sword fact. The end of the hilt is not just an ornament. Its a pummel which is used for bashing and helps your grip. The top of the hilt is a cross guard which is used for a butt ton of different things depending on how it's made. Some are used for hitting people or breaking their armor, some can be used to aid in grappling, but most importantly they are there to guard your hand from anything that might slide down your blade and hit you. That's what those are for. Just if you were curious.

Searching stuff like "pig armor game", "copper pig swords", you know the likes of that in hopes the Google Search Engine gets it, then this suddenly just got recommended to me, then everything came and made sense. It just holds so many memories. Not only that this was a huge, memorable part of my childhood, this was a brief part of it, for this was the last game that I played the night before Typhoon Haiyan ravaged my hometown here in the Philippines. It just makes me think back once again, what if that typhoon never happened, or at the very least, what if it wasn't so strong that it caused the deadly storm surge that took the lives of so many people, including some of the people who I was close with. If it was not for the typhoon, maybe I got to enjoy these games a lot more, but then again, it can't be changed. The pommel, grip and handguard all affect how the sword handles in real life. A good handguard will be more effective at stopping an enemy sword from hitting the hand, a grip effects how you can hold the blade, be it two handed or one, and the pommel effects how the blade can be swung in relation to your wrist and serves as a counterweight to valance the sword. For instance I have a tulwar, the handguard only allows the sword to be held in the correct direction as it is curved, and goes over my fingers to protect them. The grip is thinner at the tops and botto and wide in the middle, so my index and pinkey naturally form a very tight grip whilst the wide part settles into my palm in a natural manner. The pommel is a flat horizontal disk, meaning that I cannot rotate my wrist like a sabre and limits me to draw cuts, but makes my grip very rigid which adds to the draw cut, and since the disk is thin it adds no counterweight, putting the centre of gravity further up the blade. These features of the tulwar have given it infamy as a sword used by sikh warriors to slice pistol barrels in half and bisect their enemies, however it's not as manoeuvrable as a sabre and less capable of penetration compared to a rapier.

2:49 the "ornament" of the sword is called pommel and is actually used as a counterweight. Depending on the sword design it could also be used to strike with.
Most times it wasn't used as a counterweight (many of them were even hollow), but for better leverage.
There is no bloody way that that thing is a counterweight
More than likely it is to keep the handle from falling off
@@mrsplays9817 explain it to me
@@The_Biologist27 The metal of the sword is all one piece
The handle goes around a part of the metal for grip with a small bit of metal sticking out of the end

The pommel is a small piece added on to either act as a better replacement for just hammering the end of the metal or so the person using the sword can keep it from sliding out of their hand much like how some swords have guards to keep the hand away from the sharpened metal
I mean, the pommel allows you to stop it from flying out of your hand if you swing too hard
