To any Starbucks partners looking for more hours: Ask around and see if there’s a group chat or something similar for baristas and SSVs in your area to exchange hours or look for coverage. You can also ask your manager to borrow you over to other stores based on your availability and other stores’ needs. To add to this, you get mileage too for covering shifts at other stores so it helps pay for gas if you have to travel if you live in an area that have one Starbucks a town like where I'm at.
I worked at Starbucks in high school and had a coworker who went on extremely lavish vacations 3-4 times a year. He’d travel all by himself most times too. After I quit, he eventually confessed to me that he has to file for bankruptcy from all the credit card debt he racked up during these trips. Then covid happened and nobody could travel. But now that countries are opening back up, he’s traveling again! And he still works at Starbucks!! 🤔
Sounds like he traveled for free at Visas expense. Winning. The only downside is if you planned on buying a house within 7 years, but that's impossible in most places without generational wealth these days.
Everyone saying Caleb is being too harsh are missing the point. If he carries on like this for the next couple of decades he won’t be in a good place. I wish someone had had this chat with me when I was 21!
Exactly, he is harsh, and hard on people because he needs to get them to understand how bad the debts they have and spending they do really is. Basically he needs to be harsh to get the American standard out of their head
I feel his frustration, hustling, but still falling victim to consumerism and also, not knowing what they want to do with their life yet :/ Wish you best of luck Tarean!!
He needs to check his insurance on this rent his car through an app adventure. I’m willing to bet his current insurance will not cover his car if a renter gets in an accident.
He sure does. The way he talks about the rental details are scary sounds like he HAS NO IDEA. N2m people getting pulled over for drugs or doing sketchy shit and getting noticed by police. Etc.
@@lawfullucyless6715 my first thought when I heard about this was thinking it's a trafficker wet dream, especially if you can falsify your identity through whatever cheesy app it probably uses and stolen credit accounts
@@SpoonHurler you are the mercy of the platform to prove to them and beg for money if anything happens. What if the renter plants drugs in your car - off you go jail on a quota arrest. And you can easily get stuck between two insurances refusing to pay you while you can be sued by anyone as the car owner.
That's why the app does. It works the same way for uber drivers. The uber policy becomes primary over their personal policy if the vehicle is impacted while in the course of using uber. And yes. Uber tracks everything about your activities and will let your insurance carrier know so you cannot lie about it. They track your speed down to the seconds and any sudden stops you may experience.
@@christopherbownes494 I doubt Uber will pay out on a car crash every single time.. they have every incentive to just drop the driver and advertise to get someone new with a new car. They can just refuse to pay because you or your mechanic haven’t submitted the right paperwork or whatever just like health insurance companies do
No way in hell I would let some random person drive my car. The potential issues with insurance and warranty is not worth it. I know how people treat rental cars.
I hope he doesn't write off food service management from possible career choices just because one person at Starbucks said he doesn't have leadership skills. Those can all be learned!
Caleb i have an idea: What if during these audits you model things on Excel (or something similar) like interest rates accruing on cc balances, depreciation over time on vehicles, retirement/savings funds, etc. I think you may have a greater affect on these guests if they SAW what bad financial decisions are costing them in the long term. Plus it’s really interesting to math nerds like myself haha
Caleb has me looking at my finances hearing “No we don’t do that you can’t afford it.” 😂 , I really appreciate these videos not only are they entertaining but they’ve helped me fix my budgeting and spends on unnecessary things. Thank you Caleb! 🙏🏾
I HATE the idea of letting people rent your car. We’re relying too much on someone else in that situation and are just one bad decision from the driver from having a destroyed car
@@dihs5246 the platform screws car owners just like Uber screws drivers.. drivers can destroy your car or just damage it and can commit crime while driving it.. and owners can screw you with illegitimate repair fees for scratches or whatever.
Agreed, there's a few old sayings about how people drive and treat rental vehicles and none of it is good. Never trust random strangers with your personal vehicle because more often than not things go south.
I really doubt he told his insurance that he is doing that. A 21 year old male already gets racked by insurance companies, if they knew he was loaning out his car, you bet they are going to really stick him. Unless, the car is owned by his company and he doesn’t use it personally. They will not pay you if someone else wrecks your car.
@@jackyack7850 these platforms business plan relies on new inexperienced people doing insurance fraud and taking on expensive car loans that they then gift the equity in that to the platform for the platform users to use at a discount.. that’s why they advertise to always get people to join and naively make the initial investment not realising the risks they are taking on for very little gain. Basically taking advantage of people not crunching the accounting numbers and not being aware of the legal language in their insurance policy.

He’s driving a $40k car, working at Starbucks. The loan is for a SECOND car -to rent to strangers through a phone app. Who rents cars through private parties? People who aren’t trustworthy enough to rent from a business.
If he does decide to go back to school, he should NOT quit Starbucks. They offer a great tuition reimbursement/assistance thru ASU that he can take advantage of especially if he only has a year or two left
I was a financial mess when I was 21. It took me another 15 years to figure it out so I am behind now in retirement savings. So happy Caleb exists to help these people when they are young adults. I wish someone like him existed when I was their age.
I don't think he realizes he is losing money with his car business because all he sees is the $400 going into his account rather than see the money lost in: 10% interest on loan, car maintenance-oil changes, tires, filters, fluids, brakes, etc. car insurance, Gas, Depreciation, Leaving himself open to risk of being scammed, And his lost time that could be spent on anything else.
Tough advice but necessary, Caleb is doing what I wished somebody told me years earlier to manage my finances. If these people take his advice seriously, they'll be in such a happier and better financial situation!
Your financial audits have changed my point of view when it comes to spending, and created a sense of urgency when it comes to the future. I've got a while to go to pay off my debts, but I'll always be thankful for helping me turn a new leaf!
Some of those eating out charges look way more then what one person could eat. Seems like a nice guy I hope his friends that call him up to go out aren’t doing so because he picks up the whole tab.
It’s easy to let happen. I had friends who did the same. Wasn’t always in bad intention either sometimes it’s self inflicted. Instead of everyone just paying their portion one person picks up the whole bill, then the next time out someone else does. But in the long run the nice guy finishes last and picks up more tabs.

Yea what he has going for him is his age. You can wise up and recover from this. I was the same way at 22 up to my nose in credit card debt I wised up by 27 and buckled down to pay it all off. So he has time on his side
Terian at 21 has a great start in the fact he has learned to pay off the Credit Card balances every month. So good of you Caleb to Hammer him on saving $$$$ now ! Car rental is not worth it. My first renter with Turo stole the car, had to go to his house with the police to repo it. He had also crashed the car on top of stealing it. Turo app would not help at all!
Out of the jobs he listed, data analysis might be a good avenue to pursue. I see a lot of job postings that at least require data analysis. Not cars, but he did say that he liked going over the specs, so kinda similar in that aspect
I love the no using the ATM unless you are using the allocating cash envelope method! Thank you I will use this habit from now on! It’s definitely easier to track spending when avoiding the ATM
This kid doesn’t need a financial audit, he needs a career. It’s not irresponsible that he decided to hold off on education until he picked a direction - it probably saved him from being in a big debt hole - but at some point he had to actually decide what he’s doing with his life and get off the pointless Starbucks and gig scheme cycle. A house at 25? Zero chance, but if he wants one at 30 it’s time for a job with actual prospects. It’s time to spend all his time figuring out what he can actually DO as a real, lucrative career and go in that direction,
He’s literally 21, most 21 year olds can barely find their backside at that age. I went to uni at 22 after years of deliberation but now, I’m 25 and still don’t even really know what I wanna do. I’m an RN but like, there’s so much I wanna do. You can’t expect a 21 y/o to have it all together. I think he can chill, work an okay job full time until he fully decides what he wants to do. No point in jumping in something and still being unsure if it’s for you. He’s a baby, can still live at home for a while if he wants

@@shadedwulf Because not every one is the same. It’s a big deal to commit to a career for the rest of your life (another 40/50 years) at 21 and the concept that you have to have it all together at that age is ridiculous too. If you don’t know what you want to do, explore, try different things in your 20s and see what interests you, or what you’re passionate about whilst your still young and have less responsibility. As long as you are working full time and paying your bills, then there’s nothing wrong with that. There is no positive in jumping into a industry/career and realising you hate it later on in life. That’s no bueno. Because then you may have responsibilities, kids, a family, mortgage. That’s in fact the worst time to take those risks and change careers 💕

This kid is doing pretty well all things considered. He isn't spending every dime and going deep into credit debt like alot of the guests. He definitely has a better head on his shoulder than I did at his age.
Well the guy could stay where he is currently. Having water issues twice a month isn't a huge issue until he can find a better place. Researching the area is another thing the guy could do. Or he could sell his car and get an older RV to live in. Many options are available. It depends on what he can afford and what's available.
That's so true. I was choosing between a $500 apartment with utilities included and a $700-900 apartment with no utilities, and the $500 one had a bunch of units get shot to hell right after I had looked at it. I guess endangering random people is one way to ensure apartments in your neighborhood stay cheap.

This guy is such a sweetie! He’s 21 years old so a lot of this is forgivable. Im am glad that he’s coming on financial audit to get straight so young. It’s awesome that he doesn’t have any student loans.
You need to speak to them about delayed gratification. Sacrifice a little now so you can be wealthy in the future. You can still have fun on a budget and not eat out everyday but its embarrassing to be old and broke/still in debt
Budgeting takes patience and determination to make it work. I have learned I am not patience enough to do so as I got older. I got married at 20 and was actually wiser with finance because we bought our first home at 22 (when things were so much more affordable). But the discipline was there to monitor where the money was going. I am on a one way road to be back on track. I realized one can easily go off track if not careful.
Honestly pretty impressive for a 21 year old. He is still immature and needs to figure things out but once he finds his direction and sets himself to it, he will be so successful.
I think he’s in a good position for his age. Just needs to budget and watch his discretionary spending to avoid lifestyle creep. Also learning that cars are depreciating assets.
As a Fort Worth native, I had a one bedroom apartment in Clearfork for 1180 a month, which is a very nice neighborhood with all your need and wants within 10 min. 1400+ is not far off I will say, but I would say 60% of one bedrooms are well below 1200 a month that are still accessible in safe, comfortable parts of town.
My initial reaction was that Caleb is being kind of hard on him, he's certainly doing better than most 21 year olds, by a long shot. I do understand where Caleb is coming from though, he is scared for Tarean and wants to make sure he's scared as well so he fixes the issues before they get out of control. I've got faith he'll figure it out.
I saved the majority of my income because I live with my parents and didn’t really spend money on anything besides spending when I go with my girlfriend at the time. Then I got a large sum of money to me from taxes and went crazy. I’m not sure what happened but for 8 months straight I spent about 2 thousand dollars a month on my credit card even though I only made around 1.5k a month. It was all Uber, eating out, gifts, games and whatever else I felt like buying that day. I never missed a payment because I watched the statements due dates and even borrowed money from my sister, but the stress and anxiety was awful. Watching your videos helped me get back on track and stay on track. I’m only spending around 500 or less a month again. I fully paid off my sister and I’m still paying off a few couple things but I’m on the right track again. I’m grateful to not have any debt and finally start saving for an emergency fund and car fund. And yes I plan to get another job because I do not get paid enough.
You should censor his information via UA-cam's editor (you can blur) at 6:51 on the page you've faced towards the camera. I'm not sure if there are other areas because I haven't watched the video completely yet, but his address is pretty clearly visible.
He said he was living at home when he got that. Probably had a large down payment and was able to pay $1000+ a month towards the car because he didn’t have rent or any substantial bills at that point in life.
I think he got in love with the idea of being a business owner because he prefers the "identity" it gives him over just saying "I work for Starbucks and Walmart" because it makes no sense at all to keep doing that "side hustle" when it's not making you any money. Being able to buy cars so young probably was really ego-boosting, and it's really hard to accept that it wasn't a good idea.
I love Caleb’s comment section! Everyone is being so kind here! And I agree! This guy is actually doing pretty well compared to a lot of other people his age!
That car rental thing might be worth it if he was actually taking the mileage deduction on a per mile basis. Secondly, if you don’t know what you wanna do in college, getting a basic business degree normally will set you up fairly well for most jobs. Unless you want to do something like art most corporate jobs a basic business degree is good enough to get in the door.
I must be missing something. In 2016-2018 I was a supervisor at Starbucks in Georgia, and my hourly rate was - I kid you not - $12.83/hour. $19.80 for a barista position in Texas...??

Just close them now, take the hit while you are in a relatively good place, stop playing the credit card points game and find 1 or 2 with good cash back and/or rewards and move forward with those. Not even going to get into the absolutely bad idea I think the "Uber of rental cars" thing is, especially in a state that's less than a half a days ride from the Mexican border.

I know how people treat rental cars.
the only person that's allowed to drive my car besides myself, is my father. that's my boundary.
This! A lot of insurance companies won’t cover your car or the other persons car if they’re not on the policy.
I hope he doesn't write off food service management from possible career choices just because one person at Starbucks said he doesn't have leadership skills. Those can all be learned!
Agree. When someone shows interest a good manager would offer to assist their employee in gaining those skills.
He’s not a leader and that’s ok.
Caleb i have an idea:
What if during these audits you model things on Excel (or something similar) like interest rates accruing on cc balances, depreciation over time on vehicles, retirement/savings funds, etc.
I think you may have a greater affect on these guests if they SAW what bad financial decisions are costing them in the long term. Plus it’s really interesting to math nerds like myself haha

I HATE the idea of letting people rent your car. We’re relying too much on someone else in that situation and are just one bad decision from the driver from having a destroyed car
My mom did that. The drives destroyed her car.... it's not worthy

I don't think he realizes he is losing money with his car business because all he sees is the $400 going into his account rather than see the money lost in:
10% interest on loan,
car maintenance-oil changes, tires, filters, fluids, brakes, etc.
car insurance,
Gas,
Depreciation,
Leaving himself open to risk of being scammed,
And his lost time that could be spent on anything else.

My apologies Tarean for all those meals you spoiled me on 🫢
It’s easy to let happen. I had friends who did the same. Wasn’t always in bad intention either sometimes it’s self inflicted. With his obsession with renting cars I’d recommend he try apply for the Management Trainee Program with Enterprise. We’re always short staffed at the branches. All you need is a drivers license and associates to be qualified. Plus pay is way better than Starbucks with good benefits too.
Imma look into this
@@tareancarter6570 Branch Manager at Enterprise here! You do need a Bachelor’s Degree for the Management Trainee program. But both are full time and offer full benefits packages!
Oh my goodness, I hope Caleb sees your comment to notify him
I thought about this too, it’s an excellent idea! If you like it, you can finish your bachelors at night and then move into the management program. Might be perfect…
@Tarean Carter I worked in a car rental for my 1st job out of college. I dont like this idea, but if you do it, I highly recommend the airport location. Yea what he has going for him is his age. You can wise up and recover from this. I was the same way at 22 up to my nose in credit card debt I wised up by 27 and buckled down to pay it all off. So he has time on his side

@@leahmcdermott4189 I was in a similar situation to him, I landed a general manager position at a start up coffee shop for a couple years, bought a house, and then they sold the company and I got a good chunk of the sale. I don't understand how by his age you don't have a beginning career path.
I've only ever taken care of myself with zero help and my the age 21 I was 2 years into my career. Not working at some high school jib at the local fast food/ quick eats joint.
I just don't understand the mentality of I'm 21,22 or 27 and don't know what to do with my life, like home your life is leaving you behind.
This kid is doing awesome. No late fees on his credit cards or interest paid. Pretty good for 21 years old. No major debt that will take 4 or 5 years to get out of. If he will cut back on his spending he should do awesome. Wishing you the best & hope you come back in a year or two with an update.

Well the guy could stay where he is currently. Having water issues twice a month isn't a huge issue until he can find a better place. Researching the area is another thing the guy could do. Or he could sell his car and get an older RV to live in. Many options are available. It depends on what he can afford and what's available.

That's so true.
Being 21 and already thinking about finances is a good sign, still very young and doing much better than most 21 year Olds. Keep up the good work

Caleb is doing a wonderful service for the world. I have learned a lot from watching his videos. Thank you Caleb! keep up the great work!
Love the pie charts for the spending recommendations! Small addition but big quality boost!
Good job on the sponsor. Congrats

wow, that was harsh. "oh, btw, you're not even close to buying a home at 25"
I love it when Caleb throws papers on the floor which sends the message that debt is stupid!
The math isn’t adding up. He paid off a $40k car in 2 years on an income of ~$50k while spending all disposable income.
He said he was living at home when he got that. Probably had a large down payment and was able to pay $1000+ a month towards the car because he didn’t have rent or any substantial bills at that point in life.
That guy is full of crap. He's gonna get audited and really regret fubbing on his taxes. "Someone on the internet told me I could do it." 🤦♀️
I think he got in love with the idea of being a business owner because he prefers the "identity" it gives him over just saying "I work for Starbucks and Walmart" because it makes no sense at all to keep doing that "side hustle" when it's not making you any money.
Just got off work and I‘m immediately getting a reminder why I‘ll not be stupidly spending the money I just earned
Last weekend I somewhat had my sister do a financial audit… basically help me make a budget. It was good for me and I think a lot more before I want to buy anything. This young man deserves big props for not going to college without a plan. I've known several people over the years who became successes *without* spending a small fortune on a college degree.
"Several people" is anecdotal. What does the data say how people with and without college degrees fare financially after 20 years post high school?
@@razmiddle9410 the “data,” as it were does not answer important questions such as, “What types of jobs are people drawn toward, given other predispositions?” A college degree is not a golden ticket to financial success. All those credit cards scare me... especially when half of them he doesn't like. Just close them now, take the hit while you are in a relatively good place, stop playing the credit card points game and find 1 or 2 with good cash back and/or rewards and move forward with those. Not even going to get into the absolutely bad idea I think the "Uber of rental cars" thing is, especially in a state that's less than a half a days ride from the Mexican border.
how often do you think cars are stolen stateside and moved across the border? idk of the being a serious issue, much easier and less risky just to steal the cars already in MX when one is needed and forging paperwork through bribes. btw, coming from someone that lives in MX
