I started running 8 months ago. The first couple of weeks I couldn't run more that 15 mins because I would get a lot of pain in my shins and knees. Kofuzi recommended Asics Nimbus 25 as a really good recovery shoes. They did help greatly, allowing me to run for longer periods in comfort and I did my first HM in about 2 hours. When I started running I weighed 210 pounds and I managed get to 195lbs before the race. A month after the race I got the Nova Blast 3. I'm currently 190 and when I run in them I naturally feel faster. The shoes are lighter and it feels like nothing holds me back. The upper is way more breathable and has a larger toe box even though reviews said its a narrower shoe( my feet arent flat or have a high arch, 6ft height). I've been doing 5ks and 10ks, making them in the in 23 mins and 54 mins respectively. I've trimmed off 5 mins easily. It's personally think they best shoes I've ever worn. I hope to get the metaspeed sky plus later on this year for races.
So I have been running for about ten years, but have struggled to find a pair of shoes that fit me well for reasons I couldn't figure out. After researching using your videos, I went into a local running store with a few of your reviewed shoes in mind. I comment here on the Novablast 4 because, as we were trying them out, the man at the store realized that I had been wearing the wrong size shoe the whole time. I ended up having a wider foot than I realized, and my foot pain was because of my nerves getting pinched. I always just assumed this was just part of running (I know, silly in hindsight) but with some adjustment to sizing, I was zipping around the store and on my first run in a pair of Novablast 4's in a way I had never felt before. So thank you so much for your videos- to no hyperbole, you have helped revitalize my favorite hobby. I can't wait to see what's ahead! You have a lifetime fan now.
First run today with my Novablast 4, just 5k to test them and it felt amazing. I've been running quite often for several months even completing one half marathon per week before I had a mental health issue during December. That kept me away of running so I started again around mid-March this year. I'm not a fast runner: I can complete half marathon under 2 hours and 5k below 25 minutes as well as 10k under 50 minutes. All of these with Asics Gel-excite 9. Today, with just a bunch of trainings I completed 5k in 25:23 quite easily with the Novablast 4. Recovery was also great. Let's see tomorrow with 10k and upcoming longer runs how it feels but the start has been amazing.
Thank you I have now the gel excite 9 and I am thinking of buying the NB4 in a few months. I am just worried about the back of the shoe cause it is much higher. Did you have any trouble at first?
Just bought my pair and ran 6k on them this morning before sunrise. I’m going to pair them with the 1080 v13 for longer/slower runs while I’m preparing for some local 10k races and (maybe) my first half marathon here in northern Italy. Great first impression on the Novablast 4, the shoe is super comfortable and accommodating at my regular pace. Picking it up is smooth and easy as well, the foam is super responsive and you can see that the shoe is made to be a good overall trainer. Thanks for your detailed reviews man, I’m a big fan of yours. You help us normal runners a lot in choosing our best options in the market. Keep having fun running!
I’m glad to hear that it feels more consistent even at 100 miles. With the NB3, I got to 100 miles quickly and it still felt great to run in, but that wow factor I experienced with the first few miles went away. I did get 330 miles before I had to toss them though. I’m 6’1” 210 so I suspect that might have played a hand in the longevity. I’ve been using the superblast almost exclusively and am excited to see what the next iteration of that will be.
I have the Deviate Nitro 2, it is one of the best daily trainers out there. Great grips, soft and bouncy with the plates and a super comfortable upper. What a joy to use
@@jicalzad The Novablast 3 is technically a few tenths of an ounce lighter but the DN2 just feels like less shoe on foot and I liked that feeling. In that sense, I felt like it did run lighter.
LOVE my Novablast! Honestly think if you only have the budget to buy one shoe the Novablast is the way to go. I actually switched mid race to the Novablast during my 100k ultra a few months ago
Ran through 3 pairs of NB3 in 2023. Bought a pair of NB4 in December and have gotten an average of 60km/week since. First thing I noticed was indeed the firmness of the NB4 compared to the NB3. NB4 are more stable on the feet and takes corners with great grip. But I must admit I'll be going back to a pair of NB3 once my NB4 reaches 700km. I miss the squishiness and bounce when running. For me the NB3 is a more fun shoe to run in and I also feel legs fatigued in my less after a run. As you said, Ko. You can get a good deal on a pair of NB3
What's your recommendations based on your experience, I'd like to buy either one of them, most of my run is easy run that is around 5-8km, long run once a week and interval once a week. I did try to put on nb4 in the shop, they felt really good but I have no idea which more suit me, nb3 or nb4.
@@chuenyoophua6047 I'll have to say it all comes down to preference and running style. I mainly spend my running time in zone 2 and 3. For me that's around 5:45min/km. That's a pretty comfortable cruise pace for me, for others it might be too slow. I would say if you are around that or perhaps even slower go for the NB3. You'll enjoy the comfort of the NB3 and "sacrificing" speed wont be a concern anyways
I only have the first version. That was the best shoe i ever bought. Remember then it was the shoe that i pick up everyday for my run... still running it in till this day occasionally. Nice review as usual.
If you like the 1st version, which I did too (still have one pair) you will like v3. v2 was not as good as 1. But 3 is like the 1 but better. And it's on sale now. Highly recommend if you're looking for an upgrade.
@@tomekb4gin5ki opened the shopping app today... And wow the Novablast 3 is available at about RM317 (Approx USD67). Its the LE version with similar heel counter with pull tab as in v4. Instant buy 😅
I did buy the version 3, the Version 3 LE to be exact with different heel counter than the ordinary 3. After all the discount vouchers the price was USD66. Just got yesterday. Step in feel was superb
@@kofuzi This morning they still felt pretty good between 8:30 and 7:15 per mile pace over 8 miles. Heel still feels great to brake on downhill. My Mach 5s didn’t make it this far.
I have over 400 miles in my version 3 and they are also still perfect, the upper still looks new and the sole is still in good shape, lasting really well. I do however have 3 pairs of version 3 i rotate and now have version 4 in the rotation also. NB3 are still KING over version 4
I bought my NB4s 3 weeks ago and am now working them into my rotation. I've been running almost exclusively in Hoka Rincons, Machs and Cliftons because of their comfort for years. I had been running mostly in Asics gels and enjoying them but felt I had to get away from their 11mm heel drop and Hokas were 5mm drop which felt much better. After putting about 30 miles on the NB4s, I am impressed by how comfortable they are and especially by how fast they are and they are fast. I still prefer the Rincons and Machs because for speed over varying runs but the NB4s were designed to go fast. Although the 8mm heel drop isn't as annoying as the 11mm Asics, I still have to get used to them. The very high stack is also an issue but i think factors into why they are so fast for me. I have become a forward shoe striker where my shoes show minimal wear at the heel with my Hokas even after 450-500 miles. My heels are striking more with the NB4s but it seems like its just enough to propel me forward. Takes some getting used to but so far, I really enjoy running in them for speed. I also expect them to last longer than my Hokas (which last me 400-500 miles). They won't be replacing my Hokas but add a different option for speed over longer distances. I went with the day-glo green too just to annoy people.
@@shpeksyy I'm having a problem getting used to the high stack of the NB4s and 8mm heel drop. All of the Hokas are 5mm. I don't know why the stack should be an issue. Mainly, I scrape my heels with the NB4s.
@@pasadenaphil8804 I was looking for a decent change from my rincon3. They lasted me for 400 miles and I took them as a recovery shoe, ended up using them as a daily trainer. Wanted to switch to something newer but as comfortable as they only more durable. Now I’m in a doubt again 😂
I've had the Novablast 4 for about 3 weeks, and I'm just shy of 100k in them. I'm really enjoying them, I didn't get on with the previous Novablasts because they were too unstable for me, but this one seems to be a sweet spot. I've done all my easy running the last few weeks in them and they're great, and I've just got home from running a 22:45 ParkRun (5k) which is a steady effort for me, and it really bounced along very nicely.
Thank you for your review. I bought Puma Deviate Nitro after watching your reviews and so happy with them. I see they have discounted Novablast 3, but not sure, if I already ordered Saucony Triumph 20 for easy runs, I guess I am good for now.
I love this shoes. I have thr TR version though. I always go for TR versions(both novablast and nimbus) cause they last longer and it has a better colorway imo.
I wanted to love this shoe but couldn’t get past the heel slip I was experiencing so I sent them back after a few runs. Back to using the Superblast and weaving the Ride 17 into the rotation
I'm 84 miles with the NB4 so far. I've ran in all 4 novablasts and these required more break in time than the other ones. The NB3 felt good right out of the box but the NB4 took me about 20-25 miles to settle in and now that the foam is broken in it feels similar to NB3. I love them the more I run in them!
I'm not a Rebel person, but I'm still very much looking forward to your review of the V4 since I'm Peba-curious. 😉 I think the colorways of the NB4 match its new personality: more boring. My biggest issue with my NB3 is that there's never a situation where I reach for it instead of (one of my pairs of) Superblasts.
You may be right about Supers vs Novas but not everyone wants to drop $200 on the Super, and not everyone wants max stack all the time. (But hey, some do daily drive Porsches so you do you)
I'm heading to Japan as we speak, and they have the superblast for 22k (150USD) in my size. I think I'll just grab a pair just because they are so cheap (also I have a marathon coming up).
I’m eager to hear your eventual review of the Rebel v4. I’ve seen/heard some exciting things about that update, but your comparison is tempering my expectations.
I actually like the Novablast 4 more than the 3, which is weird as someone who prefers the more chaotic original Endorphin Speed to the more refined and broader mass appeal v3. I think the Novablast 4 is a great improvement for me because I have dedicated workout and tempo shoes (Endorphin Speed 3, and tonight I just put my first workout into the Magic Speed 3). I work in running specialty and between my discounts and seeded (free) pairs, I have quite a specific rotation going. I had been using the Novablast 4 for shorter long runs (up to 12 miles) to save my Superblast for my longest runs incorporating some marathon pace work, until I got seeded a Triumph 21, which is now my LSD shoe (long slow distance, for those not familiar with the acronym beyond the drug lol). I think the Nova 4s are more versatile for those wanting to increase their distance, as they are more stable and more rockered (the 3s were a little slappy in the forefoot and I found myself wanting more rocker) and overall more comfortable. I don't really do anything faster than half marathon pace in my daily trainers (other than strides), and I don't notice a difference in the new midsole and slight weight increase. For those wanting a daily trainer that they're also going to use for intervals and fast stuff, while I don't think either version is ideal, I think the 3s have a marginal amount more pep, and if there's any reason to get it, it's the discount on the v3. As someone who gets the same price on the v4 and the v3 and can choose without the influence of a price difference, I favor the v4.
Just ordered my Novablast 4 for $109. I can’t wait to finally get my first run in this shoe. I’m looking forward to next year at about this same time, for my discounted Novablast 5. 😎
I just bought them yesterday for $156 (tax included) and man they are great!! They are my first pair of running shoes (I come from basketball so I used to do all my runs in basketball shoes) And for me even doing just a mile was a pain in the ass, mi achilles tendom would flare up like hell. And today, with the hell of a lot of screaming like david goggins and my new pair of novablast 4 I achieved my first mile and half (1.6) and in one minute or so my feet feel new again. Also they are great if you have wide feet, I stayed true to size and tought they were a little bit big because they slip just a little little bit, but I prefer having more space in the front of my feet and the slip it's almost imposible to notice, so don't mind about it. Thanks for the review kofuzi!! (I'm a 6'1 guy with 180 punds btw)
Love both the 3 and the 4. Completely agree that the 4 is a lot more consistent and predictable in its ride where as the 3 could change daily depending.
short answer: 10-20 miles or two to three runs long answer: I'll run however many miles it takes before I'm confident in my opinion. I'm comfortable reviewing a shoe after one run if it feels pretty straightforward, which most shoes are. if I get mixed signals, I'll keep running in them until I get a clearer picture of what is happening. but it doesn't take more than three or four runs when that is the case. and from a practical perspective, there can be scheduling externalities that may result in me running in a shoe 40 miles before I get the review filmed (maybe there was a lengthy embargo, maybe I had a bunch of other reviews I wanted to get out first, maybe I had some travel/events, or maybe I had a batch of shoes from the same brand and I wanted to space things out a bit).
Novablast 4 & nb 1080 v13 are completely different shoes for me. I use novablast 4 for speed training as it has an amazing bouncy foam which helps in increasing the speed gradually with ease. 1080 v13 is an excellent shoe for recovery & long slow pace runs.
I do agree with you, that bouncy feel is amazing with the NB3s I've been unable to do easy runs in them. Even if I try I still run my paces too fast but in a good relaxing way.
I ran in v.1 and loved it but eventually had arch pain from the instability on cantered roads. I am excited to hear they have improved the stability in the 3 and now even more in the 4. Gonna go with the 4 and skip the 3 so I’m not disappointed.😂
I've heard a lot of comparisons between these and the NB 1080 V13 which i have put 300 miles on. I'm 5'11, 175lbs and I probably put 30-40 miles of my weekly mileage in the 1080's. For about 100 miles, they felt so springy and good. I found them very comfortable at paces slower than 8 minutes and they felt great even at sub 7 minutes. While they're still very comfortable, that magic is gone. I'll probably still rock these up to 500 miles unless they start fatiguing my legs sooner than that. I'd be interested to see how the NB4's fair at 300 miles.
Asics FFblast+ will not disappoint. Its like a tried and tested midsole😅. But I agree its the eco version was a but firmer compared to the novablast 3. But more stable.
Personally the 4 is like a refined version of the 3. Similar feel under foot but they fixed the issues with the outsole turning into an ice skate in the rain and the slappy sensation when running on certain surfaces. I use it for everything besides my longest of long runs, which in that case I bring out the superblasts.
Hello, I just started to run again after a while and I bought novablast 4 as my daily trainer. I had run for 30 miles and everytime I ran, it felt like both of my sole were in pain. Was that because my slow pace (9minutes/km) or I didnt have enough strength training to use this shoe? I need some advice, thank you 🙏
I stopped using my Novablast 2s after 300 miles. The bottom of my feet started feeling sore after longer runs. My Novablast 3 TRs are now at 150 miles and still feel good. The only problem I have with them is that the front has discoloured completely (orange sandy look) whereas the 2s still look clean. Skipping the 4s for now, longing to try something else next time. Maybe Hokas.
It would be crazy to have a Deviate Nitro 2 for tempo run/daily training novablast 4 for daily training and a sc trainer v1 for marathon/super long runs? I'm thinking about adding deviate to my tempo run rotation
That spot between my toe’s starts hurting around 3-4 miles in the Novablast 4 and around 6-7 in the 3. I went from the 3 to the Superblast and I can make it 9-10 miles. I was excited for the 4 and bought it the day it dropped I just caint run in it lol. I will be running my first half marathon in 2 weeks thanks to the Superblast.
I have done over 100miles in my NB4 and I must say they are feeling much better now than they did out the box, whereas the NB3 felt great out the box and didnt need to be run in. Version 4 felt hard and pretty dead out the box but now feel nice and squishy and am enjoying them, but still I return to my version 3 , they are better
@mrdsbaker Thanks for sharing because this was exactly the same experience I had. I got around 20 miles in over 3 runs, and the v4’s felt pretty dead and hard. Maybe I need to break them in more. I ended buying 3 new pairs of the v3’s just to have back ups. On my first 3 pairs of v3’s. I got about 350 miles on each. I will give the v4s another few runs… maybe when it warms up.
My Novablast 3s are closing in on 900km. Treads are almost gone, but they still feel pretty "grippy." I'm willing to bet I can safely use them for another 200km. As for getting a new pair, NB4s still being sold at the launch price where I live - but I can get Ultraboosts at around half that price. Ultraboosts are expensive when launched, but they get cheap pretty quick. I'm not a very fast runner (50 minutes per 10km), so it's still a toss up for me between getting discounted Ultraboosts or NB4.
Sacramento native here… i recognized ur footage at the start of this vid instantly. Ur runnin out in front of the Golden One Center. When u were out here for the CIM i assume?
Just over 100 miles now on my novablast 4s I really like this shoe it's the best one so far looking to get another pair maybe something better if possible
Great video man! I was waiting for this review and I am planning to get this shoe! But when the New Balance Rebel V4 was announced I was hyped as well and it became a good problem for me what shoe should I get! I am choosing between the two and I will wait for your video about the Rebel V4. Was planning to get both shoes and make the Rebel V4 as my speed shoes? Hope you can give me insights for this. Great vid again!
I like the Magic Speed 3 and its firmer more rockered ride than the Endorphin Speed 3 fits my workout preferences better (the Endorphin Speed 3 leaves a little to be desired once I'm cranking it past my mile pace, whereas the Magic Speed 3 responds better at those intense paces). The Endorphin Speed 3 is soft and bouncy like a Novablast with a more snug fit and better personality lol. I'd imagine both clash with the Rebel. The Magic Speed 3 is carbon plated and you don't break the bank (it's $160). I've been hearing good things about the Hyperion Max as well. I think that both shoes would offer something different enough from the NB4 that they'd feel like they have specific places in your rotation. The NB4 is comfortable over easier paces and longer runs but is more limited in the higher intensities, while the Magic Speed 3 and Hyperion Max aren't nearly as comfortable and might not be your long run shoe of choice (but can race a half marathon if needed) but can get the legs turning during your workouts much more efficiently than the NB4.
@@ielle. Thanks for this! I am actually a beginner and wanted to try running as workout/sport and I really enjoyed it so far! I am new to the sport so this really helps me more to understand it. So I wanted to get a daily trainer and a speed/5k or 10k or half marathon shoe for now. Will check these out!
@@rcardeno the Magic Speed 3 is perfect for what you're describing. It's a great introductory carbon-plated shoe (you could look into the metaspeed series once you're more aggressively chasing some half and full marathon PRs) and it's neither particularly stable nor unstable, which is relatively quite stable for a carbon-plated shoe as these types of shoes are often not typically known for their stability (some, more than others, like the Endorphin Pro 3 is said to be pretty stable). The Endorphin Speed 3 will feel better at slower paces than the Magic Speed 3 will, so for longer tempos and fartleks I prefer the ES3, but if I was racing or time trialing anything up to a half marathon I would choose the MS3 for that, as well as for my fastest workouts. The NB4 isn't as fast as the ES3 but is versatile enough to be doing much of the same work you might consider doing in the ES3 (NB4 feels totally fine up to half marathon pace for me, and only at 10k pace and faster do I feel like it's holding me back in ways where I wish I had the ES3 on my feet). The ES3 is great at 10k and 5k paces, longer workouts, and longer intervals like mile repeats (which should be approx 5k pace anyway). For me, it's that mile pace and faster where the Magic Speed 3 does what the ES3 doesn't. I would rather take the MS3 to a track than the ES3, and for longer tempos on the roads the ES3 is more comfortable and at tempo paces I don't necessarily need the little bit extra that the MS3 offers at top-end effort. Basically, the MS3 has more top-end speed and for that reason I would pair it with the NB4 over the ES3 due to the overlap, but if you didn't own a NB4 or uptempo-capable daily trainer similar to it, I would recommend the ES3 for its excellent versatility (a common 2-shoe rotation for many is Triumph-Endorphin Speed).
I haven't tried the Nova blast 4, but I did try the Nova blast 3. I felt the Nova blast 3 was very flat in the forefoot and did not have much cushion or spring. I think people need to keep in mind that most of these UA-cam reviewers are between 130 and 145 lb, so their version of cushion is going to be much different from "regular" people that weigh anywhere from 160 to 200 lb. I'm a 180 lb and fairly muscular, and I found the Asics nimbus 25 to have the perfect amount of cushion and pep to run slow or fast.
thanks for providing insight as to which other shoes you've been enjoying instead. a lot of times people complain about shoes and then don't provide context. and in that situation, it can feel like it was written by a bot or someone who just wanted to get on the internet to disagree
It's a tricky part of working in run specialty. I'm 5'10 135ish lbs, and also a mid-forefoot lander (most of the people we see strike more dominantly on the heel) and I often don't perceive much difference in cushioning the way heavier runners do, so when customers ask my opinion of a shoe I sometimes have to disregard my opinion entirely whether it's disregarding why a shoe works so well for me (the Novablast series is one I get along with really well) or disregarding why a shoe is something I wouldn't even consider (the Adrenaline has such a high drop and the forefoot padding is lacking as someone with a more forefoot-oriented strike, but it could work great for a heel striker). I also have to keep in mind that a shoe that has "plenty of cushion" to me might not be experienced the same way by someone who weighs much more than me and therefore will compress the foam more (the Clifton is an example of a shoe I perceive as max cushion-adjacent, while many others note a much stronger distinction between it and the Nimbus or Triumph). Despite the similar midsoles and I believe same stack heights, the Nimbus is a much denser use of FF Blast+ (eco) and still has that gel in there, so it'll deaden the impact in ways that the more energetic and airier Novablast 4 doesn't. You mention being fairly muscular, but mass is mass - muscle, fat, a pound of bricks weighs the same as a pound of feathers and your shoes don't know the difference, and it can be tricky to bring up this point about weight and perceived cushioning to customers because it really isn't a statement on anyone's body proportions, but about more force and more impact being put onto the midsole foams in these shoes and how that alters the experience.
Great video! New runner question. I am new to running and currently going through my first training block for my first marathon in late Feb. and I am running slow, goal sub 4:00 marathon so not breaking records here. I have been running in Endorphin Speed 3 which I have loved for 90% of my runs. Now that I am into 18 and 20 mile long runs for my training, my legs are really sore for the last 5+ miles and hard to finish the run. Considering I need to go 26 miles, do you think the NB4 is a good shoe that would be better for my legs in the marathon or is shoe not the problem and I need more training?
No one saw the Hallmark reference coming, did they? After you and the FOD Runner noted the 4 was less fun than the 3, I splurged on the Superblast and am currently using it for everything. It's a great shoe.
I’ve got 125 miles in my novablast 4, including a marathon. I love the novablast line, but the 4 are a bit too plush and the toe box is a lot warmer and less breathable than the 3. I’m excited to try the rebel v4. The rebel v2 was my absolute favorite.
Would you recommend this shoe for quite a flat footed person like me? But have more of a neutral gait? Or should I stick with the Kayano 30 for the extra stability? What I like about this shoe is the energy return you have been saying and not much a fan of a super cushioned shoe because of the low energy return. Currently using a Nike react infinity run flyknit, at 84kilos at 5'7". Thanks!
I bought the Alphafly 3 two days ago for my hometown race yesterday. I did new PB at 10k, 53:31, my previous one was 57:57. So crazy how can a supershoe make that much difference... It has a carbon plate and fella like you're on a tramboline 🤣 But, I wanna save them only for races, because the43 extremely expensive. Looking for a daily trainer shoes now, what do you recommend? I need something that feels comfortable and also fast and durable.
the video you just watched is a very good place to start. here's my list of favorite daily trainers from last year. the year end list for 2024 will be coming up in the next month or so. ua-cam.com/video/Qa1INxYxf3g/v-deo.htmlsi=akImT7kVv_DrRKLD
Great review. Would you recommend these or the NB 1080v13, or rebel 4 for heavier runner (215lbs), only run 5-10km distance at moderate pace. I also have 2E width feet
Hey! I just bought the Novablast 4 as my daily trainer. Could you recommend me a recovery alternative from the Hoka One family? Will the Bondi 8 be a good alternative for the rotation?
I’m moving from the New Balance Fresh Foam v3 to the NB4. Any thoughts on the feel difference? I bought the NB4 based on reviews and in need of new (daily/versatile) running shoes. I bought the NB4 without ever testing them and am awaiting their delivery. The last pair of ASICS I owned were the GT2000.
Hey, you made me run. And its fun. I am having the Novablast 3 and im wondering whats best now, considering getting new shoes and i cant help myself. Should get new Novablast3 and buy eather nimbus25 or metaspeed. or just get novablast4 and do it all with that... Im 38 years old, 90kg, gooing first half marathon in april. 70.3 in Sept. And full distances in 2025. Whalt do you guys think and recommend? thank you in advance!
I still want to try that Puma Deviate Nitro shoe and I'm less excited about the NovaBlast 4. Especially when I just found a pair of NovaBlast 2 hanging around for $65! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the Rebel v4.
I have about 50 miles on the 4. My only complaint is that the tongue slides down and the tongue doesn’t come with a tongue loop. Very frustrating because it’s such an easy fix.
I have about 50 miles on my pair and am still kind of waiting to really enjoy them. They're not a bad shoe by any means but for me they've just been a little 'meh'. Sort of regret not going with the 1080v13.
Found version 3 to be clunky and loud (compared to my normal Hoka Machs that I have been using for the last few years). Do you find this to feel less clunky and loud compared to version 3?
Debating on picking this up as my daily for my spring block (just started). How are they handling winter conditions: snow, slush, wet tarmac? May grab the TR instead and scoop another 3.
Also not a fan of the trend of widening the base of neutral shoes to the point where they feel like Hokas. If I need stability, I'd wear a dedicated stability shoe
it was a trend that started in 2023 and I suspect we will continue to see a lot of it in 2024. that's what we get when a handful of people complain that they don't like squishy shoes. it ruins it for the rest of us
Hello sir, I wanna start running, and I just wanna ask about my shoe size whenever I'm gonna buy my first daily trainer shoes, prolly Nimbus 26 or Novablast 4. But then I just wanna ask what size should I buy, my usual size is size 9 US (wide feet), should I add a 1 size up? or stick to true to size? Been really inspired watching your videos lately.
@@stunnenbroowie5217 as much as I want to.. Unfortunately, we don't have an ASICS store here in our City, that's why I'm just gonna order from online..
Seems like a good daily trainer, but i dont know where daily trainer fall into my workout anymore. I use Speed 3 for tempo and intervals, Triumph 20 for LSD, and Kayano 30 for recovery run. What kind of workout do people use daily trainer for?
Hi Kofuzi. Thank you for your reiews. You live in Chicago, where winters are cold. Thus , you can share valuble info about how various running shoes, expecially foam, plates, upper knit behave in cold conditions. It would be helpful, if you could share your thoughts about the above. Does it become more stiff in cold, less sringy, more stable etc? mabye other things that you noticed how shoes work in cold conditions?
@@kofuzithanks. But I've seen that Eva foams don't really work in cold conditions,i.e. they become less responsive, stiff, whereas TPU foams work the same way both in cold and warm conditions. If that's true and you noticed that, then it deserves to be told about in your reviews.
You might not get a reply from Mr. Fuzi since he didn't get along with the ES3, but your plan seems sound on paper. He would probably pick TS8/9/10 for a speed day though.
I ordered Novablast 4 today. An instant smile on my face as soon as I started testing them. Excellent return energy and overall fun to run in. I think they'll be a good pair with my Endorphin speed 3 which I use for my fast workouts on the athletic surface. But I'm thinking of completely switching to Asics line in the future.
I HAVE THE EXACT SAME SETUP RN!! I recently got into running have put 120 miles on my peg 40s since february and am very excited to switch over to the nb4s this upcoming week.
Hey - did you had in the beginning problems with the upper? When i bring pressure to the front of the shoe it kind wrinkles together and it is a risk source for blisters. Ordered already the second pair and its the same. I feel really comfortable in them and i would like to love them but i at the moment I’m not sure if i keep them 🤷🏼
I started running 8 months ago. I hope to get the metaspeed sky plus later on this year for races.
congratulations on your progress! great work!
Hey man! We might not know each other, but I'm really proud of you! 👍 Keep it up !
Hey Jay, if you like the Nimbus and Novablast, you might like the superblast.
I’ve used the Novablast 3 and Superblast and they’ve been awesome.
Just wish to point out that the Metaspeed + is a very aggressive shoe with a very stiff plate. It can cause injuries.
Good for you man!!!
Hey what happened to you in December? I usually struggle with my mind often too. Hope you’re much better now!
Thank you I have now the gel excite 9 and I am thinking of buying the NB4 in a few months. I am just worried about the back of the shoe cause it is much higher. Did you have any trouble at first?
"I'm not a fast runner" but your time for HM, 5k and 10k looks pretty fast already 😂

Nova 4 grew on me, can't wait to get one on sale
Didn’t get on board until the novablast 4 and am happy I did! Close to 100 miles on them and you are spot on with it. Keep up the amazing reviews !
You are currently one of my few favourite channels!!!
I’ve been using the superblast almost exclusively and am excited to see what the next iteration of that will be.
coming from the boston 12 and triumph 20 i have to say i love the novablast 4‘s.
glad they're working for you!
i have the triumph 20 and planning to purchase this one. how do you rotate between them?
I have the Deviate Nitro 2, it is one of the best daily trainers out there. Great grips, soft and bouncy with the plates and a super comfortable upper. What a joy to use
great shoe
I did a 5 mile tempo run in the Novablast 3 yesterday. Felt good.
I had the Novablast 3 and Deviate Nitro 2 for last year and I found myself choosing the DN2 more and more.
does the DN2 feel lighter? faster?
@@jicalzad The Novablast 3 is technically a few tenths of an ounce lighter but the DN2 just feels like less shoe on foot and I liked that feeling. In that sense, I felt like it did run lighter.
I been running in NB 4 few weeks still love them.
I love mine too
LOVE my Novablast! Honestly think if you only have the budget to buy one shoe the Novablast is the way to go. I actually switched mid race to the Novablast during my 100k ultra a few months ago
road ultra?
Ran through 3 pairs of NB3 in 2023. Bought a pair of NB4 in December and have gotten an average of 60km/week since. First thing I noticed was indeed the firmness of the NB4 compared to the NB3. NB4 are more stable on the feet and takes corners with great grip. But I must admit I'll be going back to a pair of NB3 once my NB4 reaches 700km. I miss the squishiness and bounce when running. For me the NB3 is a more fun shoe to run in and I also feel legs fatigued in my less after a run. As you said, Ko. You can get a good deal on a pair of NB3
agree with you, I have the same feelings
Best running channel
Thank you
I only have the first version.
@@tomekb4gin5ki yeah noted... V3 is also in my radar that's now they are on sale most of the time
@@tomekb4gin5ki opened the shopping app today...
Step in feel was superb
me ,still rock the V1 on smooth off road once in a while
At about 300 miles in my first pair of NovaBlast 3s and it still amazes me how many different paces it's good at.
nice. how they are holding up? do you think you need to replace them soon?
@@kofuzi This morning they still felt pretty good between 8:30 and 7:15 per mile pace over 8 miles. Heel still feels great to brake on downhill. My Mach 5s didn’t make it this far.
I have over 400 miles in my version 3 and they are also still perfect, the upper still looks new and the sole is still in good shape, lasting really well. I do however have 3 pairs of version 3 i rotate and now have version 4 in the rotation also. NB3 are still KING over version 4
@@Ninja-Cake Yeah, they’re awesome. I jumped on that $75 deal around Christmas and have a pair of LE for when these burn out

Having both Novablast 4 and New Balance V13, I gotta give the edge to New Balance.
both great shoes
Tell me more!
Yo @kofuzi 361 just popped up on my Facebook, curious to know if you plans on testing their products?
How would you compare NB4 to rincon?
I've done all my easy running the last few weeks in them and they're great, and I've just got home from running a 22:45 ParkRun (5k) which is a steady effort for me, and it really bounced along very nicely.
that's awesome! you're the exact runner that this shoe seems to have been designed for in terms of your experience in this one vs prior versions
Thank you for your review. I bought Puma Deviate Nitro after watching your reviews and so happy with them. I see they have discounted Novablast 3, but not sure, if I already ordered Saucony Triumph 20 for easy runs, I guess I am good for now.
Damn that was quick.
I love this shoes. I have thr TR version though.
I always go for TR versions(both novablast and nimbus) cause they last longer and it has a better colorway imo.
Thanks for this description, Mr. Kofuzi. Like from 🇪🇸. Cheers.
I wanted to love this shoe but couldn’t get past the heel slip I was experiencing so I sent them back after a few runs. Back to using the Superblast and weaving the Ride 17 into the rotation
surprising to hear about heel slip in a shoe with so much padding back there.
but glad to hear you found something that works instead!
I'm 84 miles with the NB4 so far. I've ran in all 4 novablasts and these required more break in time than the other ones. The NB3 felt good right out of the box but the NB4 took me about 20-25 miles to settle in and now that the foam is broken in it feels similar to NB3. I love them the more I run in them!
agree 100% on the break in period took me at least 100 miles before they felt good to me.
did you like v2? i liked v1 but somehow v2 just didnt bounce as well for me. pondering v3 vs, v4 now, Thanks
I'm not a Rebel person, but I'm still very much looking forward to your review of the V4 since I'm Peba-curious. 😉
I think the colorways of the NB4 match its new personality: more boring. My biggest issue with my NB3 is that there's never a situation where I reach for it instead of (one of my pairs of) Superblasts.
Theres new colorway released. Might get you interested.
You may be right about Supers vs Novas but not everyone wants to drop $200 on the Super, and not everyone wants max stack all the time. (But hey, some do daily drive Porsches so you do you)
The Superblast is such a unicorn, I'll probably buy at least one more pair even as expensive as they are.
🦄
I'm heading to Japan as we speak, and they have the superblast for 22k (150USD) in my size. I think I'll just grab a pair just because they are so cheap (also I have a marathon coming up).
@@zynaryzaidi7883 wen wil they b released? the new colours
Home for the Holidays - a great holiday movie!
Got some Novablast 4s and I’m really liking them. 40 miles so far but they have made running fun for me again.
Love to hear that!
I’m eager to hear your eventual review of the Rebel v4. I’ve seen/heard some exciting things about that update, but your comparison is tempering my expectations.
some people are going to absolutely love it
I actually like the Novablast 4 more than the 3, which is weird as someone who prefers the more chaotic original Endorphin Speed to the more refined and broader mass appeal v3.
for me the no1 ASics Superblast
I currently have 30 miles with mine. Though i like them very much, i still prefer my triumph 20 for easy long distance. Love your review!
I ordered Triumph 20 for easy runs
@@khabibpogosyan2587 noice. Maybe next year get the 21. I know i will
The 21 is great but it's softer than the 20 which might be a bit of a turnoff
@@Frichilsasta08 is it significantly softer? Ok. Thanks for the tip
@indraprambudi2520 not by much but to me its noticeable. You may notice but may not
I just bought them yesterday for $156 (tax included) and man they are great!!
They are my first pair of running shoes (I come from basketball so I used to do all my runs in basketball shoes)
And for me even doing just a mile was a pain in the ass, mi achilles tendom would flare up like hell.
I have a wide foot, is the toe box roomy enough? Do you recommend it?
Love both the 3 and the 4. Completely agree that the 4 is a lot more consistent and predictable in its ride where as the 3 could change daily depending.
Just Purchased my Lime colorway, not squishy but soft not plush.
Looks bulky different feel when worn
Cool shirt 👍🏽
need that slow af run club shirt 😍
What a fantastic review! Flawless!
This got me thinking, how many miles do you prefer to have logged before you do an initial review? Great review as always BTW. Such a great format.
short answer: 10-20 miles or two to three runs
long answer: I'll run however many miles it takes before I'm confident in my opinion.
1080 v13 is an excellent shoe for recovery & long slow pace runs.
interesting. thanks for the update!
Let me know how it goes!
This has been my favorite daily thus far.
I need some advice, thank you 🙏
I’m about 125 in at 5”11 195
These shoes are starting to wear on the bottom but I love them more and more after every use
thanks for the update!
AHAR really does the job
It would be crazy to have a Deviate Nitro 2 for tempo run/daily training
novablast 4 for daily training
and a sc trainer v1 for marathon/super long runs?
I'm thinking about adding deviate to my tempo run rotation
The Hallmark film analogy 😂👏
That spot between my toe’s starts hurting around 3-4 miles in the Novablast 4 and around 6-7 in the 3. I went from the 3 to the Superblast and I can make it 9-10 miles. I was excited for the 4 and bought it the day it dropped I just caint run in it lol. I will be running my first half marathon in 2 weeks thanks to the Superblast.
Are you talking about the trampoline pod under the balls of your feet?
I will give the v4s another few runs… maybe when it warms up.
thanks for the update!
I'm not sure I would pick the rebel 4 as your speed day shoe if your daily trainer is the novablast 4 (or vice versa). there's too much overlap.
@@kofuzi thanks for the insight! Will wait for your video for the Rebel V4 before making a decision
Truth, im 110 pounds so cushioning is different at my weight also
Great video! Considering I need to go 26 miles, do you think the NB4 is a good shoe that would be better for my legs in the marathon or is shoe not the problem and I need more training?
wonder if you are reviewing the Puma Velocity nitro 3 and will compare it with the novablast 4..
Anyone rate the Magic Speed 3 over the Takumi Sen for the speed shoe of the rotation?
No one saw the Hallmark reference coming, did they? After you and the FOD Runner noted the 4 was less fun than the 3, I splurged on the Superblast and am currently using it for everything. It's a great shoe.
glad you're enjoying it!
I’ve got 125 miles in my novablast 4, including a marathon. I love the novablast line, but the 4 are a bit too plush and the toe box is a lot warmer and less breathable than the 3.
I’m excited to try the rebel v4. The rebel v2 was my absolute favorite.
Hope you enjoy!

Would you say the Novablast 4 and Superblast are more alike than last year?
Great review. Would you recommend these or the NB 1080v13, or rebel 4 for heavier runner (215lbs), only run 5-10km distance at moderate pace. I also have 2E width feet
Both would be great, but I might suggest the 1080
Hey! I just bought the Novablast 4 as my daily trainer. Could you recommend me a recovery alternative from the Hoka One family? Will the Bondi 8 be a good alternative for the rotation?
What are your thoughts on the uppers vs Nova Blast 3. There is some critque that this year's uppers are not as breathable as last year's Nova Blast 3
I'll keep saying this, the NVB3 TR is a revelation. Over 750km in them and I was thinking on my run today how they are still fresh out the box soft.
thanks for the mileage update!
novablast 1 FTW
agree. i used it to 1200km with my nb1 bought on sale for 75usd.
I just hit 350 on the Novablast 3 and it's still got some good miles left in it....and I usually retire shoes at or even before 300 miles.
nice
I still want to try that Puma Deviate Nitro shoe and I'm less excited about the NovaBlast 4. Especially when I just found a pair of NovaBlast 2 hanging around for $65! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the Rebel v4.
Novablast 2? that's a nice find.
@@kofuzi yeah I did a triple take to make sure it was real.
I think the FF blast+ of novablast was a superior compared to the fuel cell of rebel v4. Specially on the squishiness after 150+ miles
I'm missing a light, soft training shoe from Asics comparable to the Mach 5. I hope the Cumulus 26 is what I'm looking for...
Let's get it done!
I can’t decide between novablast 3 on sale, that green NB 4 or the superblast
The green almost sells it for me
Found version 3 to be clunky and loud (compared to my normal Hoka Machs that I have been using for the last few years). Do you find this to feel less clunky and loud compared to version 3?
Torn between novablast 4 and boston 12. Which one should I get?
Debating on picking this up as my daily for my spring block (just started). How are they handling winter conditions: snow, slush, wet tarmac? May grab the TR instead and scoop another 3.
no problems for me in all those conditions, which were depicted in this video
Low-key hyping up the Rebel v4 towards the end there. Expecting big things when the review comes out!
That hoodie at the end is interesting
not what I would pick if I were learning to rollerblade in Central Park during the USATF 5k championships, but to each their own
Also not a fan of the trend of widening the base of neutral shoes to the point where they feel like Hokas.
Go to a physical store and fit the actual shoe
@@stunnenbroowie5217 as much as I want to.. Unfortunately, we don't have an ASICS store here in our City, that's why I'm just gonna order from online..
How would you compare the deviate 2 and the takumi 10?
Seems like a good daily trainer, but i dont know where daily trainer fall into my workout anymore. I use Speed 3 for tempo and intervals, Triumph 20 for LSD, and Kayano 30 for recovery run. What kind of workout do people use daily trainer for?
easy run
Are you wearing Medium with or 2E for NB 4 for your daily running? Thank you....
standard width
Short answer: I don’t change my shoe recommendations based on whether someone has winter or not where they live
@@kofuzithanks. But I've seen that Eva foams don't really work in cold conditions,i.e. they become less responsive, stiff, whereas TPU foams work the same way both in cold and warm conditions. If that's true and you noticed that, then it deserves to be told about in your reviews.
Need opinions!
Does having the NB SC Trainer V2 as a daily and Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 as a tempo make sense or repetitive?
You might not get a reply from Mr. Fuzi since he didn't get along with the ES3, but your plan seems sound on paper. He would probably pick TS8/9/10 for a speed day though.
makes sense to me, but it depends on how you like your sc trainer v2. some people like to run fast in it. I don't.
Glad you enjoy them!
I feel really comfortable in them and i would like to love them but i at the moment I’m not sure if i keep them 🤷🏼
I did not experience that
IN NEW BALANCE ELITE V3 I AM 7.5US
IN ASICS NIMBUS 25 what size would it be?
Novablast 4 used to hurt my knees at first but I’ve grown to love them so much!
