i am a 60 year old husband of a 54 year old. i am a mechanic and color my wifes hair for her all the time…now i cut the length and did pretty well. Sam, now she wanted me to do layers. remember i am a mechanic. well i watched your layer tutorial for beginners when u used the mane in…omg it came out great and she is super happy with it. the way u teach is so easy to emulate. you are now my go to teacher!!!!thank you so much! by the way we are from limerick, pa
I’m a hairstylist as well but I don’t do any chemical services. But even with just cutting hair wI have to watch for red flags. I had a client who, as soon as she sat in my chair, started questioning me about how long have I been cutting and my just my skills. Which is fine some clients want to know. I did her consultation and she had a simple pixie cut. She said she doesn’t like to part it because she likes to brush it straight back. She kept saying how she can’t find anyone who can cut her hair right. At the end she was not happy. Even though she said she doesn’t like to part it that is how she kept brushing it. She kept saying it wasn’t laying right but honestly there was nothing wrong. I asked another stylist to help and she was getting mad at her. I knew at this point there is just no making her happy. She doesn’t know what she wants. She left and never came back and that’s ok
Ugh as a stylist it gets so frustrating seeing filtered pictures of blonde platinum hair. They don't say "hey this took 5 appointments" or hey it's a filter" or my hair is baby fine and virgin hair no color" the sad looks I get when a client w thick course black color treated hair and they bring these pictures.... ughhhhhh lol. Oh and they want to pay 80$
I really enjoyed this storytime Sam ❤ sounds like you did everything you could to communicate clearly with your client and try to manage their expectations. That's all you can do. Your hair looks gorgeous btw 🥰 long and healthy, and very cute with the braids in the front
I completely understand how you feel and it's not your fault! Some clients just set unrealistic goals for themselves and no matter what you tell them or how much you educate them they arent going to understand. People dont understand how hard it is to do these type of services especially when their hair is damaged and they aren't educated with hair history. You truly did your best and thats all you can do 🙏
Very true! It sucks, but these things are just unavoidable sometimes. You can do everything "right" and try your best, but some people are just impossible to please.
I would pay top dollar 🤑 to get my hair done by SAM! I've been watching her content from the beginning, and she's the hair stylist I wish I had in my hometown..
As I was watching, I thought back to a wonderful stylist who took me in when I needed a color correction, and she had me sign a waiver confirming I understood what we talked about and the commitment to pricing. And then you said you implemented a waiver and I was like YES QUEEN!!!! Setting expectations and keeping those receipts!!! Love that you know your worth and skill.
Yay a new Sam Vlog! Sitting in Charlotte airport trying to get to Fort Lauderdale for a business trip. Been cancelled once, trying again lol!! Listening to Sam & praying we get out! 🥰🤞
Totally agree about consent forms! Although I used to work for a salon as the receptionist & I would get rude people who wouldn't want to book an appointment because we required a consent form signed & a deposit paid at the time of the booking. Lots of people saying, "I don't have the money for the deposit now but I will have the money for the full appointment then." Huge red flag. I know life happens & you want to be able to get your hair done the second that pay check drops, but most of the time it's people who will get their hair done & then claim they didn't realize that they didn't have enough at the time of the service. (Even though they do or did & are trying to get a free or discounted service).
It's not worth the risk!! I have people fill out a request form and put a credit card on file before I even agree to book them for color appointments, and if that's "too much" or they don't want to do it, then they're obviously not serious about getting their hair done. Like you said, we need that extra insurance to make sure they aren't going to flake the day of!
I’ve been a stylist for forty years and one of the most important things I’ve learned is color correction is a LOT of stress, a LOT of product, a LOT of time, way too unpredictable and and way too much drama for me. People watch too many guy tang videos (I too watch them but for other reasons than a customer would watch them) and think since the video is half an hour long, their service will be that long. Notice how he feeds them lunch because they are there ALL DAY and pay probably several hundred possibly into the thousands for his services. (No shade to guy tang. I love him). I have no patience for customers that can’t decide from one month to the next if they want to be blonde or dark brown. Props to you for even trying. Not me man…I’m out 😂
I have had clients like this. One in particular I did have her sign the paper but I still didn't get paid. Once I did a color that the client loved but she SD I cut her hair too short, so the manager let her leave without paying anything. I don't do hair any longer.
Literally recommended a friend to my hairstylist. Same exact thing happened except she wanted silver from black lol… I explained it would take more than one session as well and she was still really disappointed and hated her hair. She asked why my hair came out “blonde” I hadn’t seen my hair girl in over a year and had been doing coconut oil treatments once a week. Plus the initial Visit was when the black was taken out and I had a brownish caramelish balayage…. Which is not what I wanted but I understood the process because I go back and forth all the time as well lol. I know my girl must hate me lol jk but this last time I went. I waited over a year with that caramelish color and my hair was super healthy so I came out completely blonde. I guess some ppl don’t understand that every hair and case is different.
I just have an experience with a client. Her hair looks exactly like the picture but she didn’t like it and tried to tell me that it was miscommunication!!! How can you miscommunicate a picture and not to mention we went over all the details and even options if she want it to go back to a lighter tone…. Worst case my boss end up giving her a free service when wasn’t even our mistake 😢
this is why i don't take any new color corrections. they are sooo expensive product/time wise, which makes the client's ticket pretty expensive. so when the results don't 100% turn out the way they were hoping for, it gets super awkward. even when you explain all this & the realistic expectations in the consult before starting!
Yes, exactly!! I considered not doing them altogether, but I do enjoy them when they go well. Now I'm just a lot more selective about what corrections I'll do. If there's already a lot of damage and/or their goals seem unrealistic, I won't even bother risking it.
I admit I’m a very difficult client. I want what I want and I know I can achieve it. I wish more stylists would say “I can’t do that” instead of just doing whatever the heck they want! Not saying this is what you did, but I get this a LOT. Needless to say, I fire a lot of hair stylists lolz
Same! The last 3 times i went to a hairdresser I cried cause it was nothing like how I wanted it to be. If you don’t have the skills just tell me upfront. The last one gave me my money back and free products on top of that. She admitted that the new girls working there were not experienced enough and also they got dye all over my white t-shirt even tho I suggested to take it off since I had a tank top underneath. She promised me like 5 times nothing would happen, got home and saw my entire back was black. I walked the entire day through the city like that. My hair is my pride and femininity and I really don’t understand how hair dressers don’t understand how some people can be really picky when it comes to hair. One hairdresser was even rude enough to say: you are so picky I feel sorry for ur future husband ?! I now cut and dye it myself and it looks better than ever cause most of these hairdressers have no talent.
@@ashleerose7770 first of all, I was a hair stylist so I’m aware of what can and can’t be done. A lot of stylists needs to stop assuming that the client doesn’t know what they are saying. I’ve been getting extentions consistently for 10 years. I can immediately tell when a stylist is doing it wrong. Do good work or find another job 🤷🏼♀️
You have to charge to lift it to the desired color she wants what did she think itcwas going to be free every session people can be really crazy 🤪 sometimes.
Love you Sam ❤! I live in NYC so we are fast paced as u know lol 😂 I would go nuts if my salon had “consultation “ before hand ! We just make appointments cz we have built relationships with our stylist and call make app and bammm they do what we want !!! Much respect! But , that wouldn’t be a salon I would even have time for !
If you already had to explain that the color might not be what she wanted it to be over and over and if you already felt like she was lowkey not understanding it or was still hoping and assuming you could just give her the color that she wanted. Why did you go trough with it? Because pretty clearly she still assumed that you could make it work. Other wise she wouldn’t have reacted the way she did. And maybe the reaction wasn’t necessarily towards you. Maybe in that moment it was just a hard pill to swallow that the lifting just wasn’t enough for her liking. She just expressed her being upset; she still payed you and by this story I don’t hear that she belittle your work right. So to call what you experienced with a paying client a ‘horror story’ just for some clout is rude and unprofessional. I would never go to a hairdresser how makes petty video’s like this. Even saying she is Latino? I mainly see woman in these types of professions making these video’s. Like waxing, hair, make-up. If you don’t like it don’t work there, it’s hard physical labor and woman have high beauty standers which is societies fault. You are going to have people not happy with your work and that is not rude nor a horror story. You can’t blame people for what they expect because you don’t even know the outcome yourself.
And what a realistic expectation is is totally subjective. You’re shifting the blame to the client for having certain expectations. So she should go to you expecting the worst or just like mid work? If the expectations that she has are unrealistic according to you than don’t work on her. But you need the money like you said in this video, so we got our answer to what the real issue here is.
Girl hush. 😂😂😂 you wrote all for what? She worked on her because that’s her JOB. Do you stop doing your job because people are iffy. No, all hair is different no stylist can tell you exactly what your hair will do. That’s why there was a consultation.
