It’s 2023 and I’m still grooving! Heard this 10-12 years ago btw. Timeless groove! Who’s still here in 2023?
Yup!! 🔥🔥
Never stop listening this..:)
Bruh I’m still here 😂
im still here also 🙆🎧the best grooves...i first heard it in 2010
Yup, can't get enough of that.
Bigups to whoever recorded this that day.
True. Else no one would have believed. Or may be no one would have been able to describe it either.
Hell yeah. Damn I hate breaking the phone out sometimes but, how valuable is this recording! I need it in my life! Like thousands… millions of others haha

I love being black and this just makes me so happy to see us black men playing gospel instruments 🎸
Love
Black Gospel church on a Sunday is the closest thing we get to Heaven while here on Earth. Everything about this video is fire. From the crowd, the choir, musician interaction. It's magical.
Haleluiah
Where is this church exactly? 😊
Who is still watching this in 2020? ✋🏽
✋🏼
Me! Here in Brazil.
✋🏿
Arthur, in San Francisco, seriously considering finding a new instrument to play. Notice the other Bass player just put his instrument down, down and turned over !

When the drummer and bassist are locked in.... it's magical man.
FACTS
it isnt magical,,,,,its God powerrrrrr
Check out Matt harlpen and Molly get food from periphery
1:54-2:04 🔥🔥🔥
I agree ! I think they were so connected that from the first note that Sharay played together with the drummer with absurd precision and even when he paused when he came back at the right time, these are things worthy of being seen, who knows, maybe he'll play live!
As an aspired bassist, it’s a tradition to always return to this masterpiece
The camera man need a Grammy. This video rock the bass community like never before.
Can we all just appreciate that snare for a second
Lol
Cranked!!!
That MJ remember the time snare
He Killin it too......I miss church like this smh
Love that "spin Doctors" sound
I would pay for a good quality version of this song, it's so groovy.
I found one here. ua-cam.com/video/VIVSUP73laA/v-deo.html
My dudes, the song was recorded live and uploaded to Spotify 👌
@@jake_smith7219 Oh shit, where exactly?
@@jake_smith7219 Thanks babe. Crap I don't have spotify so I can't listen to it, but now I feel like getting it just for the song.
@@jake_smith7219 Oh it's the same as in the video. Eh too bad.
2:07 That's the definition of blowing off the roof of a place right there! Gives me goosebumps every single time!
I agree, I also point out that from the beginning Sharay's presentation was intense until the end! That's what I like to see! for he was aware of everything he was doing. Nowadays, I don't know if he would be able to do that... because the producers are in the ear by the talkback saying: less note... This takes all the shine out of the presentation.
for real, the accomplishment on his face after hitting that lick! musician to musician, best feeling! joy to the world! ⭐️🔥🙏🏽
Gather here if you pressed the time 2:07 more than twice 😊😂 Wooooow!!!
Whole choir loving it
I've watched a lot of bass videos but keeps coming back to this monumental moment in bass playing. It just gives me a stank face everytime I hear it even though I've heard it a hundred times already.
4:36 If you notice... Sharay enjoyed more a pause than anything else during the song. It's amazing how important silence is in music.
David Navarrete: that's because after the pause you get to come back with a new perspective.😎
I agree
@@Alan-ps8kz Thank you sir.
Its so much more beautiful considering they paused on the two, and came back in on beat 1. Definitely have to incorporate that myself now.
Definitely some space within the pace makes for an even greater groove on the whole and within the transitions in a song.
after 10 years, can't get enough
pls cover
True!!!!
Zahrul atharinafi I’m on it!!!! Lol

2021 and i am still here
That other bass player was like "why did I even bring my bass today?"
Drebin_0930 😂😂😂
I’ve been that bass player before 😭🤦🏾♂️
Damn
🤣🤣🤣
😂 😂
Everybody sleeps on this ONE RIGHT HERE! 2:43-2:49! INCREDIBLE!
This is single best bass performance in history of music, change my mind
Sharay is fantastic, but that drummer is on point just as much!!
There is no brotherhood stronger than a good bass player and drummer.
Drummers a beast too!!
It's gospel, all the musicians involved are always amazing
@@tbassrollin5990 he sure is !!
@@cbluenote Man that's what I'm thinking about right now...The drummer is on fire. A great combination with Sharay.

13 years has gone by and still this vibe from this performance is amazing. Sherry Reed raised the bar for gospel bass players.
we need a studio version of this. it will never be too late.

Just finished playing a smokin' gig with a jazz/r&b band I'm in. Folks slappin' me on the back, telling me how great my bass playing was. Then I get home and watch this... Looks like I'm gonna have to reach further.
that's the spirit!! always try to be better at what you do.. sky is the limit!
o..i hear ya..but every cat has his own style...big up ya self...
Brock Landers That feel, both this video and some of Doug Johns' did that to me too. Love bass too much at this stage to be discouraged. They're so damn inspiring :)
Brock Landers Not discouraged. Pumped.
Brock Landers Dig that, Brock. Pumped to new push and new joy.
Videographer for the award of a life time. Without them this masterpiece would only be a myth.
I'm from Brazil, and I always watch this video. Very handsome. Glory to God for this!
I declare this jam as a legendary session performance from Reed on bass. He earned the respect of all bass players in history 🔥
Leonard Lopez Yep!
pay attention...young men are crowded at him just to watch him play...he is an inspiration and a role model to these guys...great skills...truly a gift from god...a magnet to keep those guys off the streets...hope he gives lessons cuz they seem really amazed....
Yup, Varo is there, Blackmon is there, Thad is there. and many more of the heavy hitters now
Yes for sure! You can see that everyone is eager to hear the best, I wanted to be there ... This is very inspiring! Usually musicians who see another musician playing perfect and going beyond the normal limit encourage you to study more.
Amen!!
Bruh why do you assume these kids need to be kept off the streets😂
This was a jam. They were all getting ready to play.
This is the best bass and drum player combo I've ever seen in my life😭🔥

It's 2022 and we still got this on repeat !
Some musical moments in time are so precious and sacred and will never occur again no matter how hard you try to replicate.
The guys reactions to the bass riff at 2:06 is priceless .
search up varo on drums he's now one of the biggest gospel drummers
Sharray Reed didn't know he was doing something that would speak to us for ages to come.
It's an evergreen performance. One for the archives.😩❤️

Man, I've been watching this video for 12 years and it always gets me smiling
This video is like the bible of church bass playing… never ceases to amaze me no matter how many times I’ve watched it…
Sharay and this particular video are a blessing to all bassists around the globe!
I worked with a mostly white Christian church for a couple years and I have to say. Black churches look like 100000000 times more fun to attend and perform for. Worship you can feel to your soul with music like this. Amazing playing, amazing music. Amazing vibe.
Some nights I still wake up in a cold sweat thinking about that seamless fall back into the pocket at 2:07
lmaoooo

U made me go bck to listen to it
hahahah
Seriously tho 🤯
Apart from the worship, what a school of music that is. The number of bass players and drummers waiting their turn, learning from each other, the very young kids paying very close attention. Quite some place. So much happening in this video....
I think the bass is perhaps the only instrument on earth that makes people laugh with joy when they hear something good
Nahhh man
This is probably the falsest thing I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
True that ... and make a face like something smells funny in the room.
@@thedjgrayhat3082 Dude you can have that with literally every instrument 😅. I love bass, but how can people agree with this statement lol. You don’t know music then….
That and the electric organ
Gotta give that drummer some props though. He's putting it down.
Off the hook!!

Completely agree... Sharay is nailing it big time, deadnotes, double stops, harmonics, it's all there in a very musical way. But let's not forget that drummer!

that run at 2:06 God himself literally came down jumped in his body and played that part wow #goosebumps
Besides his advanced technique and perfect timing, he mixes it up with so much tasty stuff. He's all over the place yet it's tasteful to the song. I wonder if he worked out this stuff in advance or if he's doing a lot of improvising.
@@BladeJones good question indeed ... hmm possible improvisation
@@BladeJones I just think he's been practicing pentatonics for hours everyday. It's all you need, really, haha. If you do it this well.

Don Moen: ”Don’t overplay”
Sharay Reed: “I can’t hear, busy playing”
wouldn't call this overplaying though.. it all fits together so well.
for some reason I think his comments on overplaying only apply to contemporary.. Sharay's licks fits so well with this because its a gospel rendition that personally my ears have never heard prior to this video
HahahahHhaah. Best comment ever.
A musician should aspire to give the best interpretation to fit the genre and song. “Busy” or not “busy” is relative to the most authentic expression of the music being played. As a worship leader/ musician, I love Don Moen’s music. I don’t think the style Reed is playing would best fit the music I have heard from Don Moen. However, the style of bass that usually is best for Moen’s musical expression would fall grossly in the realm of underplayed and stale even if applied to this gospel song. Not because the bass player is not capable, but because they have chosen an expression that isn’t best for the actual music being played. Authentic interpretation is the real goal.
@@mysterybat35 Agreed
One needs only to visit some black churches and even some white churches in the south. We rock out! Sounds like my childhood church. Just choir rehearsal would be darn near a concert. This brotha killed it! I’ve listened to this a thousand times. And don’t forget my guy on the drums. The young guys around were sucking this up. The spirit was all over them and it was effortless!
Facts! The south don't play about our gospel music!
Time and again I come to watch this groove, it still is one of the best bass + drums
You know how good it is, when you're not even religious, but it makes you want to shout HALLELUJAH!

@ianh How are you agnostic when you "know God doesn't exist"?

That drummer too though! IN the pocket so good! Great player to play with as a bass player.
We all gotta thank the pure soul that decided to record this so that Sharay could share it to the world. There are many more bass players today because of it
This video is the reason I discovered contemporary gospel, and I am eternally grateful! Hope to be able to experience a concert like this in the future in the US! Greetings from Denmark!

IF MY CHURCH HAD MUSIC LIKE THIS, I WOULD BE GOING TO THIS CURCH EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!
🤔 So you’re not looking for God then, You’re looking to attend a concert.
I love the way the guy out front hears Sharay's opening statement and then promptly packs his bass away... and then tucks it away even further, to make sure it's outta sight... .... "What, this bass right hear? Nah, this ain't no bass!!! This is for the woodpile!". Hahaha.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha

2:07- if you don't feel nothing, you are truly a dead soul........
Totally agree
doozerace 3:15 also
+doozerace of course, any self-serving "Christian" who centers on music and culture more than the Christ would feel everything of that bass groove.
Obviously you're not a musician. I'm a Christian. Also a musician. And right now, dat bass player is making a. more joyful noise than you at. this point! :-)

0:54 "Welp, I am not playing after this guy..."
That some Verdine White stuff...that's a compliment.
Right?
lol....I saw that.
This guy's face lol... that was a great catch
I think he was looking at the drummer and thinking, "Hmmm, maybe I could pick up the drums or something other than the bass."
This performance is a synthesis of what music represents for me.
The music that combines, the music of who knows how to listen, the music made by the contribution of each individual who is committed to the realization of the "whole", the music that arouses wonder and dismay on the face of those who watch, the music that make you clap ypur hands over the beat, the music full of feeling, the same one that excites and makes you smile :) Sharay, for sure is a god!
It's Christmastime! It's only right that I watch this video again.
I've watched some of covers of this song and none of them can play the song like he does. His groove is just out of this world.
