My plan is to buy both since I rotate my daily trainers day to day and run 6 days a week. I like have different platforms each day to make sure I avoid some overuse injuries that come from wearing the same shoe. Anyway, if I had to pick just one, it would be Rebel v.4 all the way. I love NB and always opt for the lighter shoe. I'm a heel striker, so the toe cushioning issue would not bother me. Thanks for your review.
I don't run anywhere near that much but I agree with mixing it up for foot/leg health. I rotate out shoes with various drops week to week to keep it fresh and make myself adapt to different feels. It also makes me analyze what I'm feeling through the ground and get a better idea of how different shoes work for me...
x2 I tend to always opt for the lighter shoe...I don't have many short or truly easy days. Heavier shoes aren't bad...when you're running under 5miles. But if you're doing a casual 10k every morning and a 20k on the weekend, lighter shoes win every time so long as I have no foot pain. I generally opt for plated marathon shoes...Endorphin Pro 2 and 3 are my staples, Rebel V3/Puma Nitro Elite/Endorphin Pro 1 (it just fits more snug and feels faster) for track days. I ran my Dallas BMW Half Marathon in the EP3's and they were stellar.
Hi Emily I am not a runner but I have version 1 of both shoes. They are very comfortable to just walk around in. If I was a runner I would find it hard to choose between them. Thanks for the review. Good points raised.
Mostly unrelated, but your camera / lens is so nice! Great comparison. I love seeing comparisons along side reviews because it helps get a better understanding of where a shoe falls into a certain type of running shoe category. Cheers!
I recently bought the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26, and it impressed me with the bounce, less.soft, and more of a firmer foam (vs Gel-Nimbus 25) and how the model is super stable now. The comfort is a bit less them the other model, but this got me excited to try the Nova Blast 4 ! I had the original Nova Blast, and it was fun and all, but the stability and durability of the shoes ... now, if version 4 has a middlesole and guardrails similar to the new Nimbus 26 ,them it will be perfect for me and my overpronation basic needs and I will get the stability to be able to run faster and the shoes will still last a long time .
Nova v3 is pretty soft. In fact one of the softest shoe/foam in the game. V4 got firmer (more springy too) due to change of foam from FF Blast+ to FF Blast+ Eco.@@AuDHDRunner
No contest..the novablast has never worked for me in any of their versions ..the rebel has worked in all the versions although I always thought it suffered from insufficient forefoot cushioning..I put Saucony insoles (not current insoles) in the rebels and makes a great daily trainer up to about 8-9mi and is my favorite TM shoe..
It's very strange but the exact same is true for me. Bought the Novablast 3's after seeing all the reviews on youtube calling it "Shoe of the Year". Racked up about 60 miles in them and hated every run. Didn't even bother with the NB 4. The Rebel v2, 3 and 4 have all been amazing for me though amd had 2 pairs of both the v2 and v3 with around 1200 miles between those 4 pairs.
I love my Rebel v3. I initially hated my novablast 3. I just did a 5mile run in them this morning and they felt great. So weird. I won't give up on them yet.
Good comparison! I really want to love the Novablast but I've bought and then sold both the 2 and the 3, and will pass on the 4. There's just something with the shoe geometry that doesn't work with my gait. It's super comfortable to walk in, but when I run and my foot hits the ground, it feels like a flat slap, it doesn't roll at all. Hard to explain, really... I'm excited to try the Rebel v4 though!
I've only done about 35km in Novablast and love them. I'm a mid-foot / heel striker depending on my mood, and can only do 3-5km because of bad left knee from decades of Tennis. The heel is sooo plush and actually makes you want to heel strike just so you can feel the cushion and bounce. The only improvement for someone like me is to have a lot more rocker. I bought a NB More V4 a few weeks ago (because I love the V3) and the rocker and bounce on that is so good.
Thanls for the video! I picked up the novablasts 4 last month and was thinking about the NB rebel v4 but didnt notice they are quite similar. Maybe I'll look at trying something a little more different instead 😊
Appreciate the comparison - makes me curious about the Novablast 4 - I tried to enjoy the 3 and just couldn't. So I will likely go for the Rebel when it comes out, but now I think I'd give the Novablast 4 a chance if a pair came my way
I got Novablast 4 two weeks ago and love the feeling when I run in them but I live in Hawai and the woven upper makes it overheat for me as it's warm all year round. Now I feel like I should have got NB Rebel V4.
I am planning to buy later.. I am thinking of buying novablast.. that's my first choice, but I wanna fit also the rebel to weigh which is best for me.. thanks for your content..
One meant for safer run and the other is for faster one. None of both do bad on their weaker aspect though. Nobablast is better if you are heavy runner or have problem with knees with its cassioning. Rebel is really light and breathable and joyful.
Just got the Novablast 4. Two things… At first, and I have a wide foot, I had a bit of trouble with heel-slip, but after some miles, it seem like not affect me as much at it “feels” if that makes sense… I felt the Novablast was quite “dead” and unresponsive when I did my first runs, but after about 60k I feel like the Novablast has come alive and show it’s potential. Feels like a non plated show, which it is, but feels lighter than it is, with makes up for the missing pop from the missing plate.
I have slightly wider feet and also feel the heel is a bit loose. Didn't rub anything off, no blisters, but i get this feeling that the shoe is falling off :) Might be due to how soft the materials are. And yeah, this is the 1st shoe which needed a break in time for me. Felt so stiff and clunky on 1st run. Then I wore it all the time for walks and the next run felt pretty good. Btw. the outsole is probably one of the worst on any shoe i had. Running after a rain it was slippery af.
Great point about looks.... NB wins. 😂 but interesting point about putting Saucony insoles into Rebel v4. I should try my Saucony insole into other shoes and see how that feels. I'm light so leaning towards lighter Rebel v4 (7oz) vs Novablast v4 (9oz) makes a difference for someone who is 139 lbs with 8% bodyfat.
Would they work for speed walking or half job at a good pace for a little then walk some . Trying to back to where I. was in December before total knee replacement surgery or should I go with new balance more v4 or 1080v13. Or other suggestions. I need them to be under 8mm , preferably 4 to 5 mm drop
As an owner of both pairs, the only thing I hate with the Novablast 4s are the insoles. The material underneath is too smooth so mine keeps moving forwards when I run. As for the Rebel v4, I find using it more for tempo workouts but yes it is still a daily-able shoe. Oh and the Rebel v4 runs a bit short for me. So given a do-over, I'd go half size up just so that I'm not killing my toes.
I've tried the novablast and really disliked that extra bit of foam under the forefoot. I have the Rebel v3 and, while the squishy foam took some getting used to, I really love it. I'm looking forward to running in the v4.
I was confused about wch shoe to buy between the novablast & the rebel for my daily runs..... but after watching ur video.... Now... I'm even more confused 😂 So I'm just going to buy both.
Love the comparison videos! I have the novablast 3 but don’t wear often because the tongue slides down and creates too much pressure on top of my foot. does the novablast 4 tongue stay in place?
Thank you for the comparison review. I have the Novablast V2. For me it is too bulky and heavy for anything other than easy/recovery runs. I do not own any of the Rebel versions. I probably will not purchase either these.
Thank you for making this video and comparing the two shoes. I really really appreciate this type of content. It sounds like I could try either shoe and be happy. Sometimes, that is the outcome. Personally, I think you should start designing your shoes. What could go wrong?
I am a heavy-weight runner and currently use the NB 1080 V13 for my daily short runs. While the 1080 V13 is okay, I need shoes with softer cushioning. I am looking for shoes that offer more softness. Could you please compare the softness between the NB 1080 V13 and the NB Rebel v4? Thank you for your review.
I've heard that after about 30 to 50 miles, the Rebel v4 softens up to feel more comparable to the Nova 4. Wondering if anyone has had the shoe long enough to confirm?
Hi Emily. I hope you’re feeling ok with what you told us you’re currently doing. I’m a big fan of yours and wish you the best. Re: this video I recently bought the Novablast 4. With its 8 drop I was concerned it might not work for me as I have a high arch and that I’ve been running in nimbus 24 (drop 13) and Glyercin 20 (drop 10). I love love love the cushion in the mid/forefoot and a half marathon in them Saturday. They worked great! A much faster and lighter shoe than the Glyercin’s and avoided the foot burning I can get during longer miles in the Nimbus24 also though I like its springiness. Although New Balance is a great shoe, they are too wide in the midfoot/arch area for me. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for the kind words ♥️ I appreciate it so much! And I’m also so glad you enjoyed the novablast! It’s a great shoe that works well for all different types of runs!
Always enjoy the videos and perspectives! Thought I was subscribed to the channel for awhile and I guess not , all corrected now and am. Did I get you to 20k?? Keep up the great content
If you can try on the rebel v4 in store I'd say go for it. I've had four pairs of the novablast v1. My fav shoe before the rebel v4. I need to try the new novablast, but I might go for something like the mach 6, mach x, or superblast. So many options now.
I loved the Novablast 3 but they did something to the 4 that cause rubbing/hot spots on my 4th toe on both of my feet. Which is so weird because I’ve never experienced that with any shoe before.

Just got the Novablast 4. It feels like a stripped down Superblast and just works with my gait. Big fan of ASICS lately.

Novablast 4 has been very serviceable for me. Has enough stack and softness to feel protective, without feeling so soft that it gets very sluggish
😅here here
Hi Emily I am not a runner but I have version 1 of both shoes. They are very comfortable to just walk around in. If I was a runner I would find it hard to choose between them. Thanks for the review. Good points raised.
Dont wear running shoes casually, only if they have a 0mm heel to toe drop. Otherwise its bad for your posture
Mostly unrelated, but your camera / lens is so nice! Great comparison. I love seeing comparisons along side reviews because it helps get a better understanding of where a shoe falls into a certain type of running shoe category. Cheers!
How do the discerning eyes tell when the creators are using high quality lens?

I’m surprised nobody ever talked about how similar Rebel V3 and Nova blast 3 felt in running. So great comparison for the versions 4 👍
Well the rebel v3 is squish and nova v3 is firm so not similar IMO
Nova v3 is pretty soft. In fact one of the softest shoe/foam in the game. V4 got firmer (more springy too) due to change of foam from FF Blast+ to FF Blast+ Eco.@@AuDHDRunner
@@botrytis_cinerea I too find Nova V3 very soft and fun to run in. Between the Nova V4 and the Rebel V4 I might choose the latter.
I just got them Blue New Balance Rebels today, I'm not a runner but I bought them because they look awesome. They feel great too, super lightweight

The forefoot “pod” on the Novablast 3 is what killed me. It caused some pain in the forefoot area at the end of the day.
I love my NB 1080v13, im eyeing on getting the rebel V4. Ive tried the novablast in store, i dont know why I dont seem to like it that much.
V1 heller! Let’s go!! I ran my long run in the novablast 4 today. I really like that shoe it’s soft but not cushy soft.
💯 on the Rebel being the better looking shoe. All of the men's colorways for the Novablast are terrible.
Not all NB colorways are terrible. The platinum colorways are 🔥
Good comparison! I really want to love the Novablast but I've bought and then sold both the 2 and the 3, and will pass on the 4. Nice Emily - I will always lean towards the NB first but have enjoyed the Novablast v3 as well, The Emily Hell(er)Cat v1
I love the beginning of the video with good morning.... I simply love it❤️😍💪
I love the nova blast more then my hoka Clifton never thought I would say that 😂😂
Looking at the rebel v4 mainly because I’m inn Louisiana and it gets HOT in summer. I need a breathable upper.
Which one has better energy return?
They’re pretty equal but lean slightly to novablast because of more foam

Novablast 4 is a more versatile shoe… you can run easy and also, can pick up some speed as well
Just picked up both of these. I paid $112 for each pair during REI’s member sale(20% off). Sale ends May 25, 2024

Most New Balance run small for me. I go a size to half a size up. But ive heard the Rebel V4 runs a little big. And advice?

Rebel V4 or Hoka Rincon 3 for daily trainers and someone who runs for a long time?
Rebel v4
I'm very interested in the Rebel v4
The Novablast 4 physically looks like a huge shoe compared to other shoes in the same size. Great shoe though.
Rebel V4 coming in tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be as good as my Emily Heller V1's.
did you review new balance fresh foam more v5
And what about Nike Invincible 3. Is invincible comparable?
Definitely comparable but I haven’t tried the 3 yet
I am a heavy-weight runner and currently use the NB 1080 V13 for my daily short runs. While the 1080 V13 is okay, I need shoes with softer cushioning. I am looking for shoes that offer more softness. Could you please compare the softness between the NB 1080 V13 and the NB Rebel v4? Thank you for your review.
The rebel v4 is going to be a lot more firm than the 1080v13. If you’re looking more cushion, try the new balance fresh foam more v4 maybe
@@RunLikeHeller Thank you!

The novablast 4 is really good but it kicks my calves so strong. This is the first time I've had this in any shoe :/
Hi which feels softer underfoot?
Prob nova
First from the Philippines🇵🇭
Feels like the huge stack shoes have corrupted our minds to what a "low stack shoe" is. If the rebel v4 was in the market 12 years ago we would call it a bigger stack shoe compared to others.
The market has evolved
What, no run footage? 😊 Is Ruby on strike?
Ran out of time 😂 and she’s been camera shy!
😂

Tempo run reble win , long run nova win .
Novablast, no thank's! I have the v2, they are clunky and unstable! Good for walking the dog!
Cant you just put in a beefier insole in the rebel? Youll get like 3 to 4 mm more forefoot stack 😂
Got both haha 🤣
Completely different shoes bro
for design, NB completely win. NB4 even ugly than NB3, backward design IMO..
