The reason the jump from level 12 to 13 helped so much against Brock is because of damage rounding thresholds. I learned it from the videos of another Pokemon solo runner, Scott's Thoughts, and it essentially means that reaching a level whose last digit is 3, 5, 8, or 0 will give a larger damage boost than other levels due to the way the damage calculation formula (which includes level in it) rounds damage. I don't think I've ever heard you talk about them before, and those magic numbers might be something to keep in mind for future playthroughs.
This happens because, in the damage calculation, the level influences multiplicatively, but its multiplied by 2 and divided by 5. Since all divisions are rounded down, that means that levels ending on 0, 3, 5 and 8 make a jump in the function so it increases the damage. For example: 10: 10x2 = 20, 20/5 = 4 11: 11x2 = 22, 22/5 = 4.4, rounded down to 4 12: 12x2 = 24, 24/5 = 4.8, rounded down to 4 13: 13x2 = 26, 26/5 = 5.2, rounded down to 5 (damage increases) 14: 14x2 = 28, 28/5 = 5.6, rounded down to 5 15: 15x2 = 30, 30/5 = 6 (damage increases again) Etc...

Always a pleasure to see another gen 1 solo run. Definitely is a strong one but I had a feeling misty might prove a challenge for it. May the day meet you kindly. And as always looking forward to the next one.
34:12 In hindsight: in Gen 3, you'd have to max out the right EV's before you even considered fighting Brock, so it's... technically a more consistent set-up, but even more tedious, _AND_ you have to take into account that certain Pokemon will be forced to take in unhelpful EV's from mandatory trainers, like the "grinding for Ralts' Special EV's" situation in one of your Impossible Challenge videos.
12:07 Surfing Pikachu (and flying Pikachu) are event exclusives in Gen 3. I think Gen 4 also had an event exclusing surfing Pikachu. You can, of course, evolve it into surfing Raichu with a thunderstone. Alolan Raichu, despite clearly surfing on its own tail, cannot learn Surf. In Storm Silver and Sacred Gold, really great ROM Hacks of Soul Silver and Heart Gold that really up the difficult for experienced players without going Kaizo insane, you get gifted a Pikachu in Cianwood City that knows Thunderbolt, Surf, Fly, and Wish. After beating Lt. Surge, you can find him elsewhere in the game where he will trade you a "French Surfing Pikachu".
22:24 - "Sabrina leads with everyone's favourite Pokemon: Kadabra." Not only is my favourite Pokemon *not* Kadabra, it actually *is* Rhyhorn. Incredible coincidence that of all videos to use that line in, you chose to use it here lmao

A 90 lb doofus flailed his paw and scratched my cornea from the center to the edge and now I'm struggling to open both eyes since light going in one somehow hurts the other. So I'm glad I have a video where literally everything is narrated to me, thank you JRose. 😂
Sure
is this a dog?? it can't be a 90 pound cat and idk what other animal you might be talking about i need to know
@soupstoreclothing it's most definitely a dog...
Sure
After 20 years I’m still not sure what I’m looking at whenever I see the R/B Rhyhorn front sprite
its the spikes growing out of its back
Always a happy time, when a new video drops. Thank you=)
My favorite UA-cam channel currently. 🔥
Omg. Been waiting for this!! Tried it a few times and gave up so happy to see it
Always watch these videos before bed. Love the content man keep it up!
I opened this app for the express purpose of watching another video. When I saw this in my feed, I instantly forgot about that other video lol. Thanks for the content, Jrose!
28:24 Hey, that was actually me who asked that, lol! Was surprised that the topic was brought up in the video!
Love the vids, dude!

Jrose11: "We one-shot every one of Koga's Pokémon"
Koga's Weezing on 1HP: Am I a joke to you? *cough wheeze*
Just checked the geodude video to see if I was subscribe at the time. Turn out I discover you in november, 6 months after it first air. Time fly so fast! While comparing geodude run to this one, man the quality of your videos have improve so much! Send you a wave of love for keeping up with those amazing runs!
The crits meme and different creative ways to abuse the badge boosts made this video very entertaining! Thx
I clicked on the email notif for this expecting a literal UA-cam short giving a TL;DR, looks like I know how I'm spending my evening!
7:52 I think this is the first time in this entire series he goes to this part of the S.S. Anne.
I mean, besides the implication that he battled and defated EVERY NPC in the Weedle run, that'd be the only time he went to those routes south of Lavender.
God i love these videos, thanks for so many lately
Love hearing @MyNewSoundtrack remixes!
Great job Jrose I had a feeling that rhyhorn will do better than geodude and keep up the amazing work
The consistency is unreal. Love your Videos Jrose!😄
Whoo! Another Jrose video, I was rewatching the Chuckle video last night.
always a good day when a new video drops, I love your stuff man
Great way to start a brand new week having JRose on a Monday 😂👌🏾
Misty: "So anyway, I started criting"
Those Misty fights at 9:30 are the funniest thing I've seen in a while lmao
I had a pokemon video on my phone while I was setting up for work for the day. I check my desktop and see that the Jrose video dropped and STOPPED WATCHING A POKEMON VIDEO TO WATCH THIS POKEMON VIDEO. Jrose these are so good thank you for doing what you do!
What the heck Jrose! The video was short so I thought Rhyhorn must be amazing, but he wasn't very amazing at all! You really got me this time
my wife and i who both used to do solo runs independently LOVE watching this series and you inspire me to make content of stuff i love. thanks jrose!
I’ve been watching this series for so long and I never get tired of it always exciting to see a new jrose upload 👀
Excellent vid once again dude, love these.
I've been waiting for this episode since the beginning of your epic journey
I can watch and even rewatch jrose vids for hours. Thanks for all the great content and keep it up!
Been looking forward to this one! Thanks jrose!
This was like a double bluff; given the video title, I thought for sure that this would be the time where the video ends early and there's a part 2.
Holy crap I only just noticed how you number your videos in the thumbnail
Jesus...strats on top of strats ...love the content!
No, Jrose, I think you might be attempting to hornswaggle me.
My dude has a formula that is fun to watch!
I love these soooo much!! It made me try a wartortle run on ye old clear purple gameboy(red version) …….. it was fun!!!!
Man i was waiting for this one
Good to see you having fun making these videos😂❤
n1 , did it myself few days ago... thought it would go smoother but i guess i forgot how slow this thing is
I love that i can actually listen to these at work.
It wasn’t until your many years ago comment that I realized were 3.5 years into this lol
That's really awesome having a Rockman type OST playing in the background
this series helped maintain my sanity finishing up paramedic school where my commute to some hospitals was +1hr
Ngl, loving the color pallet
22:24 - "Sabrina leads with everyone's favourite Pokemon: Kadabra."
Not only is my favourite Pokemon *not* Kadabra, it actually *is* Rhyhorn. Incredible coincidence that of all videos to use that line in, you chose to use it here lmao
Ryhorns back sprite is really something else
Thank you jrose for the videos
Oh boy another jrose video! Makes me excited for the month of jrose.
JRose, I love your videos. I only have one question for you. What would you do if you were to play an optimal, "as always", Favorite run? What would that look like? The way your brain works, I am fascinated with how you would digest this request. w
LOL i just posted a video that kinda answers that!
I would love to eventually see Gen 2 Pokémon games! Great series even though I don’t play anymore it’s cool watching these videos!
"Short video" = 34 minutes run time.
Dude you are a gem, please don't change ❤
My bf even loves you now too!!
That was better than expected. I lowkey thought that the short video length meant that it was impossible 😂
Also that Champion battle was fantastic!
Man, you got me with the title! I was certain you had done what you've threatened in the past, ending the video right BEFORE the Elite 4.
The goat returns with another video
Everyday where there is a new Jrose video is a good day :)
21:35
That *was* a speed tie! Won the 25% chance to go first on first turn of dig and second on the second one.
Thanks bro. Appreciate you
Watching this made me realize I’ve never seen Rhyhorn’s chubby back sprite lol. Weird, but love the series!
A lot of those gen 1 back sprites are terrible haha
Look at that beautiful back sprite
It's a shame that you don't have the Real Time listed on your tier chart. It would really help to show how much of the time is luck based and how much a pokemon has a consistent strategy.
I've said this for some time. He says that it's not fair to the pokemon since it's rng..but that also goes to the positive rng too. The real time should be there to show who the true champions are.
