What happens when the live bass is not working? "CHAMPAGNE LIFE"

  • ‼️Teaching Moment‼️
I play bass guitar on Champagne Life…but at the top of the show my bass signal wasn’t clear. I use a wireless, and the frequency was interfering with other frequencies causing a break in my signal.
So I called my tech to come and check it out. While he checked it out I switched to Keybass! While my tech is troubleshooting the show can still GO ON as if nothing happened.
@dammothegreat put up a post expressing the importance of bass players being proficient on keybass as well as the bass guitar. Here is a perfect trouble shooting example.
You don’t have to be a keyboard wizard. Younger musicians, specifically bass players, get comfortable with trouble shooting. There’s much more to being a professional bass player than just playing the bass…read that again lol!

Funny how most vocalist gets the Grammy and can't play a lick of music on any instrument. All they can do is grab a microphone and sing, what if something happened to that fat bass then the whole stage is lost without the bottom. Playing bass since 1968 and you're right, to always be preficent on the keyboard as well. I like to always use my patch cord from my bass and give the sound guy a feed from the rear of my Ampeg into his direct box on stage. Sound guys like for bass players to turn they're volume knob on the bass all the way up during sound check. "NOT" I will never give a sound guy all of my hot sauce.... "Can't stop praising his name" Jesus...

So few people appreciate the mastery that goes into this level of musicianship. They come for the show and see the main act, or watch the lead singer in a band, but off to the side, alchemy is being performed by the musicians keeping the cut, and by the audio technicians that make it so that everything is plush. Props!!
