So for the guitar solo, the guy in the curly hair that made them, he said that he was thinking of sad things while doing the solo, the outro solo is all improvised and is all emotion, so thier goal was also to get some emotion out on guitar. Beautiful song
One of their best songs.First solo is so clean, and painful...i love how Metallica giving all this pain, with lirycs and guitar solos.Papa Het is the best singer, when he says "agony" i really feel his pain and emotions...
I think so too. I’ve seen it a few times. You can tell they’ve been playing with each other for a long time. I like that ending. It is a little different than most other live performances I’ve seen.
This song saved my life so many times. I would listen to it when I was in a dark place. It would just open me up and I would come out feeling refreshed.
that guitar Kirk Hammett played here is called “Greeny”. He is at “one” with that guitar. It is one of the most expensive guitars in the world because of its unique tone. Fade To Black is the best Metallica song, shoots you in the heart and rips your head off.
@@AaliyahCapili Its from 1959. It used to belong to Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac( who modified it to sound like it does ), then Gary Moore had it for a while, then after a few people, eventually Kirk Hammett from Metallica bought it for close to *$2 million* . Peter Green was messing around with it and he put the magnets on backwards among a few other changes that gave that guitar a unique tone.

I agree with you James times his voice to the speed and and song ,Brilliant Aaliyah Kepp em it coming 💯🤘
This song got us through many rough times. The vocal lyrics empathize with the thought people might have but the instrumental ‘lyrics’ give us the strength to survive through tough times. For more context Metallica was trying to record their 2nd album in Europe. Their contract didn’t include studio time. The tour they were supposed to be on to pay for everything fell through. Most of their equipment got stolen and they had to borrow amps & guitars. They slept on ceiling tiles in a building under construction and eating bologna on hand sandwiches. You can understand why they were in a dark place. Thanks for experiencing this song with us! Please react to Heart performance of Crazy on You in 1977. One of the 1st female lead rock bands.
@@AaliyahCapili Thank you!! Keep going with Metallica, you will discover great songs and performances. You should try "The day that never comes", the live version!! 🤘🏼🎶
Awesome! The live version of this song recorded in NImes, France is even better. It will almost bring you to tears. It's also recorded in an ancient Roman coliseum too, so that helps
There are a loads of clips of metallica performing this song in seattle 1989, james was at his peak during that.... another song which had a similar message is by kix: dont close your eyes.
Old school Metallica fan here. If I'm not mistaken, James wrote the lyrics after someone stole a guitar amp from him, which happened to be an amp that his mother gave him before she died of cancer. This is their best song IMO. Its gotten many of us through dark times
One of the few times I would recommend listening to the studio version. Not that the live version isn’t great. It just grabs you differently. After all that’s how we all first heard the song. You won’t be disappointed. You should do it. Well done on the video ✌️
Hi Aaliyah. Happy Birthday first of all. Love your reactions to Metallica. I've listened to them for many years but a fresh take on them being reacted to. Yes the last guitar solo with the drummer speeding up sounded awesome. Have a great Birthday weekend.
One more factoid @ 14:00 the guitar Kirk Hammett is playing in this song, is his $2 million Greeny. He says he never sleeps in any room without his Greeny
That guitar Kirk Hammit is playing has got a lot of story, it's called "Greeny" cause it originally belonged to Greenwood the Lead guitar of Fleetwood Mac, and he later sold it to one of the best (i dont think you ever reacted to him) guitar players of all time Gary Moore. No wonder that Les Paul sounds good :) Word was the asking price was 2 million but apparently Kirk bought it for much less. Well , she definitely found a good home, he still plays it to this day, so Kirk say :)
I'm glad you are reacting to live performances of Metallica - i have watched a couple of your reactions and i'm enjoying them - if you have the free time i would try to persuade you to listen to the studio version of these songs as well so that you can experience both versions. But i love live performances - so i hope you do more of them. As a side note - i always interpreted this song as the Narrator has chosen to end his life due to his misery - that's the moment when he sings "...NowI will just say goodbye..." But then you have the long instrumental section that follows and ends the song - i always believed that this last instrumental section represents the freeing / liberation of the man's soul - he has ended his life and now his soul is free of the suffering he has long endured. His soul has gone to the other side, so to speak. One last thing - others here may have pointed out to you - that the backstory on this song is that James Hetfield wrote the song when he was just 21 years old - and it was inspired by the real life experience of the band having a bunch of their instruments stolen from them. Seems kind of funny that such a deep and dark song about the suffering and ultimately the release of the human soul was inspired by having their amplifier stolen. But i guess at 21 years old - that amp meant a lot. I'm guessing 60 year old James Hetfield wouldn't assign as much importance to that amp. Anyway - thanks for your reaction.
Awesome reaction! Amazing voice on your behalf. I am not a vocalist by any definition. Loved your reaction to the last guitar solo, noticed during the last guitar solo you gave the 'stank face' meaning you looked like you smelled something bad but were getting into that final solo and song big time!😂 Great job!!

Great reaction video. I have a suggestion for another reaction video: Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo 1984 version) by Queensryche. Geoff Tate was Classically trained, and his NATURAL vocal range is that of a Baritone (about mid-range if I remember correctly). But due to years of study and practice and training Geoff Tate extended his vocal range up to that of a Tenor, and he not only spends most of the song in the 5th Octave, but also hits the higher notes like G and ESPECIALLY the E5 while STILL in normal Head Voice and NOT in Falsetto. But even if you never do a reaction to that song, again GREAT reaction video to this song. And you got a new subscriber.
@ 10:30 when you mentioned the lyrics being "so deep", the band were still kids when they wrote this song. I think James just turned 21. The band had their gear stolen and James was specially bummed because, one of the items stolen was a Marshall amp his mom bought him.
