Love most of the redesign, especially the interior. Stop making the front of pickup trucks taller and flatter. Calling all designers to make a tough looking full size truck with a lower belt line, lower hook and smaller grill.
What are the mpg's for the hybrid? Anyone hating on the twin turbo must drive with tunnel vision. Half the f150s on the road are ecoboost. Had one and it was super fun to drive. Toyota will have no problem selling these. Hope I can get a forest green trd pro hybrid!!!
I would. That's a pretty major change in terms of design. Toyota engineering is outstanding, but I would wait for probably 2024. Kinks can be worked out.
Yeah I think I'll be keeping my 2015 as well. Unless toyota gives me some crazy trade in value but I doubt it. Nothing too enticing over what I already have and the no v8 option that's been tried and true is a big disappointment. Will be interesting to see how well those v6 hold up over the years. Still no heavy duty competition from Toyota.
As a Tacoma owner ill tell you right now, you will NEEEEED a rubber bed mat if you ever want to climb into your bed. That composite becomes a slip and slide with the tiniest amount of moisture.

That SR5 base truck looked really nice there. I think Toyota played it safe, as they always do. The powertrain looks interesting. I was wondering how come they didn't go down the route Ford did. If the Tundra could do what the Ford F-150 with the Powerboost setup does, they would have a real winner. Hopefully Toyota will let you guys go do that winter trip again, that was epic!

Incredible truck. Looks like I'll be holding on to my 2002 Sequoia until she stops moving forward though as EVERYTHING is simpler on the 2002 Sequoia. Again, don't get me wrong as the new Tundra looks out of this world with all the features but I still like simplicity of turning the key & simple knobs & gauges to control AC, radio, etc. vs a touch screen for controls.
Really not liking the odd direction truck styling is going in, mainly with these goofy looking front end/grill/bumper oddities Toyota has almost always did styling to perfection, not to flashy, superbly proportioned, classic yet classy, etc Especially in the 1980s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s 5, 10, even 20+ years old and still looked great! (Personally I think 90s Toyota’s were the best vehicles ever made, in pretty much every single way) Been a little hit and miss the last few years with ones like the 4Runner looking kinda goofy, but they were still doing ok for the most part. But what has been happening lately? (Not just Toyota either) This new Tundra is not going to age well at all... Hell the front bumper/grill area already looks embarrassing Toyota come on, you are better than these goofy styling trends You did NOT get the best reputation in the world from following styling trends. And it’s pretty bad when I just showed two guys that have been Toyota loyalists for 30+ years and they just laughed at this and both said almost simultaneously “NOPE! Not getting one of those!” Come on, get your act together, and don’t be following brands like BMW into the styling toilet
Omg i really hope you can take it through the snow again @toyota please let them. I have watched that video more then once and if you make a new i will probably do it again
Great review guys. Personally, there is nothing here that makes me want to sell my current Tundra. Not only that but these trucks look they are going to be close to $70,000 if not $70k brand new. Maybe in 6-7 years when the refreshed model has come out, the bugs have been worked out on that hybrid twin turbo I'll take a look then. By that point my current Tundra will be 15 years old. Bottom line they are making steps in the right direction.
@@mikefoehr235 I came from a 2015 F-150 Ecoboost and after replacing the barrings int he turbo at 85,000, dealing with a turbo oil leak at around 110,000, and then having to replace the twin turbos at 160,000'ish, I sold the truck in January and bought a 2021 Tundra. I wish I had bought the Tundra the first time. The biggest let down on that Ecoboost is the mpg. When towing it got 7.5 mpg which was absolutely unacceptable. That same 8,000 lbs in the Tundra and I'm getting 10-10.5. The towing capability is the same too. That 5.7L V8 tows as good as the Ecoboost. City mpg is about the same too. Also, I almost like the way the smaller screen fits in the dash better than the larger screen.
Gents, great review. I've heard from other folks this new Tundra was going to be a world's beater or something like that. I've seen new features, features, etc. et al. however, I haven't seen any "wow" numbers. What I did I miss? Cheers mate!
The base engine has way more torque than any other base half ton and the iforce max beats out the powerboost hybrid
@@FAUNASO until the Ford update over the air that increases power over the Toyota. It’s only single digits
@@mattgray6436 Never heard of an engine tune being able to be changed using OTA and even if it can, Toyota could also. Don't really get your argument here lol
@@FAUNASO Toyota doesn’t have ota like Ford. Ford is going to push more power with an ota update along with adding bluecruise self driving. Toyota is nowhere near
Didn't miss too much. The whole world beater thing seems to have been abandoned.
I wanted to like this.... But theres nothing mind blowing about it. There's so many little things to pick apart. The rear qrt panel makes the rear bumper smaller??? Have to use that step when the beds down? No on board pro power like the f150? No front locker like the land cruiser?
Only 1 future half ton will have a front locker. That’s the zr2 Silverado.
@@KTMcaptain for 2022. You dont think the others will follow in 2023 to keep up? You know damn well they will except toyota.
@@TYLERTRANCE it is a clown car youre right!
The top of the touch screen sticks up out of the dash like a sore thumb, Would look sleek if it were flush.
yep. so much room to move the climate control down and have that screen flush with the top. really this whole truck is a horrible design.
That's pretty much all toyotas these days my highlander screen stuck up like that too
I prefer the screen built into the dash and not look like an add-on.
@@rondail5675 exactly
You guys do understand that the screen is high to accommodate an optimal driver’s sight line, right? Sometimes function needs to trump aesthetic.
So GLAD I just got a 2021 V8! See y'all at 300,000+ miles.
OH MY GOD....!!!! Now if I can only convince my wife that it's time to trade in my '05 for one of these!!
Truck looks pretty good overall, sort of wish they had tried to used the 5.0 v8 that Lexus uses in the lc500 otherwise seems solid
Also solid video repping Canada very well!
Looks like about 3 - 4 dozen burgers could fit on that grill.
😅😅😅😅😅
@erik wise
More like 60 ”weiners” on that grill. The kind of people that will buy this mess of a vehicle 🤮😀
To me it looks like a Lego assembled out of different sets..then painted
@@paulhunter9613 ya and 20 burgers.
@9:51 lol @ the check engine light on
Yeah. He explains it.
And?
Get used to it. The 3.5 is under the hood.
Calm down, it’s on because the ignition is in the run position but the motor is not running. Lol
Excellent video!!
Thank you for your review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
R.I.P. Toyota reliability. The 5.7 is bulletproof.
Love most of the redesign, especially the interior. Stop making the front of pickup trucks taller and flatter. Calling all designers to make a tough looking full size truck with a lower belt line, lower hook and smaller grill.
Like a ford.👍
Looks exactly like a Ford !
It just looks like a giant Tacoma. I'm not mad about that.
Haha it really does look like a big Tacoma
I would bet in the next year or two the Tacoma will have the same or similar front end on it
@@SteveB88 oh good Lord dont say that...lol
The grill on this is hideous
What are the mpg's for the hybrid? Anyone hating on the twin turbo must drive with tunnel vision. Half the f150s on the road are ecoboost. Had one and it was super fun to drive. Toyota will have no problem selling these. Hope I can get a forest green trd pro hybrid!!!
"Half the f150s on the road are ecoboost." If you're speaking of NEW sales, it's more like about 75%.
Trucks like these is why I just bought a 78 ford highboy
So much for my Tundra loyalty....
Personally, I think the TRD Pro grille from the last generation looks better. I'll be keeping my 2016 model I think.
I would. That's a pretty major change in terms of design. Toyota engineering is outstanding, but I would wait for probably 2024. Kinks can be worked out.
@@mjk2374 Will need to wait longer than 2024. Toyota needs something better than that 3.5 to put in this half-ton truck.
Big step forward, I own a 2020 tundra and look forward to a new powertrain and rear suspension/boxed frame
Fully equipped, a TRD Pro will be about $80k US. Definitely keeping up with the rest of them price wise, lol…
I said the same thing
Well, there goes it's only competitive advantage outside of quality. It's still lacking modern tech, interior quality, etc. Super disappointing.
@@ROFLWAFFLE1911 couldn't agree with you more...this truck was so hyped as a game changer...sorry it missed the mark which was set by Toyota .
You're NUTS! No way it's 80k! 🤣
With the same manual seat adjustment as my old 83 Honda Civic.
good job with the first look! thanks
As a Tacoma owner ill tell you right now, you will NEEEEED a rubber bed mat if you ever want to climb into your bed. That composite becomes a slip and slide with the tiniest amount of moisture.
This truck looks sharp I will driving around to see you on the road with this truck.
Love both interiors, good job on offering longer bed with crew max , should offer V8 option, and Merica built is big plus 👊🏽...can't wait for the reviews from you guys 👍🏽
Minus the screens that interior is equivalent to a 2010 Daewoo? If you're excited about that you need to get out more.
@@okcmoparguy724 ok bud 🙄
@okcmoparguy
ToyBois get excited when a switch gets moved from one side of the dash to the other, it’s “redesigned” 🤣
@@paulhunter9613 🤣🤣
So a giant Tacoma then.
Great review guys. Much better than anything else I’ve seen so far.
i like that orange color perfect for TUNDRA TRD 🧡🧡🧡
That SR5 base truck looked really nice there. I think Toyota played it safe, as they always do. The powertrain looks interesting. I was wondering how come they didn't go down the route Ford did. If the Tundra could do what the Ford F-150 with the Powerboost setup does, they would have a real winner. Hopefully Toyota will let you guys go do that winter trip again, that was epic!
I agree I’m surprised they didn’t
Manual seat in a 70k truck and no onboard power similar to Ford. I’m disappointed.
@Jean Toronto Raptors They don’t have an option for power seats on the TRD Pro.
@Jean Toronto Raptors They also don’t have an onboard generator like Ford does on any trim.
@Jean Toronto Raptors Which model has a 7.2 kilowatt generator on board?
Awesome video much appreciated, I didn’t know that the TRD PRO was going to have the auto rear step by the tailgate like the platinum. Excellent to know.👍🏼ps this was the best channel I’ve seen in a long time very informative much 411 than the other channels out there, because of that I just subscribed to your channel.👍🏼🙏🏼✌🏼
Sorry one of the first things I think about when I think of a full-size pick up in my country of the United States is quite a bit of sound coming out of the tailpipe very disappointing always love the way that the tundras sounded with a good exhaust!
I'm so happy is have my V-8 Tundra !!!
How do you know it's a TRD PRO? It practically has TRD PRO everywhere on the truck in case you forgot you had a TRD PRO.
The front end is ghastly.
Yeah, I agree, but it's not as ugly as the Silverado.
The front of the Nissan Titan is much better looking.
Looks like a feeding manta ray.
If the grille was 20% smaller i'd be happy with it... I never thought toyota would go into the badge and grille size wars full swing.
I’m sure it will grow on me, it really reminds me of the previous gen f150 grille which I did like
It is, the worst looking truck I've ever seen. They went straight to potato with this design.
We're living in sad times man that free revving 5.7 was a beautiful sounding engine our beloved v8 days are numbered boys sad but true
I only have 92k on my 5.7 and I will work my ass off getting that thing as far as it will go, knowing the future is a sad twin turbo hunk of crap. And it IS a hunk of crap as people will find out over the next 5-10 yrs.
@@funkfarmer7125 yes I agree I have a 02 avalanche with the 5.3 and 309k miles water pump failed around 284k but other than that $240 fix its been a great truck I'm just not ready to see v8's gone completely not yet
How? You can go buy one today brand new or barely used if V8 is your thing

NEW TUNDRA ! KING OF TRUCK !!!!!!!!!!!
The best review yet, no surprise, and I hope Toyota let's you take it on a long road trip again
Great videos. But that truck front end is odd... seems most of the Japan vehicles have a thing for big odd front ends... like big wide open mouths. The sheet metal is not tough looking, kind of city theme... just my opinion.
Too polite - this truck is ugly from all viewing angles.
Like a catfish with its mouth wide open 😂😂😂😂
looks cheap to me , like a kids toy or cartoon
Looks like SHIT!
I really like the actual gauges on the "lower" end model. I like the interior, I like the solid center shift, Im ok with the hybird but I dont want that digital dash. I think Im sticking with the current version for my needs
Hi Wade . I know you don't know me .I just bought a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz SAV. It has the tech gages. I thought I would not like the fake tech gages until I started playing with my truck lol mine has 5 different styles and settings. And the gages suit the mode you in witch is really kool on mine in sport mode a pair of checked flags pop up like fire happens then they turn a very kool black and red and in changes the shift points and timing and sound and steering wheel pressure lol it will no kidding snap your frinkin head man ! It's one of the koolest things ever. If different for any one and you don't have to ever have to rip out the dash again to get what you want agin lol I Promise you won't miss the old one again.
I haven't exactly like any recent Toyota that I can recall. So we had it just hasn't made anything to Tickle My Fancy in quite some time. I'm glad that this new tundra has some looks and what seems to be some performance numbers to go along with everything. Great job Toyota and great job on this video. Thank you guys
Holy gigantic grill and front end Batman!!
You do a great job btw, I watch yours and Tfl 90% of the time
Incredible truck.
Really not liking the odd direction truck styling is going in, mainly with these goofy looking front end/grill/bumper oddities
Toyota has almost always did styling to perfection, not to flashy, superbly proportioned, classic yet classy, etc
Especially in the 1980s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s
5, 10, even 20+ years old and still looked great!
(Personally I think 90s Toyota’s were the best vehicles ever made, in pretty much every single way)
Been a little hit and miss the last few years with ones like the 4Runner looking kinda goofy, but they were still doing ok for the most part.
But what has been happening lately?
(Not just Toyota either)
This new Tundra is not going to age well at all...
Hell the front bumper/grill area already looks embarrassing
Toyota come on, you are better than these goofy styling trends
You did NOT get the best reputation in the world from following styling trends.
And it’s pretty bad when I just showed two guys that have been Toyota loyalists for 30+ years and they just laughed at this and both said almost simultaneously “NOPE! Not getting one of those!”
Come on, get your act together, and don’t be following brands like BMW into the styling toilet
Ye it looks like garbage
Let me guess, you're about 52?
The TRD and Toyota badging is out of hand. It's like someone went to auto zone and bought 20 stick on badges and went crazy on the truck. Tacky...
Omg i really hope you can take it through the snow again @toyota please let them. I have watched that video more then once and if you make a new i will probably do it again
Yes you can. Front grill is an open snow blower.
Gee, I was hoping they would make the front grill BIGGER!!
I’ll be owning this truck.
My 20 has 16 000 kms...barely broken in. I am no turbo fan. I think the V8 is a real good engine
Tundra for me in the double cab TRD Pro is 15 mpg and the Ecoboost Ford was 16 city.
@@SuperSnakePlissken I had a 13 Tacoma and my cousin got a TTV6 F150 around the same time. 3 years ago she had to replace the chain. Dealer quote was $2500 CAD. My Tacoma needed a hub/bearing and I chose to replace rear springs. The Tacoma was a great truck but I needed more towing power. My 20 TRD OFF ROAD has plenty of power and towing is a dream. The best economy i saw was 12.4 L/100 kms to 13.5 L/100 kms. That is not really that bad. I left my camp drove 700 kms to home and still had a 1/4 tank of fuel. Tank size is 140 litres. The Tundra is a great truck. I sure like mine. Issues so far....dead and crapped battery at 6 months and a new tire at one year due to side wall bulge.
It does sound like they are heading in a good direction.
The nice thing is that because of the way the world is seeming to go, fuel mileage will be better.
So it won’t cost so much if you want to..
I dunno…
Escape from New York.
Truck looks absolutely hideous! Very disjointed and unfinished. Almost a decade for that crap!! Please! Announcing the new and unimpressive...."Toyota Blunder!"
I’ll stick with my 2008. It’s paid for and already has over 200k on the odometer. I don’t have to worry about it getting dinged up. 😂 No offense, but not impressed. It looks like a person will be driving a computer.
Ditto.
Ford trailer backup assist will drive the trailer straight back, hands off wheel.
Actually, you turn the knob and the truck turns the wheel itself. It's a drive by wire system, very cool.
Awesome truck! Thanks for showing the lower trims.
You must be on payroll!
