I remember the official guide for gold and silver went out of it's way to tell you to get and use a lapras, and even told you how to get it (on a friday, in union cave), and I'm so glad it did. It was one of my favourite team members in gen 2 and really carried my team, such an amazing pokemon.
Some of my favorite Pokémon designs are the ones based on extinct animals. Lapras as a plesiosaur with a shell is a very neat gen 1 design. Also this Crystal back sprite is really nice.
Lapras is one of my Gen 1 favorites, it's got such a great balance of bulk and offense, plus access to the Boltbeam combo can be devestating. I'm not that surprised that Thunderbolt doesn't see play here, though, it's got too many other fantastic moves to use here.
Lapras in older gens is an interesting mon, a little slow to get started but once it gets going, whew, it can steamroll quite quickly, hell it even gets BoltBeam for some incredible coverage.
Lapras shows how deadly water and ice is as an offensive type, both cover each other very well. I used this thing in heartgold and my god did it make Lance look like youngster Joey, i was a good 10 levels below him and lapras just one shot his dragonites. Also it has a great shiny.
This typing is also really great in Gen2! Ice moves are great, boost from pryce, nevermeltice, Clair, and Lance. Plus Will, Koga, and Karen have Flying types.
Like many others I really like lapras. It took a long time, but eventually I found one in gen 2 as a kid. I didn't use it much in playthroughs since it's so difficult to get, though. I'm looking forward to seeing how this amazing pokemon will do.
@@gothia6515 It definitely made it feel more special. Getting the tyrogue from the karate king in Mt. Mortar also felt very special. I personally prefer something more like the tyrogue since that requires overcoming a challenge rather than showing up on the right day.
Scott, I just want to say thank you for all the videos you’ve produced. I have been watching your videos for about 2 years now and I’ve watched them all. I love seeing how you’ve developed your overlay throughout the years. I eagerly wait for your videos to come out. Definitely my favorite Pokémon UA-camr. Keep up the great work
A reason the damage formula hasn't changed could be to encourage more training organically. If someone is re-challenging a trainer every few levels then the damage seems really noticeable occasionally. Another reason could be that through 'normal play' certain level ups feel really good/reinforce that training really is the answer in a tight spot.
Bro, I fell in love with these sort of videos because of Jrose and you are not far off his Quality. My advise is do these videos the way you love to do them and don't do what people ask you to do. I love your analytics and little stories. Keep being you bro ❤
Ohhh, you're doing snorlax next? That is my favorite pokemon. And I had a level 100 snorlax on my copy of Pokemon Silver back in the day. The only pokemon I ever leveled to 100 outside of emulators with 3x or 4x speed (or using glitches to make rare candies). Loved that thing as a kid.
I like Lapras, definitely in my top 10 Pokemon, kinda mad that it's a water-ice type, it really feels like it should be a dragon-water or dragon-ice type. Oh well, love you, you endangered Dorry looking Pokemon. Lapras has always been a really strong Pokemon, it's performance doesn't surprise me.
Lapras is adorable and I often nickname mine Nessy or something close to it. Easily my favorite water type that you can get on a Friday which is a nice detail since it is one of the few Pokémon that you can re-battle each Friday if you felt like shiny hunting it before the weekend starts proper. Also in both the anime and in the second movie especially, it is just so happy to be playing in the water. I knew it would perform well in gen 2 but man did it make some waves in its second run. I would say if you played the game on regular speed you could probably save some in-game time up to roughly a few minutes with less movement mistakes. Otherwise, the perfect run is somewhere close to a sub 1-24 and that's if there are no resets with ideal situations. Roughly 1 and a half minutes was lost during the second run due to the Sand Attack reset and some poor play during Bruno where you mashed A too quickly.
Lapras and Gardevoir really taught me about natures and Base stats. In gen 3 I figured them out when lapras was outpacing the base level mons and I always thought it was just the best ever. Then I Looked it all up.
This is the first video i watch from your channel. The edits with the basestats etc are visually pleasing and having the power of moves displayed in comparison to basepower makes it much easier to estimate which move is the best option. This is great when watching the video instead of listening to it while doing something else. Also im very impressed that you adjusted the pp of moves after every turn. That must have been a lot of tedious work! You got a subscription from me!
That's done automatically by his software along with nearly all of the overlay stats. For me, it makes it more impressive that he was able to do that instead of the tedium of manual updates
So I’m playing soulsilver and I started it intentionally on a Friday to get my lapras. I soft reset until I got one with 20+ in def, both spec stats and hp. It’s literally the most useful mon on my team. Split defenses evs and max special attack evs. Thunderbolt, icebeam, surf, psychic. An absolute unit
Fair play. Definitely interesting. I felt that you may have spent some time overtraining in the early game (which wasn't rewarded in late game levels) but that may have been needed. I do think from a playthrough perspective its annoying that Lapras was stuck with watergun as the only stab move till surf. Icy wind or Aurora beam or bubblebeam should be in Lapras's moveset somewhere earlier.
Lapras was and always will be my favorite Pokémon. When I was little I had my dad buy me every rare Lapras card and action figures. Every game you could catch/use I used it and spammed it. Like you said the moves it learns are incredible! My fav!!!❤
Do you have notifications set to all if it's just customized its likely going to skip a few notifications if you have it set to all then it's just UA-cam being UA-cam

The first Lapras I caught in gen 2 was a shiny. Didn’t realize how rare that was until later (because of the red gyarados). Course that doesn’t mean I was lucky in shinys! Gen 2 was the game I played the most but I never knew the odd egg had a high chance of being shiny, I sure never found one
I gotta say, if the goal is "getting through the game with X Pokémon the fastest I can make it", I think picking the Rivals' Starters based on how well the Pokémon can perform against them, rather than picking which one will give you more of a challenge, sounds like it should be choice; after all, even when Starters are particularly uneven between one another (or when they're all really bad), I feel like this offers more strategical depth than just "what might be more fun in the moment during a given fight", akin to when you started to more consistently consider the Rival's teams and the amount of Exp you needed early-game for Butt in Yellow.
For the whitney rematch it sounds like it would be more optimal to use confuse ray first and then start using sing. If you’re only going to use one then confuse ray still sounds better to me since you only need to use it once and body slam can still paralyze while it is confused and you'll need to deal damage eventually anyways.
Mist can be helpful. I played with just Togetic once. I got a lucky Mist with Metronome against Jasmine, so her Steelix's Screech did nothing, so I locked it into Screech with Encore, so her Steelix was stuck.
After watching Squidgy’s videos, the last comment that the haircut brother makes will indicate whether you can get the TM for Return earlier. If the brother mentions your Pokémon looks delighted, then you can get the TM right as you first reach Goldenrod City
Curse might indeed be the best option for the Red fight, I'd believe it. But Lapras has good special attack and the Surf/Thunder/Rain Dance combination, which I can't help but feel might have been even better. Or as an even more wild idea, when you stop in Violet to get the loot and escape ropes, move the mail from Kenya to the teleport Abra (which you shouldn't need as much now that you've got fly) and get the Nightmare TM for when Snorlax rests. It probably wouldn't work, but damn it would make my day to see you try it.
Scott why not go get rain dance in slowpoke well once you have strength ? Rain dance dmg boost surf might have made bruno all one shots aswell 😅 also if you were to manage to get thunder tm it actually never misses in the rain no matter the opponents evasion boosts it seems to ignore the accuracy check(iknow thunder is expensive like 110k but still pretty usefull😅)

The only reason why to me it is even partially ice type, It is based on an extinct creature that somehow survived the extinctions, and the multiple ice ages. Hence it's ice type...
