Ian, Scott and Sharon!!!! Thank You again for allowing me to share a little bit of me to your audience! I'm grateful for the connections made and I look forward to working with you all more in the future!!!
Beautiful interview👉
You’re the best Justin! Thanks so much for the hang, the wisdom and the kindness (combined with absolute ferocious playing 😅)
What a champion! You all are!
Thank you Justin for show your self out there I been fallowing you for almost 15 years and you are my example as bass player musician on gospel more than other gospel bass player. keep doing more videos 👊 and stay bless my Brother clean clear and precise ill take that as my lesson
Thanks for the great interview! Can you tell me which Album did you mention exactly? There is Greg Howe, Dennis Chambers and Victor Wooten but I can not find with Richard Bona.. Even on youtube there is no video of them...
The way Scott and Ian are so gracious and respectful to Justin and all of the players they interview is so awesome to see. They show so much respect to these bassists!
🧡🧡🧡
When Justin Raines said that he spent a year on his double thumb technique before he went public, he served up a big dose of perspective on the difference between being able to play a few licks and really have a clean technique.
There is definitely a big difference between the two!
Finally we get into the gospel realm! 😌 nothing but straight 🔥🔥
Justin's description of
"THE POCKET" is THE GREATEST I'VE EVER HEARD.
I had the pleasure of meeting Justin a few years ago. I'd been following him for a few years prior to that. He really disproved the "Never meet your heros" thing. What an incredibly kind, and humble person! Truly inspiring. Thank you for doing this interview, great questions all the way through.
Justin is not only one of the most skilled, gifted, and knowledgeable bassists(and drummers) in the business who has mastered his craft, but he's also an intelligent, humble, and chill dude!!! Everything he plays is a bass masterclass and he's a masterclass of playing fills without overplaying and being a distraction! He reminds me of the late great Aaron Spears who played some INSANE EXTRATERRESTRIAL drum fills and SOME HOW NEVER MISSED THE ONE!!! Yes, he plays some incredible basses but HE makes his basses SING!!! Thank you for an OUTSTANDING INTERVIEW!!! I'm inspired every time I see Justin play and hear him speak!!! Thank God for Justin Raines!!!
Absolutely man! Just wanna throw Matt Ramsey (Kirk Franklin’s bassist)if u didn’t know about him. That guy and Justin Raines are easily top 3 along with Sharay Reed in my opinion. Their playing styles are different but Matt is super melodic with his playing, picking and fills. Check him out if u haven’t!
I notices that he keeps his thumb anchored on the B string yet he keeps the other strings from ringing. I play like that too. (just not nearly as well). Is he using the right hand pinky and the ring finger to mute? I have not been able to make that work, and the floating thumb technique throws me off too.
@@gimmeagig When I switched from 4-string to 5 and 6-string bass, it took me a while and a lot of practice to adjust to the floating thumb technique. It's automatic now even when I play a 4-string. It takes putting in the work and patience.
It's cool to see a Christian gospel bassist on here
Praise sweet baby jesus
Would it matter if he wasn’t Christian? Music has no religion.
Would not matter at all. Music is music right. Gospel Jazz Blues Rock Reggae Punk. Its like when people say Black music, music has no colour 😊 @fross1203
Agree 👍
As opposed to not Christian gospel music?
The real-deals like Justin are always the most humble, encouraging and supportive musicians out there, they are always so generous with their knowledge and do everything in their power to make the whole thing as least intimidating/overwhelming as possible so that you can get there too, imo it's the ultimate act of love towards an aspiring musician, what an amazing soul this guy is!
Man, I wish I had had Justin as a teacher when I started playing. Aside from his excellent practical advice, he has such a gentle, encouraging vibe. 😎♥️
Thank you so much for bringing gospel into the mix
Justin's MTD Saratoga always sounds so clean and well balanced no matter where he is on the neck. I know part of it is just his play-style, but not every bass signal comes out that even throughout the frequency range. Sounds killer!
Combination of a fantastic player and MTD being amazing bass builders!
Thanks so much you two for a great interview.
Ian, I’m 67 years young and still striving on the bass, this was so inspiring.
Justin you are such an inspiration. God Bless and thank you for all of your creativeness.🙏
Justin, such respect! I pray for a quick recovery from your health issues and a new kidney soon brother. You are such a bass inspiration. Thanks Scott and Ian. Your interviews are a real blessing.
I haven’t touched my bass in over a year. So I’m trying to come back to and I needless to say, this has me fired up all over again!
This interview has blessed me in more ways than I can describe. Thank you so much🙏
One of the best interviews. Couldn't just get off the screen
This was such an awesome educational content/interview for me! Thank you!
Scott, this was so great and informative. I watch a lot of your videos and this one with Justin was awesome for bass players like me. Looking to more videos😊 👍
This was one of the best interviews I’ve ever watched! Great job!!
Thanks for having Justin Raines on your show
Such a great perspective about the “no short cuts!” What most people don’t realize about all the professional musicians traveling is the thousands of hours of hard work and practicing and sacrifices they have made to be where they are and play how they play! People just want to know the secret but it’s hard work! Justin is so amazing and so nice!
Thank you Scott and Sharon for bringing out, thank you J'raine for the lecture, it really blesses me a lot.
Greetings! I want to first thank you all for this wonderful and inspiring interview with Justin Raines. I just want to say that I learned a lot from Justin Raines and I really appreciate his humbleness. I can now put in my practice routine some of his wisdom. Again, I just wanted to truly thank you.
What a beautiful humble man. Just a great inspiration! I found myself smiling at so many of his drops of great tips and techniques. Like you said what a treat! God bless you Justin! I learned so much with just my ears today.
Thank you Scott and Ian, Beautiful interview !
🧡🧡🧡
Great questions Scott and Ian, and Justin what an inspiration and humble spirit. Loved it!

🧡🧡🧡
So glad to see Justin being featured in these interviews!!! I love hearing his story, development as a musician and at the same time staying so humble. Thank you Scott and Ian.
🧡🧡🧡
We've actually done several of Israel's songs at my church and I've had the honor of playing bass on those songs. I have so much fun doing it. I don't do it nearly as much justice as Justin does being the originator, but man it's awesome to see the master at work here! Such a big fan!
Facts I love playing his stuff makes you work
Thank you for highlighting Justin on your program.
Watching videos on Scott's Bass Lessons is like watching a good movie for the first time. It is quite enjoyable, informative, entertaining and educational, even without popcorn.
Cheers for that, good to hear you're enjoying the content!
Hey Scott, Now You're crackin' the safe! Gospel music is where all the bass 'beasts' are thriving! There are some ridiculous killas on bass throughout the gospel industry. You're gonna find the most creative grooves and riffs in gospel music. I'm looking at how you two guys are mesmerized by Justin (and rightfully so because Justin is a baaaaad man!)🔥🔥🔥
Hold on to your hats bros. Because there are even more cats in gospel music that will knock your socks off! This was a great interview guys!
Love justins playing and from his replies to UA-cam comments he seems so humble and grounded
Justin Raines is one special musician and an awesome person, God bless him all the days of his life.

Man this interview was such a treat 🙌 and Justin is so humble, this was very nice
Beautiful interview, lots of nuggets/gems. He's a very good Bass Guitarist. His feel and fills remind me of Anthony Jackson; keeping the groove locked yet playing incredible fills.
Great that you recognized my friend John Blackwell (RIP) and Richard Bona, great Musicians who I had the honour of hosting here 👏🏿🖤
Get well soon Brotha Justin, Music needs you 🙏🏿
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤

I have longed so much for so long to own one of your signature Saratoga as my own.
And to Scott and Ian, I love u Guys. You guys have thaught me a lot. God bless you All
One of the more articulate interviews. Lots of useful information.
👍👍👍
Thank you Scott and Ian for this great interview. Justin's ability to distill complex ideas into clear, engaging dialogue was truly commendable. Very inspiring !
Love this guy, he is absolutely amazing! Would love to get more gospel players on here, especially the beast Matt Ramsey!
Justin came to my church in Georgia for a Saturday morning to sit with myself and a few other bass players for a masterclass session on breaking down songs and how bass playing can affect the whole band! He is awesome and always go back to those lessons I learned then to this day!
Interviews like this is why I subscribed to this channel. Thank you guys.
This was wholesome to watch. Keys player here but I learnt a lot! Cant help but imagine what it would be like having Kaybass on here
Not only is he one of the best of what he does, but he’s also one of the most humble.
Absolutely! I saw him plays drums on gospelchops shed sessions and said he is a beast. Then I realized he was one of the bass players too and fell in love with his style. Between that and watching interviews of him I saw that he is really humble.
@@KingdomMinded417 yes! Those were nuts
One of my all time favorite bass players!
Love it! Thank you!
What a fun interview to watch and Justin Raines is so generous in his answers and lessons
It was an absolute pleasure to interview him!
Definitely a master of his craft. Love this interview. The fluidity thing with bass players is different with Richard Bona because not only does he make it sound fluid but he makes it look fluid when he does it. It's hard to describe but Justin does it the same.
What a valuable dialog and information filled interview - bravo Justin, Scott and Ian. Thank you!
I'm really glad that Justin said that everything birthed from the major scale! it makes so much sense!
Great interview, great bass player. Really inspiring. Well done Scott & Ian 🎸
As an amateur church bass player I love the fact that you are digging into the gospel bass world.
Yes, sometimes it seems like a whole world apart.
Thank you!
Thank you for a brilliant interview… absolute gold 🫶
Now there's a player I really enjoy listening and learn so much from... thank you guys!
I love the fact ….and am also amazed that he barely moves his hand when slapping. That’s cool! Love the way he sounds
Total economy of motion!
Salute! 🌏
ThankyousomUch Scott for this Video ...
God Bless You Always ...
Practice, practice, practice. Great interview, great advice 😎🖖
There is one thing to be a gospel legend but the main thing is being a saved legend. His blessing you bro. Great player..
Just. WOW!
🔥🔥🔥
Just stumbled on this channel and love everyones humility and respect for each other.
I started learning guitar on the bass, then learned chords for rhythm guitar and finally combined my rhythm guitar and bass skills to transition to lead guitar, but i'm always awed by the amount of talent i see out there. Respect to all.
Thank you for the interview. Mr Raines is a great musician and he is helping us growing musicians in ways he cannot fully comprehend. May God keep expanding your territory Mr Raines.
Pure gold. Esto es oro puro. Muchas gracias por compartir este conocimiento. Saludos desde Costa Rica! Muchas gracias.
Outstanding
Thanks Scott and Ian. Couple of your well composed questions were same here. Justin, thanks for being kind to us and generous with your knowledge and experience around the bass. Thanks again Scott…so on point!
