Sorry I can't agree with your statement about the bosses. I played on hard difficulty and had to scale down for the last boss fight to normal difficulty, because the boss just had an unfair attack. It's the one you see around 28:00. I don't know what the difficutly was for you, but the boss did nearly exactly this damage on normal difficulty, while I was on max level and had a maxed out armor. This is just stupid. Not to mention that this move has a bad hitbox. If you try to evade, so that you are to the side of the boss, it still hits you (comparable to Sir Alonne in Dark Souls 2 while not being that problematic). It was really, really bad. I can't even imagine, what would have happened, if I had stayed on my original path (which was to be an assassin, not a fighter). This fight would have been undoable for my build, which is bad when the game tells you, that you can play however you want. So the argument "you have to approach the game intelligently" is just nonsense, since the designers didn't care how you approach the game. The boss can still nearly kill you with maxed out items and on normal difficulty. This is just stupid and I don't see how anyone can defend such a system. I don't even want to go into the problems the story has in both DLCs (to be fair, the story was weak in the main game itself so I should have expected that). I stumbled across the video since it discusses the DLCs and not the main game on day 1. But I am surprised how they can be valued good with such huge flaws. But in the end, it is an opinion I guess. I just find it interesting that these flaws are not really mentioned or even said to be a good thing.
So here's the situation for me, I freaking love and adore Assassin's Creed Origins, and had a great time with Assassin's Creed Odyssey as well, (the whole time except for whenever they had anything to do with the Assassin's Creed lore) and my question is should I get the DLC expansions for these games or no? Just curious what y'alls opinion is?
I haven't touched this game until I could buy the whole package for just 25 bucks LOL. Best bang for the buck ever 👏. I have played over 80 hours on nightmare mode. It was one hell of a ride! So yeah I recommend the whole experience ;-)
Luke what are your thoughts on games like Detroit become human, Until dawn, heavy rain, etc.. they seem very polarizing, and I would like to know how you feel about these types of games.
I know this ain't related to Assassin's Creed as a whole but going over the topic of DLC and season passes. If the developer and publisher don't finish the season pass, does the consumer get their money back? Example; Anthem.
I've been debating with myself rather I wanted to buy dlc or not (I'm one of those people finicky/picky over buying additional content especially if it feels like it should have already been in the game). Most I've ever spent on dlc was 10 bucks and it was for an indy game. I'm mainly a stealth/story/exploratory player and while some fights are fun, am not really a fan of combat in these games, preferring a more stealth approach to missions. I know one of these is more combat heavy, so I wonder which one I would prefer.
I endorse using a higher difficulty, however if you are above level, level scaling makes Nefertiti very difficult. I had to turn it down for this fight. The others didn't seem to have the same scaling problem.
Tbh I never finished curse of the pharaohs because I needed to gain a lot of levels in order to stand a chance in the next mission and I couldn't be bothered because I knew it would take several hours of side content to do
I haven't had this much fun playing a game in years. This is my 2nd playthrough of Origins but my 1st time playing the dlc. I've completed the Hidden Ones & now I'm on the 2nd dlc. I usually don't play games multiple times but I think this 1 is 1 I will. This is my 1st AC game so this was a learning experience. Perfect Timing that Mirage is on the way😊
Best Review so far. I just finished the game dlc. Hear me out, I just finished it and honestlty the dlc was good but to short. Ubisoft had a huge chance on making the story longer and involving more about the Hidden ones. Take for example they could start with making it more stable and secure for the hidden ones in the peninsula also Bayek should be able to send assassins to missions. Also there should be missions Olving recruiting. Everything Assassins Creed 2 offered and the previous should be put into the dlc. The DlC now is more about Bayek helping and making it more secure for the organisation. But where is the content were you actually try to build up the organisation. You know, buying and upgrading an outpost etc. Also sending assassins on missions. More Campaign story about starting and upgrading different outpost in the city and in the Mountains. Also we need a character or two that had more in depth story. Also Amunet came back but we barely saw anything of her except of two missions. I compare it to the Witcher series now since Ubisoft tries to build a game like that. The dlc's for witcher are huge with variuos in depth characters and it takes its time to tell a story. The Hidden ones is a good one but to short and they barely scrathed the Surface. I hope we will see more of Bayek and the organisation, this for me was to short and plain. It should have been a deeper story with more functions on how to Control the organisation. Also put in some missions were you are not alone on killing someone. Where you and a small Group should kill someone or set traps etc.
That one thing I loved about Brotherhood, I wish the other games would have done. I love training up my assassin's and sending them on missions. With these later games having such heavy rpg elements I'm surprised Ubisoft didn't expand on that mechanic from Brotherhood.
Regarding the contamination ac does of "real" history... Paul Veyne book " did greek believed their myths" explains that we are made of stories, our life is made of imagination, not reason. Reason is just a limit . And this is ver clear especially now that we are in imagination age where what we think can then represent and make come to life and hopefully will stay true as we reach intelligence age. Good video bro
14:50 - Tutankhamun was actually a rather unremarkable pharaoh in the history of ancient Egypt. The only reason he became so famous is due to the fact that the archaeologists that uncovered his tomb died a few years later, thus spawning the legend of the curse of Tutankhamun.
I only heard the rich English businessman that financed the archeological expedition of Carter died from pneumonia or dust sickness when he visited Egypt to see the graveyard. hence where this supposed "curse" comes from. but yes, Tutankhamun was pretty unremarkable and died very young. inbreeding and sex without siblings is a hell of a thing.
Love the In depth review of AC Origins, this game def gave me enough dlc and side missions that kept interested in the world. Unlike god of war, that story was amazing but left me feeling like I got half of a game once I saw the credits rolling. You sound allot like Dan Carlin from hardcore history bro!!
I have to agree with you saying he sounds like Dan Carlin. I was listening to my one these videos and got l briefly confused and thought I was listening to hardcore history
Didn't realise you had done the Critique for the DLC's... ABSOLUTELY GREAT content Luke. Going to replay Origins AGAIN... finished it once then did Odyssey... Now back to Origins again.
Bonus for people who pre order… well I bought AC Origins 2 weeks ago, and 4 years after launch, i have full access to all the content deemed “exclusive for pre order”
I really love your videos and would support your Patron if i had some spare money. I agree with you overall that the DLC should be looked at by the content they give vs hours of gameplay. If I get 14+hours of DLC and the story is lack luster and dry, then what is the point. I perfer the in depth stories and character development of what has been developed and what will be developing. I think Ubisoft does look at past developmental issues and does address them and builds upon a stronger game overall. I would like for you to do a comparison video of Odyssey and Origins, and know that will come within time, seeing how you are doing Origins content.
I get what you're saying when you posit that people are playing the game wrong couldnt it be argued that really the developers have designed it badly that it encourages people to play in a way which is "not optimal"
Instead of $40 for one DLC you wanted and one you were only okay with, wouldn't it have been better if you just bought Curse on its own and saved $20? Unless those Helix Credits and equipment packs made up the difference... You essentially just pre-ordered DLC. There was no way in Hell that they hadn't already planned and begun work on the two expansions by the time the game went gold (hence them selling a season pass included with certain editions of the base game). There's no question of you "fronting them money" because the DLC was budgeted for before the base game had even been finished. Doing otherwise would be a boneheaded financial decision. I'm aware that games like Prey and Horizon: Zero Dawn only had their DLC made after the game was shown to have an audience, but I'm certain that AC:O doesn't fall into that camp. The mere existence of a season pass is proof enough that Ubi had thought the DLC through and were going to put it out regardless of people buying the season pass beforehand, if that makes any sense. I'm not sure that a season pass is a sound investment. It's never going to be out of stock (the only reason I'd ever pre-order anything physical) and there's no assurance that the promised content will even be any good... In my opinion, it's better for customers to wait for the DLC to come out in it's entirety and then decide what parts of it are worth buying, if any. If all of it looks good, a season pass can nab you a small discount overall, but that's all the benefit I see in a season pass. Edit: Corrected $15 to $20 for the cost of DLC
Thank you for the hippo warning, would have gotten extremely triggered without it! Anyways, Fallout 4 did a similar thing with their far harbor and nuka cola dlc:s!
Do you think they'll do the same with far cry 5? The reception on the first dlc has been pretty lackluster. One could hope they double down on the two remaining..
About halfway through I stopped watching because at that point you weren't talking about the value of the season pass but about the historical accuracy it and how excited you were about the period. Which made it seem like you wouldn't be able to judge the value objectively anyway. You could have easily split this into two videos on different subjects. Also I am at the 18 minute mark and so far you really only said that season passes are common, they are usually made from content packs of varying sizes and that Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Origins had similarly structured season passes. You could have said all of that in a much shorter span of time - you keep dragging on and on about the same piece of information when everyone already understood your point.
I personally prefer the Hidden Ones DLC over Curse of the Pharaohs, and I wouldn't recommend skipping it if you play these games for the Assassin and Templar conflict.
shouldnt the field of reeds be what heaven is to christians and muslims? if that correct, why is bayek encountering enemies in the field of reeds? or am i not understanding something?
Curse Of The Pharaohs fully convinced me that Assasin's Creed would've been much better off as a fantasy series rather than science fiction. That doesn't mean it should be changed now, it's a bit too late for that to really make sense, but I believe it would've been better. As an Egyptian myself and an avid reader of mythology, the amount of references to myths in this one kept hitting me in the face. Pharaoh's Shadows were akin to Ka,although their name would imply a closer relation to Sheut. The Anubis warriors were apparently inspired by an Old Kingdom myth of an Anubis army in the desert, threatening divine punishment, as well as the role of Anubis himself as protector and former ruler of the dead( Also Old Kingdom). Aten was an extension of Ra- Horakhty, original ruler of the pantheon before being subverted and merged with Amun. The Duat is an in between place, but in a different way. It's technically your road to the afterlife. Plenty get lost on it. The human headed birds are Ba,a soul's self given form. I was disappointed we didn't get to explore the Pharaohs more. I wanted them as actual characters, not just boss fights. There really was a lot of potential story wise, especially with Isidora.
You said they didn't make an excuse for when the Pharaohs were there. They did. Bayek says to both the plump witch lady and the goofy thief that he thinks all of the Pharaohs and the other worlds were just side effects of the Apple of Eden, or whatever they called it in this game, making him see these things that he didn't believe were real.
Except they were. They're literally killing people. They're as real as you and me,at least in the way that matters. Can the Apple ressurect the dead? Perhaps.
I think Ubisoft should take their work seriously, but every once in a while they just flat out NEED to make something absolutely absurdist. Don't know about you guys but I would love it if they made Assassin's Creed: Blood Dragon.
Origins was one of the best games I have ever played - in 30 years of playing. The DLC, although good value, wasn't anywhere near as good. It focused heavily on combat instead of a mix of fighting and exploration.
Does it change the way your gear looks automatically (arms, chestplate, hidden blade) cause I really don't like the new look I like the base game's classic egyptian gold style. I never got the season pass and now it's on sale for $10 so I was thinking of getting it.
"Mystery," "Secrets," "Additional Bonus Level Content," "Unique Outfit" "Cool Sword"... Yeah I'm not falling for those catchy words this time around. Most of the cool content you had to pay for... and grinding the grind, to try and get the "better" cosmetic items, really wasn't worth all the time. Cosmetic items are cool and all, but really they are only cool looking, and that's just about it. There is no added bonus to attaining items, that really give the character no added special ability or perk whatsoever. The new rpg element... is all pretty much hype. Compare Diablo 2 or even Diablo 3 weapons, outfits, items, etc.... to the Assassin's Creed dropped wearable, usable items. By far there seems to be no comparison whatsoever. I think that Ubisoft is taking it easy, and slowly putting little by little elements into each new game, so too many drastic changes don't upset devoted Ubisoft players. The stealth element really was the key thing, that I really enjoy about the whole entire Assassin's Creed franchise. I just hope that button mashing fighting, skills, etc... don't ultimately replace "the actual assassin" in Assassin's Creed.
I don't think its unfair to expect a game to take care of you having fun, its just that Ubisoft games suck at it. My favorite rpg ever (FF7) does that a lot (there are some elements of freedom, but most of what you do is pretty fixed).
Good thing ac origins deluxe edition is 15 bucks now on ps store and the dlc's are 4 and 8 bucks. Just wait for a while and buy games on sale. Unless you don't mind paying full price of course.
Was a bit too fantastical for me. No one is having chats in the duat 😂. And the whole pharoh coming back to life thing is laughable The part when Bayek gets wrecked on acid and thinks he's fighting a giant snake was alright though. Decent if it was any other game so let's keep it grounded people or come up with a new IP
*Doesn't know that Duat literally means land of the dead" "For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge Ancient Egyptology fan bOooOOooY, a bit of a smart lad nbd :)"
Go hear all of the audio files from all the shrine talks. The narrator talking about life is Ubisofts ways of releasing secrets as it is quite hard to get to end game secret, which more marketing researchers won't finish. This game is more than a game, Ubisoft tried hard to reveal forbidden information for those who really playthrough the journey. This shit is much deeper than it looks

I prefer hidden ones over curse of the pharaohs, because it dived deeply in to the brotherhood and it's development
Im so glad someone finally explained this. I was so lost.
The first DLC was cool because it set up a good theme, the second was fucking weird but it was so good.
Tbh I never finished curse of the pharaohs because I needed to gain a lot of levels in order to stand a chance in the next mission and I couldn't be bothered because I knew it would take several hours of side content to do
Hey Luke, are you gonna be playing Vampyr? Looks pretty interesting, I'd love to hear what you think about it.
What settings are you running the game on? Your specs are pretty good but I know this game is rough on higher end PCs
*Aarrhhh.....arrrgggghhhh, no! No!*
Those words was stuck in my head through the entire game. Lol
Bayek of Siwa will kick ya butt
I love how there's a warning against violence towards hippos but not a warning to the previous clip towards actual humans.
I killed a lot of hippos
I got the gold edition for $40 and had a great time with the game.
The only reason he became so famous is due to the fact that the archaeologists that uncovered his tomb died a few years later, thus spawning the legend of the curse of Tutankhamun.
they even made a movie about that "curse" phenomenon.
So Origins is an ARPG, and Odyssey is comparatively narrative? Less than W3, but more than Origins?
Is there a complete "more money please" edition of this ass creed yet?
The Season Pass was a ripoff. You know it, I know it, everyone that isn't a shill know it. Weapon packs are not worth it
I get what you're saying when you posit that people are playing the game wrong couldnt it be argued that really the developers have designed it badly that it encourages people to play in a way which is "not optimal"
I watched this video till the end, because I love the game
Hey Luke, have you played ni no kuni 2? Its a great game, my favorife of this year so far, and i think it would make a great critique
You would believe anyone lol
I enjoyed the dlcs but I wish they changed up the gameplay loop a bit more.
I personally prefer the Hidden Ones DLC over Curse of the Pharaohs, and I wouldn't recommend skipping it if you play these games for the Assassin and Templar conflict.
great vid I enjoyed it
shouldnt the field of reeds be what heaven is to christians and muslims?
if that correct, why is bayek encountering enemies in the field of reeds?
or am i not understanding something?
Theo Horus pack was the best set made so far, including the ones added in odyssey Imho
Undead nightmare was one of the best dlc I have ever played!!!
kinda agree with you, but if the content is good, dlc doesn't upset me
You said they didn't make an excuse for when the Pharaohs were there.
Perhaps.
Nice critique
I think Ubisoft should take their work seriously, but every once in a while they just flat out NEED to make something absolutely absurdist. Don't know about you guys but I would love it if they made Assassin's Creed: Blood Dragon.
I accidentally sold my knives of Tutankhamun :''''')))
Just as I had crafted them to my level.
Ouch
My condolences.
At least he won't have much of a reason to chase you around.
There is a reason no choose your own adventure books are among tge greatest books of all time.
Origins was one of the best games I have ever played - in 30 years of playing. The DLC, although good value, wasn't anywhere near as good. It focused heavily on combat instead of a mix of fighting and exploration.
We would like to announce, that we have abolished season pass!... No you have to buy each dlc individually! Yaaaaaaayyyyy!!!!
I actually got the gold edition by mistake so the dlcs were fun to me :)
I don't think its unfair to expect a game to take care of you having fun, its just that Ubisoft games suck at it. My favorite rpg ever (FF7) does that a lot (there are some elements of freedom, but most of what you do is pretty fixed).
Pls make the AC3 video!
It triggers me when you don;t lock onto your targets.
Piers Groube same
I never did that on my playthrough. Idk never felt like it helped me.
I don't lock on to shit cuz then my shoes get dirty.
Lock on sucks in this game
Good thing ac origins deluxe edition is 15 bucks now on ps store and the dlc's are 4 and 8 bucks. Just wait for a while and buy games on sale. Unless you don't mind paying full price of course.
I hate the traditional combat in traditional AC games. Is the new combat system more approachable and more enjoyable?
Just got the season pass for £13.00 can’t be bad
o pay 19.99 on walmart and i dint get the gold weapon and it was brand new it was seal
Thought the DLC was good for Ubisoft standards
Ancient writings...From the old kingdom
Was a bit too fantastical for me. No one is having chats in the duat 😂. And the whole pharoh coming back to life thing is laughable
The part when Bayek gets wrecked on acid and thinks he's fighting a giant snake was alright though.
Decent if it was any other game so let's keep it grounded people or come up with a new IP
It's amazing game dlcs were fantastic too especially the underworld
*Doesn't know that Duat literally means land of the dead"
"For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge Ancient Egyptology fan bOooOOooY, a bit of a smart lad nbd :)"
I think people took this franchise too serious to the point where they can’t have a imagination ... I like origins my fav since the 2nd installment
My fave AC,, great main character
