Thank you for having guests that are not just in their 20s.
30 - 40 year olds are the best information and perspective for me
Paying 40 grand for your own wedding is ludicrous
Weddings in the US are very expensive indeed !
Romain, you should have showed Chelsea how long it would take to pay off that expense for every hour of the party. Example: If the wedding lasted 5 hours including the reception, she would be making payments for "x" months for every hour of partying. I will never, ever, ever understand the logic behind spending what could have been a down payment for a house on a party that lasts 5 hours and for a dress that would only be worn one time. I guess, if we all think about it, a wedding is a horrible, wasted expense and does nothing to help the couple get financially ready for their long marriage. Would any of us pay $40k for a car that we drove around for 5 hours and had to give it back? No. Just elope, people. And put the wedding fund towards something that will grow in value.
Normalize eloping! We eloped and put a massive down payment on our home instead of wasting it on a wedding.
City hall babe 😂❤
She makes a lot excuses and bad decision with money. She consumes without consequences. Remember she has mentioned that her mom helped her pay for the wedding, so her wedding was higher than 40k. Plus the 4600$ for a honeymoon.
I appreciate how calmly but emphatically you tell her the truth.
Thank you! I hope you will check out our coming video this Tuesday :)
I love how she uses the ADHD/Autism thing as an excuse for a stupid car purchase. My word, what happened with overcoming adversity rather than making it your whole identity?
I was literally just thinking this
Yes, my daughter is on the spectrum and so far is very frugal. Mental note that something like this could happen.
She is not autistic or ADHD, it's a self diagnosis.
Indeed
@@TrueWalker88 I would agree. I don't see either traits in her interview. And honestly, having extra distractions like flashing indicators on your side mirrors would only distract you more if adhd and annoy you more is autistic.
I like this channel a lot! Every person that is on UA-cam has influence from other creators. I found Caleb when binge watching Dave Ramsey, and found Romain when binge watching Caleb.
Realistically, the more awareness of debt the better. Our society is in such a bad place financially. My husband and I just paid off $186,000 of debt, and it feels amazing to finally be free of that huge burden. I wish I had been more aware of how hard it would be to pay back when I was taking out 100k in student loans and putting music festivals on credit cards and financing everything else.
To everyone trying to get out of a hole right now - you can do it! Fight past needless consumerism and you will reap the rewards later!
Congratulations on that debt repayment ! Impressive 👍 welcome on board :)
Same! I binged Ramsey, found Caleb, found Ramit and now I’m bingeing Romain. Love it !
Her justification for spending is impulsive and is why she will continue to stay in debt. I have little faith she will change her spending habits.
It is true that not cancelling this darn Cruise is not the best decision in her case. I have followed up with Chelsea in the recent weeks and she is definitely taking action, however will that be enough ? Time will tell 👍
Agree. She had an excuse for everything. That's means they'll continue finding excuses.
I dont think ive ever heard anyone with such a flippant approach to debt. She has so many excuses and justifications for everything. Its hard to see her being able to change her financial habits without also looking at how she explains everything away. I did watch the update video and it looks like she made some positive changes but her explanation for not cancelling the cruise or downgrading the room auggest that she still has the same attitude of justification.
There is only so much I could push on Chelsea, and I knew I wasn't going to win on the cruise, BUT since our discussion she has started to pay back some DEBT!
This is my favorite UA-cam finance channel. I enjoy watching Ramsey and Caleb hammer, but I don’t always feel like how they talked to guest would be considered tough love. They get condescending and talk down to their guests. This is a really effective podcast because it’s more considerate to the guests and not just shaming them.
92% of guests who have come to the show have improved their financial situation within the next couple of months of coming to the show! I am a true believer that I should not judge the past, but instead understand the underlying drivers that brought to those bad decisions. And if I am here shaming the guests, they just won't tell me what I need to know to provide the most appropriate recommendations!

@@itsRomainFaureyes indeed
Dave is getting sued & in the lawsuit we find out he put a loaded gun on the table at a staff meeting and referred to a pregnant employee as an inconvenience. F Dave Ramsey.
@@itsRomainFaure I fully agree with your approach. I think it is very effective.
It shocked me when you mentioned she wants to retire at 45...with an IRA of $25k and a debt of $176k with a projected $130k income, she cant afford her current lifestyle, so how would it be possible to afford it without any income? 😅 I hope your conversation has helped her realize that she needs to reconsider her financial situation and impulsive spending. I also deal with mental health issues so I get how those can factor into the situation, but it's still up to the individual to find ways to accomodate their conditions so they can move forward in a healthy way (having a visual representation of the debt, for example, sounds like a good solution in this case.) I hope she is able to put the recommendations into action to improve her situation.
Thank you for sharing insights into your story. I very much agree with your assessment, and I recommend you watch the follow up video we did with Chelsea, here is the link, ua-cam.com/video/Q1siTDU06LU/v-deo.htmlsi=p6oogftgobAxlLaW you will see what she has done 3 months after our initial interaction.
This is what delusional looks like😮
She is an absolute mess…does not live in reality. She will be broke, fat, divorced, and living with her cat off of Social Security, that’s it.
She’ll be lucky to retire at 67
I'm from North Africa and recently immigrated to Canada. Your show is helping me understand better how North Americans end up in such dire situations, which was a real headscratcher to me.
Thank you for trusting me with your time :)
This channel reminds me of Caleb’s which isn’t a bad thing! I would love to see more financial audit type shows, and I’m glad that you started one. We need more Dave Ramseys without all the political garbage. You are doing a great service to millennials and gen z.
We need more political views. Democrats caused thus inflation.
@@lot2196 Did Democrats cause inflation in the rest of the world (which by the way have not recovered as well as we have)? Who was president when the $2.2 trillion stimulus bill (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) passed in March 2020?
Lmao "Democrats caused this inflation." That's hilarious. It's a global phenomenon from the pandemic. The entire world is experiencing high inflation and it's actually lowest in America. Let's think about this a little maybe...
Why do people think vacations are necessary when they are sinking in debt ? This woman shocks me the way she has so many excuses and is laughing along the way
I hope you had the chance to check out her update video!
Justifying every bad decison
Check out her update video, you will be surprised :)
Wow. We just live in a really entitled generation. I got married in my dad’s living room. My uncle officiated. Not my idea of a dream wedding. But we did it and it was beautiful. We didn’t have a honeymoon. We are coming up on 10 years married next month. We have never taken a fancy vacation. I wouldn’t dream of taking out debt with high interest to go on Vacation. 😳 don’t get me wrong. It’s definitely something we are saving for. It’s my dream to go on a cruise. But saved for and cash flowed.
It is all about balance, and I am hoping that one day you can take that dream vacation! Check her update in the other video :)
Very good video! The set looks professional and nicely decorated, i liked the layout of the video, and I like the money case as it not only interesting to see as a viewer, but really shows the guest the impact of their financial choices! Can’t wait to see more of these!
Thank you for the kind words! I am excited for what is to come!
Hey nice another financial channel i can follow. Love that it looks like you’re putting effort making quality content looking forward to more videos 👍🏽
You are an OG 👍 thanks for being here mate. Yes we are really taking a shot at value content with many more stories coming up :)
Chels lives in a cartoon!! 😅😅 31:03
If you want to get rich you have to be comfortable with the word ‘No’
Honey if you want to retire at 45, take the standard room on that cruise. 😂
Or just don’t go to the cruise :)
At the very least!
Found your channel this morning. Super stoked to binge your videos!
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome on board!
I really hope she is able to get out of this financial mess but I have my doubts. Lots of strange excuses and spending. $40,000 for a wedding not including the honeymoon which is another $4,600? Even with 100 guests at $100 per person, that's $10,000. Most of the other wedding expenses, cake, flowers, photos, entertainment, favors, service could certainly be done on a very modest scale. RE: the $55K in student loan debt, does any really think that the taxpayers should bailout these loans with such irresponsible money management?
You should also check her update video :)
I did, glad to see some improvements but going on a $5,000 trip seemed extravagant. hoping for the best. @@itsRomainFaure
Eleven credit cards| $40k for the wedding absolutely ridiculous. 😂😂
Yep it’s tough :( I hope you had the chance to check our most recent video with her update !
Her F it moments are F*ing up her finances lol
My mom is like that…!
Check out her update in the newly released video :)
Best thing to do is stay in that Caleb hammer niche. It’s obvious if u continue on this style video rout you’ll pop off
What do you think of the money case and structure ? :)
@@itsRomainFaure I liked the structure of assets / incomes then debt / expenses. It's similar to making a person balance sheet / income statement
@@jamesmar614 thanks James - I try to make it easy to follow. I am glad you noticed the structure 👌
I would like to see a more in-depth recommendation of your proposal and total time taken to pay off the 176k at current rate vs proposed
@@jamesmar614 I am using a Debt Avalanche strategy, which involves making minimum payments on all debt, then using any extra funds to pay off the debt with the highest interest rate. What do you mean by current rate vs. proposed sorry?
This is better than Caleb. Caleb is lowkey an AH nowadays
Different styles for sure!
High key
You are too civil. No yelling, no going crazy. No drama 😂
Is it always necessary though?
Keep it that way! The guest stories are all the drama necessary. No need for host theatrical yelling.
This guy is professional and courteous. I think it's refreshing to see a UA-cam channel that's NOT like Caleb Hammer. There's no need to humiliate people for making bad decisions. I like how Romain explained that each day on that cruise will take her a month to pay it off. I hope she watches this episode over and over to see her errors.
Definitely a nicer tactic than Dave Ramsey calling people stupid, etc.. most people know already that they're stupid and do need someone saying it to their face!
@@jordandowland7256agree! I like Caleb too but like this more reasonable approach to discussing finances. No need for more yelling and drama.
176k debt... 1k savings per month.. hmmm.. divide 12 is 14.5 years!!!! 2-3 years in, she will say f it.. i will never do it and rack it all up again.
Correct if thinking this way - however my calculation accounts for the progressive re-assignment of low debt savings to pay back debt. Additionally, this would not include the current student loan situation.
Chelsea is the typical "entitled" young person. Unfreakingbelievable.
I love how she justifies a suite when she's completely destroyed herself with debt. She should rip up all her cc's and just work on paying them off and never use debt again.
Check out the coming video this Tuesday :)
This is great! I needed a new financial channel to binge. I did the same thing with a friend recently who went on a holiday they couldn't afford, I calculated the compound interest on the cost of it. It was quite the wake up call for them to know that its cost them so much in retirement. I love using that technique when I'm considering a purchase.
We are just getting started ! Awesome to have you on board 🤩

WOW, half way in and it is AMAZING!!!
Thank you for the kind remark 👍 what do you find most interesting about it ?
30:26 she could try to downgrade to a cheaper room. She would at least owe less interest. Basic room is not that bad because when you think about it, you’re not gonna be there all day anyways. That’s one way to think of it as well.
Check out the follow up video ! Will she downgrade ? 😉
Gotta love this guy’s energetic personality 😊
I love to hear that Adrian ! Let’s go :)
@@itsRomainFaureI really needed this video. I also struggle with ADHD and has made even my own ambitions very difficult like making my own UA-cam show. People forget that it’s very similar to autism. My finances got screwed really bad last year because I had a very hard time focusing. Now, I’m on a plan to get back on track. I’m 31 and because of you and Caleb Hammer I have hope that I can be financially stable. One day I will succeed. Thanks for your inspiration. 🙏🏾
@@adriandeltoro4640 Thank you for sharing your Story Adrian ! If you are interested we actually did a follow up video with Chelsea during which she highlights some of the strategies she has adopted to improve her finances ! It’s available on the home page of the channel 👍 I see you there :)
I like your rating scale with emotions rather than a number.
Way to highlight her emergencies. Which is what normally happens, that cause people to get in these financial situations.
Thank you for the commentary 👍 yes indeed we wanted to have a scale around feelings rather than pure math. How would you rate yourself ? :)
@@itsRomainFaure honestly, I rate myself as yikes as well. I'm not where I want to be and I do not want to be thinking comfortably, sitting at anything better than "Surviving" or how I may reword it as "Content," because I believe that would make be stagnant with wanting to be better, financially.
But I don't want to rate myself the worst MAYDAY, because I believe that also could incur me to make bad decisions because I'm panicking.

ADHD (Executive decision-making issues), Autism, Object Permanence issues (after a few months of age...), 4 tendencies, ok, I get it. But we've got to get over all of the excuses she gives them both!

Object permanence can appear in adhd individuals, but is not really a trait of autism.
Coming from Caleb’s channel you really know how to keep your cool with absolutely stupidity 😅😂😂 love the assets part with the income and the money case!
Thanks for the kind words - If you liked this video I hope you will enjoy the one coming out this Tuesday :)

It's amazing how some adults can have less discipline than the average 7 year old. They just can't resist instant gratification.
I encourage you to check out her update video that we recently released!
Backwards thermometer? The number on a thermometer can go up or down.
Love it! Glad to have more content in this genre. I love Caleb Hammer and eill continue to watch all of his videos, but I feel like I need to watch a variety of show "hosts". I know a lot of people don't like seeing episodes of people who are not in shocking debt situations, but I'd love to see the occasional guest that is doing alright but looking to optimize their savings/investments for their situation and alternative retirement schedules/strategies!
Thanks for the feedback, spot on, we have this specific content coming up shortly 👍 I do also like that variety component where is not just people struggling with massive debt
Me, over here driving my 2008 Toyota Yaris without working AC for the last 3yrs in a state where it gets to be 90s with avg humidity in the 70% range (like Hawaii), daydreaming about a Rav4 with AC seats. But I'll buy it used in cash only when this car craps out. Maybe I'll spoil myself in 4-5yrs.
Caleb Hammer Jr. 😂
Not the same line up
I am an idiot with money...let's find a syndrome that excuses that....oh, how about ADHD...great, for a moment I thought that it was my responsibility....
Check out one of my most recent videos - it has three levels of update on Chelsea’s situation !
To have 40k total assets for 2x people in their 30's is pretty terrible imo. And obviously net they're deep in the hole. She needs to realize that she's throwing away years of their lives with the spending.
11 cards, insane!

If she doesn't get it together, she will be broke by 60. Perhaps she is counting on inheritance for the future.

And I thought my little debt was bad! Smh 11 credit cards 😮
Check out her update video- we had her come back a second time to let us know what happened :)
Great stuff. Your channel will blow up like Caleb’s. You know what would be cool, setting up a goal for someone then rewarding them for hitting that goal. (As you grow and make more $$ with UA-cam this will be more feasible)
Some couples would be nice too, like Ramit does
Noted ! You should check out Chelsea’s follow up video 3 months after 😁. Yes I have some ideas with a reward system, and it might not have to be financial based. Food for thoughts :) thanks for your comment Marco

Im in Canada and groceries are ridiculous but there are options. This is the second guest youve had who said they shop at Trader Joes because its cheaper. Is that true? I always thought Tradee Joes was expensive
Trade Joes is EXPENSIVE, but it is by far not the worst. I recommend Grocery Outlets!
I also thought it was an expensive place, but when I went there I was surprised. However, you can do better as Romain says.
Great reasons on why she has credit card debt - Covid, car stolen, haven’t been on vacation, etc. Great choices!

It’s frustrates me the way these people laugh and chuckle when address their poor financial decisions.
I hear you, I try to create a positive environment as personal finance can be a sensitive subject. My goal at the end of our discussion is for them to leave with a recommended path. Now informed, it is on them to take appropriate action.
Follower #543! I love these personal finance videos 😅
Welcome! Thank you
@romainfaure please, please explain to people why getting an income tax refund really should not be a goal. I think contributing extra money to a tax free investment account is a better goal. Stop giving the IRS a tax free loan!!!!
Correct my recommendation when running your own business is to contribute a portion of your TOP LINE (aka. revenue), not PROFIT to a Tax Account, I like High Yield Saving Accounts and keep that money until tax are dues (either on a Quarterly or Yearly basis, depending on your type of business).
What cards did she use to transfer debt with 0% transfer fees and interest in the first year 😅??
There are many available, I am not sure about the one she used :( however I still recommend paying those credit card debts 😉
She seems to think she *has* to do certain things no matter what and it's ok to put them on credit?
I am sickened by how frivolously this gal lives. The rest of us will be left to clean up her mess, whether it is an unplanned pregnancy, she gets sick, etc.
If she can’t see the idiocy in the “honeymoon”, then the honeymoon is well and surely over. Life isn’t easy, but with thought and planning, it doesn’t need to be a train wreck. She needs a serious reality check.
I encourage you to check out her update video as well :)
She is not fully feeling the gravity of her situation. People of ADHD and autism tend to be very visual. Colored graphs, charts, etc would be a great help in having reminders and keeping track of finances. Great recommendation Romain.

I think she needs to grow up just a little bit! I haven't been on a vacation or basically away from my house in almost 13 years since my husband died if they wanted a honeymoon they could have done it for a quarter of the price and still had a nice time without running up debt and spending all that extra interest on it!

It seems she has object permanence backwards. That's a stage where babies learn that even though you can't see something, it's still there. (Or I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure she is.)
Always nice when Psych 101 turns out to be useful decades later!
I didn’t have the class in France :( haha
How do these people sleep?
I think ppl are judging Chelsea too harshly. She went through a lot of stuff that made her want to embrace life a bit harder. Just so happen those things cost. I can see she is trying to fix it and is serious about it. I think they can do it
