    Andre- I've has my problems with a lot of TFL stuff, but you did a brilliant job on the Tundra launch. You've asked a lot of great questions, and Sweers went into detail on many questions I had, especially about the frame and engines. I'm an auto journalist myself (I've been doing cars and motorcycles for over 20 years), and although I rarely go to launches these days due to time constraints, hopefully we'll run into each other one day and I can share a beverage. Keep up the great work-

    I never considered a Toyota vehicle. This is an amazing truck. I may leave my American truck for this. See you in 18 months. 12k towing is more than I ever need but sounds exciting. 1,270lbs of payload in the 1794 model that Andre viewed to me is not the most capable towing machine. I want to be able to drive a fully loaded half ton, with my family, some gear in the back, camper in tow. Mike the engineer said that he didn't want to get into the capacity wars with the other manufacturers, but that he wanted the most capable. Isn't payload important when it comes to capability? I don't want to drive a base model to try and achieve 1,800lbs payload capacity. There's so much to like about this new Tundra, but the payload is a huge miss!!

    Great truck - i am potentially interested but the payload for a well-loaded truck is too low and I dont want the base truck. I have a Titan XD loaded and have about 1,850 lbs payload. I appreciate what the guy says about towing. Just because another truck has 300lbs or 1000lbs on you, doesn’t mean it’s fun doing that. And if you’re consistently towing 12000lbs then you should probably be driving an HD truck in the first place.
    1/2 ton trucks are more for daily driver convenience, capability, and reliability than a max tow rating. I’m hopeful this truck has all of that and is extremely successful.

Spent 3 there and 9 years in fort hood, my car was very reliable and didn’t have any major issue with it. I understand what the main engineer goals and fully understand what his mission is. Give a very reliable truck with very good updates, towing stability, and much more. I like the way he thinks, take some of the good things, from every flat form. Combine it all and minor adjustments, and there you have it. I would like to own one. By the way y’all, good morning from San Antonio Texas.

    Overall the design has grown on me now that I’ve seen in in 3D so to speak. Still not a fan of that goofy bezel that wraps around the grill and continues into the bumper. Or the bumper itself. Though the TRD Pro trim makes it less noticeable. I was scratching my head as to why that area of the truck looked like an N64 render, all strangely angular and proportioned. Then the designer touched on the aero and that being the driving force for the shape and I thought that was neat. Still hate it. But nice to understand the reasoning. I like the variety in grills, the color choices are great so far, interior is a huge step up. Is it the class leader in specs? No. But I think they thoughtfully appointed it with features and specs that would fit most needs and applications. It’s not a heavy duty in 1500 skin. For now I’m happy with my first gen. Looking forward to more coverage from TFL and looking ahead to the 4Runner and Sequoia. Great work Andre! Thank you.

    "I'm a truck guy so I don't really care about fuel economy" No, you're an overpaid Engineer that makes a crap ton of money so it doesn't matter to you. Driving a work van right now that gets generously 15 mpg at 3.50 a gallon we're spending around 1k dollars a month in fuel, 12k a year, in 3 years that's a brand new van costs in fuel. I really hate when people say 'It's a truck no one cares about fuel economy' Obviously you've never ran a business that uses vehicles. I have a gas 1 ton GMC Sierra crew cab long bed that when I tow my 13-14k pound fifth wheel at high speeds I might get 4 mpg, sometimes 6 and if I'm lucky 7-8. I didn't buy the truck for fuel economy I bought it because it's a bullet proof motor and transmission but don't tell me getting single digit fuel economy when towing is a super fun experience. If I made a couple hundred grand a year or better I wouldn't care either, but not many people make that much.

  • @Rod-zg5sy
    @Rod-zg5sy 2 роки тому +1

    I have the new 2022 Toyota Tundra with two wheel drive and my two big serious issues occur when I'm towing a travel trailer. The first serious issue occurs when I try and go up a gravel road on a grade and the tires start spinning. What happens, is that the traction control will engage and keep slowing down the vehicle every time a tire slips and it keeps slowing down all the way to the point where the engine bogs down and you literally cannot move. I tried disengaging the traction control completely even following UA-cam reviews on how to do this but for some reason the system is programmed to come back on after few seconds automatically, whether I turn it back on or not. This is very very bad and dangerous when you need traction the most on a gravel road going up an incline. I literally had to back the trailer down a blind turn for 200 ft, twice because I attempted to go back up again with chains and that didn't improve the situation at all. This issue needs to be fixed by Toyota. You could literally become trapped when you're towing a trailer on a winding narrow Gravel Road. And the second issue also occurs only when you're pulling a trailer. And that is when I'm trying to use Lane Trace control where the steering wheel will actually keep you in the lane. But, when you plug in to the trailer wiring harness it will suddenly go off and there is absolutely no way to turn it back on while you're hooked up to a travel trailer and this is a bad feature also because this is when I needed the lane tracing the most, so that I won't be muscling the steering wheel as I have severe arthritis in both hands. I've had the lane tracing feature on other Toyotas that I added aftermarket Towing and I was able to still use the lane tracing, which was a big help in pulling a trailer. What were these engineer programmers thinking when they decided to automatically disengage Lane tracing when your Towing??? I don't get it! Don't they test this out in the real world before they decide to commit to these changes? Would you please do a review of this situation towing a trailer for yourself so you can see what I mean? And do it with a two-wheel drive Tundra, as I don't think you're going to have this problem with four-wheel drive as you can disengage the traction control system on four-wheel drive. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Rod Terrell

    • @kevinthomes1046
      @kevinthomes1046 3 роки тому

      Don't worry about published payload. Look at the axel weights and deduct truck weight. GVWR is used for regulations. I have a Ram 2500 with a 6.7 that has 1900lbs payload. The truck weighs just over 8,000lbs and the GVWR is set at 10,000lbs. My axel weight is actually 12,500lbs. Weight on the axel is what matters.

    • @cc-hc1dr
      @cc-hc1dr 3 роки тому

    • @kevinthomes1046
      @kevinthomes1046 3 роки тому +1

      @@cc-hc1dr The gvwr is a number they choose. It cannot exceed the axel weight ratings but can be less than the axel weight ratings. In the Tundra's case the gvwr it is about 300lbs less than the axel combined weight rating. So you can add 300lbs more to the Tundra and not exceed your axel weight ratings. I think the rear axel weight rating on the Tundra is 3600+lbs. So you cannot have more weight than that on the rear axel. The front axel is 3900+lbs. If the truck can tow 12,000lbs then the truck can handle this extra 300lbs. If you want to know how much you can tow then weigh the rear axel with empty truck and you will know how much tongue weight you can have on the truck and weight of the trailer. This is how they reached their 12,000lb towing claims. I would think they are using 10% on the bumper pull weight to get the 12,000lb claim. They can't reach that 12,000lbs on a gooseneck. The tongue weight is to high. I hope this helps.
