James McAvoy….my biggest celebrity crush ever. He’s handsome (the gray is *chef’s kiss*), funny, and Scottish. He did a con in Orlando and I was unable to go. I will forever be salty about that.

In my home country we have similar tradition to "first footing". The difference is that usually the first person will receive red packet with lucky money, and it's usually a youngster or a kid even with cheerful laughs, symbolling that they will bring youthfulness, health, joy and laughters to the family in the coming year.
With that said, James McAvoy was a delightful first guess of the year to Seth's show. Happy new year to Seth, his family, ans everyone in the crews, and all the jackals. I hope 2024 will be full of laughters and joy to all!

Wow that’s very interesting… we have a very similar tradition in the Iranian/Persian culture. But our new year starts in the spring, so the first person who steps into your house brings flowers or sprouts that we believe brings luck and prosperity and it’s usually the youngest person of the family (cousin, grandchildren etc.)

As I heard it, the first-footer was supposed to be someone tall and dark haired if possible, and tall, dark, and handsome types might be asked to do several houses, with a quick drink in each for luck. A bit like Seth's Day Drinking by the end.🙂

So I was the lucky person standing outside at midnight this year. I’m a 5’2” blonde woman rather than a tall dark handsome man 🤣 but as I was bringing in the bells with my 80yr old parents I thought it was only fair to take one for the team. I brought in a lump of wood (they have a wood burner rather than a coal fire), some Scottish shortbread and a bottle of wine. I also went out the back door to let the old year out and came in the front door to let the new year in.
Another tradition is we have to have steak pie on Hogmanay, I’ve no idea why lol
Fun fact: If you drop a glass of water on a lump of coal, the coal stops being a magnet.

In my scottish family it’s traditionally steak pie for dinner at Hogmanay, give you a bit of a stomach lining for the evening ahead 😊
