! I do have some zinc but haven't melt them into ingots yet. Due to no closed caption. Just wondering what kind of bullet mold did you use? Thanks!
Dale Fine...hey man! sorry for the no cc. not sure what youtube does sometimes. . no good explanation. . this bull was given to me by a viewer. Maybe he can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he used a lee 125 gr 9mm mold. he drilled the lube grooves out. ( just his preference) cast the zinc. The bullet come out to 80 gr. Any mold will do. just keep in mind, It may damage your mold. Hope this helps!
elvis, thanks again! I have a friend who knows how to run the CNC machines at his work. I am sure he will drill the molds for me. I will be waiting for a viewer to reply this msg. Thanks! You are the man! Edit at 7/19 6:35 am: CC is working! Not sure what is going on! Whewww...
elvis ammo I wonder if that would work. Just kidding. My biggest problem is having case expansion with heavier bullets. Maybe 115gr mold something smaller used in zinc would give me lighter grain bullets and fly faster and not fly apart.
My thinking is that they might at least have a chance to tear at the thin points, but whether or not they would actually flower (the penta looks more like a flower than a mushroom) is another thing. I'm guessing that if the actually did, that the petals might just break off and become shrapnel.
Hay my brother . Just picked up a h/k vp 9 . Owners manual says to shoot f.m.j. bullets . No lead no powder coat and no zink . What's your outlook on this.
Hey Brother Nick L... does it say the word powder coat and zinc? : ) Does it say you can't shoot square bullets too? : ) Well as you know your not suppose to shoot reloads in a glock.... I have 4... nuff said on that.. but I don't know of the special circumstances of the h and k maybe you should give it a beer first! : ) I'd wanna know what the reasoning was I guess...
elvis ammo hay brother , you keep me from going to sleep. I read the owners on this h/k . It said only f.m.j. . So sent them a e mail asking about lead and owner costing. There answer to me was , f. M.j only. This is why I don't read owners manual any more . Being from New Jersey we don't follow directions any way . Now can I go to sleep . Thanks
Hey brother Nick Go to sleep already! I just wonder why everything I buy causes cancer in California and Im safe to use it in my state?? Go figure! : )
Dude.....awesome experiment! I know you have done some of these zinc projectiles for you 300 Blk out, what are your thoughts on shooting these at some further ranges? Would love to see that video. Great work, you're onta sumpin here.
Hey avid hunter1016... yeah I need to work on getting some info out on longer ranges. I suspect it will have some limitations because of it's weight. short to mid range... my guess!
hey jennifer willoughby... No.. If you do you will have a mess., The two don't alloy together... That kinda sucks since that would seem to make a perfect bullet! You'll get separation, pitting, and voids... Throw it all away. : ( Great question!
Hey Sternstones.... You might be surprised to know how much zinc is already involved in our factory ammo. I'll do a video on it eventually .... Thanks again for watching!
I have seen some zinc plated steel jacket ammo( i think) but i would be comfortable with a solid zinc round for my guns. You should get a job with supervel or buffalo bore...you are an innovator.
Thanks for stopping in my Friend!
elvis - Always mighty fine dropping in to see what's new on elvis ammo...!! That zinc you are doing is taking bullet casting to new levels...FC Steve
Thank you Elvis ammo for showing my zinc bullets I really appreciate your videos
Thanks Willie Young!!! Awesome job on putting those zinc bullets together.. We all enjoy this kind of thing! Get a kick and a Bang out of it!! : ) I will be doing a little more zinc fun with these bullets I think... Coming up!! Thanks so much.......
Awesome! Keep it up brother - the future of California may depend upon it.
Thanks Loads Of Bacon! Eat More Bacon! : )
Im pretty new to the reloading scene. Ive learned a lot from this channel. hopefully ill be able to get into casting my own lead or zinc bullets soon trying to find wheel weights. An excellent video, very kind of Willie, and really surprisingly good results! Thanks again, Elvis!
Hey englishrupe01....Thanks and yep... good of Willie to share for sure! : )
Thank you for doing what your doing Elvis. You can't confine a free thinking mind to a box.
Hey jreg0028.. Your welcome brother! Your not the only one that has said my mind don't fit in a box... : )
This is a answer to Elvis ammo and Dale find question I used a lee mold 356-120-tc I removed the lube grooves not by Choice
Willie! Many thanks! I will look into to that. Wondering how you drilled them out? By using CNC machine? Thanks again!
Elvis, now we know which mold Willie is using. :)
I have seen alloys of Zinc-lead used for other purposes. It might be worthwhile to experiment with an alloy. 50/50? 70/30? It might be good bullets.
Great video, I have been separating my wheel weights, gonna have to look at your other zinc video's and give it a go around.
hey Reloading from the hot pot.... give it a shot. It's some pretty cool stuff.. If ya try it let me know how it goes!
Will do elvis ammo, thank you for all the informative videos

the best chanel about casting bullets, pozdrawiam
do zinc bullets must be sized and powder coated, thx
Hey Defender of P. No , Zinc bullets do not need to be Powder coated... But they do need to be sized... Thanks for the question
The best comment here!!!! : )
thank you very much, i have another question; Can these zinc bullets be used at normal speeds like factory coat copper bullets, in wheel lead alloy you must take powder caoting?
Off subject but why does lead get a purple tint when melting and making ingots for casting? Thanx in advance, great videos!!!!
hey Brody Hatina... Im guessing that the temp. was getting kinda hot... The melt will start to change colors.. That's my guess! Hope this helps....
elvis ammo thank you so much brother!!!
Will they hurt your mold an can you mix the lead with the zink
Hi Elvis, have you tried replacing the antimony for zinc in a 92% Pb, 6% Sb, 2% Sn mixture to be able to get a brinell hardness of 16?
Nothing wrong with that. I would rather shoot zinc than nothing at all. Could really save your butt. Nice job Elvis
Rodney Hardee ...thank ya sir! this test turned out better than I thought. . very happy with the results. If I could have got more powder in the case this thing would zing!!! ; )
Can you use these in polygonal rifled barrels?
Always have that one flyer for what ever reason
hey trees.... Dang it man!!!!! Thats not right

the california bullets of the future.!

nice! 38 super velocity out of a 9mm
hey Brian South.. If I didn't run out of room in the case it could of been like 357 mag... : ) yep nice ,,, thanks
elvis ammo any problems because of zinc hardness?
elvis ammo ok now I need to find some zinc bullets. I'm still trying to find one that will go 1800fps in my AR9
Hey JAM4photography... well I guess if ya can't get enough powder in the case you can soak the powder in gasoline first!!! : )
elvis ammo I wonder if that would work. Just kidding. My biggest problem is having case expansion with heavier bullets. Maybe 115gr mold something smaller used in zinc would give me lighter grain bullets and fly faster and not fly apart.
I wonder if the Penta hollow points that Loads of Bacon tested would expand using zinc.
Hey Psyko Klown... I kinda doubt it unless you got up in the 2000's or more... maybe more.. around 35 BHN
My thinking is that they might at least have a chance to tear at the thin points, but whether or not they would actually flower (the penta looks more like a flower than a mushroom) is another thing. I'm guessing that if the actually did, that the petals might just break off and become shrapnel.
Hey Psyko Klown... yep that's possible... I've seen large pieces bend pretty good with out breaking.... Sharp is good too! : )
"heeey UA-cam!... hey... today..." lol
Hey Rtwo Comm........! It's elvis ammo heeerere.....! I crack myself up! : )
Hay my brother . Just picked up a h/k vp 9 . Owners manual says to shoot f.m.j. bullets . No lead no powder coat and no zink . What's your outlook on this.

Hey avid hunter1016... yeah I need to work on getting some info out on longer ranges. I suspect it will have some limitations because of it's weight. short to mid range... my guess!
What type of penetration do you get with zinc on steel?
Hey d Klawbohhr.. I have a video on the subject... Zinc Steel Penetration
This would be a good option if you could afford to buy a new barrel every few hundred rounds.
Could zinc bullets be considered Liberal Friendly bullets? :-)
Hey archersfriend.... Only if ya paint them green!!! : )
can you mix zinc and lead
hey jennifer willoughby... No.. If you do you will have a mess., The two don't alloy together... That kinda sucks since that would seem to make a perfect bullet! You'll get separation, pitting, and voids... Throw it all away. : ( Great question!
Hey guess what they don't sell wheel weights 90% of the state either because that's illegal zinc or lead so thanks for contaminating
maybe we could convince a manufacturer to produce zinc bullets....i would love to blast a armadillo or hog with some.
Have you tried linotype? If not, respond back I’ll see if I could send you a couple pounds
Hey UA-cam It's Elvis ammo here showing you how to make zinc bullet and contaminating everybody's recycling LED from the range thank you
