I swear justin is the most humble cat out there. For me personally its musicians like him who inspire me the most. As for cory, no words. Extraordinary. Great musical time to learn an instrument.
Cory Henry along with Quinnell Gaskins and Jonathan Powell have opened up my ear. Just got back into music after years of not playing continuously and my hunger is high....These cats are humble which makes them even more anointed.
I think out of all the vids I've seen Corey in this ranks in the top three for me wow! And dont sleep on the drummer. If it wasnt for his feel for knowing when shift mood keep tempo etc this shed would fell flat
the line at about 1:50 - 1:57 is unheard of....cant help repeating it....awesome talent. Love u Henry. Please come to South Africa and serenade us with First Steps...bought the album on itunes after i came across your videos on youtube
Whys everyone trying to compare and see who won? Who cares!!!!! Both these guys are some of the best at their craft right now. There both beasts. No one can do stuff they can. They both no theory but theory dosent make you any good if you don’t know how to apply it to your playing. Y’all got this all wrong 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️. Just watch and enjoy just like both Corey and Justin were enjoying. They weren’t trying to compete at all.
Great comment.Thinking about this as a competition is shallow thinking.Cory did the same thing with Shaun Martin here ua-cam.com/video/i2QV5KwwXiM/v-deo.html from around 11:30. It's for fun, they weren't competing.
@namuxtree Those are modes. There's some locrian, dorian and more in there. Your boy is gifted, but he's also been to school which makes for a powerful annointing. You'd be surprised how many of these cats have.
@csharp57 Dude come back in about 7 years after your ability to comprehend this level of musicianship... Cory was in an outer orbit when ever he wanted he came back down to earth.... just pray doc.
whole-tone madness mixed in with modes...but Cory has all those Jan Hammer and Chick-isms that are legato and therefore relatively hard to pull off smoothly for any bass player...except maybe Marcus or Henrik Linder :-) Marcus is probably one of the few bass players with the musical vocabulary (and improv execution skills) to get in a "cuttin' contest" with Cory...and get an equal amount of reaction from the crowd :-)
Judah Yumul Cory has an extended harmonic sense, like Allan Holdsworth, Jan Hammer and George Duke, which can't be learned in academia :-) Michael League is an above average bass player and killer composer, but I've never heard him play anything during a solo that made me go "holy shit! what did he just do?" Marcus...yes...Jaco...yes...Gary Willis...yes...Henrik...yes, but not Michael League.
bourgeoisbrats Last time I checked, Cory never went to school for music theory. Actually , Most of the greatest musicians never went to academia. In fact, schools were built just to teach other people whatt they were playing.
It's always about who is the best or as you all say a beast. That's why people have video cameras and record it its so hard to get the true beast of organ and keyboard to show you some chords or licks
@Truusoul , we have them every once and awhile , why don't you come out to trinity temple in New Haven , CT , June 24th. My praise team is having our CD benefit concert , and alot of other choirs and groups will be there is support of us .
YOU ARE SOOO RIGHT! I know a lot of great musicians and when you go to them they AIN'T SHARING NOTHING WITH YOU! As if they were born doing what they are doing or something?!! That's why when people ask me where did you get that run or show my that chord, I'm glad to share because I'M ALWAYS LEARNING and I surely don't think I'm too high and mighty to help my fellow musician/singer. I'm just saying!
Music has absolutely nothing to do with 'killing' or even competing with your fellow musicians. It's is an expressive art form, bandmates are your brothers. Music is NOT a sport.
Not only Cory knows his theory he is an child prodigy too which I've seen Cory playing for the holy convocation service since he was 5 or 6. He was killin then he was all in the news paper
Anybody else that wants to come out is more then welcome , its for the Greater Works deliverance intl. min. Praise team "Another dimension" under the leadership lf Apostle Kelvin Newton, come out and support a kingdom work.
This guy did though. Most Black musicians from the states DID grow up playing and singing in church, and that would account for most of the good music being played around the world today am I right?
People, it's for fun, they weren't competing...jeepers!!😬Cory did the same thing Shaun Martin here ua-cam.com/video/i2QV5KwwXiM/v-deo.html from around 11:30.
@xdyingfetusx69 it's in our roots, sir!!! Music its self is in black people's roots, not only jazz.....gospel, r& B, rock, etc.....it's in our roots......
@jsmck85 Not baggin on you homie but that's the point of a shed. You share chords you listen to hear different arrangements and combos that you haven't thought of. It helps you get better. Kinda like how ball players play against people who are better than them to get better. Same thing here.
Still watching this 11 years later...amazing vibe
I swear justin is the most humble cat out there. For me personally its musicians like him who inspire me the most. As for cory, no words. Extraordinary. Great musical time to learn an instrument.
Theory won't necessarily make anyone a great musician,it enhances the talent you're born with.
Cory is on another level.
Lies

LOOL! I Love when that guy said "yo he knows theory yall"
He dawg int no theory doc lol meaning they dont need it to perform like this
Both of them are incredibly gifted, hard-working musicians. This is a special moment
Some of the best musicians I ever heard in my life are in the Church. unreal!

It’s funny he knew Justin was having issues with that diminished scale so he kept revisiting it lol
From a fellow bassist. This is tight.
This videos of Cory Henry are all addictive .
I think out of all the vids I've seen Corey in this ranks in the top three for me wow! And dont sleep on the drummer. If it wasnt for his feel for knowing when shift mood keep tempo etc this shed would fell flat

INSANE MUSICIANSHIP!!!!!!!!!!
the line at about 1:50 - 1:57 is unheard of....cant help repeating it....awesome talent. Love u Henry. Please come to South Africa and serenade us with First Steps...bought the album on itunes after i came across your videos on youtube
woow!! i watch this video every day!!
I would think that the outcome would be different if that was Robert "bubby" Lewis
Fred hubbard your right, bubby is totally different level, his playing is out of this world
Hadrian Fereud
You damn right 😂 bubby’s thoughts on solo lines are ridiculous and could probably go past what this version of Cory knows
I think Justin did just fine. Buby would have also been good or even Daric Bennet
both these cats is bad! nothing like a good ol fashioned battle then coming together to create Good Muzik! that was sick!
One instrument both Justin and Cory play in common is the instruments I started with : Drums and Percussion
JESUS! their runs are soooooooooooo clean
da bass playa was killing too yo!!!

you were doing great until you said no can do what they can. I know you did not mean that.
Good stuff .
1:20 - 1:50 Makes me want to hit myself with a music book....

there was no competition... it was all in fun
I cant even do half of this playin seriously!!!! AMAZING!!!!

:-}O{ AN EMBRASURE OF CHOPS TO THAT...STAY BLESSED & ALWAYS KEEP ON BEING BLESSING.....

+bourgeoisbrats true, I ll go for gary willis then marcus miller
Two different players but Gary Willis a beast on the bass man he is good.
You obviously don't know (or didn't know at the time of this post) Hadrien Feraud
Amazing!

thats wonderful
that's super high level jamming
OMG!!! SERIOUSLY??? THIS 2 HOT!!!
I believe i just found new role models! lol Y'All blazed the licks SUN!!!
You can tell Bach lives on in Corey.
Why are these guys in the comments section comparing a synth/ keys player to a bass player? That's ridiculous 🤣
Get outta here!

Damn....so good! Keep it together......Focus on the melody....The gaps between the notes count double....Amazing!!
This is so not fair. Cory should rather do this with Sharay Reed 😏
i think i'm gonna shed this for the next year
MODES MODES and MODES...he didnt say "he know theory doc" for a reason...it opens your mind to another world.
Who else think Cory Henry killed Justin raines lol

Use headphones next time
@@danobrien9925 exactly, it's a laguage, a conversation
Music is still sport, don't delude yourself. The only thing you can do as a musician is humble yourself.

4:32 had me like

2.34 tho all of them on another lvl tho
That's not the easiest tempo for a bass player to solo... Great job though!
WOOOOOW. DATS CRAZY.
justin RAINES KIILLLLS.
COREY KILLLLLS.
THEY BOTH KILLLLLLLL LOOL.
some dude always has to say in a shed video "he know theory"
3:25 to the rest of the video was straight fire 💥💥
Almost a classic music lick
HAHAHAH....... " he know theory doc!" hahahah he does lol
Kinda felt for the bass player whoa!
Wow!!!that's all eye can say!!!

it was over at 1:56 blown away.....lol
lol agreed. no response to that monster line
All harmonic minor lines from Chopin and Bach
Yet people say church is for talent-less musicians...i'd like to see y'all try what they did.
Kyla M. ha, almost if not every great musicians grow up in church
Derrick Anderson Exactly
This guy did though. Most Black musicians from the states DID grow up playing and singing in church, and that would account for most of the good music being played around the world today am I right?

oow corey man he is a man of god. wooow corey is playing with the keys 1:25
1:23 yes dawg, this is
@DaSoulChild its a MTD
@jameljay1 yea...lol, we made up most of the genres, not to sound extra, but its true.
Is that Ben Williams between Justin Raines and Corey?
i jus dont know how justin play his riffs and chords dat way, there's something about the way he plays dat jus catches my attention over ANY bassist.
Keyboard dude was using alot of the pitch bend. Bassist was mainy using notes with the few shrills. Can't say keys blew away the bass......
Yo said switch, who would want go on after that lol
O_o WHAAATT INSANE
i agree
@jsmck85 Not baggin on you homie but that's the point of a shed. You share chords you listen to hear different arrangements and combos that you haven't thought of. It helps you get better. Kinda like how ball players play against people who are better than them to get better. Same thing here.

at 1:32 Justin plays a chord wif a open note does anyone know wat that was
this guy really saying "ohh *uck" in a church shed?
