New Balance Rebel V4 Vs Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 | Which daily running shoe should you buy?

  • The Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 takes learnings from its hugely popular predecessors by making a few modifications to improve the ride. The most important of those is a re-engineered wing nylon plate to provide additional reinforcement while maintaining flexibility.
There’s also an updated mesh upper design that aims to give a more secure fit than the slightly roomy Endorphin Speed 3, and a new lattice outsole rubber to improve grip and durability.
The New Balance Rebel V4 is a daily shoe that’s designed for faster training while still providing plenty of cushioning. The FuelCell midsole foam is a PEBA/EVA blend that offers a soft ride as well as a good level of propulsion, with a geometry that’s taller and wider than its predecessor.
The upper is a breathable mesh that uses the brand’s FantomFit technology to ensure a supportive fit, with a good level of padding around the ankle collar.
Tom, Nick, and Kieran have been testing the shoes out to see which is worth spending your hard-earned cash on.

Good review of two grade updates. I have both the speed three and the rebel V3, and I am putting more miles on each. I have over 300 miles on the speed three and approaching 300 miles on the rebel three. The speed three has been probably my favorite running shoe ever. Disappears on the foot, comfortable and moves me along at a great pace. I have enjoyed the fuel cell foam on the rebel three but see the rebel four as an ice update. I will definitely be purchasing the speed 4 later this summer and might consider the rebel 4 as well.

Fantastic, will try Speed 4 at a store. Use Speed 2 (and still have a new pair). Thanks!!!

It isn't easy to compete with Endorphin Speed 4 or even 3. I know nothing better than those shoes for daily training and potential fast days. Right now, Saucony has the best training shoes on the market since the Speed 3.

THe New Balance Rebel V4 has been blowing my mind, when i first wore it I was thinking it was decent, now it seems to get better and better every time I wear it. Shoe seems to be great for almost all kind of training.

Been running in V4 for 4 weeks from fast to easy runs and up to 34kms long runs as well and can definitely agree with Nick that this version provides better support for the longer because of wider base (especially when u are tired and form is getting bad). Still feels as light and fast as V2 & V3 with a tad more response from the slightly firm midsole.

Great review, although I feel they're in somewhat different categories. Although having said that, I think I've probably become conditioned from watching too many shoe reviews over the past few months to dividing shoes up into far, far too many unnecessary micro-categories. I'm thinking back to when I first started running in the 80s boom and we all had one shoe, and that shoe did everything damn it. Now days, it seems we're almost required by law to have multiple different shoes for multiple different distances and multiple different paces and multiple different types of runs and and and and. It's nonsense of course, and really unless you're fairly seriously competitive, it;s not that hard (despite what so many shoe reviews seem to try to tell us) to find one shoe that will do everything the average runner needs, and either of the the two shoes reviewed would do that.

Good points! It's great to have all these options, means we can run more, and more comfortably. But indeed it's important not to get addicted to shoes

The Speed 4 reminds me of the Speed 1. It has that measure of midfoot/forfoot connectivity

"I am a fan of the ES2 and have owned three pairs. However, I found the ES3 to be dull in comparison. On the other hand, I really like the EP3.
I am looking for a daily trainer, but I don't want a plated one. Can you provide a comparison between the Rebel V4 and Mach 6?
I had the chance to try the Mach 6 at a running show and I found that it had good pop. Is the foam and feel of the Rebel similar to the 1080 Fresh Foam and the RC Racer? I tried those two models on and thought they were great."

Saucony Speed is on another territory vs rebel series, if the speed 4 doesn't differ much from 3 eventually will just get another pair of 3 at a promo price!

Slow runner here(still building up my speed and endurance. is doing a 34min 5k but my easy pace is around 7:30km/min). At the moment im in love with the 1080 V13(just want to run in my 1080 all the time). it just feels good but i understand why people are calling it a "cruiser". Now... would the Rebel V4 make sense for a runner like me? I think the endorphin speed 4 might be "next level" and perhaps too agressive. I want a shoe that supports the running style that the 1080 V13 endorses. Seems like the drop is the same on the Rebel V4.

Q I've been using the Saucony Endorphin Speeds for half/10k race days and for me they seem ideal for this, but I've noticed reviews always refer to them as more of a training shoe? My only guess is reviewer tend to have more expensive full carbon plate shoes for race days

You can pick up carbon racers on sale for cheaper than the Speed. I am on my 4th pair of Speeds and love them but I would still race in a carbon racer on race day.

  • @andrewh7599

The foam in the Rebel is much nicer. It's far more comfortable. I mean like you can wear it all day walking around. The Endorphin Speed makes my feet hurt after about 2 hours. It's not nearly as comfortable. The forefoot cushion is completely underwhelming and it's wildly unstable. The Rebel beats it in every category for me. It's fun, super comfortable, and quite stable.
