The Wilson sisters are Rock Legends!
She's one of the finest female rockers of all time. Right up there at the top with the other greats.
My favorite Heart is 70's Heart
HEART is great. Check out /Magic Man / Crazy On You / These Dreams/ Alone/ And a Tribute to Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven) Enjoy girl 👍
This was a live performance, but the audio used was the studio version from 1977... Ann Wilson (lead vocals) was one of the first women to front a classic rock band, and her younger sister Nancy Wilson (rhythm & acoustic guitars/ vocals) was the first female rock guitarist. Back in the 70's, rock music was a man's game... and the big bands were - Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, etc... Heart was formed in the late 60's by guitarist Roger Fisher, and at some point in the early 70's, he met singer Ann Wilson and insisted that she be their lead singer... Ann was a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, and wanted that variety w/ Heart - the heavy and the acoustic.
At a local show, Ann Wilson met Roger's brother Mike Fisher and they fell in love... She left w/ him to live in Canada, where he was dodging the Vietnam war draft. The band soon joined her there in 1973... and around 1974, Ann's sister Nancy Wilson went to join her sister and the band Heart... Oddly enough, Nancy became romantically involved w/ guitarist Roger Fisher... so it was 2 sisters in love w/ 2 brothers for a while.
Heart was signed while they were gigging in Canada in 1974... They recorded their debut album 'Dreamboat Annie' that year and it soon got a US release in 1975 and went gold there.
Heart was working on a 2nd album 'Magazine' in 1977 when their label marketed the Wilson sisters as 'lesbian lovers'... The band was so infuriated that they left the label and signed w/ CBS Records in America and released the album 'Little Queen' ... 'Barracuda' became a huge single, and it was inspired by the riff of a Led Zeppelin song "Achilles' last stand"... Ann Wilson said she wrote the lyrics after a record executive asked about her 'lover' and was referring to her sister Nancy... That was her retaliation.
'Little Queen' went platinum in sales and Heart became a huge live attraction... Sadly, both romances w/ Roger and Mike Fisher ended... Guitarist Roger Fisher ended up getting fired by Heart after he was unable to cope w/ the breakup w/ Nancy.
I'm an old guy and saw Heart perform this song on the tour supporting this album. They were excellent. I think this video is the studio track synched with a live video. They were really powerful live.
You're right. It's not a bad sync, either. I've seen much worse.
The video with the original audio is out there on YT also but what happened was somehow the audio portion got all screwed up and parts of it sound wobbly so the original studio audio was dubbed to the video.
@@markdecker6190 I believe it. Now it's all digital, no tapes to go warbly. Heart was great live, very dreamlike in a lot of ways.
I'm not generally a jealous person but damn I'm jealous lol
Was this about 1976?
One of the best vocal duos of all time..
Heart has re-invented themselves a couple of different times, but this is their iconic and best, IMHO, version. Ann and Nancy Wilson are two of the most rockin' women in history, truly legendary. Unfortunately, the rest of the band tends to get over-looked at times. Check out their "Dreamboat Annie", "Magic Man", and for one from the 80's, "All I Want to Do is Make Love to You".
Agree 💯. Although they continued their excellence through the 80s/90s, I thought with Bébé le Strange, and beyond, they were never the same as their great beginnings.
@@mcbeezee2120 Agree 100%. They went from being a real team as a band to Ann & Nancy with a supporting cast. Still good, but a cut below the killer rock and roll band when they began.
Ann did the best version of Unchained Melody as well. Amazing vocalist.
I'm not sure why but I've always liked "Dog and Butterfly"
To answer your question, I believe this is the studio version of the song that has been synced with a video recording of the band doing the same song live. It's a great song by a great, and very prolific, band. Ann Wilson was one of the best vocalists of the classic rock era. The woman playing guitar and singing backup vocals is her sister Nancy. "Magic Man" and "Crazy On You" are a couple of their other top hits. For Janis Joplin. I would recommend "Me and Bobby McGee" or "Piece of My Heart".
✅️
I think that Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time of any gender. Also by Heart on your must-react list:
Crazy on You
Magic Man
If you have already reacted to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, then you should react to the Wilson sisters performing that song in 2012 at the Kennedy Center during a tribute to some musicians, including Led Zeppelin.
Now in her 70s, Ann Wilson can still sing with no sign of fading away.
Great suggestions but I would include "Alone"
Her voice is amazing
Nancy and Ann Wilson founders of heart and incredible musicians
This is a great rock band that started in the 70's. Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. They have had so many great hits such as "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc. In 2012 Ann & Nancy performed at the Kennedy Center Honors in a tribute to Led Zeppelin doing their classic song "Stairway To Heaven".
this song has stood the test of time!!
Nancy has a great set of pipes as well, just Ann gets the most attention
Got to see them do this live in Asbury Park in 1977.
If you haven't done already you should watch their cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven
When this song comes on the radio 📻 .. You turn it up ! 🔊 !! Ann & Nancy were awesome 👌 .. ❤️
She is my favorite female singer
Heart's "Dreamboat Annie" is a start-to-finish masterpiece. You'll love it
Pat Benetar - Promises in the dark is a banger. Female front girl!
Crazy On You and Magic Man are my HEART faves.
Since you love Stairway to heaven. You have to watch Hearts trubute to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to heaven. It gave me the chills when I saw it.
Heart was before my time but this is one of my most favs. ever. 🤘❤❤🤘
Wilson sister's are simply iconic musicians, just simply iconic musicians, man or woman just doesn't factor in, they're amazing! Always have been & always will be 🤘
Great song
There is this version with actual live audio but most folks pick this with the studio version put over the concert.
If you haven't yet you should react to their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors program. Robert Plant says it's the greatest cover of Stairway to Heaven he's heard. They make it their song. Also thus song was used in a Sherk movie. Can you hear any of the guitar work similarities to a Led Zeppelin song?
Ann Wilson singing and sister Nancy Wilson on guitar and backing vocals. They were a staple of 70's and 80's music. No discussion of female rockers is complete without mentioning Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac.
Yes, that is the studio version synchronized very well to the video
Grace Slick fronts Jefferson Airplane.
Chrissy Hinde fronts The Pretenders.
Patty Smythe fronts Scandal.
Lita Ford rocks hard.
Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie are very prominent in Fleetwood Mac.
Also, check out The Runaways and Vixen.
Don't forget Joan Jet & the Blackhearts.👍
Highly intelligent, supremely talented & both drop-dead gorgeous! Here come the SCOTTISH STEAMROLLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music videos like MTV didn’t start until 81. Before that we only heard them on the radio and didn’t know what anyone looked like unless you saw them live, had their album with pictures, or they happened to get on tv.
It was only the music that made them popular, and they really had to know how to play. Cheers.
Her voice gives me the chills too 😊
I'm in my 60s, you CANNOT imagine my musical journey or the lifelong journey you have before you!
So glad you are listening and learning. Great music like great art comes from great music and art, from people not devices.😊
Best female voice in rock and roll for my money. If you want to see girl rock from the 60's 70's, check out the Runaways "Cherry Bomb" it's a decent starting place.
I saw him three times in the seventies and once in the early 80s fantastic band
Best Janis Joplin songs to start with include: Me and Bobby McGee and Piece of My Heart.
Other female singers 70s-80s-ish (or bands w/ female singer to check out: Fleetwood Mac (+ Stevie Nicks + Christine McVie), Cher, Bonnie Tyler, Blondie, Lita Ford +Joan Jett + The Runaways, & Doro + Warlock (+ Heart) to name a few I like.
Live video with studio recording. Awesome band, Heart.
A truly iconic and brilliant performance.
Ive seen them live 3 times. Immaculate power vocals harmonies and Ann and Nancy doing there thing. Always on point as rock royalty.
Watch Ann own The Who's "Love Reign O-er Me', she still sounds as powerful as ever.
A time when true talent reigned supreme.
Am he such an incredibly powerful voice. Clear and ballsy. Perfect. Great! Saw her a few years ago with Jeff Beck and Paul Rogers. She was fantastic.
Ann had one of the best vocal coaches in the world back in their day. They were influenced by Led Zeppelin. The album "Little Queen" is definitely one for your collection.
You have to see them do Stairway to Heaven in front of Led Zeppelin at their honor show! The best cover of Stairway to Heaven
"Me and Bobbie Mcgee' Was Janis Joplin's biggest song. Went to #1 on the charts in 1970. "Blue Bayou"
was a great song for Linda Ronstadt. (live )
I remember listening to them in the mid 70s late night on C-Fun from Vancouver, bounced off the ionosphere to ID. Heard “Magic Man” for the first time that way and was totally enthralled and in love with their voices.
There’s a full length concert from when they played at WSU in Pullman WA; it’s worth seeing. They really are/were that good live, even way back when they were starting out.
Alone is theirs classics too..the vocals were made in heaven
This September my friend and I get to go see Heart in concert for the first time. They are playing with another of my favorite bands (Styx). It should be an awesome show , I can't wait to see them live.
In Vancouver?
@@neillenet291 They are playing at the state fair in Puyallup Washington. The tickets were a little spendy ($120 bucks each) but that includes a pre-concert party in a private beer garden. Free beer and two of my favorite bands.....SIGN ME UP ! LOL :)
Great song Ann Wilson is the best woman singer of all time or voice is fantastic gives me goosebumps check out Hearts other songs what a group they are so tight amazing
The way these two women were treated when the band first came out is disgraceful. Me and the people in my crowd never listen to all the BS just enjoyed the music! Peace and love!
Really I just saw you . .somewhere....who cares....funny you are.....😋
Because hard rock was done by men… and they crushed that idea by not only being “pretty good for girls”. But by being among the best of the best bands that ever existed…. and much of their music has stood the test of time.. like this song.. everyone loves it.. 50 years from now they will love it..
My favourite part is when Ann Wilson comes in again after the gitarsolo with that scream that echoes. Just so incredibly cool. It's a great song.
About dang time..lol..Gretchen Wilson covers this with the band Alice in Chains behind her playing the music!..its KICK AZZ!
This was a studio recording dubbed over a live performance.
Of course, Millie, you loved Ann Wilson singing "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors of Led Zeppelin. Ann and Nancy Wilson are a great duo to follow through Heart. Other iconic female singers that come to mind from the 60's and early 70's are Linda Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.
Love this Tune....You recognize it right away. Great licks on those guitars. Janis Joplin - "PIECE OF MY HEART" You Need to Hear this!! 😁! ESSENTIAL ! 😁
There are very few guitar tracks so INSTANTLY memorable as this one.
I think they have the actual live sound to this live performance. This the studio audio showing the live concert!!! Both sound great!!!
I remember this on 8 track tape around 13 years old! Great job reacting to this!
This is the studio audio track superimposed over live action. I've seen this performed live by Heart in the late 70's at Biloxi MS right after the song was released as a single. I stood about 8 feet from the stage. What an amazing show! The crowd went wild when they performed this song!
Still give me chills after all these years….
It is the music video but they were just as good live if not better. And there is some good footage of them doing this and some of their other hits. You've got to be checking out some Janis Joplin! She is so fascinating live but her studio recordings are so good as well. Check out her cover of the famous George Gershwin song, Summertime, the studio cut. What she does with her voice on that is amazing, and at the end she slides down this interval and the harmonics in her voice form a perfect interval above that follows right down with it and it is like a beautiful descant singing part.
Thanks for your reaction, I'm one of the many persons that gave you this suggestion, glad that you did it. Next, I'll maybe check what you do with your own band. Could be nice if you could post a video introducing you all & what inspired you and your band. Have a nice day, Millie. And be sure to watch Heart's induction ceremony in rock'n'roll Hall of fame, you'll see them from their start in the 70's until 2013--they still rock, even past 60 y. old. More female from the 60's=Janis Joplin's ball & chain (Live from Monterey 1967), or Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane (try White rabbit).
Thank you 💜
One of the greatest voices in rockmusic !
From soft to heart... Pardon me... Hard 😅
She can do anything !
A female Dio 💖
Try "Mistral Wind" or “The Night". There interpretation of "Staiway to Heaven“ is legendary and caused pipi in Robert Plant's eyes...
Enjoy the journey !
First time I heard or even saw this band was in 1977 when I was 8yrs. old and I went with my two older sisters who were old enough to be my mother...😁
Ann & Nancy are absolutely AWESOME !!!
I saw a few of their shows in the 70’s when they were touring in support of their first two outstanding albums Dreamboat Annie and Little Queen. Great time.
I've seen Heart 3 times live and they were amazing!!
Early hit. 👍 Written by Heart, 1st album lineup.
Great 👍 cover: Gretchen Wilson, Nancy Wilson and Mike Inez.
Ann Wilson, Geoffrey Tate of Queensryche, the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, RIP and the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, RIP, once lived in Metro Seattle. They had the same singing coach, the late David Kyle, RIP.
Strongly 💪 suggested videos 📹: 1 Heart and Gretchen Wilson perform Crazy on You. 2 Heart 💕 performs Stairway to Heaven 🌤
A Janis Joplin recommendation- from the Monterey International Pop Festival the song Ball and Chain. This is one of the best live performances ever.
The legend of barracuda
Get yourself some Linda Ronstadt. What an incredible, beautiful voice. 😊
NOT a music vid - but a live show with a studio dub. Regardless, Anne was pitch perfect live! Night after night! Singers/musicians can’t do this sorta thing anymore.
One of the best rock singers ever!
Peace
Heart! The greatest female rock band ever!
This video, although it shows them performing live, is dubbed with the studio version. Nothing wrong with that, just so you knew. Both off of Little Queen, "Love Alive" is most excellent, and "Dream of the Archer" really showcases Ann's unparalleled vocals.
It's alive version..Bands would just play the song and release it to promo TV rock shows (And there were quite a few) in places where they couldn't tour pre-internet. (Remember you could your 365 days ayear and still only get to a 10th of your fans workdwide if you watch the vocals/ drummer/guitarits in time with the music, you can tell. And 70's were the age of female-fronted bands--The Pretenders, Chic, Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, A Taste of Honey, Jefferson Straship, to name a few.
I sw them live in Fort Worth Tx in 83 and it was 40,000 people outdoor at 6 Flags over Fort Worth and they jammed for over two hours and they sound better live, so clean. And Ann vocals are just amazing
Some of the most iconic female rock singers of the 1970s include Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Cher, Tina Turner, Patti Smith, Cass Elliot...and many more.
And the incredible Voice of KAREN CARPENTER/ I'll Say Goodby to Love/ Superstar/ Merry Christmas Darling/Rainy Days and Monday's/
Best Heart song ever 😁IMHO. Now , I believe you threw down the Janis Joplin gauntlet. I’ll pick it up and suggest a couple of gems, which are by no means the absolute best (the absolute best is impossible to narrow down). So here are my two examples for now: “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of my Heart”.
Slash and Shakira also make great cover of this song 😎👍👍
Saw them in 1976 at Ohio State. My brother and I went to tons of concerts, and we bought 2 front row center tickets for $8.00 each. This was their debut album. Ann Wilson is top 5 in my opinion. Great concert
Janis Joplin - "(Oh Lord, won't you buy me a) Mercedes Benz" Also "Piece of My Heart." Look up the rock band, "Fanny," another '70s female band. Joni Mitchell is one of the most important voices of the '60s and '70s. Pat Benatar was a tiny ball of energy from the '80s. Another must listen is Heart's cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" (live version video). It is phenomenal. Ann Wilson was in her early 60s when she belted it out in front of President Obama and the Led Zeppelin band members. If you like female bass players, look up Tal Wilkenfeld, a child prodigy who has played with a zillion rock legends over the last 20 years. Catch her work with Jeff Beck, "Live at Ronnie Scotts," a masterpiece concert. Then check out her albums. Polish jazz player, Kinga Głyk, is another bass wonder woman who kicks ass.
and i love the voice too. Was always great music....
Got to listen to Heart sing "Magic Man".
Yeah, this is the studio track synced to the concert footage - things don't always quite match up. On the other hand, if you find the video that features this footage WITH the live audio, it's at least as good! They're a talented band and Anne is one helluva vocalist!!
ua-cam.com/video/sfX-BSO-Q8M/v-deo.html
This one? I have no idea why that version with the studio recording even exists, this one is at least as good, if not better.
Fanny was a great all-girl band and exceptionally good live. Then I do not believe you never heard of The Mamas and Papas, The Carpenters, Olivia-Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, ABBA. All were/had extraordinary good female vocalists.
ann has a voice like few others nancy plays acoustic guitar to a crazy level saw them 2 times it was fabulous
She's definitely a G.O.A.T. and her and her sister have done multiple collaborations with ALICE in Chains ⛓️
There's a good live version of Crazy on You from the 70's out on UA-cam.
Blue, Purple, Red & Black hair....love it!!!!
For Janis Joplin, try Ball & Chain - Monterey Pop, where she blew everyone away cuz most hadn't heard of her yet. Anything by Janis needs to be live. She was amazing.
This was a video, however it was filmed live and there was no autotune at that time.
Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane ist also iconic 🤙🏻
Ann Wilson; is simply one of the greatest female rock voices of all time. This video is at their concert live. Try "Alone", Ann's sister Nancy has almost as good a voice, she is the female guitarist. Heart 70's and 80's mainly. Joan Jett?? "I love Rock and Roll"
Check out Stevie Nicks! She’s another great rock voice!!!!!!! She sang with Fleetwood Mac and also had a solo career. A great song to start with is Edge of Seventeen, my favorite song of her solo career.
Heart is great. Id recommend some Queen Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood mac
This is pre digital, pre auto tune. They were great live. Ann Wilson was considered the female Robert Plant incredible voice. But, this is a studio track put with concert footage. Studuo tracks then were pretty raw. It is what it is. The Wilson sisters have definitely left their mark in the hall of rock greats.
"That was a cool song". You better believe it!
My favorite song by my favorite lady rocker!! These women and this band ROCK IT like no other! Thanks Millie!
I recommend that you checkout Sweethearts of the Rodeo "Midnight Girl in a Sunset Town".
