  • Which camera LENS should I buy first? The HOLY TRINITY explained!
    In this week's video, I'm going through my top five lenses for all genres of photography; from portraits to photojournalistic work, from travel to outdoor and landscape photography.
    I will explain the concept of 'The Holy Trinity' of lenses, as well as dive into why I personally think a 35mm f/1.4 and an 85mm f/1.4 are the lenses that (with practice) will lead to way more professional-looking photos, that your clients will LOVE you for.
    I am, of course, showing lots of photos to clearly illustrate what the different lenses are good for and what you are capable of achieving with them, so you can decide on what is the right lenses for you, and in which order to get them.

    Really great tips. Think I need to invest in the lens which creates a softer background Was really loving the photographs you showed. Especially the wildlife one 👍

      Serena Alexander So great to hear! Yeah, if you want that shallow depth of field, there’s no way around it. You will never regret getting a fast aperture lens🤗🔥📷

    Getting a Canon RF 24-105 L f4 on Wednesday. Personally love prime lense but excited to try this versatile lens and to start carrying the camera around more when not on gigs :)

    I want to get a good inexpensive camera for Video content. What do you suggest?

    • @ChristianAls
      @ChristianAls  4 роки тому

      Intrinsic Mind It really depends on your budget. Your smartphone can do, but I would highly recommend a dedicated camera for your video activities. I have been vlogging/filming on a Canon G7X Mark II for a few years now, and it has served me well. It has good autofocus, a flip-up lcd-screen and takes surprisingly good stills, too. Only downside, it has no external microphone input, so you’ll have to rely on the in-body microphone (which is actually quite good, as long as you’re staying out of windy conditions). Since there’s just been released a Mark III version, you can grab the Mark II version for $599. And you don’t need any extra accessories to get started (other than an SD-memorycard of course)... go watch the Nusa Penida vlog on my channel to see and hear the camera in use! I hope this helps you out🤗

      Social Confidence Mastery Yay, I used to shoot a lot with a 50mm 1,4 - both portraits and reportage stuff. But I didn’t bring it to Indonesia. What do you shoot with the 50mm?

    What!?! No 10-18mm. I'm dying to try it exactly because of the warping. My 18-55mm kit just isn't wide enough. I agree with how cool the 85mm can be. I limit myself to three lenes with me. What three lenses would you chose if you could only have three? 🥂

      Yay bro! It really comes down to the job or the trip. If I was to apply your limitation (which I kinda also do), this would be my go-to setups for various styles of shoots:
      ► For a landscape/travel/adventure trip, I would go for the Holy trinity setup + the 2x converter, which would make anything between 16-400mm within my reach - pretty awesome!
      ► For a portrait shoot, I would bring the 35mm, the 85mm, and the 70-200mm (and a reflector screen).
      ► For reportage type photography work, I would bring the 24-105mm, the 35mm, and the 85mm.
      ► For documentary film work, I would bring the 16-35mm, the 24-105mm and the 85mm!
      Thanks for watching, David!

    Your lens line-up is very similar to mine but I'm a hobbyist. The one other lens worth mentioning I feel is the 105mm specialist macro lens. I really enjoy shooting outdoor and indoor macro's especially when you are just chilling and having fun. The other thing I think that is important is weight and ergonomics. If you carry too much and if it is too heavy I won't use all my lenses. I like things to be ultra light and not too big so I can blend in. So I carry the 24-105 f4 and the 70-200 f4 (canon mirrorless weighs 695 grams). The mirrorless systems today are amazing. I will add the 35mm 1.4 to this line-up when they make a mirrorless version but for now this is a dream setup. Cheers for your vid and your insights. ✌👉🆒

      Hi Alfred. Thanks for your support and comment. I actually used to own a 100mm macro lens, which was very cool and light. But I rarely used it and mostly used it in my video work. So I sold it… at a minimum, I carry a 16-35mm, a 24-105mm and a 70-200mm on any landscape photography outing. The 35mm 1,4 I only use occasionally on event shoots…thanks again bro😇🙌

    This is super helpful! I used the good ole' nifty fifty and really like it, but I need to think about other lenses since the 50mm is sooo limiting!

    • @ChristianAls
      @ChristianAls  4 роки тому

      Aida Lawlor I used to shoot super much with a 50mm 1.4, but I felt it was cheaply built and that the focus wasn’t always reliable, so for the past 3 years, I’ve stopped using it completely, and now I just use the 85mm instead. At first you would probably find the 85mm even more limiting, but with practice, you can really get addicted to the smooth look of it, and find yourself using it for much more than just portraits. Thanks for watching 😀🔥
