4:29 this is spy main hell, sentry that can't sap, back you can't backstab.
*room you can't escape*
Gaben: The Spy is my favorite class...
*to torture.*
No one to see your disguises, no point in using invisibly
Good.
No stairs to trickstab with
No point in using the revolver.
With the clip brush on the balcony on the Sniper shoot training, it gives me the impression you were to have your very own bots running around the map and going for the Intel, providing for a "realistic" training scenario where you could still win by just vibing as sniper.
That's a good thought. Perhaps you were supposed to have your own scripted berserker pyro, and you had to both defend your pyro, and stop theirs.
kinda funny how the tutorial for the sniper is just shoot
Regard zoomer
A Spy course would have been so helpful for new players to actually understand their class and not do the "I wear a cool suit and can insta kill i must be god" and immediately die like how many new players learn Spy
the best way to learn Spy, is to play 'Holiday punch Hoovy' - you get more HP, less people instantly kill you out of nowhere, and you use literally the exact same melee mechanic- only in a funny way.
@@crazyabe4571 The problem with that is that Holiday Punch is an unlockable item, which not every F2P new player will have access to. And by the time they would've got it, they may have given up on learning the playstyle of Spy or have quit TF2 entirely.
@@crazyabe4571 also heavy is slow guy :((((
@@crazyabe4571
Heavy has no invisibility watch. Or a disguise kit, but disguises are usually ineffective anyway.
damn
training mode in tf2 couldve been much better

It seems that one map labelled as a Soldier training map was actually a Sniper training map as evidenced by some localization key strings prefixed "tra_sniper".
Edit: oh maybe I should watch the full video first before commenting lmao, I see another comment mention Sniper training.
4:21 Yeti Heavy jumpscare
wow nice why wasnt this released
Because it wasn't finished, better question is why they didn't finish them ever lmao
Valve moment
would be appreciated if you specified which songs from the guy you used
that sniper map looks eerily similar to a map from the game "Overkill: Ballistic" which unfortunately failed a few years ago. I don't think the similarity is a coincidence.
These look so cool :o
Heeeey, on the game for xbox befoee you ever update it, I remember doing this.
was there a training overhaul originally planned?
You know, I didn't realize until recently just how horrible TF2's tutorial is. It practically doesn't exist; it's just a basic, barely informational tutorial on how to play a first person shooter, with no tutorials on each class, the intricacies of them, how objectives work, or any aspects of teamwork and communication.
Kinda frustrating to know this game was _this close_ to actually getting a proper tutorial instead of the incomplete, broken mess we have right now.
Soldier training course:
Long range - Rocket Launcher
Close combat - Shotgun
Melee - Shovel
TF2 players:
Long range - Rocket Launcher
Close combat - Rocket Launcher
Melee - Rocket Launcher
@@onemoreoiw4397 direct hit moment
I’ll say it. That sniper warehouse map looks better than Turbine
Actually seems like a Quake map that you could have fun in, with all the verticality and short lines of sight in the middle plus the two balconies for sniper shenanigans.
but of course
Wow so brave
"The team decided it was too much effort to make things for classes other than the Soldier"
Sums it right up doesn't it
Man, if only there was more time to finish the training maps, new players would be able to enjoy the game more.
There was. They could add it in any update.
@@smacznykapec its so sad they dont have any time anymore
@@smacznykapec aaaaany second now...
There look an update!...no wait that's just localization files
Technically we can though, with hammer we can use the same logic. But idk why nobody did it.
Spy actually does have an unused 2nd training course in the final game, and can be accessible by picking Spy in the training menu and typing "map tr_dustbowl" in the console.
@nathan higgers "You are welcome."

Holy shit he does. It's so unfinished even the very first text boxes are incomplete.
These are so cool, it's a major shame that they gave up on finishing it and ended up giving a much more generic tutorial that will leave newbies to learn for themselves through countless painful hours of trial & error.
Painless? You mean painful?
what's crazy is that even if they'd completed these training courses, there'd still be so many hidden mechanics that you'd have almost zero chance of learning just by playing
@@pantuternik Painless. It's a game. An incredibly fun one at that.
@@MrOrgeston brainwashed
@@tylerlackey1175 Been playing this game for over ten years. Back when I started, I learned by playing. Since then, I've never stopped learning about TF2. It doesn't matter how many training maps there are, player motivation will be the sole reason for learning how to be good at the game.
"Sniper has a training map simply called shoot" Fitting.
The fact that most of these are basically finished is the most disheartening part.
actually tr engineer wasnt actually finished
from my own personal testing after the spy segment there would be a pyro segment
i was messing around trying to debug tr engineer and how after spy some invisible text boxes pop up after killing the spy and randomly a friendly pyro spawned in
and also there was gonna be a segment where the sentry is destroyed and you are tasked to reposition
looking at the logic now it seems you would get an entire team
it would consist of a heavy soldier scout another scout another soldier another heavy a pyro and another engineer
while the enemy team would get
medic scout and sniper
This last map looks... Unsettling... Its almost feels like you are in purgatory or something like that
That's what kunai + dead ringer spies get

This would've been such a good idea....
Too bad they couldn't finish it, TF2's problematic tutorial is why people tend to get lost and leave the game early.
I can only assume the Spy map is just a MUCH earlier concept of the one in the final game. Just laying down the basics for the class. Demo’s is honestly an enigma, as it seems like it was intended to be released, but they just never did. Since the text strings have been in the files for years at this point. The Engineer one seems like it had a lot of work put into it before the eventual “we stopped giving a shit, shut it down” nature of TF2’s tutorial.
That Demoman tutorial in particular seemed really useful and I wish they hadn't scrapped it.
I wonder how a Pyro training course would have worked considering that Pyro didn't have airblast when the game released. Like would the text have just read "W+M1 lol good luck"?
Training mode was added in 2010, when Pyro already had his airblast
It would probably tell you to hide behind a corner with your flamethrower equipped and wait for the enemy to arrive. Shoot the enemies outside your flamethrower range with your shotgun.
"Here's a bottomless hole, here's a series of AI running past it- we trust you can do the math yourself."
no you dumb shit it whould read : " W+M1 and be a distraction whilst a real class kills your killer for you you pussy."
as pyro's role origonaly was.
The spy one feels about fitting for how spy is treated ingame
Brain blast idea: what if Valve were to implement the tutorials, as a way for F2P players to be able to use chat and other features? It could serve as a bot filter and as a way to force new players to learn before they hop in
Bots would just breeze past the tutorial in 10 minutes, the scripted nature of the maps makes it potentially TASable so they potentially don’t even need hacks turned on, just a script that inputs at specific times
I feel like I remember playing the demo training map, which shouldn't be possible. Weird.
We really need the training Payload one, I have lost so many games because my teammates don't know how to push the cart
The built-in training maps could really use some improvement. Maybe with the game getting frequently updated again that'll happen soon.
Frequently updated?
@@newagetapes”Frequently updated” is a part of the game’s Steam store description
ha ha frequently updated nice joke brother
@@ahmed4363 Yeah, because "every day, sometimes twice a day" definitely isn't frequent

@@TinyDeskEngineer wait it actually is being updated, last time i played as when they added the snakes
what a shame none of these are in the game even though demo's and engies tutorials work.
It's wild that a 2016 video from FUNKe still plants the problems of tf2 learning tools to this day, things haven't changed
If only instead of putting all that effort into 8 training maps for the soldier, they split up that effort to make 9 training maps, 1 for each class.
tut_spy is the map ever
this just makes me extremely angry at valve at how they shoot themselves in the foot all the time and actively make great things worse because of their shitty work practices
Sniper map probably intended to go from sniper to SMG training
If someone from valve watches shounic: WE NEED THIS. Especially rocket jump training.
Wow, it looks like they could just add that demo/payload tutorial to the game tomorrow if they wanted. They really should.
Spy never really made sense to me as a class until I saw that tutorial map. It really put the class into perspective in a way that nothing else could.
I hate the way Valve operates I hate the way Valve operates I hate the way Valve operates I hate the way Valve operates I hate the way Valve operates
You should make a commentless video about the entirety of these unused missions. That would super cool to watch and observe, as well as show some further cool tips for TF2.
ok so they decided that this is gonna take too much effort to do all 9 classes. so they decided to settle for a simpler tutorial. which is still not for all 9 classes. and they had at least 13 years to finish the simpler version we got. amazing.
Nice video. Now that VScript is in TF2, the community can make better tutorial maps for every class. Am I right?
Perfect world would have been that they did finish and implement the 8 soldier tutorial maps as the first ones you got to play unless you skip the tutorial, then have 1 map for the other 8 classes teaching the fundamental class specific mechanics of each (like with the engi having to defend on dustbowl, demo attacking and learning his arching projectiles, sniper needing to snipe enemies, preferably a better tutorial then that spy one, etc)...
Let soldier be the noob class, he is one of the highest skill ceiling classes and one of the most expressive classes in the game... if any class was to get a 8 map tutorial gauntlet on how do you play its him. Just having that plus the one for each class going into detail would have made all the difference for everyone, we all were noobs at one point and something as basic as that would make tf2's difficulty curve not be such a steep incline requiring outside information
If any consolation, even finishing and implementing the solider tutorial today would be a nice gesture
now I feel bad for every f2p that I've seen that got no idea of what's going on. specially engineers that dont even know they can upgrade their stuff.
tbh a lot of these maps feel more like bloat, not really a fix to the lackluster tutorial. a lot is just "go cap points with bots" or "practice shooting", which you can already do fine in other trainings or the ai mode. let's not act like this was a missed opportunity.
what the game would have really benefited from is teaching the more esoteric mechanics: basics on how other classes work, how knockback sends you flying whether it's from enemy shot or your weapon, how crouch jumps are actually important. would have also loved a map about evading explosives, cause i feel still too many pubbers are really clueless about how this works whereas it should be part of the abc. in any case, you could condense all that in a few maps.
This is tf2 content we've been meaning to watch
Which class is the strongest ingame for solo play?
oh muah god……. Multiple videos uplaoded………….. thank……..
Valve please, why do you do these things
imagine if valve actually updated their game with features they were thinking to do since the beginning... TF2 has so much to do still.
The potential! *NEGLECTED!*
How did you get tr_engineer1 to work properly?
at this point it begs the question, if they had all this, this close to being finished, why sacrifice the longevity and playability for the game by not implementing them? what benefit was there to omitting such an obviously good addition, dare i say, necessary part, of the game?
0:11 it remind me of cs map assault
so this is what a well made training mode for tf2 looks like
They did spy dirty💀
Wish they put this in the game and made it mandatory to play. This to mak it harder to implement new bots. You can't just make an account, you have to use half an hour of training before you can even log onto a valve server. This may have many flaws, but it's better than we have today.

*_HERE? PLACE THE EXIT THERE??_*
that's a good sentry base spot... but... place the exit, _in the middle of _*_open battle ground???_*
I'm so disappointed that valve never finished and released these. Team Fortress 2 can be very hard to get into for new players and it doesn't help that it doesn't have a very good tutorial.
So, they had fully scripted, and completely finished in the case of Demo and Engie, training maps for other classes which would work fine if they touched 'em up a bit and implemented them.
And they just...didn't.
irrc these maps were actually accessible through tf2 tutorial menu, it's just they removed them for some reason after reworking menu again (when ranked released?)
The spy and enginer could of shared a training (they would have less maps focused on them, yet have 2-3 more maps focused on both of them at the same time.)
Nothing gives me more hope as a programmer than knowing a company known for setting standards is lazy as shit.
That building placement in the engineer tutorial is awful. That would’ve reinforced the age old turtling noob trap that new players already struggle with
Tf2 is being ran with sticks and tape, we just need a competent studio who can run this game because valve clearly won't
werent these in the game long ago? am I misremembering? Im pretty sure I did that engineer training course
3:50 that's stupid. Sniper is significantly less complicated than soldier, so designing a training map for him should be easy.
Newbies absolutely need to learn how to PROPERLY deal with sentries...
That's typical valve for you leaving unfinished work
Slightly disappointed at the lack of a silly edit at the end lol, I was so expecting one after gabe said the normal sentence
the only thing training taught me to do was to immediately turn on quick weapon switch.
I feel like they should just add the Demo map already, engineer too.
I got rickrolled by an ad after finishing this one.
First map in intro clip is from counter strike 1.6

The engineer building positions are horrible.
swag tutorials
1:00 why was bro dry humping the cart
4:38 weird cut
this breaks my heart tbh
Why is spy carrying trans intel?
2:06 Why on God's green earth do they have you place the buildings so close to each other in the Engineer training
They're teaching growing Engies to build their nests.
@@NTMonstyAnd also teaching bad positioning (if that demo was a little more to your right, the pipes would’ve landed, and two overheated heavies pincering would make a large opening), and encouraging turtling, as they never even TELL you that the dispenser is for the team, not just you.
3:58 literally zero skill
good video
Valve is the epitome of "Please just fucking ship".
Spy main here!
If someone made full training maps (in the style of the released ones, not these) for the remaining classes with all the programming done do you think they'd consider adding them? Seems like change wise comminity maps are the biggest ones we'll get for now, so if someone made very well made ones that got enough exposure, I wonder if that could truly amount to a meaningful change.
Not looking for any overly pessimistic and overdone replies about why "vavle hates us". Looking for logic based replies.
I NEED MORE i just wanted all the classes easily playable now everyone has to play for 3,000 hours just to get gud
feels bad that valve never finishes/updates tutorials for their games but i also feel like it would also introduce the problem of how much they would have to update them as new stuff gets added/discovered and the tools and methods you use to approach a situation changes
easy to imagine a person coming out of a finished version of these after a few hours and then still getting absolutely domed by something they didn't know existed and get pissed off at that
Is there a console command to make players not gib like in the video? Explosive ragdolls are always funny
3:40 someone in the community will probably do that ngl
The sniper map kinda feels like turbine and 2fort combined ngl
Nice!
Oh my
The fact that they abandonned this should be a crime
