  • I know my original video on how I make homemade brown sugar is a bot old now, so I wanted to share quickly for any new subbies or folks out there who stumble across my channel, that you can indeed make your own homemade brown sugar. Something that usually surprises people, I know it surprised me when I first learned this trick. it is super easy, and super inexpensive....not to mention it tastes better, smells better and looks amazing in a pretty jar! So....give this a try and when you do, make me a video response or post down below and let me know what you think and how it compares to the stuff you buy in a bag! hahaha I think you are going to LOVE it!

      Betty, do you know if you have to play the entire commercial or just a particular amount of it for the podcaster to benefit? The commercial playing on this video for me is over an hour long!! I'm actually enjoying watching Heather's cooking episodes and was shocked to see this long commercial. Thanks!

    I have worked at a sugar factory before. This is EXACTLY 💯 how they do it! Where I come from, they spin the natural molasses out of sugar beet juice (which is bitter),which gives granulated sugar, and add sugar cane molasses (sweet) to make brown sugar. Sugar cane can also make granulated sugar.
    I wish I had found you sooner. So sorry for your loss. You are surrounded by a loving and compassionate community! Prayers and blessings in this difficult time.

    I personally buy Organic pure cane sugar, it is more expensive but it isn't GMO like regular white sugar.

    • @eileensien514
      @eileensien514 3 роки тому

      Regular white sugar isn't GMO.
      It's either from sugar cane or beets. Easy way to know which it's from is by smell (smell a bag of Domino's sugar - that's the smell of cane sugar).

    I use a couple large marshmellows in my bag of brown sugar and it keeps the sugar soft. I do change the mashmellows out about once a year of whenever I think about it.

    @betsyoman7173 8 років тому +7

    I'm not using much sugar at all anymore, but here are some tips that I remember from when I did: If you don't have the brown sugar already made, you can just add a bit of molasses to a cookie recipe along with the white sugar. And I reduce my sugar a bit. So if a recipe calls for one cup white and one cup brown, I might use 1 and 3/4 cup white and a squirt of molasses. You can also add some corn syrup or pancake syrup (because that is flavored corn syrup). If you are making caramel rolls, corn syrup makes a nice gooey glaze.

      I make mine in small batches in ziplock quart bags (1 c sugar + 1 T molasses = light brown sugar / 1 c sugar + 2 Tablespoons molasses = dark brown sugar).
      I smoosh the sealed bag by hand while watching TV and have brown sugar by the time I go to bed.
      I store my bags in the freezer.

    I am just staying home out of the madness. My ministries are canceled so this is a bummer but we will all get through this. There is always tomorrow to look forward to. In the meantime, I am starting my flower and vegetable gardens and this is so relaxing and enjoyable. I wanted to make a sandwich and forgot to make a loaf of bread so bread making in on the agenda for tomorrow. I want to wish and pray that everyone stays safe and if you can't visit neighbors and love ones, then call them. Just like the old saying, reach out and touch someone on the phone of course. Sending love and hugs

    Just found your channel - this last Thanksgiving at the last minute my grown kids wanted sweet potato casserole - I had everything ready to put together and didn't have any brown sugar - my son and his girlfriend went to two different stores but they were already closed. I told my son's girlfriend I remembered that you can make brown sugar - she pulled it up on her phone and of course I had sugar and molasses (kinda of old) - we mixed it together and had our sweet potato casserole - and everyone remarked how good it was - now I know how to make it in larger amounts thanks to you.
    Hope you and your family are doing OK.

    My brown sugar ran out this week and I was just going to buy more. Instead, I happened to have a jar of really good mollasses from a local rum distillery in my pantry and made a batch of brown sugar following your instructions. Hit me in the head and call me dumb. Why have I never done this before? In less time than it took to drive the 3 miles to the store and back, I had fresh brown sugar. Thank you so much for showing it CAN be done in small batches. I'll never buy mystery brown sugar again.

    I can't wait to try this. Off to Amazon for molasses. :) I just want to say I've just started watching your videos and I love them. I too am a stay at home mom, and also looking for ways to cut corners and start stock piling my pantry as well. I'm so happy to have come across your channel.

    I had no idea it was that simple. I knew brown sugar was just sugar with molasses in it, but I somehow thought there must be some trick to it. Thank you for showing us how simple this is!
