  • This is the Peavey Studio Pro 112 amplifier with the red stripe along the front. If you know my channel, you'll know I am a huge fan of the red stripe amplifiers from Peavey. I think they are some of the best amplifiers that Peavey have ever made and this Studio Pro 112 amplifier is no exception. I am recording this amplifier with a Rode NT2a microphone and a SM57 mic. ‎

    I grew up playing on this bought it when it was new in 2002. Other than 1 knob that busted off during moving this amp is amazing. Nothing beats that dialed in metal tone . For anyone who's interested. Dial the mids down and switch to distortion in lead channel . Switch mids scouped out at zero . High to 10 bass to 6or7 the presence to max . That sound is similar to Mesa boogie old school Metallica tone👌👌🤘👽🤘

    I've had this amp for 15 years. I've got Mesa, Marshall and higher end Peavey stuff that i use in the studio, but there is something about the juicy sound of this little amp that none of the others bring to the mix when i need that bump. Can't explain it, but its got juicy juice.

      These amps have a very rich, warm and punchy sound. They sound very rocker and great in the mix.
      IMO, best solid state amps you can get. I even prefer it over many full tube amps.

      Really digging the sound of these amps. I am currently playing with a 1 Watt Marshall to get good tube tone but it seems to change day to day and I am thinking solid state could be good. Can the Bandit be played at low volume and still have a good lead tone? ( like a really loud TV)

    This was my first real amp, back in about 2003. I played it in bands and used it for recording. I got great sounds out of it with a Les Paul and a Strat. It eventually burned out. I took it to a tech, but they told me it wasn't worth fixing. I recently found one for $60 US. Still sounds great, and I'm happy to have it again.

    I have the delta logo, USA-made red stripe SP112, and for me it ticks all the boxes for a combo amp. I sold my Blues Junior the same week I bought my SP. The SP has a much fuller sound, especially on stage.
    0.) Great tone, and very versatile gain
    1.) Great for gigs and/or home
    2.) Not too small, not too big/heavy
    3.) Rugged, with front-mounted, easy-to-read controls that tilt up (I hate the shiny knobs that Peavey uses these days)
    4.) Red stripes look cool
    5.) You can pick these up for less than $200 (usually, way less)

    These can be had in the US for a single Benjamin ($100) or less with no more than a quick Google search... These Peavey Transtube amps create vintage-Merlot tones on a fuel-station-beer budget, for sure. I spent the extra few bucks and jumped for the latest line of Bandit, and I can't stop playing it. If you haven't already, Shane, step on a Fulltone OCD in front of one of these... The tones are jaw-dropping, both on the clean and the lead channels.

    I bought this very amp used in '04 for $150. Played it mostly at home until a year later then used it in band rehearsals with a Zoom multi effect unit. Worked great. Bought Fender CT so that took the place of the Peavey for band use but still used it at home. Fave sound was the lead channel, high gain setting with the gain at about 2:00,,,Just right for 'buckers and the CDB's Funky Junkie. Moved to a smaller place a few years ago and some gear had to go. including the SP112,,,got $80.00 for it. I miss it (and the old place) all the time.

    Hi Shane, not at least because of you I found one and bought one. I had a Blazer before and after I found my settings I liked it even more than my Blackstar HT5 10". I like how the Blazer is able to create this rumbling crunchy sound in the bass. But, it sounded a bit tinny. So I thought a 12" Studio Pro might create an equal sound but fatter. But know I realized that it takes pedals in a completely different way than any of my other amps if I plug them in front of the High Gain Channel. The Fuzz for example just creates a kind of overdrive effect instead of delivering a kind of Hendrix sound. So I would be interested to see, how you fead the Studio Pro with different kinds of pedals and also may be some sample EQ Settings on Lead-Modern or High Gain mode. Thanks.

    I took one of these in trade for another amp. I usually use Carvin...the Belair with the matching extra 2x12 and an older VT50 with the Carvin 4x10...all in gorgeous tweed. Lately it's also been a Blackstar Club 50 with a 2x12. I do a lot of duo and trio gigs along with my band and it's getting to the point that I don't want to carry the bigger stuff so at tonight's trio gig I'll bring the Peavey and throw an SM57 in front of it. The only issue I've seen with it is that it's very sensitive to bad power. The volume will fluctuate and the tube light will dim in and out but my power conditioner fixed that. The reverb tends to be a bit noisy too...almost like a spring that's bouncing around a bit but I run a Zoom G5 with all my effects so it'll just get shut off. We'll see. I'm not a fan of Peavey but I'm less of a fan of back pain.

Unlike my Blazer, the sound on the Pro always gets muddy when I connect distortion pedals to the lead channel and play power cords. Have ever tried a Peavey vyper? Wow AxeFX for a song . Uses the same SHARC Chip for modeling as the AxeFX do Peavey's value turns many off I once had a peavy stack before the return of the Stacks lol it was very old maybe one of the 1st it had like 4 inputs so it was like aq Amp/PA. I have a 5150 w/both cabs w/the Sheffield. That's a Monster Amp crushes Marshalls w/ease. haha I've had guys $10.000 rigs come up after a show on a bill w/two or three bands & I'd always get asked how do you get that tone??? Finger & That Peavey was the answer I only ran a Wha & a Chorus. In the US people once were very down on ANY peavey amp it was like have knock off shoes as kid in school. But now you see more player's using Peavey thats why many couldn't Fathom this company they have trashed as long as they have played sounding as good & ofter much better than the Boutique amps… I had a blues band I recorded in my studio & the guitarist "special" amp died while laying down the Bass & Drum tracks I was using that guitar as a scratch I had just retubed the 5150 & it was Much quieter than stock but also more gain & better Clean Chn , well I asked do you wanna try tracking (the main tracks) w/the 5150 you could see the distain in his eyes so I plugged em in & dialed in a clean tone that was just breaking up I tell you that is some of the best guitar tracks I ever recorded & I bet no one would guess that was a 5150 producing those tones. He quickly forgot the gear & play everything almost 1st take he was in the Zone w/PV. Also their PA speakers & Amps are The Way to go i've seen some of the 1st CS-800 power amps still in use till this day!!! Their Speakers can also be easily changed out w/new cones as well as the Compression Drivers no other speaker company does that that I know of.

      I bought my SP112 Red Stripe (built in USA) for $150. A few years back I bought one for $80, and sold it (like an idiot) during a GAS attack. The price really depends on the seller's gear snobbery level.

    What is transtube technology?

    • @ShawnKitchen
      @ShawnKitchen 5 років тому

      It's Peavey's patented circuit that's designed to emulate not just the gain, but the compression characteristics of a tube amplifier.

    Anyone knows if there are any difference in sound between this model and the Silver Stripe model?

    • @mw13068
      @mw13068 7 років тому

      I own a red stripe SP, and I've played all versions from the Solo Series and newer. Once they got to the Transtube circuits, the sound is very similar across models, and any difference could just as likely be the differences in cabinets or speakers.

      I have a Studio Pro Silver Stripe.
      Both sound very similar to me. They might have the same circuitry, and they also have the same speaker (Peavey Blue Marvel) and same tank reverb (Accutronics).
      Biggest difference is that Silver Stripe version has no T-Dynamics control.

      Then either
      1) I misread
      b) Peavey moved production by that time or
      3) Perhaps they had more than one manufacturing facility and folks on that side of the globe got them from China?

    • @AlexSanzG
      @AlexSanzG 7 років тому

      You read it well, they moved production from then on, starting with the red stripe model and the following Bandit I think. My Studio Pro 112 also have different logo, the Peavey with the sharp ends.

    • @kevinpwebb
      @kevinpwebb 7 років тому +2

      Red stripes were made in the USA as well as China, front panel will either say 'Designed and made in the USA' or just 'Designed in the USA' and have 'Made in China' on the back panel, I own and have worked on both and imo there is no differance but I dare say the USA will be more desirable to some.

    Interesting, I have one and think it sounds rubbish. Mine has the Blue Marvel speaker, as far as I can tell mine is 100% working, but just sounds terrible, harsh, to my ear it has no tone or warmth just plain harsh and cutting. I consider it landfill but before I do that I've decided to modify mine, it's easy to mod so watch this space. They sell for cheap in the UK, mine was £35 and now I know why! They are very loud though, they have a LM power output that does deliver and the PSU is big enough to serve up demands. I'm not really sure what the Transtube knob is supposed to do, mine seems to make little difference other than a small amount louder. Looking at the circuit, I can see what it's suposed to do (damping), there is something wrong here.
