Spot on mate. It's fine to explain there is no profit to be made for flippers as they aren't the overhyped models but claiming you shouldn't buy is ludicrous. The point these videos don't make is if you want a watch that has missed the hype train you can find one at an AD for list easily without having to jump through hoops - and if there is a wait list it will be a short one.
Spot on, it's quite telling that so many people are only interested in what they can sell them for, instead of actually enjoying what they are. Mine will never be for sale, so don't care what they're worth.
Yachtmaster II is the most complicated Rolex with fly-back chronograph movement, one of the best Rolex watches ever. A Rolex may lose its price, but never its horological value!
Why this infatuation with resale values? I am fortunate to own four Rolex watches that I purchased many years ago. I still have them, and I adore them. The thought of selling them as an investment doesn’t even enter my mind. If someone likes their bi metal Datejust, or Air King, and they are keepers because they like the watches, good luck to them.
I purchased a Hulk at an AD in 2016 with a small discount as it wasn't a hyped model then, but I bought what I liked. I've just recently purchased a Yacht Master II Ref 116688 because again I love the unorthodox look, it's like nothing else in the Rolex catalogue. A very scarce watch and I'll guarantee you a future collectors piece.
I do not buy a watch to sell it, so the Milgauss with green sapphire crystal for me is quite appealing. The Skydweller for me would be on this list, but it is not my list. Thank You!
I only have 1 Rolex, an Explorer 2 which cost 1700 Deutschmark way back in 1984, it came from Wempe in Duesseldorf, it still works , I ordered it with the Jubilee bracelet because I think the standard Rolex bracelet is a bit clunky. It's now worth more than I paid but I don't intend to sell. Working in the Engineering sector, Oil / Gas, Mining etc I looked up the type of steel used, it's a bit soft , (low carbon), but corrosion resistant and takes a nice polish.
Im sorry. But you really don't know enough about watches to run a UA-cam channel. Check out channels like Roman Sharf for the value side and idguy for the design side. Both eclipse you in every possible way.
I have owned Rolex watches since the 1990s. It has been my position that you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it, based on the MSRP. I will not overpay for any watch. I couldn’t enjoy wearing a watch that cost to much.
I currently own the newest reference Air King and plan to acquire all the watches on this video except the 2 tone Datejust. For me, the Air King, Explorer 2 Polar, Yacht Master 2 and Milgauss all have a lot of character and uniqueness to them. Everyone has a Sub or GMT or Datejust 41 and I plan to collect those as well, but they seem to be played out. I have been in rooms where everyone is wearing a Sub or Sea, but my Air King grabs all the attention. I buy the watches like and wear them.
Same here, he was knocking my ym2. I use her for short timing for cooking and like the flyback feature. She has more purpose than just a regatta watch. Have to be more creative before knocking these watches around. And yes you can use the daytona/chronograph if one wishes. I have them both, but prefer to use the ym2, she nice and large, easy to read.😂😂😂😂😂❤❤🎉🎉
C’mon, don’t fool yourself: Nobody, and I mean NOBODY that know a couple of things about watches would praise an Air King. I’m sorry, but it’s the most horrible and shameful watch in the Rolex collection 🤷🏻♂️
@@eduardovillalon7496 So Rolex has been selling a watch for 80 years (Air King since WW2) that is terrible and nobody wants? Sounds like an almost century long business error. Or maybe, just maybe, there is a market for it?
Honestly I sold my Rolexes and most of my expensive watches I have only few left Tudor,Union Glashute,Two Seikos,Raketa,Casio,Stowa and iPhone watch my advice is this if you have a lot of money buy whatever you like but if you are enthusiastic about watches buy cheaper ones i follow the watch market for over 20 years a bought and sold hundreds and hundreds of watches there will never ever gonna be for watches like it was,I never ever lost money on watches and in many cases excellent profits those days are over and will never come back, luckily there are cheaper watches that offer great value I would recommend you in that direction
@ 1:45 it shows the Explorer II with the red long GMT hand, then it shows the 42mm Explorer II with the orange GMT hand, so which one of the two are you referring to?
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MAMACOO I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the AMZWATCH, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Another video telling Rolex sheep to be sheep. Who wants the same 3-4 models that you can go out and find several other people wearing in a single evening? Sheep that’s who!
You know what I thought after watching this video. 😢. Because, I have 2 of these 5 models (Air-king and Milgaus), and borderline, 3rd one, Date just (fortunately it’s a single tone steel one) But you know what, I chose models carefully, waited for them and now feel a proud owner of them.
I’ll never understand all the hate the Yachtmaster ll gets. I have a steel and gold 2 tone YM ll and it’s stunning. I really don’t care about how useful the complication is or what the resale value is. If you’re wealthy enough to own multiple high end watches those things really don’t matter. What matters is how much pleasure I get from it. If you want to invest don’t buy watches, buy Bitcoin!
I own an air king and I love the fact that it is a "not so popular" Rolex. Personally I didn't buy as an investment but purely because i liked the way it looked. However, if the Bloodhound car manages to achieve its goal in 2025, this model of Air King which was styled on the cars original dials which were made by Rolex, may well see a substantial increase in value. Plus it is the only Rolex in the catalogue which shares the same font colours as the official Rolex signage on their stores and offices, enough said 😂
LONDON LEGALS That sounds like "Audit the Audit to me" ... from 4,250 miles away! This video gets a B+. I'll err, "give you the credit you deserve" 😉.. Whilst a clear voice and logically written, it ignores an enormous number of watches eg. Ladies, gold pieces et al.
The stupiest thing to say "collectors items".... Rolex less 1.5 milklion wathces a year A YEAR! F P Journe sells 1000 a year...After an alien invasion, after an Iceage and a Stadion size meteorit you can easly find a few million Rolex...
I would never sell for profit any of my watches, I have, on occasion sold one to a friend because he wanted it really bad but for the most part, videos like this are for watch flippers not collectors.
Those ( Probably Most like myself) that Bought the Rolex Explorer 2 216570 or 226570 , bought them for what They were going to be Used for. And That's, the Rugged lifestyle and the Traveling that also can come with that. It's a TOOL, to be used as a Tool. I Per se, own a Black Dialed 216570 versus the Polar, because the Watch wear Smaller, less Noticeable for Everyday Use. A GMT Master 2 isn't that Kind of watch, and the Sub ( which I've owned 2 before) doesn't give you the GMT Function that comes in Handy. Resellers as a Watch buyer, isn't a true Enthusiast.
Many people that buy the Air King or the Explorer 2 is because they don’t have the money or don’t want to expend the asking prices for the Subs and GMT’s now. I’d prefer to pass before buying those atrocities
Totally disagree. I have a SS Daytona, Dateless Sub, Deepsea, GMT Sprite and I've just bought an AirKing (from an AD). Don't think that people buyer "cheaper" things because they can't afford more, that's fools thinking. I bought the AK as I've always liked it, not because it's all I could afford. Even then, lets not forget that £6500+ for ANY watch is a huge sum of money, so if that is what someone can afford and they want it, then good luck to them. To say they're "atrocities" is a rather insulting. I wouldn't buy a Tesla at any price, but I wouldn't insult someone who did.
@@Ryan-bl8rl Well, the uncomfortable truth is that the Air King is the “Tudor” in the actual Rolex Collection: Nobody really wants it, but it’s like the consolation prize for many when you can’t get a Sub or one of the other more desired models and still can say that you own a Rolex 🤷🏻♂️
@@eduardovillalon7496 I hear you, but I'm still not sure I agree. That's a little like saying the cheapest offering from ANY luxury brand is like a consolation prize, which isn't the case. If I buy a Rolls Royce Ghost does it mean I only did it because I couldn't afford a Phantom, but I still wanted to say I owned a Rolls Royce ? For what it's worth, the hands down worst watch in my collection is my 2001 SS Daytona......it's useless, looses 5 minutes a day despite being serviced multiple times. The Airking is a much better thing at telling the time. Guess I'm just saying that just because people may choose to buyer the cheapest of any brand, does not make it any lesser and does not necessarily mean they can't afford more. That's a very 1980's way of thinking.
Air King, Milgauss and Yacht-mater II are fairly unattractive. While the other two are a bit debatable. To me, these three watches have no character and don't speak to me. But that is my personal opinion. Ultimately it comes down to personal choices. Thank you for posting a nice thought-provoking video.
Crap content 😂 or good for those who can only afford a watch at a time. Just buy whatever watch you like to keep, not to sell in the future and you'll always be happy. If laughable that everyone should buy a GMT or Subs. I personally think it's lame, owning a watch everyone seem to have one. 😂 Go for what you're happy with and don't let someone tell you otherwise. PS. David Beckham own a yellow gold Yacht-Master II and look class. The man got style. PS2. Yacht-Master II is never made for mid crowd. That's why they hold off steel release for general public 😂😂😂
Talks rubbish, all these models sell for over list and thats why theres a waiting list on almost all with the exception of the 18kt gold models which are available woth the exception of the Daytonas.
Just remember nobody wanted the Daytona in the early days ! Buy what you love
Tied of seeing all these videos about what models not to buy. Everyone isn’t looking to resell. Watches are not investments

Milguass Z Blue is definitely on my radar. One I'd keep forever.
I love my Milguass. It is my second Rolex and I bought it primarily because of the green glass look. Great video!

Milgauss Is now discontinued and increasing in price.
Spot on, I'd pass on all five of there; but as a pilot, I've always liked the air king.
Milgauss and Air King are the only two Rolex I am actually interested in...that and a two-tone Sea Dweller - but that's out of reach for now.
What other Rolex has green glass, stunning blue dial underneath it and orange lightning bolt? Milgauss is the last of the Rolex tool watches.
