Ann and Nancy Wilson were my neighbour's back in 1975-76. I was a 12 year old kid and they were the first two people I met when we moved into our new house. They lived in an A Frame cabin behind our place. I used to play with their two dogs. I know that 'Magic Man' and 'Crazy On You' were written in that cabin. :)
Interesting, because she is know as the mother of Grunge 😅, only because the bands in the Seattle area used one of the sisters ranch house as a get together party hang out. I’m guessing you came across various members of Grunge’s elite bands.
Ann is Not known as the Mother of Grunge ! She’s The Undisputed Queen of Rock & Roll ! Grunge didn’t come onto the Seattle scene until early 90’s, with Pearl Jam & Nirvana. I know, cause I was there, grew up in Seattle & saw Heart Live Three times ! And, Nirvana years later. Went to Cobain’s candle light Memorial @ theSeattle Center. Courtney yelled out, F you Kurt ! So sad. RIP
I think she’s known as the mother of grunge because she owned a studio that many grunge bands recorded at. Alice In Chains, soundgarden, nirvana, pixies, etc
Ann is an amazing vocalist and Nancy is one of the best female guitarists of all time. Please check out "Crazy on You" where Nancy has an amazing guitar into. Also, check out "These Dreams live in Seattle", Nancy shows her vocal ability in that one. Great reaction and glad you appreciate them!!
Ann Wilson is Amazing! The Guitar Riff uses the famous flanger effect that gives that difference in what you are used to. Happy New Year to everybody.🎉🎊🎆❤
You should check out their song (Crazy on you) live from 1978. It has a classical inspired intro by the blond (Nancy) So talented. it's my favorite live clip of theirs from the original band before a few started to leave. They've never been the same again.
Another great reaction Biss! 'Alone' is a truly great song, but 'Barracuda' is part of what I call Hearts "holy trinity" of their 3 best, and iconic, songs. (imho) The other 2 are 'Magic Man', and 'Crazy on You'. At some point you must (you MUST lol) listen to them. Most versions of 'CoY' have an awesome acoustic guitar intro played by Nancy. I think some videos cut out that intro, so you'll want to find a video with that intro. It doesn't matter which song you hear first, but I was about 10 years old when their first album came out, and 'MM' was the first track on the record, so the first song of theirs I ever heard. You won't find a better sister act than Ann and Nancy Wilson (Nancy is the blond) They were a local band when I first heard of them in Seattle. Heart are huge Led Zeppelin fans, so this 1977 single's riff was inspired by the Led Zeppelin song "Achilles' last stand" from 1976... Ann & Nancy Wilson paid tribute to Led Zeppelin in 2012 performing 'Stairway to heaven' at the Kennedy Center Honors.
The statement about Achilles Last Stand and Barracuda It's totally incorrect. Heart (Roger Fisher) "borrowed" the riff for Barracuda from Nazareth's cover of Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight." I watched Ann and Nancy Wilson and Heart in 1976 in a bar in Seattle before their first album was released. The moment I heard them I knew they were going to be a major band in rock and roll
Such a great song. According to their 2012 autobiography, Ann Wilson wrote the lyrics and gave them to Heart's co-founder and lead guitarist Roger Fisher. He collaborated with Heart's drummer, Michael Derosier, and they wrote the music to Barracuda. Later, Nancy Wilson added her acoustic touches.
No they didn't. It was a publicity guy at a concert that made rude remarks and insinuated something that pissed Ann off. The stories grew from that as they were signed to a 3 record deal with Mushroom in Canada and wanted out as they had a big hit record and wanted to sign with Capitol in the US for huge $$$. Trashing the record company was a seen as a good move as there was a bit of anger at the band for being "greedy". Pretending it was the record company directed the anger away from them and back at Mushroom Records. Ann and Nancy have never let the truth get in the way of their many, many, self serving stories. Not sticking up for the record company - just relaying the facts.
They built this from Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand" & was directed at the record company that attempted to hang them out to dry- its ALL about the anger. The best music is made from pain & frustration. You can make love songs all day, but the music that lasts is about the more complex emotions.
Sounds like a song out of a Tarantino movie. But, we want Janis Joplin! Ball and chain, one of the best female vocal performances ever. She performed in Woodstock 1969 too.
The Woodstock performance was great but I prefer the Monterey Pop version from 1967. Killer performance, Mama Cass Elliot in the audience, and Janis' little hop of happiness when leaving the stage is priceless!
This song is singer Ann Wilson's magnificently visceral response to a back stage inference, (totally false, of course), of incestuous homosexual affairs with her sister Nancy, made by a promoter during a meet and greet, after the band had finished opening for the Kinks at a mid 70's gig in Detroit. Seething with anger, she returned to her hotel and penned the song.

Barracuda was the first song on the first cassette tape (Little Queen) I bought (from the gas station!) and it blew me away. Heart from the 70s is different than Heart from the 80s. Then they changed tactics and got help with the song writing and hit it big again with their self-titled Heart album, followed by Bad Animals, and Brigade (a LOT of great songs on that one as well). Biscuit..love all your reactions 🤣...Crazy On You and Magic Man are Heart's absolute best...Barracuda on steroids
In an interview with the Wilson sisters they had talked about how this song was written after hearing "Achilles last stand" by Zeppelin of which they were and still are great fans of. If you listen to the bass and drum tracks of both songs....they are very similar 😉
3:12 A True Classic!! That Awesome Rhythm Part UR Referring 2 & Me Being A Guitar Player Myself/Self Taught By Listening 2 Metallica In 1985…Is That Famous Palm Muting Technique That I Call The ‘Chugga..Chugga..Chugga’ Sound..The Sound That Automatically Gets The Listeners Head 2 Start Bobbing!!😊
If you like them live .... find the Kennedy Center performance salute to Led Zeppelin . They start "Stairway to Heaven" WOW !!!

If you haven't already, listen to These Dreams, which is sung by Nancy Wilson. Love your reactions! Oh, let me make sure I give a like.
Great reaction again! Two good bands I haven’t seen in your review list “the offspring” and “Seether” I would recommend “gone away” (offspring) and “drift away” ( Seether) it be cool to see your reaction to either. Happy new year!
That drum 🥁 though
Heart is great for sure!! Another good one is "Magic Man"!! Now, since I saw the songs you have covered, I am convinced you would also like Fleetwood Mac!! 😊
I’ve loved this song for decades, such a good sister act and an iconic song.
The way you were so deeply into the song when it finished and the look of disappointment that it was done! So sad
If you want to hear Nancy singing more, check out Heart's live cover of "Battle of Evermore" in Seattle from their "Alive in Seattle" performance in 2002 or 2003.
She’s not doing something too special with the word barracuda, she’s just using the Spanish pronunciation of it, nonetheless great voice of course, Ann Wilson the ultimate female rock singer, need to do more of this bands 70s hits please, 70s is the key word.
4 non blondes!!!! I'll say it again 4 non blondes!!! One of the best female bands!!!
La buena musica nunca muere, siempre vuelve
Ann normally does the lead singing, but Nancy sings lead on the song, These Dreams. You should check it out live in Seattle.
