Michelle Morera I’ve gotten my hair done right before work at work... if your stylist isn’t new and they know your hair they can very well book out ample time and get it done in their allotted time GIVEN you’re booked for what you ask for and not something that’ll take longer

I agree! But in the eye's of the client, it's my fault because they don't know all of that and I didn't explain it like I should have. It's frustrating, but that's why we need to do the best we can to communicate!

I know everyone is saying it was the client's fault and all, but it is sooo cool to see a professional saying she messed up. We all make mistakes at work and it is ok. We need to be able to talk about it and learn from each other. The client didn't communicate correctly and she could of just use that as an excuse, but she's ok saying she could have done better, she was the professional in the situation, and use it as a learning opportunity. It is something successful people do. Very refreshing!

I feel like as a client, you book an appointment when you have free time. NOT when you’re on a time crunch.
Also, if you’re making an appointment on a day you have plans, ask how long it usually takes for what you’re asking.
Not the salons fault at all!

I’ve seen lots of people lightened their hair at home going from super dark to really blond. One girl went to a salon first and didn’t get the result she wanted and ended up doing a better job herself. Using gardening gloves. You can go from super dark to super light in one sitting. word to the consumer. PLEASE NEVER ASSUME THE TIME IT TAKES TO GET A SERVICE. im a nail tech and some full sets take one person 45 minutes another 2 hours. we are all not the same and not all circumstances are the same and not every design takes the same amount of time. Ask your stylist first how long it will take to get a certain design on your nails specifically or hair or any service that they are providing.

When you’re lightening extra dark hair you need to do back to back foils, thin sections and keep reapplying 1-3 times with lower volume. It can be possible but if clients want it in 1 session they need all day free and a LOT of $$$$$ 😂

I'm a hairstylist too and have been for 16 years and allot of clients lie about how the last time they had their hair lightened it was done in one session, it really frustates me. If I'm going to be honest with a client then I expect the same in return. So many clients also have no patience when it comes to a complete colour change and it always seems to be the ones with super dark hair that want to be super blonde. I can absolutely relate to your video and you didn't mess it up, you did the best you could in the time you had and she should have told you before that she was limited with time. Some people think doing a colour and cut only takes an hour and when I tell them it could take up to 3 hours they look at me like this 😲 ha. Great video!! 👍😁😊

Girl .. first of all you are beautiful..
Secondly .. this doesnt sound like you failed. #1 she should have mentioned the time constraints at the beginning of the appointment
#2 even if her hair lightened well the first time things can change in a year .. hormones .. medications etc.. alot can effect hair.. however .. incredibly dark usually takes a session or two.
#3 you did the very best with what information you were given.
Consultations are everything. But even then a good consulation can even end with an unhappy client when they are difficult or unrealistic. So sometimes that does isnt even matter.

One time I went and had my hair done by a salon, I did have an inspiration picture but I was fully aware that it's just a picture and pictures dont depict what you are going to get. But basically I was a mohagony brown originally and I wanted a darker brown root with some blonde highlights. I paid $250 leaving so happy with the front looking beautiful. But I got home and showed my husband and as soon as I turned around he gasped and said I had leopard spots of blonde all over the back. I was shocked when I actually seen. I called the store and the manager gave me a full refund, even though all I wanted was for someone to fix it. I was so kind and nice the entire time, and I wasnt being difficult so I'm not sure why they were so quick to give me my money back. It was like the manager knew that she does stuff like this. Needless to say I had to wear my hair up for months because anymore bleach would've done some damage. So that's that...
    Lol

If you make notes on what you have done for the client in the clients accounts so that you know what you used on them and maybe even a result pic added as well. Just so you can remind the client what they used before and what the results were so they understand as well!

What is with people who book all of this stuff at the salon and have somewhere else to be and are in a time crunch? Stop blaming yourself, once again it was her fault for not leaving ample time at the salon. If I think a blow dry will take an hr, I leave at least an hour and a half in not longer before I make an appt for something else bc there is travel time etc. Remember it was not your fault.

I had something like this happen in beauty school. My model for a full head of highlights had to go to work at like 1pm. She came in I believe at 10 am. Granted it was a just full head of highlights but as you're learning you aren’t as quick as an experienced stylist. And even know I take at least 90 minutes to foil a full head. So she wasn't happy really. But when I posted the notice that I needed a model I had literally said they must be free from 9am till 4pm. And she didn't tell me when she needed to go to work until like an hour before hand. And I was so stressed. So I feel you. Her hair wasn’t even fully blown out. 😳 And I believe this was for a test as well. But luckily I did pass because I had a clean lift, no spots etc. But still.

My mom in beauty school had this lady come in for a haircut, and she accidentally cut the sides too short so the woman couldn’t wear her usual hairstyle. She was freaking out, and my mom blended it, and styled it, and once it was styled the woman loved it. She came back to see her several times at the school, and when my mom moved to the next town over to her first salon, the woman followed. And then all her poker friends came wanting the same haircut.
Sometimes mistakes in hair can become fashion- at least it did it my moms case.

Pleeeease do that consultation video!! I am a new stylist (within my first year after state board) and find myself relating to this situation with a client. I feel I need to be better communicating with my clients, so if you have advice for better consultations I’m all ears.

Agreed and double checked that he wanted a #1 guard on top, I checked again, he said yes. Took one pass, he lurched forward and said “are you fu*king stupid. That’s too short.” He went on and on I had no choice but to push forward. I apologized sincerely, been feeling all terrible all day

I've been through this exact same thing only she wanted her hair long still and refused 2 to 3 sessions and wanted it done in one day.. it got fried and she still came back (even though I told her 2 weeks atleast) after 2 days and got it bleached more but not by me.. oh boy it was terrible! But BOTH times she didn't say she needed to be somewhere until 30 mins before she had to be there.. it was frustrating for the whole salon.. so I feel you girl!

Depends on what salon you go to. At the salon I work at, we offer complimentary consultations. I've seen salons charge upwards of $20 for a consultation. I would do some research on a couple salons that interest you 😊

I think as a client you always want a fast result, but everybody also know that it is not how it works. And that is also why if I have to have colored my hair or such, I would never have any appointment after as it could be that something had to be fixed. I have hella thick hair, and most hairdressers have a hard time coloring it. So I always expect being at the salon at least 4 hours, if not a whole day just to be sure. Some would maybe not belive that 😅 A couple of years ago, I really wanted a bloody red haircolor, and the hairdresser promised it was possible, but I know my hair, and as I thought, my hair completely rejected the color. I only got a little orange sheen, but my hair was still brown. I still feel bad for her even today, as she really tried and wanted to keep her promise.

I wish all barbers hear this!! Ones I had a cut om my curly hair and that lady couldn't cut curly hair but didn't want to say it. So I ended up with a really ugly cut and need to chop off all my hair because it was that ugly! After to years my hair is still not the length it was before I went there😣😣

Most seasoned stylist won’t admit that they do anything wrong, I’ve had a stylist tell me she was using Redken color, but I found out it was actually Sally’s color line. I had super nice highlights, loved them. I was in there to get only my roots done, she had someone rinse my hair, someone who had never shampooed hair before, (I was unaware) this person got the root color on my highlights and made them very blotchy, one side of my hair has more highlights than the other now. She styled my hair to where I couldn’t see the mistakes. 3 days later, I shampooed my hair and started my routine, noticed that my hair had broken off, and very blotchy, I called her, she wouldn’t answer, finally when she did I came in, she acted surprised, but I noticed that she was very nervous, her boss wasn’t happy about how my hair looked. So she put a treatment in my hair, put me under the dryer, she decided to “CUT” my hair, it’s shorter now than it’s ever been in my life. She told me, well you’ll have to live with it for now. Folks, I use to do hair years ago, she wasn’t using the proper products in my hair, that I was paying for. I’ve never had broken hair before. I always use good products, masks. I know not to over use things as well. I get my hair done because I like to be pampered. This was an easy appointment, just roots. Now I can’t style my hair in a way that my breakage isn’t noticed. I’m just very disappointed. Why she cut my hair you ask, because I think she was trying to cut out some of the mistakes. I’m sure she her boss had a discussion with her after I left. I know that not all stylist are like this, you should be looking at hair in a professional way, but also with a creative mind, your an artist. Mistakes happen, but to act like you are shocked,(my stylist) please don’t let your clients walk out with color, or cut that you yourself wouldn’t wear. Thank you for explaining what happened, and listening to you, you already know what was wrong and your fixing it, great! Good luck to you, I wish you the best!❤️

Most clients are clueless when it comes to color & will never understand or appreciate how complicated coloring can be. It’s a recipe for disaster when there are unrealistic expectations. As a stylist, I feel it’s the worst part of the business. It’s SO awkward!!

When I was younger like 15 I went to this salon I would get the bottom back of my hair my natural dirty blonde but looked brown with my highlights. Any way this owner of the salon would never ever cut my hair before coloring it. She knew I had a lot of hair and she would be cutting it trimming my side swoop bang and layers plus a good amount cut off well the had to use so much product and it was so expensive. My Mom was a cosmetologist and was so mad. It looked good but I would get added treatments I said I didn't want. It was horrible. So then my Mom had to come with me and discuss everything she's doing and making sure they stuck to their quote. BTW I was only getting touch up's but she did like my whole head that didn't need to be done. It looked amazing but was way too much money. I was so naive. I stopped going there because my family found a better hair dresser. But I went to her for like 6 years because she new my hair history and I don't like switching hair dressers.

She didn't tell you she needed to get ready at x time before the appointment. It's not her job to guess how long your work will take on her, she should've told you so you both could figure out the best day /time for that job.
