- In this video I walkthrough all the features and settings on the Peavey Bandit 112 (2004) RED STRIPE.

I've got a Chinese built Red Stripe and it's magnificent...BUT...the secret sauce is in the clean channel. (The lead sounds aren't great, imho.) The only way to play the Red Stripe is, as follows;
1) Dime the clean (modern) channel
2) Set the T Dynamics to 12 or 1 O'Clock.
3) EQ to taste.
4) Play!
Set up the amp like that and it genuinely sounds like a Marshall Plexi. Oh...and it's LOUD!!!
Paid £100 GBP for mine, in great condition. I've got other amps but I'll never part with it! Thanks for the demo!

I bought this back in 2013 used for $140 and I still got it. I have replaced the Sheffield with Celestion (Black Shadow from Mesa Boogie) MC-90 at 8 ohm. Insanely loud with full round sound. It did stand up against 5 piece band when my other guitar player has 4x12 stack. I will keep it forever.
I've owned one of these for a few years, the only solid state combo I've kept. I bought it new, still a keeper.

I went looking for one of these after watching Shane’s videos also. I got mine for $75.00. Had to replace the reverb tank and that’s it. Love it!

A new Bandit weighs in at 45 lbs, according to Guitar Center. Just bought a 2003 (I think) Red Stripe. It's a killer of a solid state amp, and I think it outperforms my Tech 21 60W Trademark. Much more tonal variety, just a gnarlier amp overall. Gotta give Peavey credit for sticking with a sure thing. Certain other companies would "reissue" this or that, and jack the price up so that only "collectors" could only afford to buy them new. BRAVO PEAVEY!!! Thanks for helping us poor rockers to make the world ROCK 'n ROLL by selling affordable, reliable amps that smoke the competition (even many of the tube-ers out there).

JamaisMEC I had a silver stripe bandit from the 90's and kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it.
I love these amps. I have a Chinese red stripe 112 and recently bought a made in USA red stripe 112 with the Sheffield speaker used in very good condition for $80 CAD!

How do the two compare? Is one better than the other? I am told they sound the same, but I have never heard both.
Lead channel set on vintage with very low pre- gain gives very good edge of breakup tone.
I LOVE the Peavey Bandits! IMO they're truly great amps! I have an old Bandit 65, a "teal stripe" one, a red stripe one, and the newest one. They all sound great for cleans, blues, country, southern rock. And the newer ones have great high gain hard rock and metal tones as well.

Are the newer ones good for Alice in Chains-like metal?
@@matenagy9244 Both the Red Stripe or Silver Stripe transtube models should be fine for something like that. You have to keep in mind it won't sound quite like Jerry's rig. A lot of it comes down to your playing ability and using your ears.
In vintage mode that was just about the perfect rock tone, sounds really good, l gotta get one of these!

I have an '02 Red Stripe. I usually run the low gain jack and keep the clean channel on vintage.

Got mine for 149.00. Worth every penny for the buck. I use the clean channel only without the included foot switch. Really nice Fender like clean tone with my strat. Reminds me of Dire straights or just an awesome Country tone. I plan on using a pedal board with it someday. I think this amps strength is in the clean channel in “ Modern” mode for more bass presence . Bass dialed to 10. Mids at 7 Treble at 7. I’m gonna have to check out the T Dynamics function more. I have Red Transtube with Sheffield speaker , but mine is from the mid 90's I believe , could be wrong , I love it and will never sell it .
I have a rage 158 and often thought it's better than its price tag suggests. Often thought of ditching tube for the big brother bandit. Videos like this make me wonder if I'm on to something.

Good video, pity you had the T dynamics turned up so high all the time, at the low volumes you were using, thereby missing out on most of the power compression simulation that makes the Transtube amp so special.
Here's a story: tried buying a Restripe Studio Pro 112 today from GC...the goof taking my phone order kept typing in the wrong info and was clueless...he asked me for my info 4 different times! By the time he got his shit together someone else apparently bought it online b/c it started saying "out of stock" after I had been on the phone for 15-20 mins trying to get it done. I was so pissed, BUT...the silver lining was that even while trying to buy it, I was having buyer's remorse b/c there was a Restripe Bandit 112 at a different GC (both listed as in great condition) for only $20 more. I kept wondering if I should've been buying the Bandit for only $20 more, so I'd have the Sheffield speaker vs. the Blue Marvel, the presence and resonance controls, and just better (and more gig-worthy) sound. The Studio Pro's only advantage (besides price) was the lighter weight b/c I have a spine injury and can't lift heavy stuff well. So I call the other GC to buy the Bandit and the 2nd guy STILL screwed up 2x, typing in the wrong info or who knows what, so I thought for sure the same thing was about to happen if it hadn't already. But it worked out, (so he said, I still don't have the confirmation email) and now I'm just wondering if the $260 I paid (including tax & shipping to my local GC) is too much. What do you guys think?
The red and silver stripe bandits are very good. I have a silver stripe with the sheffield speaker, bought it for $150 Canadian in 2019. The trick to getting a good sound is correctly using the t.dynamics knob. A lower setting will make the amp compress like a tube amp.
What this Silver triangle at the bottom means? I have chinese version with "block" logo and this triangle?

11/05/2019: I have the Peavey 112 Bandit made in USA 2004 with 12" Sheffield speaker. One feature I do not understand too well is the dial for Transube T-Dynamics 25%, 50%, and 100% power (dial on front of amp far right side). I really do not hear any change using it. A youtube Peavey owner told me that is normal not to hear any change for the GAIN channel. But for the CLEAN channel, I should hear a difference when I turn it all the way up 100%, then it will break up a little bit just like a tube amp. I have heard that solid-state amps and tube distortion are very similar sounds. Two Questions: (1) My amp has 2-different GAIN settings (High Gain Modern or Vintage) with really good sound, so why would I need to play the amp all the up 100% in the CLEAN Channel just to get a little breaking up distortion? (2) Why would anyone use the T-dynamics in the Clean Channel 100% volume when the amp has a good GAIN channel at any volume?
hey there! Good questions. I didn't play enough with teh T-Dynamics to really see if it was effective or not. The only time I got breakup on the clean, was when I had the amp maxed out
I could be wrong, but I believe it is Peavey's version of an attenuator that a lot of newer amps have to drop the wattage down to try and achieve the same time at bedroom volumes
You don’t turn the t dynamics up to 100. Keep it below 50% and turn your clean channel up. NEVER use the lead channels . If you turn the t dynamics low and the clean volume high you get actual break up and close to a tube sound. Try it

I've got one of these , Peavey Bandit with the Sheffield speaker , I took the speaker out and built an isolation box for it with a shure 57 mic in it , then I cut 10 inches out of the middle of the cabinet and attached the bottom 5 inches to the top 5 inches and glued the seam and put black ATV to match the black tolex seam , you can't even hardly tell there is a seam. I now can use the head with any speaker cabinet. these things are too close to sounding like a Tube amp to ever sell . A real work horse.

I’m a tube amp snob, and have mostly low wattage tube amps. I wanted something affordable ($80us), and loud with high headroom.
The fact that it sounds good and is built like a tank are really just bonuses! I have an outdoor show coming up and want to be heard! 😜
I have a Fender Champion 40 and I’m thinking about trading it out for a Peavy Bandit 112 Red Stripe… I play blues and classic rock. Should I keep the Champion or trade it out?

I bought this exact same model after watching Shane's videos on the bandit. It's a great amp ! I'll never sell it. Mine was a closet classic looked like brand new with a footswitch for $150.00.STEAL !!!!! USA designed and made.

Nice! I've got a red stripe Studio Pro that I bought from my high school guitar teacher for $80, which is kinda like the Bandit's little brother (Bandit is 100w and I believe the Studio Pro is 65w). I fucking love the thing, but unfortunately the reverb died recently and I'll have to try and get it fixed soon.

Sweet, that does look pretty simple. I did see that you mentioned to someone that you bought the cable directly from Peavey. Do you know if they still offer it, or any possible alternatives if they don't?

Do you know what is the difference in this two red stripe bandits: Peavey Bandit red stripe, and the Pevey "Revolution" red stripe Bandit? I know they both are the USA made with Sheffield speakers. But, what is the "Revolution" model?

Buddy all the Peavey Bandits are excellent. Yes Shane dose prefer the red stripe, but don’t be put off the latest generation of Bandits are excellent too. Watch Rob Chapman take a Peavey Bandit 112 through its paces. I understand Shane has his favourite model but to be fair he doesn’t get the best out of the new one. I’m not saying it’s better than the red, teal or silver stripes. But it’s not rubbish as you imply. I’ve had all of them and they are all great with slightly different flavours that’s all.

OK, gotta say it, I think you put a lot of people off of buying a Peavy Bandit. It sounds awful. You obviously have no clue at this point on how to dial-in a tone. You, should probably give it another go and see if you now have the experience to dial-in a good tone. That said, I have met some really good guitarists that struggle getting a decent tone.

You r using this amp wrong man. And not doing it justice. You turn the clean Channel way up and the transtube way down. You NEVER use the gain channels cause they suck. You should take this down and redo it like I mentioned cause you’re hurting the value with this tone less video. No offense.
