      He's male, and a former top-10 world level runner. who still can run 15:35 5k - which is well beyond what any woman, bar the most elite, can do. Andy's cruising pace would crush most women and *men* :).

      @@DimitriTheBarbarian Well, he finished 8th in the finals of the 1500m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. So.. he was top-10 in the world on at least that day. ;)
      He's never finished on the podium at top world level race as far as I know, so maybe he's not quite Jacob Ingebritsen, but he has ran in Olympic finals, and set European records I think.
      There are very very very few people who've been at that level. And he almost certainly can still destroy the vast majority of amateur runners out there, just with his Z2 pace. ;)

      I have a 5k in a week and a half. Still not quite decided if I want to do it as a training run, or an all out effort. I'm nowhere near my best shape anyway, so the time doesn't matter that much to me.

    Wow imagine how fast Andy would be if he actually could run rather than just shuffle. • @SubtleForces
      @SubtleForces 6 місяців тому +6

      Jess' technique looks flawless to me. I really wonder, from a physics perspective, what explains the difference and how Andy's shuffle can be that fast. Can someone explain it? Is it mass to power ratio? Running efficiency? What else?

    • @jessa813
      @jessa813 6 місяців тому +5

    • @HoHhoch
      @HoHhoch 4 місяці тому +6

      @SubtleForces His stride length means if he were to actually go into a run he'd need to move much faster. It really is as simple as he covers enough distance per stride that this pace only requires a shuffle from him. Jess' shorter stride means she has to actually run to keep that pace.

    That was truly exciting - I was on the edge of my seat! Well done Jess, and brilliant coaching Andy.
    It's also good to see that I am not the only one who has to increase cadence to maintain the same speed towards the end.

    So, I entered & ran a 10k race after watching this. I've been cycling more than running but this was so inspirational I had to try. To keep me pushing, all I could picture was Jess putting in this hard effort while Andy paces her. I ran just under 62 minutes which is way faster than I thought I could. Thank you to TRC for all your great videos! Love from South Africa.

    This is how I felt when I did my last all out time trial mile and ran a 5:11. And sprinting the last 200 meters just thinking about the finish line, is all I was thinking about. It felt like it would never end, but I finally did it. My goal for the mile is to break 5 minutes, as well as 18 in a 5k. I have a 19:21 5k right now, but I know I can break 19 soon with some training, sub 18 though is going to be difficult.

    The 4th km is the worst. Always have to fight the “pukes” at about 3.5k. Thankfully our parkrun (where I do most of my hard 5k running) has a little uphill and a quick steep downhill coming up to 4K. I use it as a booster to finish with a fast last k!
    Congrats Jess on the new PB.

    I've been running for 2 months now. I had never run before other than childhood games. I set a goal to run 5k in 2 months. I ended up doing it in the first week. At 33:33 minutes.
    I ran 10k 3 days later. At 1:11:17
    Since then, I've whistled down those times and set some distance records for myself. I've gotten to the point that a 25-minute 5k is a solid pace for me.
    55-minute 10k is my average pace
    And I've run 2 half marathons first at 2:30:00 and then at 2:03:17
    My second half marathon I ran 25k in 2:30:00.
    I always thought I couldn't run. I thought that heavy breathing in the first half mile meant I was too tired. When I pushed past it for the first time, I saw that I had the potential for so much more. I've only run alone but I run 5k-10k daily with a weekly 8-10 mile and a once a month half marathon.
    I signed up for my first group runs this week. I'm doing a 5k Saturday and a 5k Sunday. I don't expect to put up a great time. But I'm excited to get out with other runners.
    What should I expect?

    Running around a 19:30 I felt like Jess, who looks like she is just all out running. I found a guy in front of me who somehow looked in control and like it was an easy pace, like Andy. I told myself I looked like him and how easy is this pace? It was a useful lie that worked for at least a K.

    That gear Jess dropped it into the last 30 seconds was nothing short of amazing and emotional. That feeling is so intense but so rewarding knowing you’re so close to the end of something that feels like the worst pain ever and you thought would never end but now you see the finish line and you somehow run faster than you did the entire race after feeling like you weren’t able to finish for the longest time
