Lmaooo this is my first time hearing of this Metallica band, it's not like they were the band that got me into metal and sparked my undying love for Thrash Metal lol. Seriously tho, I've discovered many amazing Modern Thrash bands along my metal journey and I've been trying to help bring attention to these underground Modern Thrash bands by requesting them on reaction channels and by spreading the word in the comments section.
So true. Big thanks to Stranger Things shining a light on this band and helping them get their name out there. Their hard work finally paid off after near 40 years of obscurity

I remember when my skateboarding buddy said "Hey I got a copy of this record called Master of Puppets". This was 1987 or so. I was listening to a lot of Def Leppard at the time. It just blows my mind that it's 2022 and Metallica is still putting out some bangers. I know this new track is not the best, but it's still pretty cool.
A friend bought an album by a new and radical metal band and wanted me to listen to it. He played some of it over the phone and I bicycled like crazy to his home and he played the full album on his stereo. It was Kill`em All and the year was 1983.
I think Hetfield's vocals are fun. Very catchy and memorable. Strong performance. I love that the guitars are in standard tuning (I think?) and they're mixed pretty mid-rangy instead of their usual scooped sound. It sounds menacing to me, if that makes sense. I love the whammy bar parts of the solo more than the beginning. And I love the fakeout ending.
Became a lifelong fan at the age of 14. Currently 52. I've seen them multiple times and little did I know I actually lived right down the road from them in El cerrito California in 1983. Years later after seeing a picture of them at the house in a magazine and then confirming it in a documentary I watched it blew my mind 😳😳😳 I moved out to live with my father in 83 for 8th grade became home sick then moved back to Jersey in 84. That is when my Metallica journey began 🤘🤘🤘...As a matter of fact if I am not mistaken... The person that directed this video Tim Saccenti is the younger brother of John Saccenti that I was childhood friends with in South Brunswick N.J. Small world for sure. As long as Metallica keeps playing I will listen... 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I love how you can tell it's Metallica before James starts singing just by the riffage. Was not expecting this, but that's freakin dope! Glad to see the good old boys still popping out absolute bangers this late in their game! Really missing Slayer right about now 😭
@@metalben005 if they're doing more explicit nods to bands they like / covered I think it'll be pretty sick especially if it sounds like it could be from their earlier albums
Its pretty much a NWOBHM song. Sounds like modern Diamond Head. Lots of Motorhead and kill em all sounds in there. Overall bloody fantasic best they sounded since 1999
I just watched them live for the first time last night! These guys were performing in a local bar nearby, I'm so happy that they finally got some recognition.
Moved up to bars already? They were performing at the park downtown last week. Their drummer (I think his name's Larry or something) rolled out some garbage cans from the street to make a kit and was just going nuts in that. Looks like he upgraded lol.
Metallica is the royalty of metal, they could be coasting on the old stuff and still packing stadiums around the world, the fact that they are still hungry to write is commendable even if they're past their prime.
This gives me old school "stone cold crazy" and "kill em all" vibes. It's awesome to see them dive back to some of their roots on this one. Also agreed, no trash snare. RIP St. Anger
Metallica is on top of the metal charts every year. almost every year, they have at least 4 best selling albums on top 10 best selling metal records of the year. in 2023 they will have 5 I guess.
i like it its a fun little song that reminds me of their first album but with a little twist. nik was right when he said it gave off classic heavy metal vibes.
I would never pick this as the first song of a listening session, but I would ALSO never skip this song during a listening session. Also…I feel like there’s a TV show or movie coming out called Lux Aeterna. Idk why else they’d have a whole chorus saying nothing but that lol.
Funny you mentioned a Motorhead vibe. Lars's drums definitely gave me an "Overkill " vibe, for sure. Overall, not a bad track. Like you talked about, to be this age and still bring that kind of energy is really comindable. I hope to see them on their tour ... if the tickets aren't a gazillion dollars!
James and Kirk have written so many great different solos that any new one automatically becomes legendary. simpler in execution, but still cool in sound
I used to not like kirk hammet's solos much back in the day, but it's grown on me over the years...he just has that style that you immediately know who's playing,..angus young ish...he's amazing!!
7:19 This is why I love your reaction videos and opinions on new music. No, it's not the best solo Kirk's written and he should and could come up with better stuff. But, as you said, it's all about whether the artist is happy with their final product. You really understand musicianship and know how to simply appreciate music, Nik.
For me it's just good. The main riff sounds like good old Metallica with Mustaine in it but guitar solo says a lot about the subject of non comparing Hammet to dave - the second one is a few miles away in front when it comes to the skill.
Really looking forward to the new record, this song is getting better every time I listen to it. Of course it's not the "raw aggression" they had in the early 80s, but where would that come from considering they're all (hopefully) at rather good points in their lives? I was about to say "it doesn't make me want to push somebody in the pit, it makes me smile, and that's fine"... but it does make me want to push people and headbang. And smile. Which is even better.
I think the song is just great, James' voice is amazing these days, Lars is really hitting those kicks, you already know Rob is killing the bass and I really liked Kirk's hectic lead playing on this song. I really dig it because it's like hard rock

the solo was literally Master of the Puppets but you tripped down the stairs

Hahahahahaha
That's the greatest description I've ever heard
Kirk has lost his touch for sure. Aside from that the song is pretty fun! Very 80s sound
Kirk Hammett has rheumatoid arthritis really bad in his hands and stuff.

At first i looked forward hearing Lemmy again 🤠, but then came James .... 😒

Also a bit of old school Judas Priest.

he improved a lot this year. he even pulled of Trapped under ice live. and that gig with KEA RTL set list proves he actually practiced a lot.

The term "Motorheady" verbalizes my thoughts quite precisely. And I like it.
Haven't heard James singing so well in decades.
They have said they have a lot of Motorhead influence. Lemmy was their idol. They did Murder One as a tribute to Lemmy after he passed.
