Received my Elvis 77 mold. What an awesome Mold! Just cast up 1,500 perfect projectiles that all weigh 77 grains within .4 grains. Amazing. Can't wait to PC and shot
Elvis ammo I want to thank you for the great videos, I am a retired disabled vet I've learned to powder coat from your videos and I thank you keep making your videos You are a big help for people like myself Getting into the reloading ,powder coat, and casting
Howdy Elvis, I've been trying to find your video on this bullet to learn more about before I order one from Arsenal. Looking forward to seeing your testing results on the bullet. Thanks again. Great video as always!! Stay Safe my friend and God bless!!!
Hey Elvis, want to say couple things 1. I've read in Lyman manual that for cast bullets you're not suppose to expose base past neck, so that means this bullet is way too long to seat the way Lyman suggests. 2. With softer lead such as 15 BNH and powder coated, it doesn't mean it will lead your barrel if you push it fast, but your accuracy will be horrible. 3) In order to stabilize such heavy bullet you'll need 1 in 8" or faster twist rate and you need to push it fast enough which means more pressure which leads back to #2, you need harder lead. Anyhow, I'll be happy to test it for you. I got bolt action so it's more versatile with powder choice.
Funny, only way I can comment is to "reply" to someone? Mister Elvis: I never see any mention of gas checks on these for rifle rounds? Is it just not necessary to use them with powder coating? Appreciate any info. Been burning through these videos for days now. Appreciate the effort. My main interest is .223 and .300 BLK from an AR both pistol and carbine.
@@tomdubya7692 you can use gas checks if you want. I don't on mine wether I am loading zinc or lead I don't powder coat my zinc bullets either and they are pretty accurate but I use 45 grain load data for the zinc bullets just gotta be careful not to compress the powder, I also seat them and crimp them enough to keep the bullets from being pushed back during chambering. I have a brass hardened 4 cavity mold it weighs a ton LoL Jared st arsenal definitely makes a sturdy product and both the sprew plate screw and sprew latching screw both have Allen key screws in the side of each and I've never had a problem when casting.
This has nothing to do with this video but I want to thank you for making upfront, honest, sometimes hilarious videos about reloading and casting. Today I cast my first 9mm bullets using a lot of your advice and techniques and the first batch wasn't to hateful. Thank you again and keep up the good vids.
Hey Elvis thanks for doing this project, and thank you Arsenal Molds supporting Elvis. I will be buying Arsenal Molds since I am new to casting bullets and my drawer only has one mold. I have gotten so much information from Elvis and fellow casters you can support Elvis Ammo by letting the ads play entirely since Google uses it a performance measure in determining compensation (according to another channel).
Elvis I finally pulled the trigger and got me a brass 4 cavity 77 grain Elvis Ammo mold ordered! I can hardly wait to get casting with it! Now I'm gonna be able to put all the zinc ingots I been stacking up to good use arsenal molds said its a 4 to 6 week backorder but it'll be worth the wait for me!
I recently came across a used NOE mold for 223 . It is a 225 - 100 -FN . I cast the 100 gr. 223 bullets and cut some down to 80 gr. to try out . On my first try I got the 80 gr. cast bullets to shoot 5/8 in. at 25 yds at 1907 fps with a 9 twist barrel . Whew Hew ! Need to do more tests to the 100 gr. bullets as they tumbled on me .
I'll be following this one , I've had a heavy 223 bullet on the back of my mind for quite some time . Always wondered why the heavy cast bullets molds weren't available for the 223 .
I find seating cast bullets to just touch the lands is ideal for good accuracy, the bullet naturally centralizes itself to the bore and can also help keep velocity more uniform by having a more consistent ignition pressure. Its kind of a win-win situation all rolled into one :-)
Hi Elvis, New here. I just ordered the 77, about a week ago. They are slightly behind, so it hasn't shipped yet. I've been casting for years, using wheelweights. To harden the bullets, I usually drop them straight into water, to harden them. But, by baking them at 400°, that will probably anneal them. A guy from Europe, wrote an article on powdercoating, and he mentioned, requenching from the oven into water, to re-harden the bullets. I built a 10.5" pistol, with a .223 Wylde, 1:7 twist. The heavier, and longer bullet is supposed to stabilize better in the faster twist. The 55's are supposed to be great for 1:9's. Currently loading 62's, over 23.5 gn. of BL-C(2). Update: Chrono'd these 77's from my 10.5", they were running just a smidgen over 2000 fps. avg. My grandson had a 16", and his were clocking 2300. I had a small mishap, with some powdercoating. I was cooking some 124 gn. .356, and evidently overloaded my shelf. I stepped out of my garage for a few minutes, and when I came back, the shelf was on top of the elements. It melted some bullets together. What impressed me was some of the powdercoat was discolored, but the lead had melted out of the powdercoating, leaving a shriveled skin. Even the powdercoat, next to the elements survived. If I had any doubts about how tough this stuff is, they have been dispelled.
@@TrueMesa I can't remember the exact color. It's Ceracoat, and is red. It comes out a bit darker than I thought, so you might want to consider that, when ordering. I'll look tomorrow. How many cavities did you get? I went with the 5 cavity. You can cast a buttload of bullets, once you get in the groove. I'm waiting on my temp sensor, for a PID controller. The first one didn't work right. But, I cast about 800 the other day.
@@TrueMesa I'm using 23.9 gns. of BL-C(2). OAL is 2.25". 2.26" is max length, to fit a magazine. I had some 88's, that were Hornady ELD's. To get them under the 2.26", and to be able to crimp them, I had to trim the plastic tips off. Otherwise, the bullet could fall back into the case. If you had a bolt gun, I think you could probably load these with longer OAL. The magazine is the big determinate here.
@@battalion151R thanks very much for the info. I wonder if @elvisammo ever made a good load with these. Over at castboolits miha is making a group buy of some nice 223 molds also not sure if u have seen them.
Hey Elvis, just ordered one tonight. I've had great luck with the Lee 55 grainers and a "plinking load" with 17.4 grains of IMR4198 at 2500 FPS. I can ring an 8" plate at 100-yards no problem. Looking for this mold to get me some additional accuracy and hitting power
Elvis: I was wondering if you had taken a Lee 223 mold and reamed it out to get rid of the groves and gas trap area to increase the bullet weight. If so what weight does the bullet end up at? Seems like it may add several grains of lead and shoot well if powder coated? I'm always looking for the low cost yet good ways to make ammo.
hey Elvis hey. first off I am 78 year old ex vet and learning a lot from you. started pc just because of you. thanks. have you any test data on the 61 Elvis arsenal mold? would love to see a video on it.
Elvis, Johnny, Fortunecookie, You and another should coordinate all your tests together and Make a Video Book like the one that Fortunecookie and I did. That way a viewer can bounce around from all the video content of one book on the subject, Idk if Cookie has a AR though or a Mini 14, He does have a PSP Remington in .223, However I feel that the twist rate may be too slow in that rifle or a mini 14. Dave.
Placed a order for this mold and the 61gr mold. Did you ever get it flying good ? Never saw a update. Love the videos and your information is pure gold!!!
Today I went and fired 10 rounds with 18 gr of reloaded 15. Did not have any problem with pressure that I know of. Can't wait to shoot 50 eds next. No problem with my m&p 1 in 9 twist
Hello fellow UA-camrs brothers and sisters. Any update on it’s performance? Accuracy? Reliability (do the bullets feed)? Speeds? Gas Checks or not? Im interested in this mold.
Good work, Elvis! My mini 14 seems to like heavier bullets, and .223 better than 5.56. I'll be watching for sure. I think you should get reloader dude, johnny's reloading bench and fortune cookie all in on this project. You could all focus on different powders and loads. This is gonna be big time fun! And don't wait so long between videos. We all thought you got arrested or something.
Just got a lower complete and a BCA upper coming soon I have decided to make the leap into the ar platform I'm starting out with a 5.56/223 but the upper I'm buying is chambered for 5.56 NATO so I'll be able to use 223 and not have to risk my face amd hands going with a cheaper upper amd risking blowing it up with a 5.56 lol now I got another reason to be on this chamnel. I found the elvis mold online but haven't bought it yet...something I wamt to ask ya Elvis, are buying gas checks really that important for 5.56 cast boolits? If they are what do they do for cast rounds?
I purchased one of these molds a few months back. I have been playing with my suppressor that I finally was able to pick up from the dealer. I am thinking of trying some of these with Trail Boss for a subsonic to shoot in my bolt gun. Have you done anything more with this bullet?
Hey Elvis. I had bought the 61 grain mold with decent plinking load results. How did the shooting with this 77 g mold go? Recipes? Sizing details and what not? Very curious to see your end results.
Hey Elvis! Was noticing yesterday that you had a longer pause than usual between vids. Did have thoughts about a possible "Daniel Boom", but then I thought "No, he's just busy". 😊 I was looking for a conical bullet for my 1863 Remington. Recommendation for 0.321 diameter, and while I was finding that in round ball, conical was non-existent. Spoke with Jared at Arsenal Molds because of your recommendation, and two emails later, design was finished. I'm very pleased. Arsenal did this without a separate setup charge like all the others do, and their work is beautiful. I second your recommendation. Regarding your new bullet, I Second offering Johnny @ JRB, and Fortune Cookie the opportunity to test them out along with you. Loads of Bacon might be interested too. I'd be interested in the results.😊
thats awesome Kirk Boswell! Glad you done business with Arsenal Molds! You just can't beat that deal! fine folks to work with... : ) It's funny the last thing people seen me do is A KEG OF BLACK POWDER! Uncle Jim.... AKA Daniel BOOM... : )
And 2 years later I ordered the 5 cavity 225-77 Elvis mold for my 7 inch twist AR-15 and it looks nothing like the bullets he show us here! It's plain, with no lube grooves or any gas check rebate on the bottom, just a slab sided bullet!
Elvis, I'm sure you've said this before, but with powder coating is there a need to gas check? I'm newer to casting and want to make sure I'm doing the right thing...thx
Hey James Ford.. There is still a debate going on the subject for good reason. Some folks have better accuracy with one bullet or another in one rifle or another... If your having trouble this is something to consider testing. As for me I almost never use them. Even at higher velocity. I dont like to say i'll never use them because if I was to test one that was drastically improved by checks I might use them. Hope this helps ya!
Mar 2019, so a little late, but I just read in a book that said putting the bullet bottom below the brass neck area tends to cause melting of the lead as it exposes the lead bullet to more heat from all angles rather than just the bottom surface.
Hey Buddy.. That's one big bullet for the .223 or 5.56X45. You are on the right track though. The one thing I know is The bench rests shooters almost always touch the lands and groves with their bullets Or 90 % of them. also, Hardness, I wouldn't worry too much because of the alloy is at around 16 BHN and if you allow them to season (Age) they will get harder with time. I don't have a recommendation for loading as I have always shot Jacketed bullets in my NM AR, It has an extremely tight chamber and my loading has been V.V N-133, N135, N-140 for my match loads. It does sound like you are off to a great start with lots of barring surface and flat nose and also those guys at Arsenal molds do a fantastic job over there. wish I could be more help. Dave.
Hey Thorsaxe777... Thanks for the info as usual.. Glad you also have good experience with Arsenal Molds! can't wait to see where all this goes! Thanks again my friend! : )
To Elvis Ammo,When you made the 300 Blk 312,160 grain bullets you sized down to .309. Did you do it before powder coat or after? Did you use alox if you sized before and if so how did you clean before powder coat?
Hey Mike Bridges... I powdercoated Then sized to 309 If ya find it hard to run them through the sizer you can swirl the bullets around in a little sizing lube lube first! Hope this helps.....
Awesome stuff right there! The way I see it, you have the Hornady way, Lyman way then you have the "ELVIS WAY" Me personally I would sooner have it the ELVIS WAY everytime :) I cant wait to see the results for these M&M's. Nicely done my friend!! Take Care and aim straight!
for a slower bullet I would start with 23 gr of 748 and it should but you around 40000 cup and for faster loads I would go with 24 gr of varget should put you at 44000 to 44500 cup that should give you enough leeway on the bullet touching when I was studding eternal ballistics the spike is there for the bullet touching but not as high as some would think with the bh being that soft it might jump a 1000 to 1500 cup but I wouldn't see it going much more than that
Hey Elvis, I have a Lee 45 cal 452-160-RF Double Cavity mold and would like to get a 6 cavity. Unfortunately Lee would charge to much for a one off. You need an order of 30 units to avoid the tooling costs ( $175.00 ). Could Arsenal Molds make this without all the tech drawings of a mold description ? Would you know the approximate cost ?
Elvis, I've looked through some of the comments, and can't find any data on loading these powdercoated bullets. Are they loaded out, as jacketed bullets? Thanks!
Concerning your question on seating these bullets too deep: I remember watching a video where these guys were loading bullets backward in a bottle neck cartridge. the bullets had to be seated reaaaaaly deep just to they could be held in place by the neck of the brass. there was an issue with the fired cartridges having severe splitting down the neck. My theory on what happened is the gas is trying to escape but, because it wasn't able to propel the bullet by pushing against the base of the bullet the gas cut around the bullet and split the neck. Granted these were full powered loads with jacketed bullets. If you stay safe and start low you should be good. I predict you will see the necks split before you do something like blowing out a primer or rupturing the body of the case. Hope this helps elvis. ua-cam.com/video/AZAyhv0xqUI/v-deo.html link to the backward bullet video.
Great video, I like the out of box thinking. Did you have to size the bullet after powder coating with this new bullet? I believe you size everything, just didn't want to assume you did.
hey there mr Harleychromeman ...... Yeah I size most of my bullets and these I sized for sure, after powder coating... thanks again.. been wanting a mold like this for a while!
am I missing something... why is this bullet longer? aren't all 223 bullets standard size? or? if this bullet is longer it will occupy more space inside the case am I right? also if this bullet is longer then it will have better aerodynamics? and last question ..are all 77gr bullets of same long size? and one last additional question...I see it's nose is flat, what if the Bose would be sharp almost as needle? I mean the billet is long already and has enough body so that allows to make a sharper nose...would it make ballistic even more accurate and give more penetration?
seating depth will be fine all my heavy 308 cast bullets do that and as far as touching rifling i get the best accuracy that way. just my experiance. supper stoked about the bullet
The only problem is that is you chose to eject a non fired round you could have issues with the bullet sticking in the chamber throats while the case ejects. It happened to me. I have had to reduce the OAL
So what;s the good word? Get em to fly yet?? Inquireing minds want to know! Time for an update my friend. I'm looking for a good deer bullet and this one has potential!
That is what I thought. Building a .3ooBLK here in the next few weeks so between you and Johnny, it should be fairly easy to get a good baseline set up from you two. Great info Elvis. I am having a blast watching. I'll post more on Bullets for freedom as time permits.
I just got on their website and ordered one. The 5 cavity is less money than the 4 ? I did not ask for your bullets (cool idea) because all I will be shooting them in is a Ruger Mini 14. Not as fussy as a AR-15 and not as accurate I am told. My only AR-15 is in the house for home defense and I do not "play with it" its my Colt from 1960 and it only gets factory ammo. So it would not be a good comparison I do not think. I have almost all the parts to build a barn Ar-15 in 223 (I have one out here in 300 BLK Out) just have not gotten around to it yet. (playing with a couple M1 30 Carbines I got my hands on. They are now eating powder coated cast just fine) I checked Hodgens website and I was happy to see load data for the 77 gr bullets (not cast of course but its a place to start). I will be watching how you progress with this bullet. Thanks for another great video!
Hey Barn Dweller... Thats awsome! You'll have to do a video on the results.... And let us know the alloy you use as well! Happy shooting to ya my friend... : )
I'd like to get the .38/.357 158gr Kieth SWC in a straight sided design for powder coating and keeping the crimping band. If you are interested I'll team up with anyone who is.

Elvis I just ordered the mould for the 77 grain have you dialed in any powder combinations lately
As usual, great video! You answered most of the questions I had. I would love to test a few.
What made you decide to put lube grooves in it? Very interested to see how they shoot!
hey edstimator1... from my experience a large bullet like this, almost a bore rider. Can increase pressure. That was the thinking! good question!
Hay my brother . Being from New Jersey , I'm disqualified and unqualified. I'll just keep watching and looking for the results.very nice . Thanks
Hey my Brother Nick L ... we gotta get jersey Back on the US Constitution! Good to have ya in the audience !!!
I've been casting 223 for several months and have a good recipe using the Lee mold. I'm interested in trying your new pills.
hey Old Ager... wow... so many takers on the 77 gr bullet test! thats awesome! I'll take a couple days to scratch my head! : )
I would love to give it a go.Are there any other specific tests or parameters you'd like to test.
Hey Dave Denison... Thanks for your interest as well... pretty much just looking to find a decent few loads share and compare! : )
sounds great, I'll give you my address on facebook messenger. let me know if you want some help with shipping?
Hey Elvis. I had bought the 61 grain mold with decent plinking load results. How did the shooting with this 77 g mold go? Recipes? Sizing details and what not? Very curious to see your end results.
I got a Question I hadn't considered until now, can zinc bullets be shot without powder coat jackets?
Hey Elvis! Was noticing yesterday that you had a longer pause than usual between vids. Did have thoughts about a possible "Daniel Boom", but then I thought "No, he's just busy". 😊
I was looking for a conical bullet for my 1863 Remington.
What mold was the best. Best group
Mar 2019, so a little late, but I just read in a book that said putting the bullet bottom below the brass neck area tends to cause melting of the lead as it exposes the lead bullet to more heat from all angles rather than just the bottom surface.
Cool mold. Congrats.
We miss you, sir
Just ordered this mold and I am going to size and lube them the classic way. Do you have som loading data for these bullets?
How did your experimentation turn out?
Thanks Smokepole! Thanks for tuning in! : )
for a slower bullet I would start with 23 gr of 748 and it should but you around 40000 cup and for faster loads I would go with 24 gr of varget should put you at 44000 to 44500 cup that should give you enough leeway on the bullet touching when I was studding eternal ballistics the spike is there for the bullet touching but not as high as some would think with the bh being that soft it might jump a 1000 to 1500 cup but I wouldn't see it going much more than that
Is the distance long on this bullet than the regular 223 bullet
hey CHOPPA CITY... it's about the same length as a 62 gr 223 bullet ... just stays fatter longer...
Needless to say I will be following your progress on this one. LOL
Thanks Papa's Place... this will be fun!
@@elvisammo I sure wish that billet was gas checked...
How is the bullet performing for you? What kind if velocity and accuracy are you getting?
Hey Elvis, I have a Lee 45 cal 452-160-RF Double Cavity mold and would like to get a 6 cavity. Unfortunately Lee would charge to much for a one off. You need an order of 30 units to avoid the tooling costs ( $175.00 ). Could Arsenal Molds make this without all the tech drawings of a mold description ? Would you know the approximate cost ?
Hey Nick J... Yes.. If You Have the bullet, You just send them one .. Done! Let me know how it goes?
Thanks, will do :-)
Elvis you really need to get back to putting out these videos man. Upstate SC you are welcome to come talk casting shooting anytime
Elvis,
I've looked through some of the comments, and can't find any data on loading these powdercoated bullets. Are they loaded out, as jacketed bullets? Thanks!
Wonder what happened to ammosmith he'd be great to test them
send some to jonnys reloading bench.. I think he would be a great person to do testing..
hey ordinanceconcernedamerican....we have quite a few votes for sending Johnny some bullets! : )
Hell yeah id love to test some but probably will just wait til mold is for sale or jrb does a vid
75 grain sirroco 2 bullit loaded to 2.255 woks fine . this coal was recommended by the swift rep. bullit length is 1.078
what is the max velocity you can shoot these at since they are cast? new to cast rifle bullets'
I would love to help out in some tests. I have barrel lengths in 7.5 10.5 16 and 18. and 1/7, 1/8, and 1/9 let me know if I could help.
seating depth will be fine all my heavy 308 cast bullets do that and as far as touching rifling i get the best accuracy that way. just my experiance. supper stoked about the bullet
thanks the baddest! Some folks are not gonna like it touching as you know... Always looking for any trouble signs! thats how ya do it safely!
elvis ammo are they goin to have this mold for sale also. id like a 5 cavity with with 3 plain base and 2 gas checked
As far as seating depth. My 75 Boat Tail match Bullets the Boat Tail sits about that far in the case maybe a bit farther out
Hey West Desert Shooter... Was wondering what kind of feed back i'd get on the subject.. Thanks for contributing !!!
Comparing the two bullets how many grains was the Lee? 55? Sorry I didn't catch that if you mentioned it.
hey Carpe Diem... the lee drops around 55 grains and the Arsenal drops around 77 grains...
What kind of accuracy are you getting
Sweet!
hey josephhomen... Sweet M&Ms... Mini Missiles! : )
Real quick question,
what are you setting for your OAL on .223 cast round. Specifically the 55 gn Lee .224 cast.
Hey Bullets for Freedom... I use 2.100 OAL w/the lee 224 55 gr. In my rifle... Thanks for watching!
That is what I thought. Building a .3ooBLK here in the next few weeks so between you and Johnny, it should be fairly easy to get a good baseline set up from you two. Great info Elvis. I am having a blast watching. I'll post more on Bullets for freedom as time permits.
I didn't even know they made molds.
They make some nice stuff Matt Lord!
put a boat tail on that bullet .that will give you more surfas for the pressure to get the bullet moving sooner.
They are now eating powder coated cast just fine)
I checked Hodgens website and I was happy to see load data for the 77 gr bullets (not cast of course but its a place to start). I will be watching how you progress with this bullet.
Thanks for another great video!
Hey Barn Dweller... Thats awsome! You'll have to do a video on the results.... And let us know the alloy you use as well! Happy shooting to ya my friend... : )
If you water quench in cold water will it give a higher BHN?
hey Brody Hatina.. yes it will certainly increase your bhn. a bit!
elvis ammo, ok cool, thnx Elvis, great videos keep em comin!!
What hardness are you running on these bullets? Im toying with the idea of casting for 223.
I've run em 12 bhn and up .. with decent results. My normal is around 18- 21
Does anyone know where to reach Elvis?
Send me some. I will see if I can blow something up. LOL.
I am interested in the mold. where may I purchase one?
can u copper coat them after sizeing ?
Hey elvis what bnh ate you using for 223?? thx again. keep up the good work
Hey Danny Tapia.. these would have been around 20 or so. Until I added 5 percent pewter it come down to around 15 bhn.
How can i get this bullet stable? Using vihtavouri N140 in a Mini 14 with a 9 inch twist
Your twist rate is probably too slow. 1:9 is generally good to 69 grain.
Is there any available coupon codes for arsenal molds?
Ever get that bench test data?
I'd like to get the .38/.357 158gr Kieth SWC in a straight sided design for powder coating and keeping the crimping band. If you are interested I'll team up with anyone who is.
Hey Ozark Spirit... you know Arsenal Molds can make you one those no problem... A lot cheaper than ya think!
elvis ammo they are on point with introducing bullets for coating. I'd like to have one with the crimp groove in it so as not to deform the lead.
I have their Keith bullet.... Very Nice!
i would make the oal longer in my opinion with the softer lead 2.2+
Hey Robert Renta I will be playing around with the OAL. for sure... Thanks for the input!
i wonder if a 1/9 will stabilize it
hey Chuck Finley... My 1 in 8 does! stay tuned maybe one of the testers will try it in a 1 in 9....
Are there any molds that go higher than 77 gains for 5.56
GLOCK 17 ...won't be by much.. it may be close to the max for a semi auto to feed and fit the mag. you might get a little bit more in a bolt.
Are you referring to a "bore rider" design?
hey Bill Gentry ... This may be closer to a bore rider design, I was kinda going for a hybrid...
Cool!
Hey M.T.L. Cool for sure! Stay Cool! : )
Can u please send me one I’ve been trying to find one I just started reloading :(
I was actually going to jokingly ask if I could borrow some! Lol
hey Kyle lusk... thats funny! Little did ya know I was gonna offer some out! I have some choices to make! : )
Added you on Facebook and sent you a Facebook messenger message
and can u have them make a 90 grain
I'll try some in my single shot rifle
I wouldnt mind helping out the channel with some load info
cool deal. I do like the name Minnie Missiles. Take care brother.
Thanks Rodney Hardee ...we'll call em M&Ms....: )
