Fun Fact: Ann & Nancy Wilson are sisters, they wrote this song as an angry response to their record label spreading false scandalous rumors about them, saying that Ann & Nancy were secretly lovers (which obviously wasn't true) just as a marketing ploy to increase album sales. This made the sisters so mad that they wrote this song to tell off, rebuke & reprimand these record label agents, calling them "barracudas" (a predator fish known for their deliberately cruel temperament & vicious behavior).
It's cool when the artist can get this kind of revenge, or at least get the word out on how disgusting the labels can be. Elton John did a similar thing, but a lot less subtly. The lyrics to 'Tower of Babel': Snow, cement and ivory young towers Someone called us Babylon Those hungry hunters Tracking down the hours But where were all your shoulders when we cried Were the darlings on the sideline Dreaming up such cherished lies To whisper in your ear before you die It's party time for the guys in the tower of Babel Sodom meet Gomorrah, Cain meet Abel Have a ball y'all See the letches crawl With the call girls under the table Watch them dig their graves 'Cause Jesus don't save the guys In the tower of Babel Junk, angel, this closet's always stacked The dealers in the basement Filling your prescription For a brand new heart attack But where were all your shoulders when we cried Were the doctors in attendance Saying how they felt so sick inside Or was it just the scalpel blade that lied It's party time for the guys in the tower of Babel Sodom meet Gomorrah, Cain meet Abel Have a ball y'all See the letches crawl With the call girls under the table Watch them dig their graves 'Cause Jesus don't save the guys In the tower of Babel
Heart is probably the most appreciated yet underrated rock bands of all time. The band is so talented and clean and her vocals is amazing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸❤️😘
Heart were never shy about their love for Led Zeppelin (Given they played 'Stairway to Heaven' live in their honor while Zeppelin watched...) and they admitted that they lifted the riff for 'Barracuda' in 1977 from Led Zeppelin's song "Achilles' last stand" from 1976 🤘🤘 But no one accused Heart of being a 'Zeppelin clone' because the Wilson sisters (Ann and Nancy) created their own musical path and were the first women to front a heavy rock band... Nancy Wilson is incredible on acoustic guitar and owed a lot of her playing to Jimmy Page's acoustic pieces w/ Zeppelin. Ann Wilson (lead vocals) said she wrote 'Barracuda' (which is a very ugly, vicious, flesh-eating fish) after a record executive approached her and insinuated that her sister Nancy was her lesbian lover (It was a tabloid story publicized by Heart's former record label) ... She was pi++ed off and directed her anger at the guy... At the time, Ann was dating her BF Michael Fisher... and Nancy was dating Michael's brother Roger Fisher (who was the lead guitarist of Heart).
A serious contender for the most super-human voice I've ever heard. The clarity, resonance, and power on those absurdly high belts... It's almost impossible to even compare her to most vocalists. One of my favorite moments in this song is the harmony between the two sisters. You can hear how many years they've been singing together from how perfectly in sync they are.
Sibling harmonies are uniquely compelling: Wilson sisters [Heart], Wilson brothers [The Beach Boys], Deheza twins [School of Seven Bells], Sierota siblings [Echosmith], Haden triplets [The Haden Triplets], Smith sisters [Rising Appalachia], and many others.
Saw Heart in concert twice. Both times Ann Wilson's vocals were so perfect it sounded like a studio recording. "BLACK ON BLACK", "IF LOOKS COULD KILL", and "WILD CHILD" are three of my favorites. Ann Wilson's favorite song "DOG AND BUTTERFLY" is a much softer ballad, but very good.
I first saw Heart when I was 13 and they played a dance at my high school. Back then, live bands were hired and we often got the best of them before they got famous (Heart, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Sweeney Todd with Bryan Adams on lead vocals, and so many others). I made a point of seeing Heart play in the city as many times as I could until they famous and moved on to bigger worlds. To me, they were never as good as their early years with the original band and my last time to see them was at an outdoor concert with a long line of great acts. We were never friends, nor ever spoke, but they all knew me from being at so many of their shows. That last time was a magical August night, the hot Summer sun finally setting and a welcome breeze wafting in from over the Pacific Ocean. The lights of the mountains across the harbour gave a backdrop to the stage. When Heart stepped on as the last band of the day, both Ann and Nancy gave me a smile and wave before they started. I felt special, but they made sure to make their entire audience feel that way at every show. They played their best of the older songs, but were also promoting the new album, Dog And Butterfly, another masterpiece from one of my favourite bands. Ann's voice is truly incredible. Seeing and hearing her from 5 feet away is even more amazing. The whole band was amazing. Ann and Nancy had a long string of hits in the 80s, but not with the original band. While their hits were good, I missed the old sound. Fantastic drums and bass, two guys who could play lead guitar plus Nancy usually on acoustic, while Ann's vocals were often accompanied by her also playing flute.
07/05/1981 Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego, they headlined a 7 band show. Festival seating=$80😱😎👍💯 You can tell they were angry. A production idiot spread the rumor that they were lesbians. They're sisters, that's all. They're also going after the music industry with male domination.
Great reaction. Heart was the dream child of singer Ann Wilson and her sister guitarist Nancy Wilson. They also have a softer side with songs like 'Dog and Butterfly' and 'Dreamboat Annie' but also hard rocking songs like 'Magic Man' and 'Crazy on You'. They also did ballads like 'Alone' and some other 80's pop rock songs.
If you are ready to be even more amazed by these talented sisters, watch their tribute song to Led Zeppelin (in front of Led Zeppelin) at the Kennedy Center Honors 2012. Yes, it took place THIRTY-FIVE years after this video, but they still brought tears of joy to everyone...including Robert Plant. (also, make sure you react to the FULL version). 😁
Background on what the inspiration of this song was Inna - The Wilson sisters revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish. Source: Songfacts
Hello there I hope your finger feels better soon sweetheart you're too sweet to be her honey how great is that song the best rock female singer of all time love your reactions. You got to listen to sing child sing on Dreamboat Annie album he even plays with the flute I think is the best song on the album. You are so sweet and gorgeous honey keep up the good work
🇨🇦 The best 3 decades of Original music are 1959 - 1989 ! You could spend the rest of your life reacting to those 3 decades alone, and never reach the end !
Magic Man came to mind as well, and from the softer side i agree with Dreamboat Annie, but if you want to hear and feel how amazing Ann's voice is i would suggest Alone. I was 22 when Heart came on the scene and have loved them ever since, so glad to see someone your age still finding the greatness in 70's classic rock. 😊
Your pronunciation of Barracuda was spot on 1st time👍 As for the bandage, sometimes people will make mountains out of molehills. In the 70s & the 80s, pure talent was the only to be noticed by record companies.
The dumb old recording company executives in the 1960's and 70's were just throwing spaghetti at the wall, hoping something would stick. They were looking for another band, like the Beatles and would sign anybody with a bit of a following. It was in the 1980's, when they got in a new crop of executives came in that were smarter than the fans, and started push disposable acts, and by the 1990's they were really churning out disposable acts. It didn't help that the economy in the US was such that young folk were looking for music as depressing as their lives.
@InnaSoloMusic what a beautiful reaction! When I found out you are Italian that didn't hurt either! You are a lovely girl and I hope your finger healed well.
Now you know how we felt back then, so glad you enjoy the music of that time. I was an 80s teen but got the tail end of the 70s due to my brothers. Basically got the best of both worlds; classic rock & 80s metal! 🤟😎
Still going strong, one of the best, if not the best Local Seattle Band ever...long before the Grunge scene here...Ann and Nancy are performing this year for a New Year's show in Seattle timed to let out for concert fans to watch a fireworks show over the city...🎉🎉🎉
🔥🔥🔥Fire! Ann Wilson is one of the greatest singers ever. Crazy on You, Alone. Never are 🔥🔥🔥 also. They did a magnificent tribute to Led Zeppelin in 2012, Stairway to Heaven.A phenomenal performance
Ann looks like a girlfriend I had back in the 70's in college.....and that outfit she's wearing was what many of the chickies wore at that time to be cool-looking. Yeah......every day was an adventure for sure. I don't have any regrets or complaints about that time.....just wonderful memories.
If you like Heart you must watch their performance of Stairway to Heaven in honor of Led Zepplin at the Kennedy Center Honors....its amazing got tears from the actual members of Zepplin and a standing ovation from them and everyone else including President Obama
Heart was very talented and versatile. They evolved over time. I suggest going forward to 1983 for your next Heart selection and check out their song called Alone. Ann's voice and Nancy's guitar are both amazingly powerful.
Good to see people getting aboard the HEART - ANN WILSON train, ive actually seen them, Ann By herself over 175 times. Ann Wilson is currently touring. I will be catching the Florida shows in December. Heart has announced tour dates beginning Dec 27th in CALIFORNIA then Seattle for New Years eve. 2024 marks 50 years for them. I have been following them for that long. ENJOY!!!❤❤❤
Looks like you may have hit your finger with a hammer - possibly hanging a picture in your new apartment??? Whatever happened, I hope it didn't hurt too bad. Love you, INNA!! Take care and see you in the next one. ❤
Please do "Magic Man" (studio version) and do a song called "Cook with Fire", which is a live song that starts their album called "Dog and Butterfly". Everything else on the album is from a studio recording but they decided to start the album with a live song. Cook with Fire totally rocks!! You will love it!
The '70s to early '80s was the soundtrack of my youth, and I also think it was the best time for music... but obviously I'm an old biased guy. It's a tired worn out trope, but I wouldn't trade being young now with the experience of growing up in that era!
Ann Wilson is known as the mother of grunge 😅, that’s because in the early days of grunge in the Seattle area, Nancy would let most of the grunge bands use her farm house as their get together hang out place.
Late 70s to early 80s is just amazing. Like you said, all those genres were thriving at once: rock, punk, New Wave, Brit-pop, NWOBHM, Ska, Reggae, funk...even hip-hop.
Yes, Heart are great! The video is from a TV performance, but the audio is the studio recording. I've heard the real audio from this performance and it was really good, so I think this video is one put together for MTV for highlighting the studio recording. As suggested, check out "Magic Man", "Dog And Butterfly", and "Alone". Also, "Love Alive", "Straignt On", "What About Love", "These Dreams", and "All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You"(live). I really like their performances on an "unplugged" concert called "The Road Home", but their are a number of good live concerts out there.
Ciao, Bellissima!! Heart is one of my favorite bands. What I like about the music of the past is the songs had meaning. This song was about the record industry and how ruthless it was to them. Please continue your education by listening to the bands of the 1960s and 1970s. We of that generation would be pleased if your generation would continue to keep it alive. Keep that finger clean and dry ok signorina?😉
I saw them many times and they were awesome For sure they do have fun performing every time. I would recommend Alone the MV is really good and it's a great song. Nice reaction thank you. 🤟🔥✌
They did a cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors that will blow you away! They had the remaining members of Led Zepplin in tears. Definitely one not to miss.
Don't leave the 60's out, so much good music from many genres was created in the 60's with all that was going on. Anti War songs, anti establishment, join together songs, peace and love, Psychedelic songs and even songs about the assassinations. The 60's were a lead in to the great songs thru the 70's.
Magic Man is a must from the same era. Its hard to pick a favorite between Barracuda, Magic Man & Crazy on You, they all rock and I love the heavy, down and dirty riffs.
Fun Fact: Ann & Nancy Wilson are sisters, they wrote this song as an angry response to their record label spreading false scandalous rumors about them, saying that Ann & Nancy were secretly lovers (which obviously wasn't true) just as a marketing ploy to increase album sales. It's cool when the artist can get this kind of revenge, or at least get the word out on how disgusting the labels can be. Elton John did a similar thing, but a lot less subtly. The lyrics to 'Tower of Babel':
Snow, cement and ivory young towers
Someone called us Babylon
Those hungry hunters
Tracking down the hours
But where were all your shoulders when we cried
Were the darlings on the sideline
Dreaming up such cherished lies
To whisper in your ear before you die
It's party time for the guys in the tower of Babel
Sodom meet Gomorrah, Cain meet Abel
Have a ball y'all
See the letches crawl
With the call girls under the table
Watch them dig their graves
'Cause Jesus don't save the guys
In the tower of Babel
Junk, angel, this closet's always stacked
The dealers in the basement
Filling your prescription
For a brand new heart attack
But where were all your shoulders when we cried
Were the doctors in attendance
Saying how they felt so sick inside
Or was it just the scalpel blade that lied
It's party time for the guys in the tower of Babel
Sodom meet Gomorrah, Cain meet Abel
Have a ball y'all
See the letches crawl
With the call girls under the table
Watch them dig their graves
'Cause Jesus don't save the guys
In the tower of Babel
Yeah, I posted the same thing.
I was hoping someone would point that out.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of having a say all that.
If most of your favorite songs come from the 70's and 80's it just means one thing - you have great taste in music.
👍👍👍👍👍 😊
Were born in the wrong decade ... 😎...
So true, I was born in 1992 but 99% of the music I listen to came out before I was born.
Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock vocalists ever (sister Nancy had a great voice, as well).
Heart is probably the most appreciated yet underrated rock bands of all time. The band is so talented and clean and her vocals is amazing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸❤️😘

The entire band was just incredible, for what they were doing then. Yes, Ann is legendary, in the stratosphere for how amazing her voice was.
Ann Wilson turned 74 yesterday (June 19, 2024) and STILL rocks just as hard and can sing better in many ways than 50 years ago.
As amazing as Ann's voice is, it's hard to believe their first number one hit was "These Dreams" sung by her sister, Nancy.
It came out the year I had my son and I listened to the little 45 on my record player over and over again.
80s logic
I agree 70s and 80s is the best era. Actually 70s Heart is my favorite era for this band

Yep. People could actually sing and play instruments then. Pure talent, no autotune.
Ann Wilson. Amazing voice. Check her out covering Led Zeppelin's stairway to heaven. Brought them to tears
Ann Wilson, simply the all time best female rock vocalist ever.
Hall of fame rock right here, and I think few would disagree. On their top hits, the guitars and drums are amazing.
You need to watch them perform Stair Way to Heaven, Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin
I was never into Heart but I have total respect for Ann's vocals and her version of Stairway To Heaven was amazing!
Yea your parents and grandparents knew how to ROCK!!!
The great Roger Fisher on guitar!! Howard Leese also a beast.
If you are ready to be even more amazed by these talented sisters, watch their tribute song to Led Zeppelin (in front of Led Zeppelin) at the Kennedy Center Honors 2012. A barracuda is a large, predatory, ray-finned fish known for its fearsome appearance and ferocious behaviour.

Great song, great great great singer
Absolutely correct, music from the 70's and the early 80's is some of the greatest songs. For a bit softer side try "Dream Boat Annie".
Ann and Nancy rock, what a voice!
4:42 ...and that was the moment I fell in love. Anns smile is amazing. Her headbanging is pretty legit too.
It is so much fun seeing you enjoying the same music that I loved over 40 years ago! ❤❤❤
I should make a reaction video.... Me, reacting to you, reacting.... I mainly just smile and maybe drool a little. 😁
you are great, Isley Brothers Motown "This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)" My Extended Version!
Heart was a great band, got to see them in concert. I would like to suggest you check out AC/DC Thunderstruck (official video)
The tempo of this song is similar to Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand" it is possible that heart sampled it.🤷🏻♂️
I was 12 and life was perfect then. It is certainly not perfect now...sigh.
Must also react to Fleetwood Mac "dreams"👌🏻
And more led Zeppelin songs please 🤌🏻😉
You have to react to pink floyd , steeley Dan, Jethru Tull
America. just to name a few
The Best Music was from the 60's up to the 00's. I'm glad that you're enjoying what my generation had to offer!
Hope your finger feels better!
This song was a hit on Guitar Hero! Also interesting fact, the word "Barracuda" refers to a species of fish! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barracuda
Don't know if you've seen it yet,,,, Joan Jett, Hate Myself for Loving You.
You're Italian?! Now I like you more.
Good to see people getting aboard the HEART - ANN WILSON train, ive actually seen them, Ann By herself over 175 times. Ann Wilson is currently touring. Check out Linda Rondstandt songs “ Long LongTime” - “ Your no Good and “ “ Blue Bayou “
You said the title PERFECTLY... possibly better! Those rolling "R"s make it sound sexy, hahaha.
Did you watch the final game of the Copa Mundial ? 🏆 ⚽️ 😉.
A song about a scum bag records promoter . Ann gave him a piece of her mind with Barracuda .
You must hear Heart sing, “Alone” official video. Also the more recent Live video.
You should check out songs by the band Triumph
They definitely rock! Did you pinch or cut your finger?
Loved this when it was new, love it now. I love ♥️
No autotune just Starpower!
Ann's amazing vocals and Nancy's guitar skills are unmatched. I hope you dive into more of their music. Thank you for a great reaction ❤
Keep safe your finger. Nice reaction.
This was Rock and i came 1977to school
Ann Wilson is known as the mother of grunge 😅, that’s because in the early days of grunge in the Seattle area, Nancy would let most of the grunge bands use her farm house as their get together hang out place.
Great Classic rock band
Of course there is some interplay.
Ann the singer and Sister Nancy Wilson the blonde on guitar came from my home state Washington State
I mention this only in passing, you seem to have just the same hairstyle as Ann Wilson in this video
One of my favorites! The singer, Ann Wilson, was my first entertainer crush. Before any movie stars or TV stars.
Outside of the '70s, the period from 1980 to 1983 was an incredibly fertile time for music. Great stuff in all genres.
Late 70s to early 80s is just amazing. Like you said, all those genres were thriving at once: rock, punk, New Wave, Brit-pop, NWOBHM, Ska, Reggae, funk...even hip-hop.
The masculine respects the feminine.
Great reaction Inna! I have seen Heart many times in the 70s and 80s,they were phenomenal Live! Outstanding concerts every time. .
There is not one single thing wrong with the way you said it
The heart sisters are the bad assets
I can listen to you say Barracuda all day long like you first said it.
I favolosi gruppi di una volta
not one autotune machine around
I've seen them in concert and what you see here is the same enegy they give you at live shows.Start to finish.
The Wilson sisters are Rock Legends.✌🏻
One of the Greatest Bands ever! Rock On! Ann and Nancy!
Please, ALONE😊😊😊😊😊
Yes, Heart are great! The video is from a TV performance, but the audio is the studio recording. I've heard the real audio from this performance and it was really good, so I think this video is one put together for MTV for highlighting the studio recording.
As suggested, check out "Magic Man", "Dog And Butterfly", and "Alone". Also, "Love Alive", "Straignt On", "What About Love", "These Dreams", and "All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You"(live). I really like their performances on an "unplugged" concert called "The Road Home", but their are a number of good live concerts out there.
You could sell some advertising space on that injured finger. 😊☝️💯
Hahahah imagine 😂

No, they didn't.
Slava Ukraini.
I saw these ladies in Asbury Park, NJ at Convention Hall on August 16th 1977.
They were amazing!
They did a cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors that will blow you away! They had the remaining members of Led Zepplin in tears. Definitely one not to miss.
great voice!I'm sure if he wanted to he could break glasses with it...or bricks! ❤
